2007 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Betts had as many rushes as starter Clinton Portis, but was much less effective with them. He averaged 3.5 yards per carry, with a long of 11. Betts certainly looks to get his touches in Washington's running back by committee, but he was definitely the number two behind Portis.
Week 2 - Betts took a back seat to RB Clinton Portis in the first half by only getting two carries for nine yards, and no targets. His only productive play of the game was a 28 yard screen pass on the second to last play in the third quarter. Aside from that play, Betts only had 12 total yards of offense and was not a big factor in the game. He only had six rushing carries to Portis' 17, and was not as an effective runner as Portis in the game.
Week 3 - Betts rushed seven times for nine yards and caught one out of three targets for 13 yards. He was given back to back goal line looks, which he failed to convert with time winding down and Washington needing a touchdown to force overtime.
Week 5 - Betts continued his sharing of the running back duties with Clinton Portis. However, most of Betts' touches came in the first half, seven of his eight carries and both of his receptions. He posted 22 yards rushing and eight yards receiving. Mike Sellers vultured a goalline carry that could have belonged to Betts.
Week 6 - Betts averaged 3.3 yards on three carries, and contributed in the passing game by grabbing three passes for 21 yards.
Week 7 - The limited role for Ladell Betts continued, as he had three carries for 12 yards and no receptions. Betts did step in as the kick returner when Rock Cartwright left the game with a quad injury.
Week 8 - Betts only had a few carries in the game to spell Portis.
Week 9 - Betts had most of his carries at the end of the game, when Portis was tired and the Redskins were running frequently.
Week 10 - Betts had an inauspicious game. He only carry earned five yards and a lost fumble.
Week 11 - Betts carried the ball twice for eight yards, while catching one pass for six yards on two targets. He did not receive his first carry until the second quarter, and his playing time was infrequent, most often entering the game on the occasional third down. With the passing game so successful, the Redskins were able to go away from running the ball, as Clinton Portis only received 12 carries himself in this game.
Week 12 - Betts chipped in with 47 yards rushing on eight attempts and added three receptions for 32 yards in the passing game. He made positive plays on nearly every touch he got, but just wasn't used enough to make a bigger impact.
Week 13 - Betts saw all his looks in the first half, and caught two of them. He had no carries.
Week 14 - Betts had one carry for negative two yards, and one catch for seven yards. He did not do much in the second half but did catch a 16 yard pass over the middle for a touchdown late in the game.
Week 15 - Betts did not get much work as Portis was the feature back all night, but Betts did score a touchdown on his first run of the night on a 14 yard draw up the middle. He was ineffective other than that run until he gained 17 yards on three carries to finish the game out. He had negative two yards on his other four carries.
Week 16 - Betts did not get much playing time as Clinton Portis carried the majority of the load on the night. Betts only ran the ball five times on the night.
Week 17 - Betts had an above average number of carries with the Redskins ahead throughout the game.
Week 18 - Ladell Betts only carried the ball three times for 15 yards, all of which came late in the second quarter with the Redskins essentially letting the clock run out to head into the locker room for halftime. Betts did play on the occasional third down, collecting both of his receptions for 19 yards, however his pass protection was notably poor, being run over on a few occasions by the pass rush.
