Week 1 vs. MIN

Receiving: 4 / 60 / 1 on 9 targets

Royal led the Browns in targets, as Brady Quinn often checked down to him underneath. Royal did run some deeper patterns, however, catching passes on deep crossing routes early in the game and a TD pass on a seam route late in the fourth quarter. He was often aligned just off the tackle in a two point stance, chipping a lineman before releasing into the field. Royal did drop two passes late, but Quinn seemed to favor him over his running backs and slot receiver in this game as his primary underneath option. Should that continue, Royal has TE2 upside, though not much big game potential.

Week 2 vs. DEN

Receiving: 1 / 13 / 0 on 3 targets

With Quinn trying to work so many passes underneath Robert Royal could have had a much bigger day than he did. Royal's first and only reception came with less than two minutes to go in the fourth quarter as the Broncos defense was in "prevent" mode. He was targeted two more times in that same drive, but both passes fell incomplete.

Week 3 vs. BAL

Receiving: 1 / 7 / 0 on 1 targets

Both Cleveland quarterbacks preferred to check down to Mike Furrey and Jerome Harrison on the rare occasions Royal went out on a pass route rather than stay in to assist with pass protection and run blocking.

Week 4 vs. CIN

Receiving: 2 / 13 / 0 on 4 targets

Royal was targeted a few times on underneath routes and could have had another decent gain on a route that Derek Anderson misfired on.

Week 5 vs. BUF

Receiving: 0 / 0 / 0 on 2 targets

Royal was a checkdown target, nothing more. Oh, and he was covered.  He did break open on one target but joined the cast of many receivers who let Derek Anderson down with a drop on Sunday.

Week 6 vs. PIT

Receiving: 0 / 0 / 0 on 1 targets

Royal was used mostly in pass protection against the Steelers. He was targeted only once on the rare occasions he lined up in the slot in four wide receiver packages and dropped the pass.

Week 13 vs. SD

Receiving: 0 / 0 / 0 on 1 targets

Royal saw one target early on in the game, but it was knocked away. He didn't register a single reception and was hardly heard from or seen the rest of the way.

Week 14 vs. PIT

Receiving: 0 / 0 / 0 on 1 targets

Second tight end Robert Royal had one target in the first quarter on a pass that hit him in the hands but it was too high for him to pull down for the catch.

Week 17 vs. JAX

Receiving: 2 / 34 / 0 on 2 targets

Royal got open on a seam route off play-action early for a 29-yard gain and added one other short reception later.
