SD - Malcom Floyd done for season -
The San Diego Chargers placed WR Malcom Floyd (ankle) on the season-ending Injured Reserve list Tuesday, Dec. 18, due to the sprained ankle he suffered late in the Week 15 loss against the Carolina Panthers.
Footballguys view: Bad news for the Chargers here. Floyd was a favorite of QB Philip Rivers and led the team in receptions (56) and receiving yards (814) in 2012. Without him on the field we'll see more from Danario Alexander. It would help the Chargers immensely if guys like Eddie Royal and Robert Meachem started playing better.
SD - Malcom Floyd leaves early -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (ankle) left the Week 15 game against the Carolina Panthers early due to an ankle injury.
SD - No love for the WRs in Week 15 -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd had two grabs for a team-high 39 yards in the Week 15 game against the Carolina Panthers. The only other wide receiver to get onto the stat sheet was WR Micheal Spurlock, who had one catch for eight yards. The Chargers had 16 completions, with the wideouts posting three grabs, running backs accounting for eight catches and tight ends making up the remaining five catches.
Footballguys view: Alexander was a top 5 wide receiver since becoming a starter five weeks ago. If anyone had a way to see this goose egg coming, please let us know what the powerball numbers will be next week.
SD - Malcom Floyd doesn't do much -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd had four catches for 61 yards in the Week 13 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals.
SD - Uncomfortable with Robert Meachem? -
San Diego Chargers WR Robert Meachem did not appear on the stat sheet in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens. 'He's in it, but it comes down to what we're using in terms of personnel groups,' head coach Norv Turner said Monday, Nov. 26. 'We have a comfort level with (WR Malcom Floyd). Malcom plays all the positions. We've tried to get (WR Danario Alexander) going and he's made some plays for us. That's where we're at right now.'
Footballguys view: It's no surprise to us. Meachem was inconsistent in a better passing game when he was with the Saints and that wasn't going to change in San Diego. He's been surpassed by Danario Alexander who signed with the team about a month ago.
SD - Malcom Floyd accounts for only TD in Week 12 -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd posted four receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown in the Week 12 overtime loss against the Baltimore Ravens.
Footballguys view: Floyd has been consistently getting his 3-5 catches a game, occasionally for a big play or two downfield. He isn't an exciting player, but having solid depth like Floyd on your bench can be a lifesaver in the fantasy playoffs.
SD - Malcom Floyd takes over as Z receiver -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd has taken over as the team's 'Z' receiver. The 'Z' typically lines up on the same side as TE Antonio Gates, and Floyd was moved there in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to create mismatches and make opponents pick their poison. The position was previously manned by WR Robert Meachem. 'With Antonio and I lining up next to each other, we put a strain on whatever side we're on,' Floyd said.
Footballguys view: This should help Antonio Gates, who had two touchdowns the last time out against Denver.
SD - Malcom Floyd finds end zone -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd had a game-high six receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Footballguys view: Floyd left briefly with a jaw injury, but returned to have a solid game against a poor secondary. He is a decent WR3/Flex with a receiver who can take the top off of the defense on the side now.
SD - Malcom Floyd returns -
Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (jaw) has returned to the game after missing some time with a jaw injury.
SD - Malcom Floyd injured -

SD - Ronnie Brown leads team in receiving in Week 8 -
San Diego Chargers RB Ronnie Brown led the team in receiving in Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns, hauling in seven receptions for 85 yards. WR Malcom Floyd was the top wide receiver target with four grabs and 43 yards. No other wide receiver had a reception, although WR Robert Meachem did carry once for minus-6 yards.
SD - Malcom Floyd leads wideouts in Week 6 -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd had five receptions for 60 yards in the Week 6 game against the Denver Broncos Monday, Oct. 15, to lead the team's wide receivers in both categories. WR Robert Meachem followed up his impressive Week 5 performance with just three grabs for 30 yards, and WR Eddie Royal had two grabs for 22 yards.
Footballguys view: Floyd was blanketed by All Pro CB Champ Bailey for most of the night. On the few plays he wasn't covered by Bailey QB Philip Rivers hit him for big gains. Meachem continued to be inconsistent, and Royal failed to play big against his former team.
SD - Two WRs expected to play Week 6 -
San Diego Chargers WRs Malcom Floyd (groin) and Eddie Royal (hamstring) are expected to play Week 6. Both are listed as questionable for the game.
SD - Malcom Floyd questionable -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (groin) is listed as questionable for the Week 6 game Monday, Oct. 15, against the Denver Broncos, however he is expected to start. 'He got a little bit sore (Friday). We backed off. He was fine today,' head coach Norv Turner said.
Footballguys view: Floyd is still a solid WR3/Flex and adequate WR2 play this week against the Broncos, but the Chargers passing game will be hurt by Jared Gaither's likely absence.
SD - Malcom Floyd limited in practice -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (groin) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 12.
Footballguys view: Floyd has been brittle throughout his career, so it's not comforting to see him on the injury report. Break any tie against him while you set your lineup this week.
SD - Malcom Floyd hits century mark -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd had five receptions for 108 yards in the Week 5 game against the New Orleans Saints. It was Floyd's second 100-yard game of the season through five games. He hit the century mark four times last season.
SD - Malcom Floyd contract update -

