RB redraft-PPR rankings by Jason Wood
submitted 6 days ago
| Rank | Player | Team | Comment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Adrian Peterson | MIN | |
| 2 | Ray Rice | BAL | |
| 3 | Doug Martin | TB | |
| 4 | C.J. Spiller | BUF | |
| 5 | Jamaal Charles | KC | |
| 6 | Arian Foster | HOU | |
| 7 | LeSean McCoy | PHI | |
| 8 | Alfred Morris | WAS | |
| 9 | Marshawn Lynch | SEA | |
| 10 | Steven Jackson | ATL | |
| 11 | Trent Richardson | CLE | |
| 12 | Chris Johnson | TEN | |
| 13 | Matt Forte | CHI | |
| 14 | Maurice Jones-Drew | JAX | |
| 15 | Frank Gore | SF | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Gore remains the centerpiece of a run heavy team with the league's best defense, which guarantees that the 49ers won't have to lose sight of the run in order to play catch up. He represents terrific value in the late 2nd or early 3rd round.

| 16 | Darren Sproles | NO | |
| 17 | DeMarco Murray | DAL | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: We've seen what Murray is capable of when healthy, but his health is hardly a certainty. Based on ability and opportunity, Murray should rank as a 1st rounder, but he's better suited as your RB2 in the 2nd or 3rd round to properly discount the injury risk.

| 18 | Reggie Bush | DET | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Reggie Bush has taken his services to Detroit to play the role Jahvid Best was meant for. The Lions threw the ball 700+ times last year, and Bush should be in line for 70-80 receptions over a full season, making him a dynamic RB2 in PPR leagues.

| 19 | David Wilson | NYG | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: As long as David Wilson can keep the ball in his hands, I expect him to emerge as a feature back rather than share time with Andre Brown. Wilson is vastly more talented than Brown in every facet of the game and can be a 300-touch, 1,500+ yard producer if he manages not to fumble his way back into Tom Coughlin's dog house.

| 20 | LeVeon Bell | PIT | |
| 21 | Montee Ball | DEN | show |
[Jun 13th] Jason Wood says: While John Fox has historically been tough on rookie RBs, the decision to release Willis McGahee in June cements Ball's position as the Broncos feature back.

| 22 | Lamar Miller | MIA | |
| 23 | Eddie Lacy | GB | |
| 24 | Stevan Ridley | NE | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Ridley emerged from a committee backfield last year to give the Patriots their best RB since Corey Dillon. Bill Belichick is unpredictable so we can't completely buy int a repeat for Ridley, but there was too much to like in his game last year to not take a chance at his current ADP.

| 25 | Jonathan Stewart | CAR | |
| 26 | Darren McFadden | OAK | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: McFadden has disappointed year after year yet the fantasy owners are lured in by his mythic 'potential.' Don't be that owner, let someone else take the risk while you roster someone that will actually help you win your league title.
(hide this) | |||
| 27 | Ahmad Bradshaw | IND | show |
[Jun 11th] Jason Wood says: It's unusual for a veteran free agent RB to get a look this late in the preseason, but Bradshaw secured a $1.1mm one-year deal to play for the Colts. He's immediately the team's most talented RB and should be considered the favorite to start as long as his oft-injured feet cooperate.

| 28 | Mikel Leshoure | DET | |
| 29 | Ryan Mathews | SD | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: I'm not buying into the Ryan Mathews hype machine, and view him as no better than a flex play. He hasn't played through injuries, and when he has been on the field we've rarely seen the skills requisite of an NFL feature back.
(hide this) | |||
| 30 | Chris Ivory | NYJ | |
| 31 | Mark Ingram | NO | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Ingram intrigues me, particularly because his health appears to be on the upswing. Yet the Saints are a pass first team with a stable of talented RBs who all have roles. Ingram is the kind of runner that is at his best when he gets 18-20 touches per game, and that's not going to happen unless Darren Sproles and/or Pierre Thomas get hurt for an extended period.
(hide this) | |||
| 32 | Rashard Mendenhall | ARI | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: The Cardinals have four running backs with intriguing skill sets, but Mendenhall is the odds on favorite to deliver fantasy value given his history with Bruce Arians. If I were more confident in the Cardinals offensive line, I would rank Mendenhall a tier or two higher.

