Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace was added for his speed and experience, but he comes to training camp looking to do more than that. Just lead more,' Wallace said Monday, July 27.Link to story

Vikings | AP to see goal-line touches? Mon Jul 27, 10:38 PM
The Minnesota Vikings plan to give RB Adrian Peterson a heavy workload heading into the season. 'As much as he can take, and as much as he can handle in all the things that we're doing,' head coach Mike Zimmer said Monday, July 27. 'Obviously, we're going to have to spell him at times like you do a lot of guys. But we get down on the goal line, and we're probably not pulling him out, you know? He's our best player, and we're going to continue to use him.'Link to story

Vikings | Matt Asiata out in goal-line situations? Mon Jul 27, 10:37 PM
Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata was a fantastic contributor in goal-line situations, but head coach Mike Zimmer indicated Monday, July 27, that RB Adrian Peterson will be leaned upon in the situations this season. 'Obviously, we're going to have to spell (Peterson) at times like you do a lot of guys. But we get down on the goal line, and we're probably not pulling him out, you know?,' Zimmer said.Link to story

Vikings | Inconsistency for Cordarrelle Patterson Mon Jul 27, 10:35 PM
Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson showed improved in organized team activities (OTAs), according to head coach Mike Zimmer, but the receiver has had consistency issues on the practice field which is holding him back. 'He'll have really good days, and then he'll have some not-so-good days. Really, I think what he needs to do is just the consistency every single day and the consistency in studying, the consistency in getting extra help that he needs if he needs it, running the routes the same all the time and understanding that there's a lot of great athletes that don't make it in professional sports because they don't have the other intangibles,' Zimmer said.Link to story

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater to continue ascent? Mon Jul 27, 10:33 PM
Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater is expected to continue to improve, according to head coach Mike Zimmer, who doesn't agree with the opinion of anonymous personnel guys for other teams who are expecting a step back in Year 2. 'I know this kid is a great competitor. The things that he did great in college (and) he did great in the NFL (last) year, were two-minute situations, when the competitive things were there. That's not going to change,' Zimmer said Monday, July 27.Link to story

NFL | Chris Cooley might delay comeback Mon Jul 27, 10:32 PM
Free-agent TE Chris Cooley (Redskins) is still considering a comeback, although he said Monday, July 27, in a radio interview that he does not anticipate a team signing him before the start of training camp. In addition, he is likely to join a contending team. 'It would probably have to be a team that realisitically has a chance of winning this year. Teams that don't have a chance of winning don't sign 33-year-old tight ends,' Cooley said.Link to story

Browns | Johnny Football enters camp as No. 2 Mon Jul 27, 10:31 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel enters training camp as the No. 2 quarterback, although head coach Mike Pettine offered no guarantees Monday, July 27, that QB Josh McCown will be the Week 1 starter. Steelers | Cameron Clear leaves practice Mon Jul 27, 07:52 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Cameron Clear (illness) left practice early Monday, July 27, because of a heat-related illness.
|Footballguys view: It's summer time, so expect teams to be incredibly careful with players hydration. Clear should be back in action soon.|
Steelers | Markus Wheaton has solid offseason Mon Jul 27, 07:02 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton is believed to have performed the best among the wide receivers during offseason workouts.
|Footballguys view: Keep this in mind when considering Wheaton--or even Martavis Bryant. We should see Bryant as the WR2 opposite Antonio Brown this year, but Wheaton might cut into his targets. Wheaton was an excellent route-runner coming out of college, and he could work well as the team's slot receiver. Wheaton's 12.73 air yards per target was tied with Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green for 20th-best in the league--12th best for receivers with 50 or more catches. Keep him on your waiver-wire speed dial.|

