FootballReportersOnline.com reports Colt Brennan, the former Washington Redskins quarterback and a record-setting passer at the University of Hawaii, signed a contract with the Hartford Colonials for the 2011 United Football League season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Brennan never panned out for the Redskins but is continuing his football career in the UFL. Washington has John Beck on the roster and we're not convinced he's any better than Brennan.

Footballguys view: The Texans are looking for help at the wide receiver position and in the return game here. The two quarterbacks they worked out would be developmental prospects only if they sign.

WAS - Colt Brennan released - Mon Aug 2, 02:49 PM

The Washington Redskins have released QB Colt Brennan, reports Redskins.com.

Footballguys view: With the recent trade for John Beck this move doesn't come as a surprise. Beck should be the third-string QB in Washington behind Donovan McNabb and Rex Grossman.

WAS - Two expected to compete for No. 3 QB job - Tue Jul 6, 03:31 PM

Washington Redskins QB Richard Bartel and QB Colt Brennan expected to compete for the team's No. 3 quarterback job during training camp, according to CSNWashington.com's Rich Tandler.

Footballguys view: Bartel has bounced around during his NFL career, but there was a time that some in the scouting community thought he could develop into the next Tony Romo. Brennan has looked good at times during the preseason, but needs to work on his consistency as a quarterback if he wants to make the final roster.

WAS - QB Brennan seems more comfortable - Thu Jun 3, 01:32 PM

Rich Tandler, from CSNWashington.com, reports Colt Brennan seems to be much more comfortable in Mike and Kyle Shanahan's new offense than he was in Jim Zorn's. As it's unlikely that McNabb will see more than token playing time during the preseason, Brennan should get his chance to show if that comfort translates into consistent play against other teams. Given Grossman's familiarity with Kyle Shanahan's offense, it's unlikely that Brennan will move past him into the primary backup role, but he could make his case for 2011 and beyond.

Footballguys view: Colt Brennan is still developing his skill set after running a pass happy offense during his college career at Hawaii. We'll see if he can flourish under the Shanahan regime.

Updating previous reports, Ryan O'Halloran, of The Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins QB Colt Brennan (hip) actually has a torn left labrum in his hip, which is why he is going to go on Injured Reserve. Although he could potentially practice and play through it, they have decided to have him undergo surgery instead.

WAS - Brennan to be placed on IR - Sat Sep 5, 11:58 AM

Gary Fitzgerald and Larry Weisman, of Redskins.com, report the Washington Redskins plan to place QB Colt Brennan (hamstring) on Injured Reserve.

Footballguys view: The Redskins still have to decide whether or not to keep rookie QB Chase Daniel, who was battling with Brennan for the third QB spot. Brennan had been struggling earlier in the preseason, but bounced back with a strong performance in the finale against Jacksonville. He's been bothered by his hamstring during training camp, and injured it again in the 4th quarter against the Jags, and did not return to the game.

WAS - Brennan injured Thursday - Fri Sep 4, 12:48 AM

The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins QB Colt Brennan (hamstring) was 10-for-14 for 83 yards during the team's final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 3, but he was forced to leave early due to a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: The injury could put Brennan's roster spot in jeopardy, as Chase Daniel has surprisingly played well enough to merit consideration as the Redskins #3 QB.

WAS - Brennan struggles Thursday - Thu Aug 13, 11:18 PM

The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins QB Colt Brennan was 4-for-12 for 43 yards with an interception during the team's preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 13.

WAS - Brennan catching Zorn's eye in camp - Sun Aug 9, 09:06 PM

Eric Edholm, from Pro Football Weekly, reports the preseason will be a proving ground for third-string QB Colt Brennan, who has a chance to move up the pecking order at some point if he can prove to be consistent and controlled when he gets what is expected to be a good amount of action in the exhibition season. Already head coach Jim Zorn has noticed the difference between Brennan's rookie season and this year. "I think Colt has come a long way," Zorn said. "I think the way I get on him, he probably doesn't feel like he's come a long way, but I'm pushing him and he has come a long way."

Footballguys view: There are some who have speculated that Brennan could take the starting job away from Jason Campbell before the regular season, but that is a little far fetched at this time. Brennan could beat out Todd Collins for the second-string job and if he continues to impress the Redskins may feel that Brennan is their QB of the future. The 2010 QB class looks like it will be very impressive and the Redskins may be tempted to select a rookie QB next year unless Brennan blows them away.

WAS - Brennan believes he can start in the NFL - Mon Jul 6, 07:05 PM

Jake Luce, of Redskins.com, reports Washington Redskins QB Colt Brennan said he believes he can be a starting quarterback in the NFL and a good preseason will help him get closer to that role. 'I think if I can have another good preseason, it will put me in the driver's seat for people to continue to recognize me as a starting quarterback in the NFL one day,' Brennan said.

Footballguys view: Brennan has crucial physical limitations like lack of size and arm strength, but if he's put at the helm of a west coast offense, he could be passable. It doesn't look like Jason Campbell is going to be a Redskin in 2010, so Brennan is poised to be part of a QB competition unless the team makes a big splash via a trade or free agency.

WAS - Collins, Brennan competing for No. 2 job - Thu Jun 11, 12:07 PM

Matt Mosley, of ESPN.com, reports Washington Redskins QB Todd Collins and QB Colt Brennan are competing for the team's primary backup quarterback job.

Footballguys view: Collins is the 11-year veteran, and Brennan is the 2nd year QB from Hawaii. Brennan was a record setting QB in college, but looked unimpressive in his final bowl game against Georgia, fell ill during the Senior Bowl which caused him to lose 20 pounds, and thus slipped all the way to the 6th round in the 2008 NFL Draft. He looked good in the preseason last year and the Redskins feel like he's ready to compete for the backup job because Collins can't play forever.
