QB redraft rankings by Jeff Pasquino

| Rank | Player | Team | Comment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Aaron Rodgers | GB | |
| 2 | Drew Brees | NO | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Sean Payton is back to lead the Saints, a team that is all about the passing game. Drew Brees is the leader of the New Orleans offense, and he has put up huge figures year over year. The Saints have a stud tight end in Jimmy Graham, two strong wide receivers in Marques Colston and Lance Moore, and a great scatback receiver in Darren Sproles. With the Saints struggling to put together a solid ground game, I expect Brees to push 40 touchdowns and 5,000 yards once again this year.

| 3 | Peyton Manning | DEN | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Peyton Manning had a strong 2012, and now he gets additional help in the passing attack with the addition of Wes Welker. Denver is going to use three wide receivers as a base setup, which will only increase the passing game and Manning's fantasy value. Add in that the Broncos are questionable in their ground game and it is easy to see a Top 5 fantasy year for Peyton Manning this season.

| 4 | Matt Ryan | ATL | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Matt Ryan has a great fantasy future with so many weapons in the Atlanta passing attack. Julio Jones and Roddy White are great WR1 options, and for 2013 Tony Gonzalez will remain a solid tight end target. Adding Steven Jackson helps as well, as he is a great receiver out of the backfield.

| 5 | Tom Brady | NE | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Tom Brady takes a little bit of a hit this year with the loss of Wes Welker (Denver) and no more Brandon Lloyd, but his big tight ends - when healthy - are great weapons. Brady will use both Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez in the passing game, along with Welker's replacement in former Ram Danny Amendola. Brady should be in line for another solid campaign in 2013, but he may not post high end elite fantasy numbers.

| 6 | Colin Kaepernick | SF | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Colin Kaepernick gets a huge fantasy uptick for a quarterback who can run. Remember Michael Vick in Atlanta? Rushing for a quarterback is such a big boost, and with Frank Gore winding down I like Kaepernick to get 500+ yards rushing quite easily this season. The loss of Michael Crabtree will hurt, but Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis are quite capable receivers. I would not be surprised to see the 49ers add another wide receiver (such as Brandon Lloyd) to the mix.

| 7 | Andrew Luck | IND | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Andrew Luck is a solid passer, and the entire Colts offense runs through him. Indianapolis is a very one-dimensional team without a solid tailback option (Vick Ballard scares no one). Reggie Wayne is a solid top target and both tight ends (Coby Fleener, Dwayne Allen) are always in the mix in the Red Zone. Add in T.Y. Hilton along with Derrius Heyward-Bey at WR3 and Luck should easily top 4,000 yards and be in the range of 30 touchdowns this year. Luck will continue to develop the Indianapolis offense with young options in the passing game for years to come.

| 8 | Tony Romo | DAL | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Romo has two big weapons in the passing game - tight end in Jason Witten and stud wide reciever in Dez Bryant - but the rest of his options are starting to wear down. Miles Austin is not what he once was, and Dallas' tailbacks are not strong as receivers out of the backfield. Romo can have big games and solid fantasy numbers, but I would rather have about 10 other guys before Romo.

| 9 | Matthew Stafford | DET | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Stafford has great upside in 2013 with the addition of Reggie Bush, a receiver more than a runner who should see plenty of targets out of the backfield. If Detroit can find a viable WR2 to compliment Calvin Johnson then Stafford could once again lead the league in pass attempts and have strong QB1 fantasy numbers.

| 10 | Ben Roethlisberger | PIT | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: The Steelers have been becoming more and more of a passing team, and Ben Roethlisberger has benefited from that change in offensive scope. Roethlisberger threw 25 touchdown passes last year (and just 8 INTs) in only 13 games. Projecting him out to a 16 game season would have put him in the Top 12 for fantasy quarterbacks last year. Pittsburgh is still rebuilding their ground game, and the addition of rookie Markus Wheaton will give Roethlisberger another deep threat target in 2013.

