Best Case

Atari Bigby came out of nowhere and became one of the top fantasy DBs in 2007. He finished his first season as a starter with 86 tackles and five interceptions. The former undrafted free agent had 43 solo tackles in the first half of the year before slipping to 27 the rest of the way. Bigby had some problems in coverage and was in danger of losing his job, but he improved and finished with four interceptions in his last four regular season games. If Bigby can revert back to the tackle numbers he had in the first half of last year and add a few more big plays, he could make a return trip into the low DB1 range.

Worst Case

Bigby is a big physical safety and is a solid run defender, but he had numerous problems in coverage, committed a lot of penalties and allowed too many big plays. Although he improved during the latter stages of the season, there are still questions about his pass defense skills. His tackle numbers declined badly over the last half of the year and should that trend continue, he may not be a viable fantasy starter this year.

Outlook

Bigby was a physical force against the run, although his tackle numbers fell off significantly over the last half of the year. Bigby had four of his five interceptions in the last four games and improved his pass defense after struggling mightily in the middle of the season. If Bigby can be more consistent and continue to improve in coverage, he should be a solid DB2 this year.
