IND - More on Matt Hasselbeck -
Updating previous reports, Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck signed a two-year, $8 million deal.
Footballguys view: Since they lost Drew Stanton in free agency to the Cardinals the Colts needed a solid veteran backup behind Andrew Luck. Hasselbeck is one of the best veteran backup QBs out there and the team wouldn't be out in the cold if he had to start a game or two.

TEN - Could look to sign Matt Hasselbeck to extension -
The Tennessee Titans could consider signing QB Matt Hasselbeck to a contract extension in order to reduce his $7.5 million salary cap hit for 2013.
Footballguys view: The Titans need a capable backup behind Jake Locker due to injury concerns. Hasselbeck has been a fine teammate and should be open to restructuring his deal in order to stay in Tennessee.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck willing to renegotiate contract -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck said he is willing to renegotiate his contract this summer to stay in Tennessee. "I would definitely be up for that, for sure," Hasselbeck said Wednesday about the possibility of renegotiating his deal. "I'm not in those conversations, but I'm aware of them. That topic came up maybe in September, October, November (of 2012), somewhere in there. I would be excited about the opportunity because it would be basically having the opportunity to stay. But again, there's so much that goes into those things. But from my perspective, yeah, absolutely."
Footballguys view: No surprise here. Hasselbeck is a seasoned veteran and gives the Titans great insurance behind Jake Locker.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck could be cut -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck will count $5.5 million against the salary cap, so he might be released with the team with a capable option in QB Jake Locker and many needs at other positions. If he is released, Hasselbeck might get a starting opportunity elsewhere.
Footballguys view: Hasselbeck gives the team nice veteran insurance behind Jake Locker. Paying him $5.5MM to be a backup isn't the best idea so we may see the two sides work to restructure his deal.
TEN - May look to restructure Matt Hasselbeck's deal -
The Tennessee Titans may ask QB Matt Hasselbeck to restructure his contract this offseason in order to create more salary cap space.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck accepts backup role -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck said he understands his role will be as a backup to QB Jake Locker if he returns to the team next season. 'I like our quarterback room a lot and if I'm here, I understand where we are in Jake's development and all that, so I guess, really, I'm OK with being a part of his maturing process if that's the role I have to play,' Hasselbeck said. 'What also goes with that role is stepping in if he can't go, so I knew all that coming in. Some guys might feel differently at the stage I am in my career or whatever. But the only thing that's important to me that goes with that is I want to be on a team that is good and that is heading in the right direction.'
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck to appeal fine -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck will appeal a $15,750 fine levied by the NFL for his horse-collar tackle in Week 9. Hasselbeck said there was nothing violent about the play.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck winless against Miami -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck is 0-2 in his career against the Miami Dolphins, the team's Week 10 opponent.
Footballguys view: No worries for the Titans here. Hasselbeck should go back to the bench if QB Jake Locker (shoulder) does not have any setbacks in practice this week.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck fined -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck has been fined $15,750 for a horse-collar tackle in Week 9.
TEN - Jake Locker to play in Week 10? -
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Tuesday, Nov. 6, that QB Jake Locker (shoulder) received good test results from his latest MRI, and there is a chance he could play in Week 10 against the Miami Dolphins. Munchak said the plan is for Locker to split reps with QB Matt Hasselbeck, who has started the past five games. 'If things keep progressing on Wednesday he'll share reps with Matt as we go in Wednesday and Thursday,' Munchak said.
TEN - Want to involve Jared Cook more -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck said he plans to involve TE Jared Cook in the offense more. Cook, who has 28 receptions for 373 yards this season, reportedly requested a trade earlier in the week, presumably disappointed over his lack of playing time. Cook played only 42 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 8, and he's played less than 50 percent of the snaps in six of the eight games so far this season. He's been targeted an average of five times per game. 'I know how I feel about him, and I know how coaches feel about him,' Hasselbeck said. 'He is a great player. If anything, I feel like I should throw him the ball more. He makes plays for us and I like him a lot. He is definitely a big part of what we are doing.'
Footballguys view: Squeaky wheels gets the grease. Reports earlier this week stated that Cook may have asked for a trade because of his lack of targets in the offense. If that's true we could see the Titans make a concentrated effort to get Cook more involved.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck wants to get TE more involved -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck admitted Wednesday, Oct. 31, that he wants to get TE Jared Cook more involved. 'I know how I feel about him, and I know how the coaches feel about him,' Hasselbeck said. 'He is a great player. If anything, I feel like I should throw him the ball more. He makes plays for us and I like him a lot. He is definitely a bit part of what we are doing.'