| 11 | Cam Newton | CAR | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: There are several reasons why I am not very high on Cam Newton's fantasy prospects. First, he has just one real target in Steve Smith, as the Panthers seem to have a perennial hunt for a second (and third) wide receiver. Greg Olsen is a solid tight end, but at some point a quarterback needs more than just two options. Next, Newton plays for a team that loves to run the ball, and while that does help Newton when he decides to tuck it and run himself, both Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams are not known to be strong receivers. Newton had under 4,000 yards passing and just 19 touchdown passes last year - so too much of his fantasy worth relies on his rushing numbers (741 yards and eight scores in 2012). With the strength of the division lying elsewhere, Newton has an uphill battle every week just to post a solid fantasy starter score.

| 12 | Russell Wilson | SEA | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Russell Wilson burst onto the scene last year, locking up the starting job in Seattle as a rookie. Wilson used his legs and arm to elevate himself into fantasy QB1 status and propel the Seahawks into Super Bowl contention. Now in Year 2, Wilson has another weapon with the addition of Percy Harvin. Wilson should build on his first campaign and benefit from a full offseason as the unquestioned starter, working with Harvin and the rest of the offense as Seattle makes another playoff push. Wilson had just 3,118 passing yards last year, so there is plenty of upside left for the young quarterback - in 2013 and beyond.

| 13 | Eli Manning | NYG | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Eli Manning is a strong NFL quarterback, but his fantasy numbers are usually just shy of being considered a top starter. Manning's best year came when he had three viable options at wide receiver, but for now he has just Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks - and Nicks always seems to be "nicked", as it were. Manning also cannot run to save his life, so all his stats have to come from his arm. The addition of TE Brandon Myers should help, as could second year tailback David Wilson, but for now I consider Manning a committee quarterback or a high end QB2.

| 14 | Joe Flacco | BAL | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Joe Flacco is coming off of a great playoff run to get the Ravens a Super Bowl victory, but Baltimore is not the same team entering 2013. Anquan Boldin is gone, which leaves a gaping hole at WR2 for the Ravens. TE Dennis Pitta may fill more of that role as could WR Jacoby Jones, but odds are that both Flacco and Baltimore will feel the loss of Boldin. I think Flacco can hit Torrey Smith early, deep and often, and with both Pitta and second TE Ed Dickson in the fold Flacco has some options, but the Ravens may see a leaner year in 2013. Flacco is a strong QB2 with QB1 fantasy upside, both this season and for years to come.

| 15 | Jay Cutler | CHI | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Jay Cutler has had some great seasons in the NFL - and all of them have come with Brandon Marshall as his top target. Cutler barely reached 3,000 yards last year and fell short of 20 touchdowns, but the Bears have added TE Martellus Bennett and second year receiver Alshon Jeffrey should be better in 2013. Chicago is also supposed to get Matt Forte more receptions this season with new head coach Marc Trestman, who brings a West Coast offensive scheme to the Bears.

| 16 | Andy Dalton | CIN | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Andy Dalton had high end QB2 fantasy numbers last year with just two legitimate targets - stud WR A.J. Green and tight end Jermaine Gresham. In April the Bengals drafted one of the best available tight ends in Tyler Eifert and also added potential feature tailback Giovani Bernard. Bernard is a solid receiver out of the backfield, so along with Eifert the Bengals have much better options for Dalton. The second WR position will be a battle between Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones, but the Bengals should have a much better passing game in 2013 - making Dalton a QB2 with QB1 fantasy upside.

| 17 | Robert Griffin III | WAS | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Ranking Robert Griffin III right now is difficult, especially for just the 2013 season. Griffin is coming off a major knee injury and is likely to miss all of the preseason and possibly the first few games of the regular season. With that in mind, and considering that he is just a second year player, I believe that Griffin should not be considered a Top 10 fantasy option for 2013 just for the risk, injury, and missed time factors. Once healthy and effective, I think he is a legitimate fantasy QB1 - but for now I have him as a higher end backup for this year with starter upside for the second half of 2013. Longer term - in Keeper and Dynasty formats - Griffin is certainly QB1 material - but the risk of injury is very high for the way he approaches the game.