SD - Malcom Floyd signs extension -
The San Diego Chargers signed WR Malcom Floyd to a three-year contract extension Wednesday, Sept. 26. Financial details were undisclosed.
Footballguys view: Philip Rivers favorite target gets a new deal to stay with the team. Floyd was set to become a free agent after this season. He's produced the biggest numbers for San Diego this year but may see his targets go down once Vincent Brown returns from his lower leg injury.
SD - Malcom Floyd leads team in receiving in loss -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd posted three catches for a team-high 52 yards in the Week 3 loss against the Atlanta Falcons. WR Robert Meachem checked in with four receptions for 43 yards, while WR Eddie Royal mustered only seven yards on two receptions.
SD - Malcom Floyd leads team in receiver in opener -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd had four receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders Monday, Sept. 10.
SD - Malcom Floyd expected to be No. 1 WR -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd is expected to enter training camp as the No. 1 receiver with WR Robert Meachem being the No. 2 receiver, but the designations likely will not matter since both will receive plenty of playing time.
Footballguys view: Either way we feel San Diego will have a tough time finding someone to fill the shoes of Vincent Jackson. Floyd has great chemistry with QB Philip Rivers and could perform like a WR3 with upside in 2012.
SD - Only four WRs under contract for 2012 -
San Diego Chargers WRs Vincent Brown, Malcom Floyd, Richard Goodman and Bryan Walters are the only wide receivers on the team's roster under contract for the 2012 season.
Footballguys view: Of those, only Brown and Floyd are viable targets at this point in their careers. The Chargers will be making some moves in free agency at wide receiver whether they involve Vincent Jackson or Jackson moves on.
SD - Malcom Floyd posts 127 yards, TD -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd managed seven receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown in Week 17 against the Oakland Raiders. It was an injury-plagued season for Floyd, as he was limited to 12 games (nine starts), but he still finished with a career-best 865 receiving yards. Floyd's had five TDs, giving him 11 scores over the past two seasons.
SD - Malcom Floyd posts 95 yards, TD -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd had six receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown in Week 16 against the Detroit Lions. Floyd has touchdowns in back-to-back games for the first time this season. He last accomplished the feat from Sept. 19-26, 2010, in Week 2 and 3 last season.
Footballguys view: Floyd has had trouble staying healthy this year (as he does every year), but he did finish with his best football. He is under contract with the team next year and should start regardless of what the team does with Vincent Jackson.
SD - Health of top three receivers helps Philip Rivers -
San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers has a 104.9 passer rating when he has had WRs Malcom Floyd, Vincent Jackson and TE Antonio Gates on the field and healthy for a majority of the game. When one or more has been missing, his passer rating is 23 points lower.
Footballguys view: The Lions secondary just gave up a big day to Darrius Heyward-Bey and Carson Palmer last week, so Philip Rivers and company should do well on Saturday.
SD - Malcom Floyd totals 96 yards, TD -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd posted a team-high five receptions for a game-best 96 yards and a score in Week 15 against the Baltimore Ravens. After managing just one touchdown through his first seven games, Floyd has found the end zone twice in the past three starts.
Footballguys view: Floyd got open with ease downfield and Philip Rivers found him all night. He should be a WR3/Flex play with a boom/bust profile against the Lions next week.
SD - Malcom Floyd does little in Week 14 -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd had two receptions for 29 yards in the Week 14 game against the Buffalo Bills. Floyd's production dropped off significantly after he posted 108 yards and a touchdown in Week 13.
SD - Malcom Floyd has career first -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd went over 100 yards for the second straight game for the first time in his seven-year NFL career in Week 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Floyd actually missed the past four games due to injury, but he had 107 yards in his last game in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
SD - Malcom Floyd back with a bang -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) returned to action in the Week 13 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Monday, Dec. 5, after missing the past four games. He finished with four receptions for 108 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown.
Footballguys view: Floyd was picking on the Jags ragtag secondary and he got behind them for one long ball to help break the game open. He should be considered an upside WR3/flex vs. the Bills next week.
SD - Malcom Floyd feels he has let teammates down -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) said Friday, Dec. 2, that he feels like has let his teammates down by being injured. "I think I add a little more firepower. That's why I'm more upset that I've been out," Floyd said. "I feel like I've let my teammates down a little bit. But you can't control injuries. I landed on my hip."
SD - Malcom Floyd probable -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) fully participated in practice Saturday, Dec. 3, and is listed as probable for Week 13.
Footballguys view: With Floyd back on the field it will mean fewer opportunities for rookie WR Vincent Brown.
SD - Four practice -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip), OG Tyronne Green (hand), LB Shaun Phillips (foot) and OG Louis Vasquez (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Dec. 2.
Footballguys view: Floyd will return on Monday and short-circuit any sleeper potential Vincent Brown had this week.
SD - Four practice -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip), OG Tyronne Green (hand), LB Shaun Phillips (foot) and OG Louis Vasquez (ankle) practiced in full Thursday, Dec. 1.
Footballguys view: Getting Floyd back on the field could negatively impact the fantasy value of rookie Vincent Brown.
SD - Malcom Floyd could play in Week 13 -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) returned to practice in a limited role Wednesday, Nov. 30, and might make his return in Week 13. 'For what he was asked to do today, I thought Malcom was all right,' head coach Norv Turner said. 'I'm anxious to see how he is tomorrow.'
Footballguys view: If Floyd does get back on the field then it will mean fewer targets for rookie Vincent Brown.
SD - Week 12 Inactives -
The San Diego Chargers have declared WR Bryan Walters, OG Louis Vasquez, DL Luis A. Castillo, WR Malcom Floyd, OT Marcus McNeill, CB Marcus Gilchrist, OG Tyronne Green inactive for Week 12.
Footballguys view: The Chargers line remains in piecemeal shape against the hottest pass rush duo in the league.
SD - Malcom Floyd targets Week 13 return -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) said Friday, Nov. 25, that he feels better, and he is targeting a Week 13 return. 'I'm feeling a lot better,' said Floyd. 'Hopefully, I'll be there next week.'
Footballguys view: Earlier this week, the Chargers would not commit to Floyd staying off of IR. We'll believe he's coming back when we see it.
SD - Three ruled out -
San Diego Chargers DL Luis A. Castillo (leg), WR Malcom Floyd (hip) and OT Marcus McNeill (neck) did not practice Friday, Nov. 25, and have been ruled out for Week 12.
Footballguys view: Vincent Brown will get the start for Floyd and be a good upside flex with the Broncos defense focusing on Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson. McNeill's absence will cause Philip Rivers problems against the best pass rush duo in the league right now.
SD - Malcom Floyd misses practice -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) did not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 24.
Footballguys view: Floyd may miss the game against the Broncos on Sunday. This would open up more opportunity for rookie Vincent Brown.
SD - Malcom Floyd to miss more time -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) is expected to miss another couple of weeks, according to head coach Norv Turner.
Footballguys view: Vincent Brown will retain at least enough value to be worth carrying, if not starting if he can get hot vs. the Bears this week.
SD - Norv Turner hopeful Malcom Floyd can avoid IR -
San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said Wednesday, Nov. 23, that he is hopeful the team will not have to place WR Malcom Floyd (hip) on the season-ending Injured Reserve list. 'Hopefully not,' Turner said. It sounds as if Turner is almost certain of missing the Week 12 contest.
Footballguys view: This is a sign that his hip injury is worse than the team has been letting on. Don't drop Vincent Brown just yet.
SD - Seven miss practice -
San Diego Chargers DL Luis A. Castillo (leg), WR Malcom Floyd (hip), CB Marcus Gilchrist (hamstring), OG Tyronne Green (hand), OT Marcus McNeill (neck), LB Shaun Phillips (foot) and OG Louis Vasquez (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 23.