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck expected to start -
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said QB Matt Hasselbeck is expected to start Week 9.
Footballguys view: QB Jake Locker (shoulder) is not ready to return just yet and could be out until the Week 11 bye.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck has solid outing -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck went 22-for-29 for 236 yards and one touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8.
Footballguys view: Hasselbeck was his typical measured self, making accurate short and intermediate throws, but not stretching the defense. The Titans will probably stick with him against Chicago next week. If you're a Jake Locker over, be glad that he could dodge the tough defense.
TEN - Expected to be cautious with Jake Locker -
The Tennessee Titans are expected to be extra cautious with QB Jake Locker (shoulder) especially if QB Matt Hasselbeck continues to win.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Titans have been more careful with Locker this time around. He suffered a similar injury earlier in the year and was back in a week. Now they're going to make sure he's much closer to 100% healthy. Locker is the future of the team and there's no need to rush him back with a veteran like Hasselbeck running the show.
TEN - Jake Locker might continue to rest -
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (shoulder) might continue to receive rest for his shoulder injury, especially if the team continues to win with QB Matt Hasselbeck at the helm.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck expected to start Week 8 -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck is expected to be the Week 8 starter, as QB Jake Locker (shoulder) continues to deal with a shoulder issue.
Footballguys view: Locker is close to returning but not quite yet. Hasselbeck will get the start in week 8 against the Colts at home.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck to start -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck will start for the third straight week in Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills for the injured QB Jake Locker (shoulder).
Footballguys view: Locker needs more time for his shoulder to heal. The Titans will monitor his progress and get him back into the lineup as soon as possible.
TEN - Jake Locker could play -
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (shoulder) has been healing properly and could start throwing later this week, meaning he's not ruled out against the Buffalo Bills in Week 7. Head coach Mike Munchak said there is no quarterback controversy, and that Locker will start over QB Matt Hasselbeck when he's healthy enough.
TEN - Jake Locker out again -
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (shoulder) will miss the team's Week 6 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday, Oct. 11. QB Matt Hasselbeck will receive his second straight start.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck turning it over more frequently -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck completed 26 of his 43 passes for 200 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 5 loss against the Minnesota Vikings. Last season, Hasselbeck was picked off once in every 37 attempts. This season, he is averaging one INT every 16 throws.
TEN - Surgery likely for Jake Locker? -
Updating a previous item, Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck said he suffered a similar shoulder injury to QB Jake Locker (shoulder) earlier in his career and eventually had surgery. Hasselbeck added Locker's injury is worse than his.
Footballguys view: Nothing official yet but it seems surgery is an option for Locker. Hasslebeck will be the starter while Locker is out.
TEN - Jake Locker may need serious surgery -
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (shoulder) might miss multiple games after separating his non-throwing shoulder for the second time this year in Week 4. The team's medical staff popped his should back into place after the injury, and Locker may need season-ending surgery to fix the issue. Dr. Mike Pagnani said once a player has that sort of injury, it will keep recurring. 'Eventually, the pain will go away,' Pagnani said. 'The risk is, it's going to happen again and it's probably just a matter of time before it does. He is going to go out there and he is going to get hit wrong and it's going to pop out again. And he'll go through the same scenario where they pop it back in, and he's going to be real sore for a week or two until he ultimately gets it fixed.' Surgery seems inevitable at this point, and there would be a six-month recovery time.
Footballguys view: The Titans have yet to decide if Locker will undergo surgery or not. In the meantime veteran QB Matt Hasselbeck will take over as the starter this week against the Minnesota Vikings.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck expected to start Week 5 -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck is expected to start Week 5 because of the injury to QB Jake Locker (shoulder).
Footballguys view: Hasselbeck may be asked to start several weeks depending on the severity of the injury to Locker's shoulder. He's a solid veteran, but this would obviously negatively impact the Titans passing game.
TEN - No quarterback controversy -
Tennessee Titans head coach QB's Mike Munchak said there is not a quarterback controversy between Jake Locker and Matt Hasselbeck.
