WR redraft rankings by Jason Wood
submitted 7 days ago
| Rank | Player | Team | Comment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Calvin Johnson | DET | |
| 2 | Demaryius Thomas | DEN | |
| 3 | A.J. Green | CIN | |
| 4 | Dez Bryant | DAL | |
| 5 | Andre Johnson | HOU | |
| 6 | Brandon Marshall | CHI | |
| 7 | Roddy White | ATL | |
| 8 | Julio Jones | ATL | |
| 9 | Larry Fitzgerald | ARI | |
| 10 | Randall Cobb | GB | |
| 11 | Vincent Jackson | TB | |
| 12 | Victor Cruz | NYG | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Cruz proved last year that his breakout season was not a fluke, and now he's motivated by a contract year. Cruz has great rapport with Eli Manning, and should vie for WR1 fantasy honors this season.

| 13 | Jordy Nelson | GB | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Jordy Nelson is being overshadowed by the younger, less proven Randall Cobb. Yet, with Greg Jennings out of the picture, there is plenty of opportunity for both Cobb and Nelson to flourish. Nelson is one of my favorite value picks to be a high end WR2 this year.
(hide this) | |||
| 14 | Percy Harvin | SEA | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: I consider myself a Harvin fan, but it seems my ranking is toward the lower end of our staff. That's a reflection of the combination of Harvin's injury history, changing teams, and the fact Seattle is a run heavy offense.
(hide this) | |||
| 15 | Antonio Brown | PIT | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: After being rewarded with a huge extension last year, Brown was a popular choice to ascend to elite fantasy status, but instead he regressed, showing none of the explosiveness (11.9 yards per catch) that was his hallmark in 2011 (16.1 yards per catch). Yet, with Mike Wallace now in Miami, Brown should be in line for a career high in targets and that means a return to 1,000+ yards and fantasy WR2 value.
(hide this) | |||
| 16 | Dwayne Bowe | KC | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Dwayne Bowe is going to love playing for Andy Reid, not to mention being thrown to by a far more accurate quarterback in Alex Smith. Don't be afraid to target Bowe as a WR1 and if yo you can draft him as your WR2, it sets up a championship caliber foundation.
(hide this) | |||
| 17 | Marques Colston | NO | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: You can set a watch to Colston's consistency, as he remains Drew Brees' preferred target, particularly in the red zone.
(hide this) | |||
| 18 | Steve Smith | CAR | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Another offseason has gone by without the Panthers bolstering the receiving corps, which means Steve Smith is a mortal lock to be among the NFL's most targeted receivers.
(hide this) | |||
| 19 | Hakeem Nicks | NYG | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Knee and foot problems have derailed an ascendant career, as Nicks has been overtaken by Victor Cruz as the Giants' best offensive weapon. Nicks is in his free agent year, and has a lot to prove to himself and the team. We know Nicks is capable of Top 5 fantasy numbers if he can play a full season, just make sure you don't draft him expecting that level of production.
(hide this) | |||
| 20 | Greg Jennings | MIN | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Greg Jennings got the big contract he was after and will now suit up for his former division rival in Minnesota. Unfortunately Christian Ponder is a far cry from Aaron Rodgers, which should temper fantasy owners' enthusiasm for a big season from Jennings.
(hide this) | |||
| 21 | Cecil Shorts | JAX | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Shorts was one of last year's pleasant surprises, delivering top 25 fantasy value in spite of playing in the league's most inept offense. With Justin Blackmon facing a suspension, and no one else pushing him for playing time, Shorts should replicate last year's value.
(hide this) | |||
| 22 | Wes Welker | DEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: When you average 11 yards per catch, there's a huge difference between 110 receptions and 80-85 receptions. Most fantasy owners are forgetting that and over drafting Welker. I'm likely avoiding him this year unless his ADP falls a few more rounds.
(hide this) | |||
| 23 | Reggie Wayne | IND | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Wayne was a marvel last year, finding the fountain of youth. But with a new OC and system, and an ADP that prices in high end fantasy WR2 value, I'm not as enamored with Wayne this season.
(hide this) | |||
| 24 | Mike Wallace | MIA | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Will Mike Wallace live up to his new contract as the Dolphins top receiver? Wallace is a high risk fantasy pick this year because of the changing locale, offensive system, and the drop off from Ben Roethlisberger to Ryan Tannehill.