SD - Four ruled out -
San Diego Chargers DL Luis A. Castillo (leg), WR Malcom Floyd (hip), OT Marcus McNeill (neck) and LB Shaun Phillips (foot) did not practice Friday, Nov. 18, and are ruled out for Week 11.
Footballguys view: Vincent Brown will replace Floyd and he is a good pickup this week, although McNeill's absence will give QB Philip Rivers less time to find Brown downfield.
SD - Malcom Floyd misses another practice -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) did not practice again Thursday, Nov. 17, and his status for Week 11 is uncertain. Head coach Norv Turner indicated earlier in the day that Floyd's status doesn't look good.
Footballguys view: Vincent Brown will start and he is at least worth a flex play.
SD - Malcom Floyd unlikely to play in Week 11 -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) has missed the last two games and did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 16. 'The fact that he didn't practice today would be an indicator that he wouldn't have a very good chance (of playing Sunday),' head coach Norv Turner said of Floyd's status for Week 11.
Footballguys view: This opens the door for rookie Vincent Brown again. We like Brown as a WR3 with upside this week against the Bears.
SD - Malcom Floyd misses practice -
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 16.
Footballguys view: Vincent Brown is very likely to get the start this week and he is a great upside play.
SD - Week 10 Inactives -
The San Diego Chargers have declared WR Bryan Walters, LB Darryl Gamble, OG Kris Dielman, WR Malcom Floyd, LB Shaun Phillips, SS Steve Gregory, DL Vaughn Martin inactive for Week 10.
Footballguys view: Rookie Vincent Brown will start in place of Floyd.
SD - Still holding out hope for Malcom Floyd -
Although San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) is listed as doubtful for Week 10 and has not practiced this week, head coach Norv Turner maintains Floyd could still play. 'I think you give the guy a chance, so you list him that way. He's got a chance, and we'll see where he is in the morning,' Turner said.

SD - Malcom Floyd doubtful -

Updating a previous item, San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (hip) will not play in Week 10.
Footballguys view: The door for rookie WR Vincent Brown is still open. We saw Brown catch 4 passes for 79 yards against the Packers and he could become a trusted target of QB Philip Rivers going forward.
