SF - Kyle Williams might be ready for camp -
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams (knee), who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in November, is likely to be ready for the start of training camp. Williams was the team's slot receiver until sustaining the injury.
Footballguys view: Williams will have to fight for a roster spot after the 49ers added another WR (Quinton Patton) in the 2013 NFL draft. Those two will battle with second-year WR A.J. Jenkins for playing time behind Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree.
SF - No. 3 WR job is wide open -
San Francisco 49ers WRs Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree are considered the unquestioned starters, but after that the depth chart battles are wide open. WR Mario Manningham (knee) will be trying to hold off challenges from WR A.J. Jenkins, rookie WR Quinton Patton and WR Kyle Williams (knee). WRs Ricardo Lockette, Chad Hall, Joseph Hastings, Marlon Moore, Chuck Jacobs and B.J. Daniels are also in the mix for roster spots, as the team is rather deep at the position.
Footballguys view: We're expecting the rookie Patton to win this job. He was ultra-productive in college and can fly down the field. Patton can take the top off the defense which will allow more room for underneath receivers like Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin.
SF - Could draft multiple WRs -
The San Francisco 49ers could consider selecting more than one wide receiver in the 2013 NFL Draft because WRs Anquan Boldin, Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams are entering the final year of their contracts.
SF - Kyle Williams could compete for No. 3 WR job -
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams (knee) could compete for the No. 3 wide receiver job during training camp. He could also be an option as a kick returner in 2013.
Footballguys view: If Williams is healthy then he'll compete with Mario Manningham for the WR3 job. Williams has good speed and is elusive in the open field.

SF - Three injured players expected to be ready for camp -
San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter (Achilles'), WR Kyle Williams (knee) and DE Justin Smith (triceps) are expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Footballguys view: Hunter should still be in the long term picture at running back for the 49ers despite his achilles injury. Once thought of as career death for running backs, Mikel Leshoure has bounced back from a torn achilles and should give Hunter's dynasty owners hope.

SF - Kyle Williams unlikely to open training camp -

SF - Kyle Williams placed on IR -
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams (knee) was placed on Injured Reserve with a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tuesday, Nov. 27.
Footballguys view: Williams was able to earn the 49ers WR4 spot, beating out 2012 first-round pick A.J. Jenkins for the job. Now with Williams out we'll see more from Jenkins. We're not expecting a lot from him in re-draft leagues.
SF - Kyle Williams suffers ACL tear -
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Week 12.
Footballguys view: This injury opens the door for 49ers first-round pick WR A.J. Jenkins. He hasn't been active this year, but should now be the team's fourth WR on the depth chart.
SF - Kyle Williams injury update -
Updating a previous item, the San Francisco 49ers fear WR Kyle Williams (knee) tore a knee ligament in the team's Week 12 game.
Footballguys view: Without Williams in the lineup we could see more from rookie RB LaMichael James as a return man and receiver out of the backfield. James also has the ability to line up in the slot if the 49ers want to use him that way.

SF - Jim Harbaugh defends Kyle Williams -
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh was not happy when a reporter asked about WR Kyle Williams being used as a punt returner in Week 1 in place of WR Ted Ginn Jr. (ankle). Williams struggled in that role during the NFC Championship Game last season. 'We don't, we don't ... why'd you bring that up?' Harbaugh asked. 'Why would we be taking about that? When is enough enough?' The reporter followed up by asking Harbaugh if he felt compelled to give Williams encouragement heading into Week 1, to which Harbaugh replied, 'I should ask you, why did you bring that up?. Why do you continue to ask that question? What is the reasoning?'
Footballguys view: Harbaugh can be a bit of a grouch with the media.
SF - Kyle Williams to return punts in Week 1 -
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams will be the team's punt returner in Week 1 as WR Ted Ginn Jr. (ankle) is unlikely to play.
SF - Randy Moss not No. 1 WR -
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said WR Randy Moss is currently not the team's No. 1 wide receiver; however, he is one of five players competing for the spot along with WRs Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham, Ted Ginn Jr., and Kyle Williams.
Footballguys view: All reports on Moss have been very positive this offseason. If he's back to being the Randy Moss of old he'll clearly be the team's best WR. We're unsure if a motivated Moss will help embolden QB Alex Smith.
SF - Kyle Williams trying to hold off competitors -
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams is expected to be the backup return man for the team behind WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee). However, rookie RB LaMichael James is also expected to see some time on punts and kickoffs during training camp, and CB Perrish Cox saw time on kickoff returns during offseason workouts. RB Kendall Hunter and CB Chris Culliver also might get a look on kickoff returns.
Footballguys view: Ginn could be expendable with Williams and James providing value in other ways that he hasn't been able to when the offensive is on the field. Williams had a great offseason and should make the team as long as they carry six receivers.
SF - WR Williams in danger of being cut? -
Matt Maiocco, from CSNBayArea.com, reports via Twitter that he believes WR Kyle Williams will face stiff competition for a roster spot.
Footballguys view: The 49ers have added multiple weapons to the WR corps this offseason. In free agency they added both Randy Moss and Mario Manningham. Then they surprised some by selecting WR A.J. Jenkins in the first-round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Williams mistake filled NFC Championship game certainly put his roster spot in danger.
SF - Randy Moss to fight for playing time -
San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss will have to fight with WRs Ted Ginn Jr., Kyle Williams and Brett Swain for playing time this year. WRs Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham and A.J. Jenkins will be ahead of Moss on the depth chart.
Footballguys view: Nothing is guaranteed for Moss, and he'll have to prove that he can play like the Randy Moss of old. In 2010 he bounced between three teams (Patriots, Vikings, Titans) and played poorly on his final stop in Tennessee. Moss is still big and fast, but needs to have more consistent effort if he wants to play up to his potential.