| 18 | Philip Rivers | SD | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: This is a make or break year for Rivers, who needs his receivers to help him out this season, starting with veteran tight end Antonio Gates. The bigger issues for Rivers are the ground game and offensive line - both of which were very iffy last year. The Chargers did add former Patriot Danny Woodhead, who will catch plenty of passes out of the backfield. The addition of Danario Alexander midseason last year was a big boost, and if rookie Keenan Allen or another veteran like Malcom Floyd or Vincent Brown steps up then Rivers could be a strong QB2 with upside.

| 19 | Sam Bradford | STL | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: I love Sam Bradford this year. The Rams have really stepped up their passing game over the offseason, grabbing Jared Cook from Tennessee and then drafting Tavon Austin at the top of Round 1 in the NFL Draft. The run game for St. Louis will be weaker with Steven Jackson gone, but that only means a bigger reliance on Bradford to throw this year. Another former Mountaineer, Stedman Bailey, will push Chris Givens and Brian Quick for playing time at wideout. Bradford could top 4,000 yards passing and push the higher end of 25-30 touchdowns this year.

| 20 | Ryan Tannehill | MIA | show |
[Jun 12th] Jeff Pasquino says: Miami has been looking for a stud quarterback ever since Dan Marino retired, and they hope that Ryan Tannehill is that answer. The Dolphins have surrounded Tannehill with much better options entering 2013, starting with a true feature wide receiver in Mike Wallace. Miami also added Brandon Gibson (Rams) who will push to be the third wide receiver behind Wallace and Brian Hartline. Another upgrade came at tight end, where former Jet Dustin Keller signed over the offseason. The loss of Jake Long and also Reggie Bush will hurt, but Tannehill could shine as he develops further in his second season.

| 21 | Matt Schaub | HOU | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: The Houston Texans are trying to get their passing game going to compliment the ground game behind Arian Foster and Ben Tate. Matt Schaub has had to rely on Andre Johnson and tight end Owen Daniels as his top two targets, but the Texans have struggled to find other viable options. By drafting DeAndre Hopkins early in April, Houston is giving Schaub a target to stretch the field. Schaub may not throw 30+ times a game, but if Hopkins develops then Schaub becomes a solid fantasy QB2.
(hide this) | |||
| 22 | Jake Locker | TEN | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: This is a make or break year for Jake Locker. The Titans have given him young wide receiver targets to work with (Kenny Britt, Kendall Wright and rookie Justin Hunter) and added TE Delanie Walker to replace the departed Jared Cook (Rams). Chris Johnson and Shonn Greene should handle the run game effectively, so it will be up for Locker to step up and run the offense. Locker will also be running more and rolling out, giving him fantasy upside as a QB2.
(hide this) | |||
| 23 | Michael Vick | PHI | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Michael Vick used to be considered a strong fantasy QB1 and have high end long term prospects. How times change. Now, Vick is competing with Nick Foles to become the starter for the Eagles in 2013. Vick is the favorite to win the job, but he has struggled to hold down the fort and stay healthy all season long. Vick has added weight since January and is learning the new Chip Kelly offense quickly, so the upside is there. Grabbing him as a low end QB2 or even a QB3 with major upside is a great plan for 2013, and Vick has upside beyond this season if he runs the new offense in Philadelphia effectively.

| 24 | Matt Flynn | OAK | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Matt Flynn was brought to Seattle last year to be the starter, but the Seahawks were lucky enough to find gold in Round 3 of the 2012 NFL Draft in Russell Wilson. That made Flynn expendable, and the Seahawks were all too happy to ship Flynn to the Raiders for two late draft picks in 2014 and 2015. Flynn should be the starter for the Raiders (as long as he can hold off another rookie, Tyler Wilson) and as such he will have good wide receivers in Denarius Moore, Rod Streater and Juron Criner plus a nice tailback with good hands out of the backfield in Darren McFadden.
(hide this) | |||
| 25 | Josh Freeman | TB | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Freeman is the starter for Tampa - for now. The Buccaneers are losing patience and confidence that Freeman is the long term solution at quarterback, but aside from Freeman, only rookie Mike Glennon is on the roster to push him. Freeman will hold the job this season but he needs to put up solid numbers to hold the job long term.

