HOU - Randy Bullock fully recovered -
Houston Texans PK Randy Bullock (groin) said Wednesday, May 15, that he is fully recovered from a groin tear which cost him his rookie season. 'I feel great. I've been cleared. (I'm) working out and doing everything normal. It feels good,' Bullock said.
HOU - Make roster moves -
The Houston Texans have signed free-agent C Tyler Horn (Titans). Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived RB George Winn and OT Dann O'Neill.
Footballguys view: Winn is an all-purpose RB who should be able to latch on with another team. He lacks elite speed and too often tries to bounce runs outside. Winn is a backup caliber RB who may have to earn his keep on a practice squad.
HOU - Several expected to compete for No. 3 RB job -
Houston Texans RBs Deji Karim, Cierre Wood, Dennis Johnson and Ray Graham are expected to compete for the No. 3 running back job during offseason workouts and training camp.
Footballguys view: We like Graham in this race to be RB3. The PITT runner looked like he was back to full speed at the Shrine Game earlier this year. He's a natural runner who can make defenders miss in the open field. Wood is also an intriguing option because he's a versatile player.
HOU - Darryl Sharpton not cleared -
Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said LB Darryl Sharpton (hip) still has not been cleared to participate in offseason workouts because he still recovering from the hip injury that landed him on Injured Reserve last season.
HOU - Brooks Reed recovering from surgery -
Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said LB Brooks Reed (undisclosed) had surgery this offseason to repair an injury suffered during the season. He didn't say whether the surgery would keep Reed out of OTAs, which begin May 20.
Footballguys view: Reed did miss four games last year late in the season due to a groin injury. No word on what the procedure was for but it sounds like a minor procedure.
HOU - Sign Deji Karim -
The Houston Texans signed RB Deji Karim (Colts) Tuesday, May 14. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Karim runs with a low center of gravity and can change direction without losing much speed. He gives the Texans veteran depth behind Arian Foster and Ben Tate, plus he can help out on special teams.
HOU - Kubiak calls rookie WR Hopkins 'special' -
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak has been impressed with what he's seen from first-round pick WR DeAndre Hopkins (Clemson). "He's special," Kubiak said Sunday. "Ball skills are extremely special. Very long; long arms. Big hands; you saw the catch he made out here today. He's going to help us early, and we know that, and that's why we brought him here."
Footballguys view: We agree with Kubiak here. Hopkins reminds us of Reggie Wayne (Colts) because of his body control and ability to make difficult catches seem routine. The team finally has a legitimate threat opposite superstar Andre Johnson. We like him as a WR4 with upside in 2013. His current ADP is WR43 and he's coming off the board at the end of round nine.
HOU - Brennan Williams could win starting job -
Houston Texans OT Brennan Williams could win with the starting right tackle job because OT Derek Newton (knee) is still recovering from knee surgery.
HOU - Brennan Williams injured -
Houston Texans OT Brennan Williams (knee) injured his knee during practice Saturday, May 11. He underwent an MRI but it did not reveal any damage. Head coach Gary Kubiak said Williams will sit out practice Sunday, May 12, but will be able to participate in workouts next week.
HOU - Met with Lavelle Hawkins -
The Houston Texans met with New England Patriots WR Lavelle Hawkins last week, but he decided to sign with the Patriots.
Footballguys view: The Texans selected WR DeAndre Hopkins in the first-round of the 2013 NFL draft but they still have a need at the position. Hawkins is a decent pro and could have given the Texans veteran depth.
HOU - Collin Klein impresses -
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak was impressed with QB Collin Klein in the first day of minicamp. 'He's come a long way... A good step in the right direction this morning,' Kubiak said.
Footballguys view: Klein reminded many in the scouting community of Tim Tebow (free agent) because he's rough mechanically and better known for his rushing ability. At the Shrine Game earlier this year Klein failed to impress, still showing struggles with accuracy and pass placement. It sounds like his Texans debut got off to a better start.
HOU - Coach praises DeAndre Hopkins -
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak praised WR DeAndre Hopkins after his first practice with the team. "Impressed. Very impressed," Kubiak said. "Very competitive, that's number one."
Footballguys view: Hopkins is an impressive prospect who reminded some in the scouting community of Reggie Wayne (Colts) because of his sideline awareness, body control, and strong hands. He should start opposite Andre Johnson this year. His current ADP is WR44 and he's coming off the board at the beginning of round 10.
HOU - Sam Montgomery leaves practice early -
Houston Texans LB Sam Montgomery (back) left practice early Friday, May 10, because his back tightened up. Head coach Gary Kubiak said Montgomery will be fine.

