2007 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Baker saw three targets on the day, hauling in two of them for a total of twenty nine yards. He was used mainly as a check down option for quarterback Chad Pennington, who had to hit Baker once, as he was scrambling out of the pocket.
Week 2 - Baker made the most of his only target, tiptoeing into the right side of the end zone for New York's only touchdown, midway through the fourth quarter.
Week 3 - With :02 left in the first half, Pennington threw a high pass toward the back of the end zone. Baker reached up with his right hand, knocked the ball back to himself, grabbed it with both hands and got both feet down before tumbling over the end line. The touchdown staked New York to a 21 -- 13 halftime lead. It was his only target and it was a great catch.
Week 4 - Baker caught a season high three passes for 24 yards. His final reception came on a short sideline route. On the play, Baker dragged a Bills' defender and was able to reach the ball to get out of bounds and stop the clock. Earlier, he was guilty of a false start penalty.
Week 5 - Baker saw five total targets go his way, bringing in three of the five for 52 yards. His long reception for the day was an 18 yard strike from Chad Pennington.
Week 6 - Baker caught both of his targets for 12 yards.
Week 8 - Baker was targeted three times and managed to bring in only one ball for 11 total yards.
Week 9 - Baker had one of his better games of the season. His six targets were the most he had since Week 13 of 2006, and his 42 yards were the second best of the 2007 season. Baker seemed to be a bit mixed up with Clemens on a couple of throws that didn't connect. Either Baker or Clemens thought a different route was being run on these miscues.
Week 11 - Baker scored the only touchdown for New York and could become a favorite target for the inexperienced Clemens.
Week 12 - Baker was used primarily as the outlet receiver and showed an ability to get open on shorter routes. Three of his targets were thrown out of his reach, including one in the end zone. He caught the last pass of the day and was tackled inches outside the end zone.
Week 13 - Baker had a quiet day as he brought in two of his three targets for ten yards.
Week 14 - Baker provided an option for Kellen Clemens when he released off the line as the linebackers seemed intent on blitzing and keeping the Jets running backs from making long gains on screen passes, catching half of the targets thrown his way.
Week 15 - Baker saw double digit targets, as he was able to bring in eight balls for 66 yards. He was consistently open in the middle of the field and was an integral part of sustaining drives for the Jets. He was clearly a favorite option for quarterback Chad Pennington as he provided a valuable safety valve when down field coverage was tight.
Week 16 - Baker was again a go to weapon for Pennington and the Jets, bringing in four of his five targets for 40 yards. He was an open in inside and sideline routes and was even used as a deep threat, hooking up with Pennington on gains of 17 and 18 yards respectively.
