The Baltimore Ravens re-signed free-agent WR Gerrard Sheppard.
BAL - John Simon signs -
The Baltimore Ravens signed fourth-round pick LB John Simon to a four-year, $2.545 million deal.
BAL - Deonte Thompson has inside track -
Baltimore Ravens WR Deonte Thompson has the inside track to be the No. 2 receiver.
Footballguys view: The WR2 job opened up when the Ravens traded Anquan Boldin to the 49ers. Thompson has incredible speed and does a good job running underneath deep passes. He has good concentration and was a standout for the Ravens last year in camp before playing sparingly as a rookie in 2012.
BAL - Cody Larsen signed -
The Baltimore Ravens have signed undrafted free-agent DT Cody Larsen (Southern Utah). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
BAL - Rolando McClain wants to focus on personal issues -
Baltimore Ravens LB Rolando McClain decided to retire to was solely his decision, and he wants to focus on getting himself together before continuing his career, a source said. The Ravens have offered to be a resource for McClain.
Footballguys view: Good news for McClain here. He's had several off field incidents during his short pro career but now wants to get his life back on track. Here's hoping that McClain can do that and get on the path that's best for him.
BAL - Justin Tucker thinks he can be perfect in 2013 -
Baltimore Ravens PK Justin Tucker said he believes he has a chance to make all of his field goals and extra points this season. 'It's not unrealistic to say that I can have a perfect regular season kicking field goals and extra points,' Tucker said. 'It's just a matter of, no pun intended, putting in the leg work right now.' Tucker made 90.9 percent of his field goal attempts in 2012, which ranked sixth in the NFL.
BAL - Rolando McClain retiring from NFL -
Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome announced Ravens LB Rolando McClain, 23, has informed the team he is retiring. Baltimore has placed McClain on the Reserve/Retired list.
Footballguys view: Things change pretty quickly around here. Three years ago McClain was a top 10 pick in the first-round and people were talking about him like the next coming of Patrick Willis. Still only 23 years old we'll see if McClain can get his life back on track and get back on the football field.
BAL - Dayne Crist signs -
The Baltimore Ravens signed undrafted free-agent QB Dayne Crist (Kansas).
Footballguys view: Crist was originally at Notre Dame before he transferred to Kansas. He is your classic pocket passer but struggles with decision making and downfield accuracy. He's merely a camp arm behind Joe Flacco, Tyrod Taylor, and Caleb Hanie.
BAL - Ray Rice wants more action in passing game -
Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice, who has caught 311 passes for 2,713 yards in the last five years, wants to increase his role in the team's passing game this year. Rice caught 61 passes for 478 yards and one touchdown last season. Rice leads all running backs in the last five years with 91 catches and 863 yards on third downs. He set a franchise record for a running back with 78 receptions for 702 yards and a touchdown in 2009. Rice said that run-game coordinator Juan Castillo will make slight changes to the running game this season.
BAL - Cut Gerrard Shepard -
The Baltimore Ravens cut WR Gerrard Shepard Tuesday, May 14.
BAL - Marlon Brown signs -

BAL - Will make slight changes to the running game -
Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice said that run-game coordinator Juan Castillo will be making slight adjustments to the running game in 2013. 'I'm looking forward to executing a lot of different things that we've always talked about,' Rice said, 'and staying at a high level.'
BAL - Ray Rice in Ravens conditioning program -
Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice is participating in the team's offseason conditioning program, and is in terrific shape. 'I picked a specific area where this year, I actually ended the season and realized I was about 213, which I usually play at 212,' said Rice. 'I try to work on different things.' Rice worked out on his own in the 2012 offseason.
BAL - Ray Rice wants to become bigger receiving threat -
Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice wants to become a bigger receiving threat out of the backfield in 2013. 'Now that guys know that I'm a threat out of the backfield, I got to use my hands a little more,' Rice said. 'I get pushed a lot coming out of the backfield, and that's a sign of respect, but if I can get my hands and get out on pass routes and continue to get open for Joe Flacco.'
Footballguys view: Getting Rice more involved may be key for the Ravens in 2013. We saw them use him more (and Bernard Pierce) after Jim Caldwell took over as the OC after Cam Cameron was fired. They have major question marks in the WR corps behind Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones. Using Rice more as a receiver (along with more use of the TEs) could be in order.
BAL - Tandon Doss trying to make most of opportunity -
Baltimore Ravens WR Tandon Doss is a candidate for a much bigger role in the team's offense after WR Anquan Boldin was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason. Doss should compete for playing time behind WRs Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones and could become the No. 3 receiver. WRs LaQuan Williams, David Reed, Deonte Thompson and Aaron Mellette are the other receiving options that will compete in offseason workouts and training camp. Baltimore is open to signing a veteran wideout to compete in camp, as well.