Footballguys view: Locker has a long leash and is in no danger of being benched. Hasselbeck did not play well this preseason and is more of a backup caliber QB at this point in his career.
TEN - Jake Locker likely to wear brace -
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (shoulder) will likely wear a brace on his separated left shoulder if he plays against the San Diego Chargers in Week 2. Locker may have to split repetitions with QB Matt Hasselbeck in practice Wednesday, Sept. 12. Locker threw for 229 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Week 1 versus the New England Patriots. 'If we still feel he can be productive, run around and do the things he needs to do to play the position, then we're going to be fine with him playing,' head coach Mike Munchak said. 'If for some reason he's not able to do those things, then we won't put him in a position that he shouldn't be in.'
Footballguys view: Locker is going to be facing a tough Chargers pass rush who had 3 sacks against Carson Palmer on Monday Night Football. If he's banged up again in the game we'll see veteran Matt Hasselbeck relieve Locker for the second week in a row.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck staying -
The Tennessee Titans have no intentions of trading backup QB Matt Hasselbeck. 'We want him here, we believe in him, he's a big part of this team,' head coach Mike Munchak said. 'Like everyone knows in this league you need two good quarterbacks, usually somehow during the year the quarterback does get bumped up, does miss a game and we feel we have a guy that comes in and we win right away with.'
Footballguys view: There's no need to get rid of Hasselbeck. He has been a mentor to second-year QB Jake Locker and can be a very valuable backup QB. At this point in his career it's all he's going to be. Rusty Smith will remain as their 3rd string QB.
TEN - QB starter to be decided Monday -
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Sunday, Aug. 19, that he will decide a starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 20, for the team's fourth preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals Thursday, Aug. 23. QB Matt Hasselbeck is expected to have the edge in the race over QB Jake Locker.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck considered leader for QB job -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck is considered the leader in the starting quarterback job after QB Jake Locker struggled during the second preseason game.
Footballguys view: This can change quickly if Locker outperforms Hasselbeck next week. Locker came into this weekend needing only to hold serve and maintain his previous level of play in camp and the preseason to clinch the job.
TEN - No timetable to QB announcement -
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said there is still time to decide whether QB Matt Hasselbeck or QB Jake Locker will be the starting quarterback and did not indicate when an announcement will be made. 'We have two more weeks to see plenty, so I guess when we feel we're at that point, we'll make our announcements when we feel the time is right,' Munchak said.
Footballguys view: There's no reason for the Titans to commit because Locker clearly offers more upside than Hasselbeck and he still has time to recover from his poor performance this weekend.
TEN - Jake Locker closing gap in QB competition -
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said QB Jake Locker is closing the gap in the starting quarterback competition with QB Matt Hasselbeck. Munchak indicated Locker could start the second preseason game Friday, Aug. 17.
Footballguys view: Locker looked much better than Hasselbeck in the preseason game against Seattle. The job is his eventually and Tennessee's coaching staff may just decide to hand over the reins to Locker in week one.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck get start in preseason game -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck will be the starter for the first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 11. Hasselbeck will take part in 10 to 15 plays then QB Jake Locker will play the rest of the first half.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck struggling with INTs -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck threw two interceptions in practice Wednesday, Aug. 8, pushing his training camp total to nine through the first 10 practices. Interceptions may be a concern for Hasselbeck. Since the start of the 2009 season, he has thrown 48 in 44 games.
Footballguys view: Hasselbeck's not the same player he used to be and the time for Jake Locker to take over is now. Even if Hasselbeck wins the starting job at the beginning of the regular season we think Locker will take over at some point his year.
TEN - Discussing who will start preseason games at QB -
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Wednesday, Aug. 8, that he will talk with his staff and then decision whether QB Matt Hasselbeck or Jake Locker will start the preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 11, against the Seattle Seahawks. Munchak indicated that the decision who starts the first two preseason games doesn't mean that is the team's starter for the regular season.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck working on pocket movement -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck said he has been working on moving around in the pocket in order to adapt to the team's offensive scheme. Hasselbeck spent time during the offseason on rolling out, running bootlegs and throwing on the move. 'We ran them a lot in Seattle, but the ones we ran were different,' Hasselbeck said. 'Different launch point, different mindset, different goal in mind. With this offense I tried to just work on that stuff. We didn't really have the opportunity to work on that stuff last year.'
