DAL - Tyron Smith dealing with family problems -
Dallas Cowboys OT Tyron Smith agreed to pay his parents in installments after signing a four-year, $12.5 million deal in 2011 after being drafted ninth overall in the first round. Smith's family harassed him for more financial gain after he helped them out, and physical threats lead Smith to file a protective order against his parents last summer to keep them from coming in contact with him. Smith's family, including his brother and sisters, continually demanded money from him and also took more than $1 million from him. 'There was money missing, but I just don't know where it went,' Smith said. 'There were times I would check my statements and it wouldn't make sense and I hadn't authorized it at all. I just felt betrayed and I was like, 'Who can I trust?''

Footballguys view: Hargrove was with the Packers last year (released in August) and had to sit out eight games due to the Saints 'bountygate' scandal. He is position versatile and able to line up inside at DT or outside at DE. Hargrove is no lock to make the roster but would give them solid veteran depth if he makes the team.
DAL - Decision on Doug Free may come soon -
The Dallas Cowboys may make decision on OT Doug Free's future with the team before they start their organized team activities next week. The team would have to pay him his $7 million salary if he got hurt during the workouts.
DAL - Tony Romo's role not changing -
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has downplayed the fact that owner Jerry Jones said QB Tony Romo will have a significantly larger role in the offense this season. 'It's really been similar to every quarterback situation that I've been involved in with every team that I've been involved in,' Garrett. 'In every place in this organization and in others, you're trying to get that kind of rapport between your starting quarterback and the coaching staff, and we've had it, and we'll continue to have that.'
Footballguys view: Garrett is trying to downplay the situation here but if Jones wants more Romo then Jones will eventually get just that. We'll be able to see if Romo has more control over the offense when the team gets to the regular season.
DAL - Jermey Parnell might start -
Dallas Cowboys OT Jermey Parnell could be called upon to start at right tackle if the team is not able to work out a renegotiation with OT Doug Free during the offseason. Parnell split time with Free during the last month of the 2012 season.

Hopefully he's positive and we're trying to work through it all. I don't want to speculate. We're working on getting it worked out with Free.'
DAL - Mackenzy Bernadeau uncertain for OTAs -
Dallas Cowboys OG Mackenzy Bernadeau (shoulder) said Wednesday, May 15, that it has yet to be determined whether or not he will participate in organized team activities (OTAs) after having offseason shoulder surgery. 'I'm not sure yet,' Bernadeau said. 'I'm just going to see how I feel. We don't want to have any setbacks. I might play it safe.'
DAL - Tony Romo to be more involved -
Dallas Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said that QB Tony Romo will have more involvement than any player since QB Troy Aikmen. Head coach Jason Garrett said it will be no more than any other veteran quarterback.
Footballguys view: Perhaps more freedom for Romo will increase his comfort as a passer. Fantasy owners can wait until the top of round eight to nab Romo as his current ADP is QB12.
DAL - B.J. Webb signs -
The Dallas Cowboys signed CB B.W. Webb, their fourth-round draft choice, to an undisclosed four-year deal Tuesday, May 14. The club has signed three of their seven draft picks from this year.
DAL - B.W. Webb stands out -
Dallas Cowboys fourth-round pick CB B.W. Webb is a player that stood out in mini-camp.
Footballguys view: The small school CB from William & Mary has plenty of experience (48 starts) and production (11 career INTs, and 30 passes defended). He's got the speed to get into the back pocket of receivers he's covering. Webb is a smaller corner and is likely to be a nickel defender at the pro level.
DAL - Joseph Randle signed -
The Dallas Cowboys have signed fifth-round draft choice RB Joseph Randle to a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Randle should win the primary backup job behind Demarco Murray this year. The rookie is going to miss all of the offseason training activities because of offseason thumb surgery. He should be ready to go by training camp. He's got quick initial burst, acceleration, and can contribute as a receiver out of the backfield. With Murray's injury history we could see Randle in the lineup at some point this year. Randle's current ADP is RB53 and he's coming off the board near the end of round 12.
DAL - Travis Frederick expects to be fine in shotgun -
Dallas Cowboys C Travis Frederick said he expects to be fine with shotgun snaps even though he did not perform them much while with the University of Wisconsin. | DAL - Three released, three signed - |

