IND - Josh Chapman fully healthy - Fri May 17, 05:05 PM

Indianapolis Colts DT Josh Chapman (knee) said his knee is completely healthy and will be able to participate in organized team activities next week.

IND - RBs to be involved more in passing game - Wed May 15, 01:30 PM

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to use their running backs more out of the backfield as receivers under new offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton than they did in 2012 with Bruce Arians calling plays. RB Vick Ballard led all Colts rushers with just 17 catches a year ago.

Footballguys view: The Colts offense won't feature as much downfield passing as it did last year under Arians. The Hamilton offense is more controlled and based off underneath routes that move the chains in short chunks. That means a bigger opportunity for TEs like Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener. It also means more targets for RBs out of the backfield like Ballard.

IND - Vick Ballard favored as starting back - Wed May 15, 01:24 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Vick Ballard is expected to enter training camp as the team's No. 1 running back, but that doesn't mean RB Donald Brown will not also see playing time. Head coach Chuck Pagano sees Ballard as a player who gets stronger as the game wears on, while Brown is considered more of a home run hitter for the offense.

Footballguys view: Sounds like the Colts are going to use a RBBC featuring Ballard as the lead back and Brown as the change of pace back. Ballard's current ADP is RB28 and he's coming off the board near the end of round five.

IND - Luck took a pounding in 2012 - Thu May 9, 03:13 PM

Colts QB Andrew Luck was hit or under duress on 161 action plays in 2012. That's 33 more times than the next-closest quarterback (Josh Freeman - 128).

Footballguys view: Part of the reason why Luck was hit so often was the poor state of the Colts offensive line. They've made changes this offseason to help protect their franchise QB. Another reason Luck was under pressure so often was the design of the Bruce Arians offense. His scheme is built off deep routes which take time to develop. Luck will be able to get rid of the ball quicker this year under new OC (and former Stanford OC) Pep Hamilton.

IND - Two draft choices agree to terms - Thu May 9, 01:21 PM

The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to terms with third-round draft choice OG Hugh Thornton and seventh-round draft choice RB Kerwynn Williams on four-year deals. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Williams is a speedy change of pace back who can work as a receiver out of the backfield as well. He can help out on special teams as a return man because of his speed and elusiveness. Williams is surprisingly capable running between the tackles even though he's not a big back. Listed at 5'8" 195 pounds Williams is set to compete for a spot on the depth chart behind Vick Ballard.

IND - Andrew Luck more comfortable with offense - Thu May 9, 01:10 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck said he is very comfortable with the offense that offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is bringing to the team. 'I am 100 percent more comfortable,' Luck said. 'On this day last year, I was probably sitting in class. It is nice to be able to have the full offseason with the team. We have changed (offensive) coordinators, but I have had a great relationship with Pep Hamilton from before. To be around him and talk his style of offense has been great. It is just nice to be around the guys.'

Footballguys view: Luck played in Pep Hamilton's offense when both were at Stanford. It's a more controlled underneath passing game than what we saw last year under Bruce Arians. Luck should have no problem moving the ball down the field in this offense, his passes will just be closer to the line of scrimmage.

IND - Rookie Werner produces in bunches - Sun May 5, 05:02 PM

Half of Indianopolis Colts rookie DE Bjoern Werner's 13 sacks last year came in Florida State's first three games. Murray State, Savannah State, and Wake Forest were the opponents and the Seminoles won those by a combined 176-3.

Footballguys view: Werner led all FBS defenders in yards lost from sacks (117) in 2012. 12 of his 13 sacks were from a standard four-man rush. The Colts need pass rush help and it's why they took Werner in the first-round of the 2013 NFL draft.

IND - Nigel Malone signed - Thu May 2, 01:35 PM

The Indianapolis Colts have signed undrafted free-agent CB Nigel Malone (Kansas State). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

IND - Reggie Wayne wants another 1,000-yard season - Thu May 2, 10:37 AM

Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne said he is motivated by the thought of recording a 1,000-yard campaign as a 35-year-old in 2013. The 1,000-yard mark has been reached only 16 times by 12 players 35 years or older. Wayne will turn 35 in November. 'That's what fuels me, motivates me. Not everybody can do that,' Wayne said.

