Receiving: 3 / 21 / 0 on 7 targets
Shiancoe tipped a ball in the end zone that was nearly reeled in by WR Bernard Berrian but if he had not touched it then Berrian would have had a better chance to catch the ball. Shiancoe shared targets out of the tight end spot with TE Garrett Mills.
Receiving: 1 / 23 / 0 on 2 targets
All of Visanthe Shiancoe's action was in the first half. He made one very nice catch and even got a few yards after the catch. However, he was not heard from again the rest of the game.
Receiving: 2 / 38 / 1 on 3 targets
Shiancoe's big play of the game came when he hauled in a pass from QB Gus Frerotte that went for a 34 yard touchdown pass. The score was his first of the year. Shiancoe did have a ball in his hands that would have went for a longer gain, but a hard hit by Carolina CB Chris Gamble dislodged the ball and the pass fell incomplete.
Receiving: 4 / 47 / 0 on 8 targets
Shiancoe was one of QB Gus Frerotte's two favorite targets on the day and early on was used both under coverage and as a downfield receiver. His biggest gain came in the second quarter when he easily blew past the linebacker assigned to cover him and hauled in a 22 yard reception. Had Frerotte not thrown the ball slightly behind him, he might have been able to gain an additional ten yards. As the game progressed, however, and the Vikings were forced to try and amass points quickly deeper downfield, Shiancoe saw his targets drained away. As a result, a day that began with some promise for above average production ended with solid, if unspectacular, yardage totals.
Receiving: 2 / 16 / 1 on 2 targets
Shiancoe caught a touchdown pass from Chester Taylor on a trick play, but did not see much more offense coming his way.
Receiving: 1 / 10 / 0 on 1 targets
Shiancoe caught the only pass thrown his way.
Receiving: 4 / 68 / 1 on 5 targets
Shiancoe caught four of his five targets for 68 yards and a touchdown; the one target he didn't catch was nowhere near him. Shiancoe scored his touchdown near the end of the first quarter when Frerotte found him for a 24 yard score.
Receiving: 1 / 25 / 1 on 2 targets
Visanthe Shiancoe had a very nice touchdown catch. He also had a key drop that could have cost the Vikings. That catch would have been a first down and the Vikings could have run the clock out.
Receiving: 3 / 4 / 0 on 4 targets
The most important stat that many miss on Visanthe Shiancoe is drops. Shiancoe had no drops Sunday. But, all of his targets were short drop offs with no one around. He didn't have to catch a pass down the sideline or crossing the middle.
Receiving: 2 / 41 / 0 on 3 targets
Shiancoe was targeted four times and finished with two receptions for 41 yards. Both of his receptions resulted in first downs.
Receiving: 3 / 60 / 0 on 3 targets
Shiancoe didn't see a lot of action, but he made it count. All of his work came in the second half, with his big play also being the game's longest play from scrimmage. Gus Frerotte rolled out off a play-action fake and found Shiancoe down the seam for a 40 yard gain. The ball was actually tipped halfway to Shiancoe, but he maintained concentration and managed to hang on and pick up good yardage after the catch.
Receiving: 1 / 20 / 0 on 3 targets
TE Visanthe Shiancoe was not much of a factor in the win.
Receiving: 5 / 65 / 1 on 5 targets
Shiancoe had several nice receptions down the seam, which was really where Detroit was at its softest defensively. In addition to leading the team in receptions and receiving yardage, Shiancoe also caught the only passing touchdown of the game for Minnesota. On the play, he gave a great block fake before quickly getting to his feet out into the flat. QB Tarvaris Jackson rolled out off a play-action fake and easily found the big tight end for the score, which turned out to be the eventual game-winner.
Receiving: 1 / 8 / 0 on 1 targets
Shiancoe only had one catch for eight yards.
Receiving: 7 / 136 / 2 on 7 targets
Visanthe Shiancoe was amazing. He didn't make a mistake all day. He did whatever he had to, to catch the ball. He also made many yards after the catch. It was fun to watch him play up to his potential. It looked like no one could cover him. One pass reception was between two defenders and Shiancoe held the ball as he was sandwiched.
Receiving: 2 / 14 / 0 on 3 targets
Visanthe Shiancoe played very well but only had three targets on the day. He was able to get a first down on a great play that kept the game winning drive alive. He had a lot of energy and played hard but did not have many targets.
