WR redraft-PPR rankings by Heath Cummings

|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Calvin Johnson | DET | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Johnson is an incredible talent that will likely go down as one of the best receivers in the history of the game when all is said and done. That being said, it's concerning how little help Johnson has in the receiving corps and unlike A.J. Green and Julio Jones, Johnson's best years are likely no longer in front of him. I still believe he has several years remaining as a WR1 but I don't think being the best receiver of the past 2-3 seasons necessarily make him the best receiver for the next 2-3 seasons. Johnson is not likely to replicate his 122 receptions from 2012 as it was more than 20% more than he'd ever recorded before. I see approximately 100 catches for 1600 yards as more likely. One of the more unpredictable statistics in 2013 will be Johnson's touchdown total. He's had twelve or more three times and five or less three times in his career. I'd look for him to fall somewhere in the middle in 2013.

| 2 | A.J. Green | CIN | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: A.J. Green's first two seasons have been pretty close to unprecedented and there's reason to believe that he can still get better. What Green has done the past two seasons with very little to distract opposing defenses and a developing quarterback that most think is nothing more than an average signal-caller is amazing. He takes the "my-ball" mentality to a whole other level and is still improving as a route runner. The youth of this offense is what gives me the most hope for Green in the future. Every position can and should improve as a football player in 2013 which could turn Cincinnati into one of the more prolific offenses in the league. This makes Green my top receiver in any format for 2013. I fully expect a 2011 Calvin Johnson or 2007 Randy Moss season out of Green in the next 2-3 years.

| 3 | Brandon Marshall | CHI | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Brandon Marshall finally found his happy place in Chicago in 2012. He was a PPR machine in his reunion with Jay Cutler. I see another big year for Marshall ahead, but I'm not sure it will be quite as big. Alshon Jeffery should mature into a better second option and Martellus Bennett will provide a quality option in the middle of the field.
(hide this) | |||
| 4 | Dez Bryant | DAL | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Dez Bryant has matured and earned Tony Romo's trust which led to what everyone has always expected from Bryant, elite receiver production. Bryant posted career highs in nearly every single statistical category in 2012 so while a slight regression may be in order I anticipate fairly similar numbers.
(hide this) | |||
| 5 | Julio Jones | ATL | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Julio Jones showed great improvement in 2012 and should continue his development into an elite receiver in 2013. Jones is the only target on this offense that isn't approaching the end of their career and for that reason I think he'll see yet another increase in targets this season. He developed into a more complete receiver last year and proved that he can stay healthy for a 16 game season. I may have jumped the gun a little in predicting Jones as the alpha dog in the Falcons' receiving corps in 2012, but Roddy White is continuing to move farther away from his prime while Julio Jones is just approaching it. The change of the guard is coming, timing is the only discussion at this point.
(hide this) | |||
| 6 | Percy Harvin | SEA | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: I really thought I was doing a better job controlling my Harvin expectations, then I saw I was higher than anyone else on him in PPR. Throught the first eight weeks of 2012 Harvin was the #3 WR in fantasy points, then he got hurt...again. Whether it's been migraines or injuries, Harvin has now played one 16-game season in his four year career and that coincided with his only season posting WR1 fantasy numbers. He's one of the most talented players in the league headed to the best offense in the league. This should be all kinds of fun as long as Harvin stays happy and healthy.
(hide this) | |||
| 7 | Andre Johnson | HOU | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Johnson used a couple of monster performances to catapult himself to another top ten finish in 2012. He posted a career high in both targets and receptions, numbers that should both be affected by the presence of rookie DeAndre Hopkins. For someone that had missed 12 games over the previous two seasons, Johnson's 16 games last year were a bit of a surprise. At 32 years old I have a hard time seeing him match last year's numbers. I like Johnson's prospects as a WR1 much better in PPR where the inevitable affects of age are less likely to show their impact.
(hide this) | |||
| 8 | Wes Welker | DEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: It's pretty rare that a receiver can leave one of the most prolific offenses led by one of the best quarterbacks and actually find himslef in a better situation but that may have actually happened to Welker. I like the fact that in Denver Welker will have an outside threat in Demaryius Thomas but gets away from tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Welker should see a ton of targets on an offense that should move up and down the field. No defense in the AFC West has a secondary capable of stopping this attack.