Footballguys view: Doss is a deep threat who can fly down the field and track the ball. If Jacoby Jones wins the WR2 starting job opposite Torrey Smith then Doss could be considered the favorite to take over Jones' WR3 role.
BAL - Tori Gurley waived -
The Baltimore Ravens have waived WR Tori Gurley.
Footballguys view: Gurley was a player some were holding onto in super deep dynasty leagues. He was always an interesting player when he was with the Packers on their practice squad because of his size/speed combination. Green Bay released him in August of 2012 and he bounced around to four different teams (Vikings, Raiders, Buccaneers, Chargers) last season. The Ravens signed Gurley to a one-year $405,000 contract January 3, 2013. He may latch on with some other team as a camp body.
BAL - Dennis Pitta signs tender -
Baltimore Ravens restricted free-agent TE Dennis Pitta has signed his one-year tender offer and will make $2.023 million in 2013.
Footballguys view: A good deal for both sides here and it could open talks of a new long-term agreement. Pitta had a breakout season in 2012 and finished the season as the 7th best TE in fantasy football. He could have an even bigger season this year since WR Anquan Boldin was traded away to the 49ers.
BAL - Ray Rice thinks both FBs could stay on roster -
Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice said he believes FBs Vonta Leach and Kyle Juszczyk can be on the team at the same time because they play different styles. 'Me and [RB Bernard Pierce] are two different backs, him and Vonta are two different fullbacks,' Rice said. 'I'm sure if the cookie crumbles right, I'm sure we can make it work with everybody.'
Footballguys view: If both fullbacks stay on the roster then another running back may get bounced. Bernard Pierce is the primary backup behind Rice, but guys like Anthony Allen, Bobby Rainey, and Damien Berry could be on the roster bubble.
BAL - Could use two tight end set -
The Baltimore Ravens could use more two tight end sets in 2013 to help overcome the loss of WR Anquan Boldin. 'We've got some tight ends who can pick up the slack," assistant general manager Eric DeCosta siad. "Ed Dickson made some big plays last year in the Super Bowl, really played his best football in the playoffs. We're excited to see him become what we thought he was going to be. We really think this is his chance to become a really good tight end in the NFL. Obviously, we've got Dennis Pitta, we've got Torrey Smith. We've got playmakers. We're excited about what we can do on offense.'
Footballguys view: That move would make a lot of sense. Pitta and Dickson are both talented players who create mismatch problems for opposing defense. Dickson is the better athlete and can attack the defense vertically. Pitta has the better hands and is a good route runner across the middle of the field.
BAL - Two UDFAs signed -
The Baltimore Ravens have signed undrafted free-agent CB Moe Lee (Utah) and S Gary Walker (Idaho). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
BAL - A.Q. Shipley expected to compete for C job -
Baltimore Ravens C A.Q. Shipley is expected to compete with C Gino Gradkowski for the starting center job during offseason workouts and training camp.
BAL - Jeff Braun cut -
The Baltimore Ravens released G Jeff Braun.
Footballguys view: The Ravens had to make some room as they traded for C A.Q. Shipley today.
BAL - More on Bryant McKinnie -
Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens OT Bryant McKinnie received a $2 million signing bonus and $200,000 annual workout bonuses. He has $2.5 million and $4 million cap bonuses.
BAL - A.Q. Shipley acquired -
The Baltimore Ravens acquired C A.Q. Shipley from the Indianapolis Colts for an undisclosed package.
Footballguys view: Ozzie Newsome with another solid addition here. With Matt Birk retiring the Ravens had to add competition for 2012 fourth-round pick Gino Gradkowski. Shipley did a fine job blocking for Andrew Luck last year.
BAL - Ricky Wagner to have a versatile role -
Baltimore Ravens OG Ricky Wagner expects to have a versatile role with the team in 2013. 'Right now, I can play left tackle, right tackle, both guard spots,' said Wagner, who met with the Ravens at the Senior Bowl and during the NFL scouting combine. 'I'm going to be preparing for that this upcoming month to get ready for the season. The minicamp went pretty good. It was a great experience. I didn't know what to expect coming in here, but I thought we all improved.'
BAL - Bryant McKinnie official -
The Baltimore Ravens officially signed OT Bryant McKinnie to a two-year deal.
BAL - Make roster moves -
The Baltimore Ravens cut CB Jose Cheeseborough, RB Ray Holley, TE Murphy Holloway, DT Swanson Miller and QB Nathan Stanley Tuesday, May 7.
