Best Case

The two best things about John Beck are Mike Shanahan and Donovan McNabb. Apparently Mike Shanahan has seen something in Beck that no one else has, and bypassed drafting a rookie under the presumption Beck can be a productive starter this year. Meanwhile Donovan McNabb, a clearly superior player, did enough to ruin his relationship with his coach which drove a trade to Minnesota in July. Beck won't start Week One (Grossman will), but he could be under center in a matter of weeks.

Worst Case

John Beck is a 30-year old QB with four career starts, one career TD pass and 4 interceptions. Cam Cameron has given up on Beck on two different teams, and almost no one not named Shanahan believes Beck has the requisite skills and leadership to be a full-time NFL starter. Beck was outplayed by Rex Grossman in the preseason, which says it all.

Outlook

John Beck was the odds on favorite to get the starting job, yet Rex Grossman ended up getting the nod by outplaying him. Beck will still probably see plenty of action this season, but if you are counting on him as a high upside QB2 in the end of your draft, you're barking up the wrong tree.
