QB redraft rankings by Matt Waldman

|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Drew Brees | NO | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: Brees had a bad year as a football player, throwing 19 interceptions, and he still led the league with 43 touchdowns and 5177 yards. What more do you want to know, that he can produce as the No.1 fantasy QB with a collection of receivers that some might break 4000 with? Sorry, Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham, and Lance Moore, but it's true because none of you are consistent deep threats. Brees is a stud and his game hasn't aged, yet.

| 2 | Aaron Rodgers | GB | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: Another top QB with a bad year that translated to 39 touchdown passes and 4300 yards. Rodgers loses Greg Jennings, but often didn't have the receiver healthy enough in 2013 to contribute in the first place. The addition of two good running backs from the NFL Draft should help the vertical passing game and red zone production. Keep on rocking with Aaron Rodgers as your QB1 and I won't fault you if you want him as your top-ranked flamethrower.

| 3 | Peyton Manning | DEN | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: Manning could easily have a record season this year if you project the capability of his receivers Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, and Eric Decker. There is room for three fantasy starters at receiver in this offense in the same way that Austin Collie, Reggie Wayne, and Pierre Garcon functioned in Indianapolis. I can see moving Manning higher, but looking forward to seeing how the running game takes shape. If it doesn't, I'm moving Manning higher.

| 4 | Matt Ryan | ATL | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: Atlanta might have the best trio of outside receivers and tight end of any team in the league and the offense suits Ryan's talents quite well. Add Steven Jackson to the mix, an unsung receiver in his own right, and I think Ryan is in for another big year. Perhaps it will be his best year to date.

| 5 | Cam Newton | CAR | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: After a few clunkers in weeks 3,5,and 8, Newton was borderline awesome from weeks 9-16. He continued to run the ball successfully and eight rushing touchdowns may have been 40 percent less than his 2011 totals, but still a good figure for a QB. Steve Smith can still get it done and I like the addition of veteran Domenik Hixon. You may have to stay patient with some weekly ups and downs during spots of the season, but Newton is a fine QB1 capable of dominant performances.

| 6 | Tom Brady | NE | show |
[Jun 18th] Matt Waldman says: We've seen what Tom Brady does with and without top outside receivers. Even with a bunch of interesting rookie prospects entering Patriots camp, I wouldn't classify this wide receiver corps as anything more than mediocre in talent. This might concern fantasy owners who are worried about Rob Gronkowski's injury lingering into the season when Aaron Hernandez hasn't played a full season since entering the NFL. I'm still optimistic that Brady can remain a solid QB1, but less confident about him as a top-five QB unless one of the rookies bursts onto the scene.

| 7 | Russell Wilson | SEA | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: Wilson was a high-end QB2 for me entering last season and he delivered. With addition of Percy Harvin and Martellus Bennett means Wilson will have enough weapons to provide more consistent QB1 production this year. I think I have Wilson ranked a little low, but I have to consider that Seattle remains a run-heavy team. Look for more efficiency from Wilson and bigger plays, at the very least. I'd take Wilson after the stud QBs leave the board and hope he makes that leap to elite production. At worst, you should have a strong team around a low-end QB1 if you drafted well. At best, Wilson could put you over the top.

| 8 | Tony Romo | DAL | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: Romo won't win you fantasy leagues with his play, but he's good enough to help you keep pace while leaning on other stars to have big games. The fact that Dez Bryant finally put a full season together was a big help. Jason Witten is still going strong, so even if Miles Austin, Demarco Murray, and the offensive line blow tires, Romo has still gotten it done as a fantasy starter. This alone should make him a guy that you target as among the safer options at quarterback.

| 9 | Matthew Stafford | DET | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: Stafford has the skill to develop into an elite option, but he needs more weaponry with the professionalism and health of Calvin Johnson. Stafford nearly threw for 5000 yards again this year, but his 20 touchdowns should have been closer to 40 with that kind of yardage total.

| 10 | Andrew Luck | IND | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: I don't blame you if you pick Luck over Stafford this year, but be warned that the Colts are changing the offense. Also be warned that the Colts might choose to like Darrius Heyward-Bey a little too much. I'm surprised they even picked the Raiders receiver because he doesn't fit the profile of receivers they have. That first thing on the profile is the ability to catch the ball in tight coverage. Luck's upside is in the Manning-Ryan range of fantasy quarterback, but the offensive line has to do a better job. Until then, think Tony Romo-tier.

| 11 | Robert Griffin III | WAS | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: I'm on board with Griffin as a future great. First I want to be on board that he's healthy enough to pose a threat as a runner, because the offense is built around the spread read. This can be adjusted, but it will also forced adjustments to the passing game. Within a few years I believe Griffin can become a top-tier pocket quarterback because he has all the tools and demonstrates the acumen. I'll be surprised if it happens this year, because rehabbing from an injury and perfecting his craft will be a tall order. But even if he is a similar passer skill-wise as last year that is good enough to consider him as a low-end QB1.

| 12 | Carson Palmer | ARI | show |
[Jun 13th] Matt Waldman says: Palmer's demise is greatly exaggerated. He's a confident passer willing to target receivers in tight spots. That was the problem in Oakland because he lacked experienced receivers capable of catching these passes. Since Kurt Warner retired, Larry Fitzgerald has lacked a quarterback willing to give him the ball after getting two inches of daylight on his defender. If you ask me, this is like Chocolate and Peanut butter.

| 14 | Eli Manning | NYG | |
| 15 | Colin Kaepernick | SF | |
| 16 | Josh Freeman | TB | |
| 17 | Andy Dalton | CIN | |
| 18 | Philip Rivers | SD | |
| 19 | Michael Vick | PHI | |
| 20 | Matt Schaub | HOU | |
| 21 | Ben Roethlisberger | PIT | |
| 22 | Ryan Tannehill | MIA | |
| 23 | Joe Flacco | BAL | |
| 24 | Brandon Weeden | CLE | |

| 26 | Sam Bradford | STL | |
| 27 | Jake Locker | TEN | |
| 28 | Christian Ponder | MIN | |
| 29 | Mark Sanchez | NYJ | |
| 30 | Matt Flynn | OAK | |
| 31 | Chad Henne | JAX | |
| 32 | Kevin Kolb | BUF | show |
[Jun 18th] Matt Waldman says: Kolb should begin the season as the Bills starter. He played in an up-tempo offense at Houston, so Doug Marrone's system could be a surprisingly good fit. What it means is that Kolb should have some decent games - good enough to consider as a No.2 QB for a fantasy roster - until there's about 4-6 weeks of game tape for opponents to study. Then I think the bottom drops out and we see E.J. Manuel.