(hide this) | |||
| 9 | Demaryius Thomas | DEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Demaryius Thomas is the WR1 in what should be one of the more prolific passing offenses in the league. The addition of Wes Welker does concern me just a little from a PPR perspective and I think you have to be cautious ranking Thomas too high in dynasty simply because of his quarterback's age. That being said he should be a safer bet to be a mid-level WR1 in 2013.
(hide this) | |||
| 10 | Larry Fitzgerald | ARI | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Carson Palmer is no Tom Brady, but he may look like it to Lary Fitzgerald. After years of dealing with terrible quarterback play Fitzgerald should bounce back in 2013. I don't believe he'll ever get back to the level he once was but I do think top ten production is possible.
(hide this) | |||
| 11 | Reggie Wayne | IND | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: The resurgence of Reggie Wayne with Andrew Luck under center was remarkably similar to what we saw two years ago with Steve Smith and Cam Newton. Unfortunately, like Smith did last year I expect we'll see Wayne take at least a small step back in 2013.
(hide this) | |||
| 12 | Victor Cruz | NYG | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Cruz came back to earth last year as most predicted he would, but for him that still meant nearly 1100 yards and double digit scores. He's a low WR1 or high WR2 in 2013 and his tranformation to more of a threat in the short passing game makes him a better target in PPR. His contract negotiations are something to keep an eye on, but maybe more important from a dynasty perspective. He's in a near perfect situation right now.
(hide this) | |||
| 13 | Roddy White | ATL | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: White is entering the twilight of his career and while he was still a a very productive receiver in 2012 the signs of decline were there. White saw his lowest number of targets and touchdowns since 2008 and fell below 100 receptions for the first time in three years. White's been a top ten receiver for five straight years, a streak that I see ending in 2013. He'll turn 32 to this season, and likely has a 2-3 years of WR2 production left in the tank.
(hide this) | |||
| 14 | Marques Colston | NO | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Colston had his best season since 2007 and there's no real threat on the roster to prevent him from seeing another 120+ targets in 2013. He's only finished outside the top 20 once in his seven year career. I'd say Colston is one of the safest WR2s out there.
(hide this) | |||
| 15 | Dwayne Bowe | KC | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Bowe's probably not going to live up to his own projections of leading the league in both receptions and touchdowns but he should be much better than he's been the past two seasons with Matt Cassel at quarterback. He;s a solid WR2 with WR1 upside.
(hide this) | |||
| 16 | Mike Wallace | MIA | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: I think if you believe that Ryan Tannehill has the arm to take advantage of Wallace's speed you have to rank Wallace as at least a top WR2. The secondaries in the AFC East are nothing special and Wallace is likely going to be the first and second option in that offense. Sure there's some risk betting on either Wallace or Tannehill, but you're also betting on a wide receiver that's finished in the top nine in two of the past three seasons. If this does click, Tannehilll to Wallace could be a train we all wished we'd jumped on.
(hide this) | |||
| 17 | Jordy Nelson | GB | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: After three years in the shadows Nelson burst onto the scene with 1200 yards and 15 TDs in 2011 to rank as the second best wide receiver in the league. Last year he struggled with injuries and barely finished as a mid-level WR3. I believe 2013 should be somewhere in the middle of those numbers if not a little closer to 2011.
(hide this) | |||
| 18 | Randall Cobb | GB | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Randall Cobb may be the new Percy Harvin which would be huge for the Packers especiall if Cobb can stay healthy. He was the 17th ranked receiver in 2012 and I see him as a solid WR2 in 2013. The fact that the Packers drafted two running backs may cut down on some of the action we see from Cobb out of the backfield but I would still suspect he'll be the second option in the passing game.
(hide this) | |||
| 19 | Vincent Jackson | TB | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Jackson started his career in Tampa Bay off with a bang but was not the same threat in the second half of the year. In the last ten games of the year Jackson had four games where he failed to score even six fantasy points and he only scored three touchdowns over that span. I believe that's because defenses really shifted their focus to Jackson after his monster start to the season and I expect that to continue in 2013. Jackson is a good receiver but he's not elite and Josh Freeman is not accurate enough to feed a receiver that's being double teamed.
