The Carolina Panthers released DL Lawrence Wilson Tuesday, Nov. 8, after he was cited for speeding and possession of marijuana during the team's bye week. The Panthers also activated CB Brandon Hogan (undisclosed) from the Physically Unable to Perform list, signed free-agent DL Thomas Keiser, LB Phillip Dillard and DL Jason Shirley, and released DL Ronald Fields. LB Thomas Williams (neck) was placed on the Injured Reserve with a neck injury.

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said he is pleased with the play of DL Ronald Fields, and he has replaced DL Andre Neblett as the team's third defensive tackle. 'He's playing very well,' Rivera said. 'As far as a starting position, I don't think we're ready to do that. I think Ronnie has been a good part of our rotation so we gave him opportunity last week and this week. He's helping those young guys. He's stout and physical and plays with his hands.'

Fields faces a misdemeanor charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon after witnesses flagged down police to say they saw Fields waving a gun while in a white Mercedes, according to a Houston police spokesman. An NFL spokesman said Monday, May 10, the league is aware of Fields' arrest but that league officials would have no further comment. Fields could be subject to punishment under the NFL's personal conduct policy.
