Outlook

Last summer the Cowboys had as many as five kickers competing for the placekicking job. This year it already belongs to Dan Bailey – who emerged from the pack in 2011 and quickly paid dividends. Among his string of successive field goals were several big game winners. He also proved quite capable on kickoffs, making David Buehler expendable during the offseason. This year his co-specialists will again be long snapper L.P. Ladouceur and punter/holder Chris Jones, who subbed in several games for injured Mat McBriar last year and this year takes over the job full-time. The Cowboys have ranked in the top ten in attempted kicking points in four of the past six years, including 7th last year. One item to watch this year is whether the offense can sustain those opportunities under Bill Callahan the new offensive coordinator, a role handled by head coach Garrett in 2011.
