NYG - Eli Manning praises Rueben Randle - Thu Jun 6, 05:40 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning praised WR Rueben Randle. 'A lot of times that second year you have a better feel for what's going on, what his assignments are and the ins and outs of the offense,' Manning said as the Giants wrapped up OTAs. 'He's confident out there. He's got a great skill set. I think he's had a great spring. I think he's done a lot of good things, made a lot of plays for us and I think he can be a great playmaker for us this year.'

Footballguys view: Randle is a talented player with big upside. He's been getting more reps in minicamp because Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks are both missing voluntary workouts. Randle is competing with veteran Louis Murphy to be the team's WR3 in 2013.

NYG - Eli Manning talks about players missing OTAs - Thu Jun 6, 02:22 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said the workouts that took place early in the offseason at Duke University were not meant to be a substitution for work that can be done during OTAs, in reference to WRs Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz missing the team workouts. 'You got some work, but I was really hoping that would be a little starter course to the spring and not a substitute for what we're doing on the field right now,' Manning said Thursday, following the team's OTA. 'This is the stuff where you're getting to go against cornerbacks. You get to work your technique. You get to practice those things we're gonna do in the season.'

NYG - Rueben Randle knows extra reps are important - Fri May 31, 09:36 AM

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Rueben Randle said he knows how important the extra reps he is getting during organized team activities are because it gives him more time to work with QB Eli Manning and show the coaches what he can do. 'I'm a lot more confident in what I do,' he said. 'Going out there and making more plays, understanding the offense and more on the same page with Eli. And also, getting more trust from the coaches, and going out there and getting more reps so I can show my ability more.'

Footballguys view: Randle is working to beat out veteran Louis Murphy for the WR3 spot behind Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks. He's more athletically gifted than Murphy but lacks experience. These extra reps in practice are extremely important for a young player with upside like Randle.

NYG - Increased reps for other WRs - Wed May 22, 10:09 PM

New York Giants WRs Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks were missing at organized team activities Wednesday, May 22, over contract disputes, so QB Eli Manning was working with WRs Jerrel Jernigan, Louis Murphy and Rueben Randle during the session.

Footballguys view: It's good for the young WRs like Jernigan and Randle to get more experience catching passes from Manning. Murphy traveled with Manning to Duke University earlier this year to work out and catch passes.

NYG - Eli Manning hopes Victor Cruz attends OTA's - Mon May 13, 08:56 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he hopes WR Victor Cruz attends organized team activities next week. "We get into some real practices next week so hopefully as we get into those live going-against-the-defense practices he'll get back in so we can get back to work," Manning said.

Footballguys view: Cruz wants a new long-term deal and no progress has been made on that contract just yet. Giants co-owner John Mara recently said he's "pretty confident" the two sides will be able to come to an agreement.

NYG - Eli Manning talks about the Victor Cruz situation - Thu Apr 18, 02:39 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he is not going to try to get WR Victor Cruz to show up for offseason activities, and understands why Cruz is not there. NYG - Hakeem Nicks has been running - Mon Apr 15, 06:20 PM

New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (knee) said he has been running at full speed for a few weeks and is happy that he recently worked out with QB Eli Manning. 'I kept it simple because it was my first time running routes,' Nicks said. 'I wasn't about to go out there and --- it's still early right now. So my biggest thing is that I want my presence to be felt there with Eli. Because it is something that I do week-to-week. We're on the same page.'

Footballguys view: When Nicks is healthy he's a top 10 WR in this league. Injuries have been a concern for him in recent years and it's been slowing him down. If Nicks is fully healthy in 2013 we will see a bounce back year.

NYG - Eli Manning getting jump start - Wed Apr 10, 09:15 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is preparing for the 2013 season by working out this week at Duke University in North Carolina, and he is assuming he'll have his receiving corps intact. Manning has been working out with restricted free-agent WRs Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks (knee) and newcomer Louis Murphy. '(I'm) here with Coach Cutcliffe (to) have him work with my mechanics, get everything sharp and get everything prepared,' Manning said Wednesday, April 10. 'So when we start workouts next week, I am going there ready to go and improving and ready to get better.'

