Best Case

The Vikings made a big move before the 2008 NFL draft, acquiring Kansas City star Jared Allen for a package of draft picks. Allen led the NFL in sacks last year with 15.5 and added 64 tackles and an impressive 10 passes defended. He is widely considered the premier two-way defensive lineman in the NFL and he gives the Vikings the elite pass rusher that they were lacking. If Allen plays like he has the last two years, he has a chance to be the top fantasy DL in 2008.

Worst Case

It's hard to find a downside to Allen, but there are a couple of potential problems. The Viking's have a tremendous defense and may not be on the field as much as Allen is accustomed to, which could limit his opportunities. The other issue is Allen just signed a long-term contract and sometimes a player can lose their focus when they finally get their job security. Even if everything does not go as planned, Allen's all around skills should keep him in the top ten at worst this year.

Outlook

Allen has been the top-ranked fantasy DL for the last two seasons and he should continue to be a stud fantasy player this year. Over the last three years, Allen has almost 200 tackles, 34.5 sacks, 14 forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries and 25 passes defended. He puts up huge numbers every year and there is no reason to think it will change any time soon. Allen should be a top five lineman or higher this year, and with his ability to put up 50 solos and double digit sacks, a third straight number one DL ranking is a definite possibility.