| 33 | BenJarvus Green-Ellis | CIN | show |
[Jun 6th] Jason Wood says: Green-Ellis got off to a rocky start in Cincinnati but rounded into form by mid-season. Unfortunately the Bengals added Giovanni Bernard in the April draft, and many draft pundits including our own Sigmund Bloom believe Bernard is the best RB of the class.
(hide this) | |||
| 34 | Pierre Thomas | NO | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: The Saints make excellent use of their RBs, but unfortunately that's a problem for fantasy owners. Thomas has to share time with Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles, making him little more than a fantasy flex play.
(hide this) | |||
| 35 | Isaiah Pead | STL | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: I could be selling Pead way short, as I currently rank him third behind Zac Stacy and Daryl Richardson. As the preseason unfolds, Pead may emerge as the starter in which case my views will change markedly.

| 36 | Giovani Bernard | CIN | |
| 37 | Shane Vereen | NE | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: When Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen were drafted, many viewed Vereen as the better dynasty option. We now know differently. But we also know that the Patriots believe in the 'next man up' philosophy and Vereen has shown he can be productive if Belichick gives him an active role.

| 38 | Fred Jackson | BUF | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: C.J. Spiller has been fantastic since getting his opportunity, and with a new coaching staff in place, I see very little reason why Fred Jackson is going to be anything more than a traditional backup.
(hide this) | |||
| 39 | Ronnie Hillman | DEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: John Fox is notoriously tough on rookies, which is why I'm not ready to dismiss Ronnie Hillman's role in the Broncos offense. Entering his 2nd season, Hillman is in great shape and knows the offense. The consensus believes Montee Ball will be the new bell cow, but I'm willing to draft Hillman late in case the consensus is misreading the situation.

| 40 | Danny Woodhead | SD | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Woodhead has been a top 25 fantasy RB in two of the last three seasons, yet is far off the radar this year. He's moved on to San Diego, a team without an offensive identity and in need of sure-handed playmakers. While Woodhead is never going to become an every week starter, he is worth consideration as your bye week fill in particularly in PPR leagues.

| 41 | Zac Stacy | STL | |
| 42 | Ben Tate | HOU | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Arian Foster has taken his lumps, but remains one of the league's most productive backs. Tate would be an every week fantasy starter in Foster's absence, which makes him worth a look in the mid- to late rounds.
(hide this) | |||
| 43 | Johnathan Franklin | GB | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: A lot of my colleagues favor Franklin to Eddie Lacy, but I'm not in the same camp. Franklin -- while talented -- is too small to be a credible every down tailback at the NFL level, and I believe Lacy can shed his injury prone status to be a workhorse.
(hide this) | |||
| 44 | Andre Brown | NYG | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Andre Brown is getting a lot of credit for what amounts to a few weeks of yeoman work as an injury fill in. Had David Wilson not fumbled his way into Tom Coughlin's dog house, Andre Brown may have stayed on waivers forever. I believe David Wilson will be the new workhorse, and Brown will be irrelevant without an injury re-opening the door.
(hide this) | |||
| 45 | Jacquizz Rodgers | ATL | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: I'm not one of Rodgers' big supporters. If he was a special player, I think we would've seen his role in Atlanta expand by now, particularly since the Falcons were in dire need of someone to force Michael Turner to the bench. Now Turner is replaced by Steven Jackson, who is an elite receiver -- which means fewer opportunities for Rodgers to do what he does best.
(hide this) | |||
| 46 | Vick Ballard | IND | show |
[Jun 11th] Jason Wood says: I was very high on Ballard's chances this year, and viewed him as a legitimate sleeper thanks to Pep Hamilton's system emphasizing more throwing to the RB position. But the Colts signed Ahmad Bradshaw to a $1.1mm deal which at best creates a committee and at worst relegates Ballard to backup duties.
(hide this) | |||
| 47 | DeAngelo Williams | CAR | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Williams was the 23rd ranked fantasy RB last year, but is coming off the draft board very late. Credit that to his age (30) and the presence of both Jonathan Stewart and Cam Newton.
(hide this) | |||
| 48 | Mike Goodson | NYJ | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Goodson will compete with Chris Ivory for the starting role in New York, but Goodson's legal troubles this offseason cast a heavy shadow on his outlook.
(hide this) | |||
| 49 | Rashad Jennings | OAK | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: Jennings has the enviable position of backing up Darren McFadden. If Jennings can hold off rookie Latavius Murray, he's a must handcuff for anyone brave enough to roster McFadden.
(hide this) | |||
| 50 | Shonn Greene | TEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Jason Wood says: For a guy that's finished 18th and 15th among fantasy RBs in the last two seasons, Greene gets little respect. Yet, Greene is going from a team that had no choice but to force feed him carries, to a team where he'll sit behind a former 2,000-yard rusher earning huge dollars.