I feel like that made a difference and he coughed it up.'

SF - Kyle Williams may start in playoff game -
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams may start in the NFC Championship game because of the injury to WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee). Williams would also handle the punt-returning duties if Ginn sat out.

SF - Week 17 Inactives -
The San Francisco 49ers have declared TE Delanie Walker, DL Ian Williams, WR Kyle Williams, OT Mike Person, QB Scott Tolzien, CB Shawntae Spencer, WR Ted Ginn Jr. inactive for Week 17.
Footballguys view: The 49ers are down to three healthy wideouts, so expect nice days for Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis in the passing game.
SF - Kyle Williams not cleared -
Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams (concussion) has not been cleared to play at this point and is not expected to play Week 17. The team expects him to be ready for their first playoff game.
SF - Two WRs may not play Week 17 -
San Francisco 49ers WRs Ted Ginn Jr. (ankle) and Kyle Williams (concussion) could miss Week 17 because of injuries. The team has added WR Joseph Hastings to their roster in case one or both are not able to play.
Footballguys view: The 49ers could beat the Rams through the air if Alex Smith tosses the ball to himself. This team is bound for the postseason and may decide to rest both WRs.
SF - Six questionable -
San Francisco 49ers WR Ted Ginn Jr. (ankle), WR Kyle Williams (concussion), CB Chris Culliver (shoulder), FB Bruce Miller (knee), CB Carlos Rogers (knee) and LB Patrick Willis (hamstring) are questionable for Week 17. | SF - Three players miss practice - |

SF - Three do not practice -
San Francisco 49ers WR Ted Ginn Jr. (ankle), TE Delanie Walker (jaw) and WR Kyle Williams (concussion) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 28.
Footballguys view: The 49ers might be shorthanded at WR for the Rams game, so expect to see a lot of running plays. The team gets a first-round playoff bye if they win, so the passcatchers should be in good shape by the time they play their first playoff game.
SF - Two WRs considered questionable for Week 17 -
San Francisco 49ers WRs Ted Ginn Jr. (ankle) and Kyle Williams (concussion) are considered questionable for Week 17 because of their injuries.

It's NFL policy that a player who sustains concussion-like symptoms is not allowed to speak to the media after the game in which the injury occurs.
SF - Kyle Williams, Ted Ginn record multiple catches -

SF - Kyle Williams finds end zone again -
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams had two receptions for 66 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown, in Week 13 against the St. Louis Rams. Williams has scored twice in the past three games, sandwiched around a zero-catch performance in Week 12.
Footballguys view: Williams is a good player to add and watch in deep dynasty leagues as the 49ers have no clear long-term #2 WR.
SF - Michael Crabtree leads team in receiving in Week 12 -
San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree (foot) had team-highs with six receptions and 54 yards in the Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Fellow WR Braylon Edwards (knee) didn't fare as well, managing just one grab for five yards, and WR Kyle Williams was held without a catch.
Footballguys view: Crabtree has assumed the #1 WR role that the 49ers drafted him to fill. He should be considered a WR3 with upside when the 49ers have easier opponents than the Ravens.
SF - Kyle Williams scores second TD -
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams had five catches for 54 yards and a touchdown in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals. With two TDs, he actually leads all San Francisco WRs in scoring receptions.
Footballguys view: Williams just got on the radar in deep dynasty leagues. The 49ers don't air it out often enough for him to have redraft fantasy value, but he showed good enough game to be worth carrying through the offseason in deep leagues with Braylon Edwards possibly moving on in free agency.
SF - Five healthy WRs emerge from bye -

We'll have a better idea after today, tomorrow and see where we're at to assess the situation,' Harbaugh said. 'Josh was really coming into his own, catching his stride. I feel bad for him, feel bad for us. That's a tough loss for us.' The team will use WRs Ted Ginn Jr., Michael Crabtree and Kyle Williams in the receiving corps moving forward. TE Delanie Walker could also contribute.
