Outlook

Allen had a monster second half last year, putting up 46 solo tackles in the final eight games of 2007. If he was guaranteed a starter's role and 50+ snaps a game, he'd be a less risky bet to return to DB2+ production this season. However, Allen will have to compete with Yeremiah Bell, Renaldo Hill, Chris Crocker and Keith Davis for snaps during camp. Bell and Hill have each been solid performers in the past and will get long looks in camp to regain the starting roles they once owned. Even if Allen wins a starting job, there's no guarantee it'll be in a run-supporting SS role or that he'll stay out of a rotation with Bell and Hill. Allen has definite upside this season, but won't come without risk for those who must draft before training camp battles have been settled.