Jets | Austin Hill signed Mon Jul 27, 07:00 PM
Free-agent WR Austin Hill (Raiders) signed with the New York Jets Monday, July 27, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Hill went undrafted out of the University of Arizona earlier this year. A big target at 6'3" 212 pounds, Hill suffered a knee injury in 2013 that slowed him down last season. If healthy, he's got the size to work well in the red zone. Fantasy owners in super deep dynasty leagues should be watching him during the preseason.|
Bears | A.J. Cruz signed Mon Jul 27, 06:07 PM
Undrafted free-agent WR A.J. Cruz (Brown) signed with the Chicago Bears Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: Cruz was a kick returner/wide receiver/linebacker in the Arena League. With the Bears he'll compete to be a return man and reserve receiver.|
Rams | Cody Wichmann placed on PUP Mon Jul 27, 05:29 PM
St. Louis Rams OG Cody Wichmann (undisclosed) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 27.
Raiders | Sio Moore placed on PUP Mon Jul 27, 05:27 PM
Oakland Raiders LB Sio Moore (hip) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: Moore had hip surgery earlier this offseason, and the plan was for him to be ready at the start of training camp. This move affords the Raiders the option of putting him on the PUP list to start the regular season if his recovery is slowed even more.|
Saints | Junior Galette officially released Mon Jul 27, 05:25 PM
Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints LB Junior Galette was officially released Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: Galette was reportedly part of the chemistry problems the Saints had on defense last year. He led the team in sacks last year, but the off-field incidents proved to be the last straw. Galette suffered a severe pectoral injury at minicamp, and his status for Week 1 is unknown.|

Patriots | Brandon LaFell added to PUP list Mon Jul 27, 05:18 PM
New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (foot) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: LaFell was reportedly wearing a boot during offseason workouts, but he ditched the boot earlier this month. The Patriots could just be easing LaFell back into action. This designation means the team can activate him at any time during camp.|
Texans | Jadeveon Clowney placed on PUP Mon Jul 27, 05:07 PM
Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: This should come as no surprise. Clowney is reportedly walking without a limp, but he's still recovering from the microfracture surgery on his knee that ended his rookie season. His status for Week 1 is unknown, but it's possible he could miss the first six weeks of the regular season on the PUP list too.|

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder), OT Mike X. Adams (back), CB Senquez Golson (shoulder), DL Shawn Lemon (Achilles') and C Maurkice Pouncey (foot) were placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday, July 25.
|Footballguys view: Not a big deal here. Starting training camp on the PUP list means a player can be activated for practice anytime he's ready.|

Texans | Alan Bonner placed on NFI list Mon Jul 27, 05:02 PM
Houston Texans WR Alan Bonner (undisclosed) was placed on the Non-Football Injury list Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: A sixth-round pick in 2013, Bonner spent his rookie season on Injured Reserve due to a hamstring injury. Last year, a fractured foot caused him to miss another season. A leg injury forced Bonner to leave offseason workout earlier this year.|
Redskins | Mack Brown signs Mon Jul 27, 05:00 PM
Free-agent RB Mack Brown (Texans) signed with the Washington Redskins Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: Brown signed with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Florida earlier this year. He'll compete for a spot on Washington's practice squad, and he could make the final roster if he stands out on special teams.|
Saints | Add Kevin Brock Mon Jul 27, 04:59 PM
Free-agent TE Kevin Brock (Bengals) signed with the New Orleans Saints Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: The Saints were interested in another former Bengals tight end, Jermain Gresham, so the addition of Brock is not a surprise. Brock is mostly a blocking tight end, but he can also contribute on special teams. He's not much of a threat to the fantasy value of guys like Ben Watson or Josh Hill.|
Eagles | Matthew Tucker waived Mon Jul 27, 04:57 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Matthew Tucker (undisclosed) was waived from the Non-Football Injury list Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: Heading into his third NFL season, Tucker was facing a tough battle to make the final roster after the Eagles added incredible talent to the running back position this offseason. The nature and cause of this injury are unclear, but with the NFI designation it did not come on the team's watch.|
Dolphins | Nigel King waived Mon Jul 27, 04:56 PM
Miami Dolphins WR Nigel King was waived Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Kansas this year, King was a longshot to even make the practice squad. The Dolphins have a deep and talented group of wide receivers, and King couldn't do enough to make a lasting impression in offseason workouts.|
Buccaneers | Sign Da'Quan Bowers Mon Jul 27, 04:51 PM
Free-agent DE Da'Quan Bowers (Buccaneers) signed an undisclosed deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday, July 27.
|Footballguys view: The Buccaneers decided they needed better depth on the defensive line, and that's why Bowers was brought back. He sat on the open market with little to no interest since March. A second-round pick of the Bucs in 2011, Bowers has only seven sacks through four disappointing seasons. We'll see if he can win a reserve spot on the roster in 2015.|

NFL | Chris Johnson ready to play again Mon Jul 27, 04:12 PM
Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) said he's feeling explosive, healthy and is ready to play again.
|Footballguys view: Johnson may be ready to play now, but will there be a team willing to sign him at this point in his career? Many people are trying to make a connection to the Dallas Cowboys, but they seem content with the backs they already have in place. It might take injuries at the position to open a spot for Johnson.|