Footballguys view: Wayne didn't miss a beat last year. In fact, he finished with a career best 106 receptions and 1,355 receiving yards. The new Colts offense is ran by former Stanford OC Pep Hamilton who worked with QB Andrew Luck in college. This won't be a vertical passing offense like it was with former OC Bruce Arians. However, it will be a very efficient offense built around Luck's strengths. Surpassing 1,000 yards receiving shouldn't be a problem for Wayne in 2013.

More Jerry Hughes info

IND - Acquire Kelvin Sheppard - Mon Apr 29, 01:24 PM

The Indianapolis Colts have acquired LB Kelvin Sheppard from the Buffalo Bills for LB Jerry Hughes.

Footballguys view: A move that doesn't really excite here, and won't be a factor for fantasy owners who play in IDP leagues. Yes, Sheppard has started 24 games over the last two years but he struggles against the run and isn't a lock to win a starting job with his new team.

IND - Dan Moore brought in - Sat Apr 27, 10:46 PM

IND - Bjoern Werner selected 24th overall - Thu Apr 25, 10:48 PM

The Indianapolis Colts selected Florida State DE Bjoern Werner with the 24th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Indianapolis Colts have expressed an interest in Middle Tennessee S JaJuan Harley leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft.

IND - Andrew Luck looking forward to offense - Wed Apr 17, 03:24 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck said he is looking forward to playing in the offense that offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is bringing to the team. Luck said the Hamilton's offense will incorporate West Coast offensive tendencies with the offense they ran this season.

Footballguys view: Luck and Hamilton worked together at Stanford where Hamilton was the OC during Luck's final year in college. The offense won't stretch the field as vertically as the Bruce Arians' system. However, we should see fewer interceptions and a more efficient Luck in 2013.

IND - Will work out Jeff Heath - Wed Apr 17, 03:03 PM

The Indianapolis Colts are scheduled to work out Saginaw Valley State S Jeff Heath Friday, April 19.

IND - Margus Hunt visiting - Tue Apr 16, 09:51 AM

The Indianapolis Colts are hosting Southern Methodist University DE Margus Hunt Tuesday, April 16.

Footballguys view: Hunt is one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft class. He's an athletic freak at 6'8" and has the wingspan to bat down passes and kicks regularly. Hunt has good energy as an edge rusher and can get to the QB. As a run defender he needs work as he'll too often get upright, lose leverage, and get pushed out of the way.

IND - Josh McNary signed - Thu Apr 11, 02:33 PM

The Indianapolis Colts have signed undrafted free-agent LB Josh McNary (Army). Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team has also placed McNary on the Reserve/Military list because he will finish his active duty before joining the team.

IND - Met with DeAndre Hopkins at combine - Thu Apr 11, 02:20 PM

The Indianapolis Colts met with Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins at the NFL Scouting Combine but have not met with him since.

Footballguys view: Hopkins has to be in play at 24 simply because he could be a very good #2 until Reggie Wayne retires, and then he could be their #1 receiver. The team is more likely to bolster the defense, but Hopkins would be an excellent fit.

IND - Spencer Ware visits - Wed Apr 10, 05:07 PM

The Indianapolis Colts met with Louisiana State RB Spencer Ware Tuesday, April 9.

Footballguys view: Ware is a violent runner who loves contact. He's got good balance and can bounce runs to the outside if he needs to. Ware has good leg drive and makes his living as an tough nosed inside runner. Some in the scouting community compare him to former Cowboys/Bears RB Marion Barber.

Free-agent WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (Raiders) will visit with the Indianapolis Colts Monday, March 25.

Footballguys view: The Colts lost Donnie Avery in free agency and are looking for WR help. Heyward-Bey never consistently played up to his potential with the Raiders and should benefit from a change of scenery. He'd give the Colts size at the WR position they currently don't have.