HOU - Darryl Sharpton not taking part in workouts -

HOU - Concerned about Ed Reed -
Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said he is concerned about Ed Reed's (hip) recent hip surgery. "Anytime a guy's operated on, you're concerned, especially at this time of year," Phillips said. "If it'd have been right after the season, it'd have been different. So there's a little concern, but the good thing about (Reed), he's experienced it before. He's an experienced guy. You have no problem with him studying or knowing what you're doing. He's going to spend all the time it takes off the field to get ready. So I think Ed'll be ready when it's time."
Footballguys view: The procedure was considered minor and the team will monitor the veteran closely during his recovery. The Texans expect him back during training camp.
HOU - Arian Foster thankful team brought back Greg Jones -
Houston Texans RB Arian Foster said he is thankful the team brought back FB Greg Jones. "He's gonna help us out," Foster said.
Footballguys view: Jones is a force as a lead blocker and will blast open holes for Foster in the Texans ground game. He has almost zero fantasy value but is an important piece to what Houston does offensively. In 2011 Jones was a key reason why Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew was the NFL's leading rusher.
HOU - T.J. Yates looking forward to taking the next step -
Houston Texans QB T.J. Yates is looking forward to entering training camp and trying to take the next step. 'I'm looking forward to going into training camp, being able to take that next step,' Yates said.
Footballguys view: Yates is developing into a quality backup behind Matt Schaub. He's got the mobility and arm strength to keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. Yates may get a chance to start someday but perhaps would have to leave Houston in order to get that opportunity.
HOU - Brian Cushing injury update -
Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing (knee) is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. "I'm watching him today, he sure looks like he's ready to go," Kubiak said Monday. "I know that it's not time to turn him loose yet, but he's come a long way. What'd he miss, 11 games last year plus two playoff games? You don't get that time back in this league, so I know he's chomping at the bit and ready to go."
HOU - Ed Reed could miss some time during camp -
Houston Texans owner Bob McNair indicated FS Ed Reed (hip) could miss the beginning of training camp because of the hip surgery he had last week but should be ready by the middle of camp.
Footballguys view: Reed is a seasoned veteran and doesn't need every rep in camp. We're certain the team will take it easy on him while he recovers from this surgery.
HOU - Ed Reed undergoes surgery -
Houston Texans FS Ed Reed (hip) underwent surgery last week to repair a small tear in his hip. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Footballguys view: Reed is going to miss OTAs but the team expects him to be ready for training camp. A seasoned veteran like Reed doesn't need a ton of reps in the offseason.
HOU - Coach expects DeAndre Hopkins to play early -
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak expects WR DeAndre Hopkins to play very early in 2013. 'It's gonna be a very competitive situation but we took him there because we expect him to play very, very early,' Kubiak said.
Footballguys view: We wouldn't be surprised to see Hopkins step in and start from day one. He reminds many in the scouting community of Reggie Wayne (Colts) because of his crisp routes and strong hands. Hopkins is the perfect fit opposite Andre Johnson. Fantasy owners should consider Hopkins a WR4 or WR5 with upside in 2013.
HOU - Matt Schaub excited about the draft -
Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub is excited about the teams draft, and especially WR DeAndre Hopkins. "I'm very excited about all the picks," Schaub said on Monday at Reliant Stadium. "Obviously, being an offensive guy, to get a weapon like DeAndre early in the draft, very excited to get him here and work with him and bring him along because he can really help us and add a dimension to our offensive game. Some of the linemen we've taken and all the other guys on the defensive side can really help us. Very pleased with how Coach (Gary) Kubiak and (general manager) Rick (Smith) and all the guys upstairs handled the draft for us."
Footballguys view: Schaub should be excited about this draft. The Texans finally added a dangerous WR to start opposite Andre Johnson when they selected DeAndre Hopkins (Clemson) in round one.
HOU - Collin Klein will play QB -
John McClain, from the Houston Chronicle, reports undrafted rookie free agent Collin Klein will play QB for the Texans. Some had assumed Klein would be in for a position switch in the pros. His game is similar to that of free agent QB Tim Tebow.
Footballguys view: Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Klein up close from the sidelines of the Shrine Game practices earlier this year and was not impressed. Klein has a strong arm but has mechanical issues which leads to accuracy problems. He refused to work out with the tight ends at the Scouting Combine and is a big project as a passer.
HOU - Brennan Williams will get shot to win job -
Houston Texans OT Brennan Williams is expected to be one of the candidates for the starting right tackle job this season.
HOU - DeAndre Hopkins expected to start -
Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins is expected to start opposite WR Andre Johnson this season.
Footballguys view: Hopkins was a fantastic pick for the Texans in the first-round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He reminds many in the scouting community of Reggie Wayne (Colts) because of his crisp route running, body control, and strong hands. The team has been looking for a quality WR2 to start opposite superstar Andre Johnson and they have that with Hopkins. Fantasy owners should consider the rookie a WR4 with upside.