Seahawks | Russell Wilson's contract being negotiated Mon Jul 27, 03:44 PM
Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and his representatives have issues with the guaranteed money involved in his current offer. Still, Wilson hasn't turned the deal down yet. If both sides don't agree to a new deal soon, Wilson and the Seahawks will have to wait until after the season to try to get a deal done.
|Footballguys view: If things reach that point, expect the Seahawks to use the franchise tag on Wilson. They've built a Super Bowl contender with Wilson making peanuts. Now, they'll have to pay what he's worth. We can't imagine Wilson going to another team in the near future.|

Vikings | Adrian Peterson thinks he can play a while Mon Jul 27, 03:27 PM
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he believes he can play in the NFL at a high level until he's 36 or 37 years old.
|Footballguys view: If anyone could do it, it's Adrian Peterson. Coming back from a missed season at 30-years old, Peterson could easily rush for 1,500 yards or more in 2015. They could use him quite a bit as a receiver out of the backfield this year, and Peterson should be a top-5 running back in every fantasy draft out there.|
Adrian Peterson player page
Panthers | Jonathan Martin retiring Mon Jul 27, 02:54 PM
Carolina Panthers OT Jonathan Martin (back) has chosen to retire. Martin will need surgery on his injured back.
|Footballguys view: Martin was at the center of the bullying scandal when he was with the Dolphins, but he played for the 49ers last year. The Panthers had picked him up earlier this year, and Martin played mostly as a backup at left tackle behind Michael Oher in offseason workouts. Martin chose to retire rather than undergo back surgery that would have likely caused him to miss the entire 2015 season.|
Browns | Duke Johnson can perform immediately Mon Jul 27, 02:45 PM
Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson has the ability to step in and perform at a high level right away, according to head coach Mike Pettine.
|Footballguys view: Running backs can transition to the pro game a lot quicker than other positions. Johnson is a fantastic receiver out of the backfield, and he's a dangerous weapon in open space. We should see Isaiah Crowell as the hammer for the Browns with Johnson working as a change-of-pace back. His current ADP is RB39 (8.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.|
Duke Johnson player page
Broncos | Shane Ray ready for camp Mon Jul 27, 02:29 PM
Denver Broncos LB Shane Ray (foot) said his foot is 100% and he will be ready to fully participate in training camp.
|Footballguys view: Ray has the potential to eventually be one of the best pass-rushers in the league. This season, Ray should work as a part-time player who can rotate in at linebacker to keep Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware fresh.|
Shane Ray player page
Vikings | Adrian Peterson has lofty goal Mon Jul 27, 02:23 PM
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson wants to rush for 2,500 yards this season.
|Footballguys view: We're not doubting Adrian Peterson. He takes incredible care of his body, and he's already reached 2,000 yards in a single season before. In a Norv Turner offense, Peterson should be used early and often as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. While he may not reach 2,500 rushing yards, we could see Peterson eclipsing 1,500 yards in 2015.|

Patriots | Tom Brady's case may be settled Mon Jul 27, 01:58 PM
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's appeal of his four-game suspension still has not been announced, and the NFL is now open to talking with the NFL Players Association about a possible settlement in the case, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: Brady is not expected to accept any suspension in a settlement with the NFL but is willing to accept a fine. If any suspension stands, then expect legal action from Brady's camp. Hopefully, we get an answer (and an end) to this soon.|

Buccaneers | Doug Martin expected to bounce back Mon Jul 27, 11:54 AM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin could be in line for a big, bounce-back year, in the opinion of beat writer Roy Cummings.
|Footballguys view: Martin's breakout rookie season of 2012 is a distant memory. Over the past two seasons, injuries and ineffectiveness have plagued his performance. We'll be watching Martin closely in the preseason to see if that upside is back. At this time, fantasy owners should consider Martin a risky RB3 to add. Charles Sims has been getting a lot of hype this offseason, and he could take over as the starter if Martin struggles early.|