(hide this) | |||
| 25 | Steve Johnson | BUF | |
| 26 | Pierre Garcon | WAS | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Garcon's foot is the only thing keeping him from ranking in the top 15-18 at the position. He opted against surgery and that raises the potential of another season of missed time and/or limited effectiveness.
(hide this) | |||
| 27 | Danny Amendola | NE | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: I'm just not interested in a guy that can't separate from defenders, is a glorified first down possession receiver, and can't stay healthy. When he's in the lineup he will produce in PPR formats, but his current ADP assumes the second coming of Wes Welker. Thanks, but no thanks.
(hide this) | |||
| 28 | Anquan Boldin | SF | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Boldin went from Super Bowl winner to Super Bowl contender, and then went from a complementary role to a focal point after Michael Crabtree tore his Achilles. Boldin's days as a fantasy WR1 are long gone, but he's now in the position to be an every week start in 3WR lineups.
(hide this) | |||
| 29 | DeSean Jackson | PHI | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Jackson hit the jackpot when the Eagles hired Chip Kelly, because Kelly has a history of leveraging players with Jackson's skill set. This is effectively a contract year for the former Pro Bowler, and I think he'll rise to the occasion.
(hide this) | |||
| 30 | Mike Williams | TB | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Williams finished as the 17th ranked receiver in 2012, and now has two near elite seasons in three years. For some reason fantasy owners are expecting Williams to regress into a low end WR3 or worse, which means you NEED to target this guy at his current ADP.
(hide this) | |||
| 31 | Torrey Smith | BAL | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Smith showed no growth in his 2nd year, but established a baseline that's enviable. 850+ yards and 8+ TDs will now be perceived as the floor, and with Anquan Boldin gone most will expect Smith to take another leap forward in Year Three. I'm open to the idea, but his inconsistency is enough to keep me from overpaying.
(hide this) | |||
| 32 | Eric Decker | DEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Let's hope the obsession with Wes Welker continues to drive down Decker's ADP. The Broncos will throw enough to make Demaryius Thomas, Welker and Decker relevant, and I believe it's Welker, not Decker, that will see his year-end stats fall the most.
(hide this) | |||
| 33 | Jeremy Maclin | PHI | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: I've always been a Maclin fan, but the new coaching staff raises questions. He's too young and physically gifted to abandon, but I'm going to need to see hard evidence in the preseason that Maclin remains a priority.
(hide this) | |||
| 34 | Emmanuel Sanders | PIT | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Sanders was nearly poached by the Patriots, but instead returns to Pittsburgh ready to be a full-time starter for the first time in his career.
(hide this) | |||
| 35 | Kendall Wright | TEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Kendall Wright averaged a meager 9.8 yards per reception as a rookie, but that was as much about the Titans offensive play-calling than it was a condemnation of Wright's ability to separate from defenders. At worst Wright should be an 80-catch, high end possession option this year but could quite possibly emerge as a star.
(hide this) | |||
| 36 | Josh Gordon | CLE | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: The Gordon hype train is getting crazy, and his ADP could end up pricing me out of the second year talent. Yet, based purely on ability there is no argument he's capable of putting up huge numbers. If Gordon had a good quarterback, I would be far more comfortable projecting him as a top 15-18 sleeper. The 2-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy adds more risk to the equation
(hide this) | |||
| 37 | Tavon Austin | STL | |
| 38 | Lance Moore | NO | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Moore has 22 touchdowns in the last three seasons, and is coming off his first 1,000-yard season. The Saints are an elite passing team and Moore's starting job appears safe. That's a good recipe for fantasy value, but only if you view him as a WR3/flex option.
(hide this) | |||
| 39 | Michael Floyd | ARI | |
| 40 | T.Y. Hilton | IND | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Hilton's rookie numbers were impressive (50 receptions for 861 yards and 7 touchdowns) but he needs to cut down on the drops, and will need to refine his route running under the more precision-based system OC Pep Hamilton is bringing from Stanford. Hilton is among a handful of 2nd and 3rd year receivers with the opportunity to break out, but he's not my top choice.
(hide this) | |||
| 41 | Miles Austin | DAL | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Austin cannot afford another injury riddled season. The Cowboys are ready to move on and rookie Terrance Williams is waiting in the wings.
(hide this) | |||
| 42 | Danario Alexander | SD | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Alexander stepped into the vacuum at receiver in San Diego and put up big numbers, but his injury history is stunning and the Chargers will have Vincent Brown and Keenan Allen in the mix this year.