HOU - Several UDFAs added -
The Houston Texans agreed to terms with undrafted free agents CB Johnny Adams, CB A.J. Bouye, WR Marlon Brown, G Bryan Collins, WR Andy Cruse, LB Ja'Gared Davis, LB Evan Frierson, RB Dennis Johnson, S Orhian Johnson, G Alex Kupper, WR Alec Lemon, WR Uzoma Nwachukwu, OT Dann O'Neill, P Andre Shapiro, WR Michael X. Smith, S Jawanza Starling, LB Justin Tuggle and RB George Winn Sunday, April 28.
Footballguys view: The Texans added some quality players here. Nwachukwu and Lemon are both WRs to keep an eye on in super deep dynasty leagues. Johnson is a powerful runner who is a great fit in the zone blocking system. These players may begin their NFL careers on the practice squad but could develop in the future.
HOU - Two RBs added -
The Houston Texans signed undrafted free agent RBs Ray Graham (Pittsburgh) and Cierre Wood (Notre Dame) Saturday, April 27.
Footballguys view: The Texans also added two other draftable running backs - Dennis Johnson of Arkansas and George Winn of Cincinnati. With Ben Tate a free agent next year and Arian Foster coming out of similar modest UDFA roots, the one or two of these guys that stick will be worth owning in deep dynasty leagues.
HOU - Two UDFAs signed -
The Houston Texans signed undrafted free agents CB Travis Howard (Ohio State) and DE Earl Okine (Florida) Saturday, April 27.
HOU - Heisman finalist added -
The Houston Texans signed undrafted free agent QB Collin Klein (Kansas State) Saturday, April 27.
Footballguys view: Klein has no chance to make in the NFL as a quarterback, but the Texans could groom him as a special teams contributor. They had James Casey, a former wildcat quarterback at Rice, and never used him in that capacity, so it's difficult to imagine Klein playing that role for them.
HOU - Zach Boren brought in -
The Houston Texans signed undrafted free agent FB Zach Boren (Ohio State) Saturday, April 27.
HOU - Brooks Reed could move to ILB -
The Houston Texans may consider moving LB Brooks Reed to inside linebacker because the team added LBs Sam Montgomery and Trevardo Williams in the draft.
HOU - D.J. Swearinger selected 57th overall -
The Houston Texans selected South Carolina S D.J. Swearinger with the 57th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: The Texans' secondary fell apart last year. Swearinger, aside from having a name which seems to fit a Texan enforcer, will be an upgrade at the safety spot.
HOU - Will not look to take Tyrann Mathieu -
The Houston Texans will not consider selecting Louisiana State CB Tyrann Mathieu during the 2013 NFL Draft after he missed a scheduled meeting with them.
HOU - Tyrann Mathieu missed meeting -
Louisiana State CB Tyrann Mathieu missed a meeting with the Houston Texans earlier in the week because of an illness.
HOU - DeVier Posey to open season on PUP -
Houston Texans WR DeVier Posey (knee), who tore his left Achilles' in the playoffs last year, will open the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
HOU - DeAndre Hopkins selected 27th overall -
The Houston Texans selected Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins with the 27th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Andre Johnson wanted someone else to play receiver with him and he got his wish. Hopkins is a great route runner with good hands who will help Matt Schaub regain his form. How much opportunity he will have to put up yards behind Johnson and Arian Foster is a big question mark and will keep his value down early in his career.
HOU - Andre Johnson hopes to play a few more years -
Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson said he would like to play five more seasons before his career is over.
HOU - Andre Johnson hopes team adds WR in draft -
Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson said he hopes the team selects a wide receiver during the 2013 NFL Draft because the offense needs more weapons. Johnson said he would work closely with any rookie receiver the team beings in.
Footballguys view: The Texans need to add more weapons to the passing game opposite Johnson. They have young WRs like Lestar Jean and Keshwan Martin who will compete for a starting job. This WR draft class is elite and the Texans would be wise to add more talent at that position.
HOU - Don Jones visiting -
The Houston Texans are visiting with Arkansas State S Don Jones Tuesday, April 16.
HOU - Jakar Hamilton visiting -
The Houston Texans are visiting with South Carolina State S Jakar Hamilton Tuesday, April 16.

HOU - Re-sign Tim Dobbins -
The Houston Texans re-signed LB Tim Dobbins to a one-year contract Thursday, April 10. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Dobbins was forced into the starting lineup last year but we think he'll go back to being a reserve player in 2013. He gives the team quality depth at the position.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Mohamed Massaquoi said the Houston Texans offered a contract to him this offseason, but he decided to sign with the Jaguars.
