Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers have re-signed free-agent OL Khalif Mitchell to their practice squad.
Footballguys view: Mitchell played nose tackle at East Carolina, but switched to the offensive side of the ball when he was in the 49ers training camp earlier this year.

Footballguys view: Zeigler had a great camp for the second straight summer. He should be on the short list around the league if a team finds themselves short at wideout.

SF49ers.com reports the San Francisco 49ers have waived OT Jacob Bender, OT Alex Boone, WR Dobson Collins, DE Pannel Egboh, TE Joe Jon Finley, CB Eric Green, OG Kyle Howard, CB Terrail Lambert, FB Brit Miller, DT Khalif Mitchell, LB Jay Moore, TE Bear Pascoe, WR Maurice Price, FB William Rentmeester, LB Justin Roland, RB Kory Sheets, C Matt Spanos, OT Joe Toledo, LB Mark Washington and WR Dominique Zeigler.
Footballguys view: Zeigler was having a great camp and preseason, but it looks like it's back to the practice squad for him. The 49ers decided to keep Jason Hill and Michael Spurlock instead. Sheets was also drawing raves, but the team decided to only keep two true tailbacks in Frank Gore and Glen Coffee. Kory Sheets ran with authority this preseason, and has one of the best stiff arms in the game. He is a prime candidate for the 49ers practice squad as well.