| 26 | Alex Smith | KC | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Kansas City traded for the former starter in San Francisco, and they paid a big price (2013 second round pick and a conditional third in 2014). Smith will be Andy Reid's new starting quarterback with no threats to his job, which makes Smith a solid starter for this season and probably again next year. The questions are regarding the passing game and his targets. Dwayne Bowe will be the top wide receiver and former Colt Donnie Avery looks to be the other starter. Rookie TE Travis Kelce will give Smith an additional option, plus Jamaal Charles should give Smith a boost with catches out of the backfield.

| 27 | Carson Palmer | ARI | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Arizona traded with Oakland for Carson Palmer in April for late round draft picks, but the Cardinals felt that the veteran quarterback was the best viable option for their quarterback position both for this season and for 2014. His three-year deal has outs in 2014 and 2015, but odds are that the Cardinals will try and groom a younger quarterback next year behind the veteran. Palmer is an upgrade for Arizona and immediately improves the overall passing game out in the desert, especially for Larry Fitzgerald.

| 28 | Brandon Weeden | CLE | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Brandon Weeden remains the favorite to start for the Browns once again this year, and Cleveland has lots of young talent on offense for Weeden to show off his skills. The Browns have Josh Gordon and Greg Little at wideout, Jordan Cameron at tight end and a strong tailback in Trent Richardson, so if Weeden is capable of managing the offense and spreading the ball around to his young talent, Weeden offers good upside as a developmental quarterback.
(hide this) | |||
| 29 | Christian Ponder | MIN | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Christian Ponder might have lost his top receiver from last year (Percy Harvin), but the addition of Greg Jennings (Green Bay) and rookie draft pick Cordarelle Patterson give the Vikings solid receivers to compliment the passing game and tight end Kyle Rudolph. Minnesota will continue to be a run-first team with Adrian Peterson, but Ponder looks to have solid receiving options to move the ball and create a balanced attack for this season and for several seasons to come.
(hide this) | |||
| 30 | Blaine Gabbert | JAX | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Blaine Gabbert is facing a make or break season, and that already took a big hit with the four-game suspension for Justin Blackmon. Gabbert needs not only Cecil Shorts to step up but also other targets to compliment the passing attack, plus Maurice Jones-Drew must round back into form after recent injuries. The road ahead does not look promising for Gabbert, who might be leading the worst team once again in 2013 and lose his job as a result even if he improves over last season.

| 31 | EJ Manuel | BUF | |
| 32 | Geno Smith | NYJ | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Rookie Geno Smith has an immediate opportunity to become the starter for the New York Jets with only to much maligned Mark Sanchez in his way to starting. Smith will have to keep his ego in check and develop as an NFL player and as a leader quickly. The Jets do not have a lot of weapons on offense, so Smith's athletic ability will be relied upon once he gets his chance to start.
(hide this) | |||
| 33 | Kevin Kolb | BUF | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Kevin Kolb gets another fresh start in Buffalo, but odds are that he will just be keeping the starter's seat warm until rookie first round draft pick EJ Manuel is ready to take over. Kolb needs to take advantage of any opportunity he gets as he is auditioning for the entire league once again for future work.
(hide this) | |||
| 34 | Mark Sanchez | NYJ | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Mark Sanchez is the starting quarterback - for now - for the New York Jets. He remains squarely in the hot seat and will likely have no choice but to turn the reins over to rookie Geno Smith at some point this season.
(hide this) | |||
| 35 | Kirk Cousins | WAS | show |
[Jun 8th] Jeff Pasquino says: Kirk Cousins has value for all Robert Griffin III owners, as Griffin may miss the first few weeks in 2013. Cousins was an effective starter and he can move the ball as a more traditional drop back passer. Longer term, Washington may want to deal the young quarterback to a quarterback-hungry team.