Footballguys view: It is interesting to hear that Murphy is joining them, and not second-year receiver Rueben Randle. Randle is still the player who could see a big leap in value next year if Victor Cruz leaves in free agency.

NYG - Eli Manning off help to sign Victor Cruz - Thu Mar 21, 12:06 AM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said Wednesday, March 20, that he would be willing to restructure his contract, which runs through 2015 and counts $21 million against the salary cap in 2013, if it helps to re-sign WR Victor Cruz. 'If the Giants want to work something out,' Manning said, 'I am always up for listening, figuring out what I can do to help the cause.'

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he has been joking with his agent, Tom Condon, who is also restricted free agent WR Victor Cruz's agent, telling him to get the deal done to ensure he stays with the Giants.

Footballguys view: He's joking but he's partly serious as well. Cruz is an important part of the passing game and the Giants can't afford to lose him.

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he recently spoke with WR Hakeem Nicks, who said he will be a full go and running for the start of the team's spring program.

Footballguys view: Nicks is one of the best WRs in the game today but durability has always been a concern for him. If he's healthy then we expect him to perform like a top 10 fantasy WR in 2013.

NYG - Should have rested Hakeem Nicks - Sat Jan 5, 11:17 AM

New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese said the injury to WR Hakeem Nicks (knee) really hurt the offense, particularly QB Eli Manning, this season, and the team may have been better off giving Nicks more rest. 'I think it starts (with) ... Hakeem Nicks has been one of the linchpins in our offense. He was banged up and I really think it took its toll on our offense and what we are trying to do,' Reese said. 'He was trying to fight through it. But in hindsight, I think if we had to think about it again, maybe we would have taken him out a little quicker than we did. But that is neither here or there at this point. But I do think it affected the quarterback's play some.'

NYG - Eli Manning sets career high - Sun Dec 30, 05:04 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning went 13-for-21 for 208 yards and a career-high five touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17.

Footballguys view: Manning took apart a crumbling Eagles secondary without Hakeem Nicks. He had an up and down season as usual, but the downs were bad enough to knock him from the ranks of fantasy QB1s going into 2013.

NYG - Missed practice time hurts Hakeem Nicks - Wed Dec 26, 07:06 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said WR Hakeem Nicks' lack of practice time this year has hurt the duo's productivity on game day. 'He's out there trying to do his best, so we just have to keep working, try to get on the same page. He missed most of training camp, all of the offseason, so you don't get that rep time. We don't get practice reps. He gets a few reps, he's not quite at full speed. The timing is off on a few things, and it can make it hard to be as effective as you need to be and be on the perfect timing that is required to be really successful.' Nicks had only three targets in Week 16 and didn't have a catch for the first time in his four-year career.

NYG - Need Eli Manning to bounce back - Wed Dec 26, 07:04 AM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has thrown for just 311 yards and one touchdown over his last two games. Manning has not thrown for 300 yards or more in a game in his last eight contests.

Footballguys view: Manning has struggled this year and some of that has to do with the health status of WR Hakeem Nicks. Usually Nicks plays through his foot problems, but this season a knee injury has held him back. He still plays most weeks but is clearly not the player he needs to be. Defenses are then able to key on WR Victor Cruz instead and frustrate Manning with pressure.

NYG - Timing off between QB and WR - Tue Dec 25, 09:38 AM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning and WR Hakeem Nicks are having timing issues because of the lack of practice reps due to Nicks' injury issues this year. "I love Hakeem and the way he competes,'' Manning said. "He's obviously dealing with a frustrating issue that's limiting him a little bit. He missed most of training camp, all of the off-season, so you don't get that rep time. We don't get practice reps. The timing is off on a few things and it can make it hard to be as effective as you need to be."