(hide this) | |||
| 20 | Mike Williams | TB | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: If you're looking for the outlier of the Footballguys WR rankings, here it is. Maybe I'm too easily dismissing Williams' 2011 but I see a young, talented receiver that is entering a contract year on a really good, and improving, offense. If I had to bet on a receiver posting career numbers in 2013, Williams would be the one. As for the concerns about Vincent Jackson being the true #1 in Tampa Bay, Jackson got off to a very hot start but from week eight on, Williams was the Bucs top receiver in fantasy points. I see 1100 yards and double digit TDs in the 4th year receiver's future.
(hide this) | |||
| 21 | Hakeem Nicks | NYG | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Nicks' 2013 will be all about his health. If he's healthy he's one of the more consistent receiving options in the league. Victor Cruz limits his ceiling a little bit but I'd be thrilled with landing Nicks as my WR2.
(hide this) | |||
| 22 | Danny Amendola | NE | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Danny Amendola is not Wes Welker and he's only Danny Amendola when he's healthy. Amendola has played 12 games in the past two seasons combined and in his one full season (2010) he averaged only 8 yards per catch. His situation has certainly improved, and he'll have an opportunity at high WR2 numbers in PPR, but I doubt he gets there.
(hide this) | |||
| 23 | Jeremy Maclin | PHI | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Maclin has never lived up to his reputation but I think Chip Kelly's new offense gives him a big boost. He'll benefit from the number of play the Eagles run and from being a much more reliable possession receiver than his counterpart DeSean Jackson. Touchdowns are always questionable but I could definitely see him topping his career highs in receptions and yardage.
(hide this) | |||
| 24 | Torrey Smith | BAL | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Smith really didn't improve in his second year and posted nearly identical statistics. While that was disappointing I don't belive it precludes us from expecting a third-year breakout. There are conflicting views on the effect the absence of Anquan Boldin will have but I think it may force Smith to further develop his route running abilities. If he doesn't then we'll know from this point forward that he's nothing more than a burner that is best used in best ball formats. Of course, if he does make the transition he may turn into a low-level WR1. Assuming I already have a stud at WR1, Smith is exactly the kind of risk-reward receiver I'm looking for at WR2.
(hide this) | |||
| 25 | Steve Smith | CAR | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Steve Smith should be at the age where we start to see a noticeable difference in ability. I say should because it hasn't really happened yet. Smith is in excellent condition and is the unquestioned leader of the Panthers. I'm predicting a slight drop in production because it is the only thing that makes sense for a 34 year-old receiver.
(hide this) | |||
| 26 | Eric Decker | DEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: I do think Decker will be negatively impacted by the arrival of Wes Welker but I don't believe it completely strips him of fantasy relevance. Much like Demaryius Thomas, Decker's long term value is impacted by the likelihood hat he only has a couple of years left with Peyton Manning at the helm.
(hide this) | |||
| 27 | Antonio Brown | PIT | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: I have concerns over whether Brown can have the same success as the #1 option in the offense. With Mike Wallace gone and Heath Miller out for the start of the year Brown will have plenty of opportunity, but he'll receive a lot more attention from defenses as well.
(hide this) | |||
| 28 | Steve Johnson | BUF | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Johnson is a fine player I just do not like the situation in Buffalo. Ryan Fitzpatrick was no superstar but I'd take him over any quarterback on the roster in 2013.
(hide this) | |||
| 29 | DeSean Jackson | PHI | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: I'm not as high on Jackson as I am Jeremy Maclin because I think no matter what type of offense you run Jackson is going to be an all or nothing prospect. He won't likely ever match his 2009 or 2010 numbers and as a receiver who's greatest skill is speed his long term prospects aren't great either.
(hide this) | |||
| 30 | T.Y. Hilton | IND | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: T.Y. Hilton has an excellent opportunity to earn the #2 receiver job in Indianapolis and stake his claim as the heir apparent to Reggie Wayne. The addition of Darrius Heayward-Bey looks more like insurance to me as the job should be Hilton's to lose.
(hide this) | |||
| 31 | Greg Jennings | MIN | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Minnesota may have offered the most money but I do not like this fit at all for Jennings. Christian Ponder's only hope as an NFL quarterback is to dump the ball off to elite athletes like Percy Harvin or Adrian Peterson and let them pick up the yards for him. Jennings is still a fine receiver but he's no longer that type of athlete. He may fair better in PPR leagues because he should be heavily targeted but I wouldn't expect much in terms of yardage or touchdowns.
