Bengals | Two expected to compete for backup QB job (Mon Jun 11, 12:25 PM) - Cincinnati Bengals QBs Jeff Driskel and Matt Barkley are expected to compete for the backup quarterback job during training camp.

Our View: Barkley has more experience and that may give him a leg up in the competition. Driskel is athletic and can make throws on the move with ease, but he's raw and needs to make better decisions with the ball when under duress. He's more interesting in deep dynasty leagues right now because of the unknown surrounding his game.

2013 Game Summaries

Week 7 - In Barkley’s first NFL action he looked rather shaky and was thrown into the game when the Eagles offense was already standing still and not moving the ball as the Cowboys defense was putting plenty of pressure on the Eagles QBs. On his first pass of the game made a completion to Avant and then the very next play threw a bad pass that was picked off but then called back by penalty. He completed passes to Avant, Cooper and Jackson before he threw his first interception to Sean Lee. On the second interception he avoided a sack and just threw the ball up after that and he was nowhere near an Eagles receiver. After he had a nice drive to get the Eagles into scoring range he ended up throwing his 3rd interception in the endzone as he tried to lead Jason Avant up for a jump ball.

Week 8 - Barkley was forced into action at the end of the first half and on his first possession he fumbled the snap and quickly picked up the ball and completed a pass to Brent Celek for a first down and then on the very next play went back to Celek for another completion. On the third play from scrimmage he found DeSean Jackson for another completion and started the game off very solidly going 3 for 3 on completions. On first and goal Barkley looked to have lots of time to make a play but rushed to the outside and was sacked and lost the ball as he was stripped and was really a big turning point in the game as the Eagles were just starting to get momentum for the first time in the game. On a third and five Barkley took another sack that backed the Eagles up even more and took them out of field goal range and forced the Eagles to try to go for it on 4th down and Barkley felt the pressure once again and threw the ball quickly and overthrew his receiver. Barkley was clearly feeling the pressure from the Giants defense and seemed to try to force the ball and throw the ball quickly to avoid the sack but still was sacked several times. He made a nice pass to Jason Avant for a big gain of 25 yards. Late in the game with 13 seconds left Barkley slightly under threw Jackson on the sideline and threw an interception which sealed the win for the Giants.

Week 9 - Barkley came into the game after the game was well in hand at a 49 - 13 score. He passed 3 times total and completed 2 of those passes to Zach Ertz.