Jaguars | Game slowing for Blake Bortles Mon Jul 27, 11:43 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said the difference is 'night and day' in his readiness between this year and last. He said his head is no longer spinning at the game's pace.
|Footballguys view: That's a good sign for the second-year quarterback. We like the weapons around him at the wide receiver position like Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns. Adding a star tight end like Julius Thomas in free agency is also a boost. The Jaguars need to do a better job of protecting Bortles as he was the most sacked QB in the league last year. He's a QB3 worth stashing in dynasty leagues.|
Blake Bortles player page
Chargers | Denzel Perryman missed time Mon Jul 27, 10:46 AM
San Diego Chargers LB Denzel Perryman (hamstring) missed practices this offseason due to a hamstring strain.
|Footballguys view: The rookie linebacker can be an impact player at the pro level. Perryman does a good job of sniffing out plays as they unfold in front of him, and he arrives at the ball-carrier with natural violence. The Chargers will monitor him closely during training camp to prevent any aggravation of the earlier strain.|
Denzel Perryman player page
Patriots | Scott Chandler impressed Mon Jul 27, 10:20 AM
New England Patriots TE Scott Chandler was one of the stars of the offseason workout program by dominating in the red zone alongside TE Rob Gronkowski.
|Footballguys view: We'll see if Chandler can come in and do the same thing in training camp and the preseason. Keep Chandler on your waiver-wire speed dial if the Patriots look like they'll use him more than most expect. Over the last four years in Buffalo, Chandler has caught 17 touchdown passes. He might be a sneaky red-zone target here and there for Tom Brady this year.|

Vikings | Anthony Barr to work on conditioning Mon Jul 27, 09:04 AM
Minnesota Vikings LB Anthony Barr (knee) will be limited to start training camp as he needs to work on his conditioning after missing much of the spring. 'He feels much better,' head coach Mike Zimmer said. 'He's had a really good last two weeks. He's not in the best physical condition right now.'
|Footballguys view: A first-round pick of the Vikings in the 2014 NFL draft, Barr had a strong rookie year (70 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries) before this knee injury cut his debut season short. The team will ease him into action as he comes back, and a Week 1 debut is not out of the question.|

Vikings | DaVaris Daniels to NFI Mon Jul 27, 09:04 AM
Minnesota Vikings WR DaVaris Daniels (undisclosed) was placed on the active/non-football injury list Sunday, July 26.
|Footballguys view: Daniels was suspended for the 2014 season at Notre Dame due to an academics scandal. The undrafted rookie has strong hands, but his game needs refinement. He's a longshot to make the team, but might stick around on a practice squad.|

Vikings | Josh Robinson to PUP Mon Jul 27, 09:04 AM
Minnesota Vikings CB Joshua Robinson (pectoral) was placed on the active Physically Unable to Perform list Sunday, July 26.

Bills | Sammy Watkins' targets to decline? Sun Jul 26, 11:40 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins was targeted 128 times last year, but only one receiver has been targeted more than 110 times in a season for head coach Rex Ryan.
|Footballguys view: We can't see Ryan increasing that number this season...even with a gifted wide receiver like Watkins on his roster. Fantasy owners should consider Watkins a low-end WR2 in PPR leagues. If you can snare him as your WR3, then even better. Nobody doubts his talent, but the nature of the offense is to run early and often--plus, the quarterback situation is bleak. That's why Watkins should go off the board around WR24 and not sooner.|
Sammy Watkins player page
Bills | Sammy Watkins' production deceiving Sun Jul 26, 09:09 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins recorded 53.3% of his receiving yards and four of his six touchdowns in four games last year.
|Footballguys view: This is an important note for fantasy owners expecting a huge second-year breakout for Watkins. Yes, he's incredibly talented but the quarterback situation in Buffalo could hold him down. The nature of the run-heavy offense under Rex Ryan could also limit the production for those in the passing game. His current ADP is WR26 (5.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.|
Sammy Watkins player page
Vikings | Mike Wallace impresses at camp Sun Jul 26, 08:50 PM
Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace was impressive during training camp Sunday, July 26.
|Footballguys view: Wallace never played up to his potential (or his paycheck) during his time with the Dolphins. All reports this offseason seem to indicate that he and second-year QB Teddy Bridgewater are putting on a helluva show. If the connection comes through for fantasy owners, Wallace could outperform his current ADP of WR35 (7.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams busy as backup Sun Jul 26, 08:39 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams said he 'absolutely' received enough work as the backup during the first day of training camp Sunday, July 26, and he expects to be ready to start Week 1 if RB Le'Veon Bell is suspended.
|Footballguys view: Bell currently is on the books for a three-game suspension. That could be reduced, but we do not think the suspension will be completely eliminated. That means Williams is likely to start at least one game when the regular season kicks off. He's a capable veteran who could perform like a RB2 in PPR leagues while Bell is out.|
