One reason the New York Jets may have worked out free-agent QB Kevin O'Connell (Chargers) is because there is a chance the team could trade QB Tim Tebow and make QB Greg McElroy the No. 2 quarterback. Head coach Rex Ryan already is on record as saying the wildcat offense, featuring Tebow, hasn't been as successful as he expected. There also have been rumblings that Tebow is frustrated by his smaller-than-anticipated role. He has played only 50 offensive snaps in six games, making more of an impact as a personal protector on the punt team than on offense. As a result, it has become quite clear that Ryan doesn't know how to use Tebow or never wanted him in the first place.

New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said the team will look at the available backup quarterbacks when free agency begins to see if they are interested in any of the quarterbacks. Tannenbaum said QB Greg McElroy and Kevin O'Connell will also be under consideration for the No. 2 quarterback job.
Footballguys view: McElroy is an interesting prospect to keep an eye on in dynasty leagues. He's got a little Matt Flynn to his game and is a smart QB who plays better under pressure.