Footballguys view: This new scheme actually favors Jake Locker over Hasselbeck. The two are competing for the starting job and the decision won't be made until the end of the year. We think Locker will see most of the snaps as the starter this season even if he's not the starter right at the beginning of the year. He's the QB of the future and looked good in limited playing time as a rookie in 2011.
TEN - Jake Locker favorite for QB job? -
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker is reportedly the favorite in the Tennessee Titans' quarterback competition with QB Matt Hasselbeck. Early reports indicate that Locker has played well at training camp. He will need to carry that performance into preseason games to secure the starting nod.
Footballguys view: Locker should be considered a strong fantasy backup with QB1 upside if he wins the job. He has great running ability and an aggressive attitude attacking defenses downfield. Offensive coordinator Chris Palmer having a full offseason to install his pass offense will only help.
TEN - Jake Locker the favorite -
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker appears to be the favorite to win the starting quarterback job over QB Matt Hasselbeck.
Footballguys view: Locker would immediately become a high upside fantasy backup quarterback, worthy of a spot in a QBBC. He should flourish in Chris Palmer's offense, and he has great running ability and a big play mentality.
TEN - Top two QBs split reps -
Tennessee Titans QBs Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker split reps during practice Saturday, July 28. Head coach Mike Munchak said the two quarterbacks will continue split carries until a starter is named.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck listed as starter for now -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck is listed as the starting quarterback on the team's first unofficial depth chart.
Footballguys view: This competition will play out through training camp, but Titans head coach Mike Munchak has already hinted the tough early season schedule will factor into his decision. Even if Hasselbeck is the starter at the beginning of the season we know that Locker is the QB of the future and could take over at some point during the regular season.
TEN - No leader in QB competition -
Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer said the team's quarterback competition between QBs Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker remains even heading into training camp. 'I am really proud of both quarterbacks. We are very pleased with both of them,' Palmer said. 'They're even. It is a competition right now. Coach Munchak has made that statement and when the time comes and everyone is comfortable with who the starting quarterback is, then Coach Munchak will announce it.'
Footballguys view: Munchak has already said the tough early season schedule will factor into the starting QB decision. We feel Hasselbeck could begin the season as the starter, but at some point this season we feel Locker will take over. Locker is the team's future and flashed big time ability in limited duty last year.
TEN - Jake Locker could win QB battle -
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker will have every opportunity to win the team's quarterback competition with QB Matt Hasselbeck. Although Hasselbeck reportedly is the favorite, head coach Mike Munchak wouldn't be setting it up as a competition for show. If Locker can prove to be accurate enough with his passing he's got a chance to start.
Footballguys view: It's Locker's job eventually, and he looked impressive last year when he filled in for an injured Hasselbeck. Munchak has already stated that the brutal early season schedule will also be a determining factor in who wins the job. Locker makes for a nice lottery ticket pick at QB, and could give you quality depth at backup QB in your fantasy league.
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck shrugs off bounty target -
A photograph of Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck when he was with the Seattle Seahawks was among the evidence in the New Orleans Saints' bounty program. Hasselbeck had heard his name was mentioned, but he brushed it aside. 'I don't know what to believe. I am not following it that closely,' Hasselbeck said. 'I think what I heard was the quarterback, the running back and the top wide receiver were the three names (on the bounty list for that game). Those are the names you would expect, I guess ... I have been going about my thing, and I really don't know what to say. I guess there's been a lot of 'he said, he said' in the situation.'
TEN - Matt Hasselbeck expected to win starting QB job -
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck is expected to beat out QB Jake Locker for the team's starting quarterback job this upcoming season. Reports of a true competition between the quarterbacks are exaggerated.
Footballguys view: Titans head coach Mike Munchak has already said the team's tough early season schedule will factor into the starting QB decision. Hasselbeck is the savvy veteran, but Locker is the future. While Hasselbeck may begin the year as the starter we feel the team could turn over the reins of the offense to Locker in the near future.
TEN - Schedule difficulty factors into QB decision -
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Wednesday, June 6, that the difficulty of the early schedule is at least a factor in the choice of starting quarterback between QBs Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker.
Footballguys view: This is a QB competition that could last throughout training camp. It's Locker's job eventually, but the team may decide to begin the season with Hasselbeck as they navigate through the hard part of their schedule. However, Locker may just win this job outright as he showed flashes of brilliance last year as a rookie when he filled in for an injured Hasselbeck.
