With the game so out of hand, Hester actually saw a decent amount of work. Part of the reason why he was able to pick up 57 yards from scrimmage likely has to do with the fact that nobody focuses on stopping him. On one play in particular, he made a quick catch out in the flat for what looked like a minimal gain. However, nobody was around him because nobody worries about Jacob Hester. He was able to take advantage of the attention being paid to Mike Tolbert, Antonio Gates, and others, to sneak in three receptions for forty yards (including a long one of 21).

For a guy who only had one touch from scrimmage, Hester may have guaranteed himself a lack of meaningful touches moving forward. He made one of the game's biggest gaffes (and the Chargers had plenty of them). Rivers threw a swing pass to Hester that the running back was unable to corral. The ball appeared to have been thrown forward, but whistles never blew. Rather than falling on the football, Hester simply left it bouncing around on the ground in front of him. It was picked up by the Patriots and returned the other way for a big gain. Hester didn't get another offensive look the rest of the way.

Hester started the game off inauspiciously, making a huge blunder on the opening kickoff. Rather than letting the ball sail out of bounds and putting the ball at the 40-yard line, Hester tried catching it right on the sideline with his back facing the field and the ball over his shoulder. He ended up going out of bounds and giving the Chargers awful field position to begin the game. However, he made a couple of nice plays in the passing game later on and also converted a first down on a short yardage run to try to help make up for the earlier gaffe.

Receiving: 2 / 9 / 1 on 2 targets
As is typical, Hester's involvement in the gameplan was minimal and mostly restricted to short yardage situations. He did manage a score late in the game off a wide open play action screen early in the fourth quarter that put the Chargers up 35-7 and officially put the game away.

Hester got a shot from the one, but couldn't convert in his big moment.
