Receiving: 1 / 87 / 1 on 4 targets
Brandon Stokley had the play of the game, but his day started out rough in this new system. Orton and Stokley seemed to be on different pages for most of the game, and all of Stokley's targets fell incomplete, although one of those targets was ruled as tipped at the line of scrimmage. Timing between Stokley and Orton was off, as passes were both ahead and behind of the veteran receiver. On the Broncos final offensive play Orton targeted Brandon Marshall deep on the left sideline. The pass was tipped by cornerback Leon Hall, and Stokley changed his gait to adjust while he ran under the ball. Stokley then turned on the jets, and outran veteran Dhani Jones to the endzone. The savvy veteran also ran more time off the clock by running parallel to the goalline instead of crossing it immediately. It was an incredible play that will overshadow a day that was mostly "off" for Stokley.
Receiving: 5 / 70 / 0 on 7 targets
Stokley was very involved on Sunday, and seemed to have much better chemistry with Kyle Orton this week. Orton targeted the veteran on several passes over the middle, and when the Broncos needed a first down Stokley had the awareness to reach for the first down marker as he went out of bounds --- twice! It's that type of veteran play that made him a trusted target for Orton this week. The Broncos are looking to exploit matchups, and not force the ball to just one receiver. This week they must have felt that Stokley gave them a good target. We'll see if that trend continues over the season.
Stokley was dressed for the game, and made it onto the field, but did not put up any numbers on Sunday.
Stokley made it onto the field in the first half, but only when the Broncos were lined up in 4-wide receiver sets.
Receiving: 0 / 0 / 0 on 1 targets
Stokley was once again not very involved on Sunday, and was only on the field when the Broncos lined up in four wide receiver sets. He did get targeted with one pass, but that was broken up by Brandon McGowan underneath. Stokley did not do a good job of setting up his route, and that allowed the cornerback to make a play on the ball.
Receiving: 3 / 24 / 1 on 3 targets
Stokley made it onto the field as the Broncos starting slot receiver, and the veteran proved to be an important target for Orton as the game went on. Unlike Gaffney, who struggled to get open against the Chargers, Stokley was very adept at finding the soft spots in the zone. He made tough catches when he had to, and was also a willing blocker when the Broncos were grinding it out on the ground. Stokley's touchdown catch was reviewed by the replay booth, and the call on the field stood. The ball crossed the plane as Stokley caught the pass and was coming out of the end zone. He was touched down by Antonio Cromartie before he rolled into the end zone, but officials decided that the ball was across the plane when he originally secured the pass.
The veteran was on the field, but did not receive a target in this game.
Receiving: 1 / 4 / 0 on 1 targets
Stokley played hard, and when asked to block he did a good job. Stokley hauled in a key fourth down reception that would have moved the sticks if not for a holding penalty that negated the play and forced the Broncos to punt. His only reception of the game came on a short route when the Steelers brought the blitz from the right side and Stokley was the hot read on the left.
Receiving: 1 / 15 / 0 on 2 targets
Stokley only had one catch on Sunday as Orton hit him on a short pass over the middle of the field. He was able to turn quickly upfield, lower his shoulders, and gain 15 yards on the play against man coverage where Justin Tryon was outmatched in coverage.
Receiving: 1 / 17 / 1 on 3 targets
Brandon Stokley caught one pass in the fourth quarter, getting wide open as he cut inside behind two other receivers and found the middle of the field completely unguarded. Stokley grabbed the short pass and walked into the end zone for a 17-yard touchdown to lock down the victory for Denver. Stokley was on the field more with Eddie Royal sidelined in the second half with a thigh injury.
Receiving: 0 / 0 / 0 on 1 targets
Stokley was not targeted and did not have a catch against his former team on Sunday.
Receiving: 2 / 67 / 0 on 2 targets
Stokley had the biggest play of the day for the Broncos when he caught an inside slant and found himself staring at a wide open field. He raced for a 63-yard gain, but was tackled from behind at the Raiders 4-yard line. It was a horse collar tackle, so the Raiders were penalized and the ball then moved to the 2-yard line. It was a huge play for the Broncos, and Stokley's second reception of the game.
Receiving: 0 / 0 / 0 on 1 targets
Brandon Stokley was targeted over the middle in the first minute of the game and he thought that he was interfered with (which might have been the case). Rather than letting it go, Stokely got all worked up and screamed at the official in the secondary, marched towards him from a good 20 yards away and gyrated enough to slap the official's hand. That outburst cost him a personal foul and an ejection from the rest of the game, leaving Denver fairly short-handed at wide receiver.
Receiving: 5 / 43 / 1 on 8 targets
Stokley was back on the field after getting ejected in the game last week against the Eagles. He caught a short touchdown pass in the 3rd quarter to bring the Broncos within 3 points, but most of his production (3 of his 5 catches) came in garbage time when the Chiefs were up by 20 points. The touchdown pass was a thing of beauty as Stokley jumped and fully extended his body parallel to the ground to haul in the catch.