BAL - Looking to add a WR -
The Baltimore Ravens will continue to search for a wide receiver this offseason after trading WR Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers. 'I think the hunt goes on,' assistant general manager Eric DeCosta said. 'We're still working. The roster is not set. We're always evaluating. We're always looking at guys. Guys get signed, guys get cut ... Our pro personnel department looks at all available players and we'll make a decision at some point of what we want to do at that position. There are definitely some players out there. We'll consider all options.' The Ravens are also banking on increased production from several wide receivers, including WR Jacoby Jones.
Footballguys view: The Ravens need to fill the void somehow and have a few different options. Jones could see an increased role but has lapses in concentration and ball security issues sometimes. Tandon Doss and Tommy Streeter are players who could emerge this year but both are unproven at this point. We like Aaron Mellette, the team's seventh-round draft pick in 2013, but he's too raw coming out of Elon to be considered more than a developmental player at this time.
BAL - Rolando McClain pleads guilty to one charge -
Baltimore Ravens LB Rolando McClain has pleaded guilty to a window tint violation stemming from his arrest in January following a traffic stop. However, McClain still is currently due in court July 9 because of his most recent arrest on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The arrest, which occurred at a Decatur park after police responded to a disturbance, came April 21.
BAL - Tough to find competition for punter -
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said it would be tough for the team to find competition for P Sam Koch, and defended his veteran punter. 'There aren't too many guys that want to come here and kick or punt," Harbaugh said. "I don't think they see it as being a very fruitful opportunity. But we will find somebody to help us, somebody that wants a chance to kick or punt in the National Football League. I'd like a guy who could do both, if possible -- punt and kick. You'd love to have a lefty, so you can see how hard that is to come across. But, we will get the best guy we can."
BAL - Kelechi Osemele likely to stay at OG -
Baltimore Ravens OG Kelechi Osemele likely will start at left guard this season if OTs Bryant McKinnie and Michael Oher are the starting offensive tackles.
BAL - Expect Bryant McKinnie to attend conditioning program -
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he expects OT Bryant McKinnie to take part in the team's conditioning program this week.
Footballguys view: McKinnie's new contract with the Ravens may include workout bonuses because of his previous issues with controlling his weight.
BAL - Ray Holley to be released -
The Baltimore Ravens will release RB Ray Holley.
BAL - Coach says Matt Elam fast learner -
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said S Matt Elam did a good job learning the team's defense during the rookie minicamp. 'He's smart. He picked it up quickly. He jumped back there quickly and made the calls with force. He was very forceful back there and played fast. He looked good,' Harbaugh said.
Footballguys view: Elam is a 'seek and destroy' safety who relishes contact. He gets in the box and is a force against the run. Elam does struggle in coverage and needs to show better instincts.
BAL - Brandon Williams looking to make impact -
Baltimore Ravens DT Brandon Williams said he expects to make an immediate impact on defense this season. He is expected to compete with DT Terrence Cody for the starting nose tackle job.
BAL - Seven UDFAs signed -
The Baltimore Ravens have signed undrafted free-agent OG Jeff Braun (West Virginia), CB Jose Cheeseborough (Florida International), OT Jordan Devey (Memphis), WR Omarius Hines (Florida), DE Will Pericak (Colorado), QB Nathan Stanley (Southeast Louisiana) and OT Joe Unga (Midwestern State). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

BAL - Ricky Wagner contract update -

BAL - Kyle Juszczyk contract update -
Updating a previous report, the Baltimore Ravens signed FB Kyle Juszczyk to a four-year deal worth $2.46 million. The deal includes a $300,584 signing bonus.
BAL - Jacoby Jones may see less time at returner -
The Baltimore Ravens may reduce WR Jacoby Jones' time as a punt and kick returner if he is one of the team's starting wide receivers this season.
Footballguys view: The move makes sense for Jones. With the loss of Anquan Boldin (49ers) the Ravens will have to reconstruct a big part of their passing game. That plan could include Jones in the starting lineup.
BAL - Hire Steve Spagnuolo -
The Baltimore Ravens hired Steve Spagnuolo (Saints) to the position of Senior Defensive Assistant Friday, May 3.
Footballguys view: Another strong hire for the Ravens here. Spagnulo was a failure as head coach of the Rams but has a strong defensive mind. He'll be a quality assistant coach for the Ravens.
BAL - Lonyae Miller cut -
The Baltimore Ravens have released RB Lonyae Miller.
Footballguys view: Miller has failed to make a dent at the pro level. He's a speed back who needs to work in space to be effective. Miller could latch on with a team as a camp body in August.