Footballguys view: Nicks is one of the toughest players in the league and has played through many injuries during his pro career. The knee problems he had this year certainly had a negative impact on his effectiveness in 2012.

NYG - Eli Manning struggles Week 15 - Sun Dec 16, 04:11 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning went 13-for-25 for 161 yards and two interceptions against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 15.

Footballguys view: Manning threw the two picks early, and the defense did him no favors. The game got out of hand quickly, and Manning seemed to take his foot off of the gas as the second half went on. If you happen to have survived his dud, Manning will get the Ravens on the road next week.

NYG - Eli Manning tosses four touchdowns - Mon Dec 10, 01:40 AM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 259 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 14 win against the New Orleans Saints. It was Manning's seventh-career four-TD game, tying him with Hall of Famer Y.A. Tittle for the franchise record in the category.

Footballguys view: Manning had plenty of throws that he would like back, including the pick six that opened the scoring in the game, but he spread the ball around and found open receivers all day against the leaky Saints secondary. He's a risky QB1, but he has three good-to-great weeks in a row heading into Atlanta next week.

NYG - Eli Manning says arm not tired - Mon Nov 12, 08:19 AM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said following Week 10 that his recent struggles are not due to arm fatigue. 'I don't think so,' Manning said. 'I feel like I'm making the throws, and I don't feel like it's tired ... If my arm were tired, I would tell the coaches, and we would shut down some throws or throw a little bit less. I don't feel like we're overthrowing, I feel like when I'm making throws, the ball is coming out well, so I don't see anything into it.' Head coach Tom Coughlin added there is nothing physically wrong with Manning.

NYG - Victor Cruz quiet in Week 10 - Mon Nov 12, 08:13 AM

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz had just three receptions for 26 yards in Week 10 against a Cincinnati Bengals defense designed to take him out of the game plan. The Bengals were ready for the team's short-passing game after playing the Denver Broncos and QB Peyton Manning in Week 9. The Giants appeared to attempt the same strategy but managed just 45 yards after the catch on QB Eli Manning's 29 completions. 'Everything was similar from last week's offense to this week's offense,' LB Rey Maualuga said. 'We knew that Victor Cruz was such a big part of their offense and is a great weapon. Most of our plays were based on doubling him and making sure where he aligned on every play. We wanted to execute him out of the game plan and then stop the run and I think we did a good job.' NYG - Eli Manning thinks offense can succeed in middle of field - Sat Nov 10, 01:54 PM

'Usually, that's kind of when the middle of the field should be open,' Manning said. 'And guys in the middle of the field should be open. NYG - Eli Manning battling tired arm? - Fri Nov 9, 09:50 PM

New York Giants QB Eli Manning (arm) has struggled in the past three games, and it might be due to a tired arm, according to NFL Films guru Greg Cosell. He and former NFL QB Ron Jaworski both reached the same conclusion independently, then received some confirmation from an outside source.

Footballguys view: Quarterbacks battle tired arms frequently. Manning already has a depressed fantasy value, so dealing him right now is not an option. His matchup vs. the Bengals this weekend is excellent, so you might still want to plug Manning in despite this news unless you have a top 6-8 option to play ahead of him.

NYG - Tom Coughlin wants more from Eli Manning - Mon Nov 5, 09:59 AM

'We've got to get him back on track,' Coughlin said. 'He's our guy, (and) we've got to get him back to the way he was playing a couple weeks ago and do it in a hurry.' Manning, however, feels he has been accurate with his passes. 'I feel like I'm throwing the ball accurately when I have opportunities to. I don't feel off rhythm, no,' Manning said. NYG - Eli Manning faces lots of pressure from opponents - Sat Oct 27, 11:19 AM

Since the start of the 2008 season, no quarterback in the NFL has faced five or more pass rushers on as many dropbacks as New York Giants QB Eli Manning, who's seen such pressure on 963 of them.
