One of the things I've told you guys I want to do better with this year is help you get the most out of Twitter. We're featuring guys that you need to be following and in this one, we interview Josh Moore @4for4_Josh
We also want to help bring you more info on guys that are shaping our industry. Scott Atkins is one of those folks and you can see his interview here.
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) said he has been able to cut while running without restrictions but still needs to build strength in the knee. Peterson said his goal is to be able to participate in come drills during training camp.
Footballguys' view: Nothing but great news here for the Vikings. Even though he's showing superhuman like recovery skills we think the Vikings will take it easy on Peterson through training camp. It looks like he may be ready to play in week 1 of the regular season, but the team could choose to ease him back into the lineup. This could lead to an increased role for Toby Gerhart until Peterson is 100%.
Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson was a practice Wednesday, June 20, after being excused from practice Tuesday, June 19.
Footballguys' view: Yesterday's absence was no big deal according to head coach Mike Munchak. Johnson usually works out on his own during the offseason, but this year he's been working out at the team facility.
Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said the team has no interest in trading WR Percy Harvin.
Footballguys' view: Harvin has a mysterious problem with the team and he's been coy when talking about it to the media. Some feel the problem is not contract related, but nobody knows exactly what is making Harvin unhappy. The Vikings know Harvin is their best receiving weapon and will do everything in their power to keep him in Minnesota.
The Minnesota Vikings are wary about renegotiating WR Percy Harvin's contract because they do not believe Harvin can stay healthy.
Footballguys' view: Harvin has a dynamic skill set but has struggled with injuries and migraine headaches during his pro career. The mysterious problem Harvin has with the team may not be contract related.
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said RB Donald Brown is an every down back. The team could use Brown more in 2012. 'Donald is an every down back,' Pagano said. 'He is doing a tremendous job and he is having a fantastic offseason. He understands, especially on third down as far as protections go and all of those things. Nothing is going to be more important than protections.'
Footballguys' view: Brown is going to compete with second-year RB Delone Carter to be the Colts starting RB. We feel Brown wins that job but he may be replaced by Carter on short-yardage and goalline situations. The Colts just added veteran Mewelde Moore, and he could be a reliable third-down back.
There is a sense around the NFL that the New Orleans Saints will sign franchise free-agent QB Drew Brees to a contract just prior to the July 16 deadline.
Footballguys' view: We've been saying this since the beginning. The Saints will do some sort of 11th hour deal with Brees, and he'll be under contract before training camp begins. Expect the negotiations to really heat up once the calendar flips to July.
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck is expected to beat out QB Jake Locker for the team's starting quarterback job this upcoming season. Reports of a true competition between the quarterbacks are exaggerated.
Footballguys' view: Titans head coach Mike Munchak has already said the team's tough early season schedule will factor into the starting QB decision. Hasselbeck is the savvy veteran, but Locker is the future. While Hasselbeck may begin the year as the starter we feel the team could turn over the reins of the offense to Locker in the near future.
Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin acknowledged WR Chad Ochocinco needs to caught up on the team's playbook after signing late in the offseason. 'We teach our offense in nine segments, and he missed seven of them, and that's 78 percent that he missed, so he's behind a little bit,' Philbin said.
Footballguys' view: Ochocinco has been impressing teammates in minicamp, but needs a lot of work getting caught up in the offense. He struggled to learn the Patriots complex playbook, and could have the same problem with OC Mike Sherman's scheme. The Dolphins don't have much talent at WR so Ochocinco has an opportunity to produce at a higher level than he did last year. That being said we can't see Ochocinco as anything more than a WR4 or WR5 you can pick up in the late 12th round.
Arizona Cardinals WR Andre Roberts may be the favorite for the No. 2 wide receiver during training camp because the coaching staff are confident in his playing ability.
Footballguys' view: Roberts has developed into a better route runner during his pro career. He may be the favorite at this time, but will have to beat out talented rookie WR Michael Floyd for the team's WR2 job.
Miami Dolphins QBs David Garrard and Matt Moore have been splitting reps with the first-team offense during minicamp.
Footballguys' view: Rookie Ryan Tannehill is seen as the QB of the future and may take over as the starter some time this year. However, to begin the season we expect Moore to win the starting job.
New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) removed himself from a June 7 practice during organized team activities (OTAs) due to 'too many reps.' Head coach Rex Ryan later said Holmes suffered a hamstring injury in that final OTA practice. Wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal said he was in 'complete shock' over the attention given to the situation. 'Honestly, it was complete shock to me that this was being reported,' Lal said. 'Every day in practice, I make it a point to tell the receivers - because they run so much - you have to keep them healthy. There's no point in getting hurt in June.'
Footballguys' view: Everything players on the Jets do will be put under the microscope in New York City. Holmes has seen his fair share of negative press with the Jets, and is looking to prove himself (again) in 2012.
As expected, Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said he has no plans to renegotiate the current deal for RB Maurice Jones-Drew, and a lengthy holdout could be possible. Jones-Drew led the NFL in rushing in 2011, but is the eighth-highest paid running back in the NFL with a $7.63 million annual salary.
Footballguys' view: We could see this MJD holdout last well into training camp. With two years left on his contract we don't see the Jaguars handing him more money. His absence will open the door for backup Rashad Jennings to show what he can do. Jennings is talented enough to start for other teams, and could be a decent fantasy starter if MJD's holdout were to last into the regular season.
There has been no progress in talks between the Baltimore Ravens and QB Joe Flacco on a contract extension. The major hurdle has been the lack of salary cap space for the team, and the two sides are believed to be far apart on the financial side.
Footballguys' view: Flacco wants to be paid like a top 5 QB, but the Ravens haven't budged. A new deal for Ray Rice should come before any new deal for Flacco. There's a chance he plays out this season and Baltimore puts the Franchise Tag on him in 2013.
Arizona Cardinals TE Rob Housler is expected to receive a lot of playing time this season and could push for the starting job later in the season.
Footballguys' view: Housler is a talented move TE who has developed better concentration on underneath routes. He's currently behind Todd Heap and Jeff King on the Cardinals roster at this time. Deep dynasty league owners should take note of this news and grab Housler on the cheap.
The San Francisco 49ers have signed first-round draft choice WR A.J. Jenkins to a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys' view: Jenkins has not impressed so far in OTAs and minicamp. The first-round pick will have some time to develop as the 49ers WR4 in 2012. While in college Jenkins was ultra productive and showed fearlessness when running routes over the middle. We'll see if he can play up to his potential in a year or two.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have not talked with franchise free-agent PK Josh Scobee about a long-term contract for months.
Footballguys' view: Jaguars GM Gene Smith commented how he belived the team made a good offer to Scobee already. He does not expect Scobee to miss any games because of this contract situation.
The Carolina Panthers are not interested in signing free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Jets).
Footballguys' view: No surprise here. Burress recently commented on how he would love to play with QB Cam Newton, but it takes two sides to tango. The Panthers have up and coming WR Brandon LaFell to start opposite veteran Steve Smith.
That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and for letting us be a part of your fantasy football season. It's an honor. Have a great Thursday and we'll see you tomorrow with the update.
Peace,
J