DAL - Tim Benford undergoes surgery -
Dallas Cowboys WR Tim Benford (knee) recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and will not be able to participate until training camp.
Footballguys view: Benford is an interesting prospect to watch in super deep dynasty leagues. However, after this surgery he'll be hard pressed to make the final roster. If he's healthy then perhaps Benford could spend a second year on the practice squad.
DAL - Coach thinks J.J. Wilcox not close to making impact -
Dallas Cowboys defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson said he does not think S J.J. Wilcox is close to making an impact on defense because he has only played safety for one season. 'You have that coupled with the fact that the league he played in. He jumped into this league with only one year at the job. Then, just the adjustment that all rookies have. He's got a lot to adjust to and learn,' Henderson said. Wilcox said he does not think his inexperience will be a factor and that he expects to compete for a starting job.
DAL - See improvement in Jermey Parnell -
Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said the team does believe OT Jermey Parnell has improved his play. 'When you say the next step, if that implies is he getting better, yes,' Jones said. 'I think he is getting better. I think his arrow so to speak is going up.' Jones said the ideal scenario would be to have Parnell and OT Doug Free on the team this season.
DAL - Would like Doug Free to stay -
Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones acknowledged the team is trying to renegotiate OT Doug Free's contract but said the team wants to keep Free. 'I'd like to keep him,' Jones said. 'We think that Doug Free can be an important part of the team. He's been here. We know him. We think that with what we're doing in other parts of our offense, certainly in the offensive line, that this will bode well for him. So we think he can really be an asset to us.'

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (thumb) said he expects to be ready for the start of training camp after undergoing thumb surgery earlier this offseason. He is expected to be limited during the team's rookie minicamp.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys need Randle to get and stay healthy. He's set to be the primary backup behind Demarco Murray. Durability has been a problem for Murray and the team needs a solid plan B.
DAL - Danny Coale hopes to participate this offseason -
Dallas Cowboys WR Danny Coale (knee) said he hopes to participate in offseason workouts later this month or in the team's minicamp in June.
Footballguys view: Coale needs to get healthy and compete for a backup job behind Dez Bryant and Miles Austin. He'll compete with guys like Cole Beasley, Dwayne Harris, and rookie Terrance Williams in camp.
DAL - Travis Frederick works at two positions -
Dallas Cowboys C Travis Frederick worked at center and guard during practice Friday, May 10. It is not known where Frederick will play this season but it appears like the team wants him to start.
DAL - Joseph Randle injury update -
Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (hand) will have a cast on his right hand for the next six weeks.
Footballguys view: Not the way Randle wanted to kick off his pro career. He should be fine by the start of training camp and most expect him to win the backup job behind Demarco Murray.
DAL - Tyron Smith looking to add some weight -
Dallas Cowboys OT Tyron Smith said he would like to add 10 pounds this offseason and play at 315 pounds during the season. 'I just want to be a better run-blocker and be stronger and more physical,' Smith said. 'There were times last year where I felt like I was too fast and I was a little off-balanced. I just basically want to add a little weight and stay there, be fast and strong at the same time.'
DAL - Joseph Randle dealing with injury -
Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (hand) is wearing a brace over his hand to protect a hand injury.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys want Randle to be the primary backup behind Demarco Murray. With Murray's durability concerns the team needs Randle to get and stay healthy too. Randle has good straight line speed and has the acceleration to get to top speed in a hurry.

DAL - Jason Hatcher says he is a role player -
Dallas Cowboys DL Jason Hatcher said he will be a role player in the Cowboys defense, and that there are no star players on the defense. "I'm a role guy --- there's no star players," he said Wednesday at a charity event at Rangers Ballpark. "Don't care if it's D-Ware or nobody --- we're all role guys. We're all going to do our role: get to the football."
DAL - Miles Austin working on hamstrings -
Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin made changes to his offseason workouts to try and prevent a recurrence of the hamstring injuries that have dogged him in recent years. 'I'm definitely strengthening my hamstrings a lot more than I have been, just doing a different routine, a couple of extra exercises on our leg days,' Austin said. 'I'm just running hard and trying to compete at a high level. That way, it doesn't shock your muscles when you actually do it for real.'
Footballguys view: Good news for Austin here. Durability is a major concern with him as he's been bothered by hamstring issues over the last few years. He could put up top 20 numbers if he was able to stay healthy for the entire season.
DAL - Sean Lee ready to go -
Dallas Cowboys LB Sean Lee (toe) said he's participating in OTAs and ready to go after a toe injury last season. He said he has some soreness after practice, but he's 100 percent.
Footballguys view: Getting Lee back on the field will be a boost for the Cowboys defense. Keeping him on the field should be the concern. Durability has been an issue for Lee since he entered the league in 2010.
DAL - No talks with Jason Hatcher -
Dallas Cowboys DT Jason Hatcher said he has not had contract extension talks with the team at this point. He is entering the final year of his contract and would like to stay with the team.
DAL - Miles Austin working on hamstrings -
Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin said he has done some extra things this offseason to help strengthen his hamstrings.
Footballguys view: Good news for Austin and his fantasy owners here. He's a fantastic talent when healthy but has struggled with durability during his entire pro career. Fantasy owners are a bit gun-shy about drafting Austin at this time. His current ADP is WR36 and he's coming off the board in the middle of round eight.
DAL - Asking Doug Free to take pay cut -
The Dallas Cowboys are asking OT Doug Free to take a substantial pay cut of more than $2 million.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Tackle market has dried up so Free may be willing to take a pay cut in order to stay with the Cowboys. He's due $7MM (plus an additional $3MM bonus) this year but could be staring at a salary reduction of $4MM or so.