(hide this) | |||
| 32 | Miles Austin | DAL | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Austin's struggles with his hamstrings have by now been well documented but he still gutted it through 16 games in 2012. The Cowboys need him to be a viable third option behind Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. His risk of injury and lack of big play ability lower both his ceiling and his floor in 2013.
(hide this) | |||
| 33 | Pierre Garcon | WAS | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: It worries me that Garcon still doesn't consider himself 100% but he was pretty solid last year even on a bum wheel. He's the unquestioned #1 for one of the most exciting young quarterbacks in the league. His ceiling is low WR1, but he and Griffin will both have to be 100% to make that happen.
(hide this) | |||
| 34 | Anquan Boldin | SF | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: The injury to Michael Crabtree will likely help Boldin in the area of targets, but I'm not sure it helps much anywhere else. Boldin is a sure-handed target that never had blazing speed to begin with. At 33 years old it is hard to see Boldin getting much separation and it'll be interesting to see how confident Colin Kaepernick is trying to fit the ball into those small windows.
(hide this) | |||
| 35 | Tavon Austin | STL | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Tavon Austin steps into the role played by Danny Amendola in St. Louis, a role that could see Austin become a star. he's lightning fast, but there are serious questions about whether he's big enough to play in the NFL. He's a high upside pick that should be the top scoring rookie receiver in PPR formats.
(hide this) | |||
| 36 | James Jones | GB | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Jones will likely see a regression from his touchdown numbers in 2012 but should still be a big part of the Packers passing attack.
(hide this) | |||
| 37 | Denarius Moore | OAK | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Moore is entering the all important third year of his career and has done nothing but improve in his first two seasons. His production hinges on the play of Matt Flynn. If Flynn is able to match Carson Palmer's level of play Moore could develop into a high level WR2.
(hide this) | |||
| 38 | Brian Hartline | MIA | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: The addition of Mike Wallace and departure of Davonne Bess create an intriguing opportunity for Hartline. Wallace should stretch the defense providing an opening underneath for Hartline. My biggest concern is that the Dolphins offensive line doesn't give quarterback Ryan Tannehill enough time to connect with Wallace deep and by midseason all of the Dolphins passes are underneath.
(hide this) | |||
| 39 | Lance Moore | NO | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Moore had a career best 1041 yards in 2012 mostly because of a career best 16 yards per reception. That is 33% higher that he's ever averaged in his eight year career, so it's unlikely that he maintains it. Moore has played 16 games just once in the past four seasons and is likely only startable in PPR leagues as a low-end WR3.
(hide this) | |||
| 40 | DeAndre Hopkins | HOU | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Hopkins infuses some much needed youth and excitement into the Texans passing game. With Andre Johnson garnering all of the attention I expect Hopkins to be the top scoring rookie receiver in standard scoring leagues.
(hide this) | |||
| 41 | Sidney Rice | SEA | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: The addition of Percy Harvin could be huge for Rice, especially if Russell Wilson continues his development as a quarterback. Defenses will now have to focus first on the run and second on Harvin. This could create some excellent matchups downfield for Rice.
(hide this) | |||
| 42 | Kendall Wright | TEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Kendall Wright had a solid but inconsistent rookie season. In 2013 I see the Titans really focusing on running the ball and it's unclear when they pass who the targets are going to go to. Kenny Britt and Nate Washington are still viable options and the team just drafted Justin Hunter. I'm also not sold on Jake Locker being the answer in Tennessee.
(hide this) | |||
| 43 | Kenny Britt | TEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Kenny Britt is a wild card that you stash on the bench and hope turns into to something. It's easy to remember his magical start to 2011 (271 yards and 3 touchdowns) and think of what could be. The fact is that Britt topped 100 yards just once last year and has a checkered past on and off the field. Don't rely on him.
(hide this) | |||
| 44 | Cecil Shorts | JAX | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: A lot of people see the Justin Blackmon suspension as an opening for Cecil Shorts and I'm not sure I agree. Shorts was at his best last year after Blackmon had established himself. I think the additional attention Shorts will see early in the year will be more detrimental than the additional targets will be beneficial.
