2007 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Bennett was inactive for the game due to a thigh injury.
Week 2 - Bennett was targeted often. He had eight passes sent his way, but he only pulled in three of them for 42 yards. It does seem that he will be a nice complement to the other outstanding members of the Rams' receiving corps.
Week 3 - Bennett was targeted four times in the game but was able to come down with just one reception for no gain. He was targeted three times in the red zone, but could not come down with any receptions in the short field. One of those targets came on a fade in the end zone, where Bulger left the throw short and was intercepted.
Week 4 - Bennett was targeted six times, catching two passes for 20 yards. He did receive a target in the red zone on a third down play, but could not come down with the catch.
Week 5 - Bennett got the start because WR Isaac Bruce did not play because of an injury. His first catch was a 16 yard touchdown pass over the middle of the field. That would be Bennett's only catch of the first half. He would come and catch a 16 yard pass on the first play of the second half, but that would be his only other catch in the game.
Week 6 - Bennett left the game after tweaking his hamstring. He had no catches, but should have caught one hard throw from Frerotte, that deflected off his hands and turned into an interception.
Week 7 - Inactive due to injury (hamstring).
Week 8 - Bennett was the primary option in the Rams passing game, used as a short yardage receiver. Given the injury problems on the Rams offensive line, the short passing game was a major portion of the Rams gameplan. It was in this scheme that the sure-handed Bennett became a major player. He was able to create just enough separation from the defenders, especially running short out routes to the sideline, to be a real problem spot for the Browns defense.
Week 10 - Bennett beat DB Jason David on his touchdown catch in the third quarter.
Week 12 - Bennett took a clear back seat to Holt, Bruce, and Jackson in the offense. He did catch four of the five passes thrown his way though, so remained consistent.
Week 13 - Bennett is sort of an afterthought in the passing game; he's the fourth option, after Holt, Bruce, and Jackson. He caught his first two for first downs, then dropped an easy one, and was only looked to once after that.
Week 14 - Bennett was not targeted until the Rams final offensive play, which was an interception.
Week 15 - Bennett averaged 13 yards on his five catches and three of his grabs went for first downs. Two of those first down receptions came with the Rams operating in third and long situations. The first came on a third and four play when Bennett grabbed a Marc Bulger pass that went for a 13 yard gain. His second long third down conversion came later on in the third quarter when his 16 yard catch and run moved the chains on a third and 14 play. Bulger's first interception of the game deflected off Bennett's hands into the waiting arms of S Atari Bigby.
Week 16 - Bennett caught a 23 yard touchdown pass over the middle of the field with a defender draped all over him. It was a perfectly thrown ball by QB Marc Bulger and Bennett made a great over the shoulder catch. He would only catch one more pass for 12 yards in the game.
Week 17 - Bennett caught only one ball for four yards, but did drop a touchdown pass from Bulger in the third quarter. It appeared that Bennett was trying to get his feet in bounds in the back of the end zone, but let the ball slip through his fingers.