(hide this) | |||
| 43 | Denarius Moore | OAK | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Moore took a step forward in Year Two (51 receptions for 741 yards and 7 TDs) but was inconsistent. With a new coaching staff and uncertain quarterback situation, enthusiasm should be tempered.
(hide this) | |||
| 44 | Justin Blackmon | JAX | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Blackmon started slowly but looked like a future star as the 2012 season progressed. Unfortunately his demons (alcohol) came back to haunt him and he's now facing a 4-game suspension to start the year. The four games are one thing, but if he's having trouble with drinking again, you have to wonder if his career is in jeopardy.
(hide this) | |||
| 45 | Chris Givens | STL | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Givens averaged 16.6 yards per reception on a team that had no other credible downfield threats. Entering his second season, Givens is being overlooked in favor of rookie Tavon Austin, but Givens is the likely starter opposite Austin. The former Wake Forest Demon Deacon is a target to stash, particularly if rebuilt offensive line provides Sam Bradford a platform to finally live up to his 'franchise' label.
(hide this) | |||
| 46 | Santonio Holmes | NYJ | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Holmes is in a toxic situation and appears to be struggling to return from last year's injuries. If he gets back on the practice field, I could see bumping him up a tier or two. Until then, he's in my 'avoid' list.
(hide this) | |||
| 47 | Vincent Brown | SD | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: I believe Vincent Brown would've pushed for rookie of the year honors last year had he not gotten hurt. Now healthy, he should step into a major role immediately and I wouldn't be surprised if Brown ends the season as a Top 25 fantasy receiver.
(hide this) | |||
| 48 | Stephen Hill | NYJ | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Hill has obvious assets, namely his size and speed. But his hands and route running and conditioning need work, and it's unclear whether the current Jets regime is the right fit. New OC Marty Mornhinweg will get more out of Hill, but Hill is far down on my list of 2nd and 3rd year breakout candidates.
(hide this) | |||
| 49 | Sidney Rice | SEA | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Sidney Rice left Minnesota for Seattle with the promise of becoming a star. Percy Harvin has now left Minnesota for Seattle under the same premise. The Seahawks are a run heavy team and I'm not sure Rice will see enough targets to be anything more than a fantasy WR3.
(hide this) | |||
| 50 | Brian Hartline | MIA | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Hartline is a good NFL player, but is not elite in any facet of the game. With Mike Wallace in place, Hartline can slot into his more natural role as a complementary starter, but I don't see a lot to get excited about in fantasy circles.
(hide this) | |||
| 51 | James Jones | GB | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Jones is clearly the third option in the Packers receiving corps, and last year's breakout season was highly unusual in that it was driven by 14 touchdown receptions on just 64 receptions. TDs are volatile year to year, and Jones will regress. Don't overpay.
(hide this) | |||
| 52 | Jeremy Kerley | NYJ | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Kerley was a marginally useful fantasy receiver in PPR leagues last year, and may fill that same role in 2013 depending on Santonio Holmes' health.
(hide this) | |||
| 53 | Rod Streater | OAK | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Streater worked his way into major snaps in Week 12 and put up 18 receptions for 351 yards and a TD over the final five games. Over a full season that equates to 58 receptions and 1,120 yards. The Raiders depth chart is undefined at nearly every position, but Streater is someone to target for the back end of your roster.
(hide this) | |||
| 54 | Brandon LaFell | CAR | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: LaFell is among the worst projected NFL starting receivers, but the Panthers did nothing to threaten his role in free agency.
(hide this) | |||
| 55 | DeAndre Hopkins | HOU | |
| 56 | Alshon Jeffery | CHI | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Was Jeffery a victim of the Bears conservative philosophy and porous offensive line? Or was he a raw rookie with a lot to learn? Probably somewhere in between.
(hide this) | |||
| 57 | Malcom Floyd | SD | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Floyd is a competent NFL receiver, but the Chargers would love to see his role reduced in favor of Vincent Brown and Keenan Allen.
(hide this) | |||
| 58 | Kenny Britt | TEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: I'm not a Britt fan. I recognize he could put up monster numbers based on physical ability, but his injury history and work ethic scare me off.
(hide this) | |||
| 59 | Greg Little | CLE | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Little has been overtaken by Josh Gordon, and the last thing I want to do is draft the #2 receiver on a team with Brandon Weeden at quarterback.
(hide this) | |||
| 60 | Brian Quick | STL | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Quick is the forgotten man in St. Louis, but it would be foolish to completely forget about a player taken in the 2nd round just a season ago.