(hide this) | |||
| 45 | Malcom Floyd | SD | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Floyd badly missed Vincent Jackson in 2012 and verified that he's not WR1 material. Now he faces a struggle in camp just to keep his starting job. Floyd will be 32 when the season starts and has missed 11 games over the past three years.
(hide this) | |||
| 46 | Justin Blackmon | JAX | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Blackmon's lack of judgement once again reared its ugly head and this time it's cost him the first four games of the season. He's a special talent with off-field concerns and a terrible quarterback. Blackmon could absolutely be an asset for a late season playoff push.
(hide this) | |||
| 47 | Andre Roberts | ARI | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: In his third season out of The Citadel Roberts was quietly the top performing fantasy receiver in Arizona in 2012. While that's unlikely to carry over into 2013, it's also unlikely that the development of Michael Floyd diminishes all of Roberts' value. I expect Floyd and Fitzgerald to improve on their 2012 numbers while Roberts puts up slightly lower numbers.
(hide this) | |||
| 48 | Stephen Hill | NYJ | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Hill is the top deep threat in an offense that will struggle mightily to score. If you're a Hill owner I think you'd better be hoping that Geno Smith wins this battle.
(hide this) | |||
| 49 | Josh Gordon | CLE | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Gordon established himself a verifiable deep threat in 2012 and is currently the best receiver on the Browns roster. Unfortunately, projections for Gordon have to be made on a 14 game basis because he's been suspended for the first two games of 2013.
(hide this) | |||
| 50 | Brandon LaFell | CAR | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Cam Newton and the Panthers desperately need Brandon LaFell to take a step forward in 2013. LaFell had his most productive season to date in 2012, but needs to prove that he can stay healthy in 2013 and develop into a consistent option behind Steve Smith and Greg Olsen. If Lafell falters Domenik Hixon could be there to take his spot.
(hide this) | |||
| 51 | Greg Little | CLE | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Greg Little is never going to be what his body and abilities promised he might at the beginning of his career. That being said, Little was more consistent in the last four weeks of 2012 and could develop into a nice bye week replacement in PPR leagues.
(hide this) | |||
| 52 | Donnie Avery | KC | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Preliminary reports have Jonathan Baldwin starting opposite Dwayne Bowe, but if you followed the Chiefs last summer you know how much offseason hype Baldwin got then. Avery doesn't have the potential that we think Baldwin has, but Avery is a professional receiver and that's far more than what baldwin has looked like when he's gotten on the field.
(hide this) | |||
| 53 | Michael Floyd | ARI | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: There's a lot of buzz around an improved Michael Floyd. One thing's for certain, Floyd's situation improved with the addition of Carson Palmer. He finished the season very stong but I'm not sure I see a huge improvement coming in 2013. Palmer will do everything he can to get Larry Fitzgerald involved and that likely means that Floyd and Andre Roberts will be fighting for scraps. I'm not certain this offense can sustain two top 50 fantasy receivers, much less three.
(hide this) | |||
| 54 | Chris Givens | STL | |
| 55 | Santonio Holmes | NYJ | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Santonio Holmes has the most talent in the Jets' receving corps but he's struggled with injuries and doesn't seemed enthralled with the team. A healthy,focused Holmes would go a long way towards helping out whoever earns the starting quarterback job but I'm not betting on that.
(hide this) | |||
| 56 | Nate Washington | TEN | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Washington's roster spot may well depend on how ready Justin Hunter is to play at this level. After a career year in 2011, Washington slumped badly last year and reportedly found himself in the dog house at the end of the year. I doubt Hunter impresses enough for the Titans to feel comfortable cutting Washington but a serious decrease in targets should be expected.
(hide this) | |||
| 57 | Danario Alexander | SD | show |
[Jun 7th] Heath Cummings says: Over the last nine weeks of 2012 Alexander was the sixth best receiver in fantasy football. Of course, it was the first time in his NFL career that he's been able to string together nine straight games. Alexander has the ability to be one of the best receivers in the league but has legitimate injury concerns that aren't likely to go away for a 16 game season.

| 58 | Davone Bess | CLE | |
| 59 | Jeremy Kerley | NYJ | |
| 60 | Dexter McCluster | KC | |
