Rams | Austin Davis named Rams' starting QB    Wed Oct 1, 03:44 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Austin Davis has been named the team's starting quarterback moving forward.

Footballguys view: Davis looked like a better and more dangerous downfield passer than Shaun Hill, so this is good news for the whole offense, but especially Brian Quick and Kenny Britt. Davis is a reasonable streaming option and a good cheap QB play in daily fantasy against the Eagles this week.

49ers | Vernon Davis may not practice    Wed Oct 1, 03:41 PM

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (back) doubts he will participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1, as he continues to deal with back spasms.

Footballguys view: Davis owners should expect to not have his services for Week 5 against the Chiefs. There are a ton of good one-week (or longer) options on the waiver wire at tight end, so they shouldn't have trouble finding a replacement for the time being.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon probable    Wed Oct 1, 03:17 PM

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1, and is probable for Week 5.

Footballguys view: McKinnon might have trouble getting in a groove if Christian Ponder is the starter, but the Packers run defense was terrible vs. Chicago last week, so McKinnon is still worth a what the heck flex play because of his big play upside.

Vikings | Wednesday injury report for Week 5    Wed Oct 1, 03:14 PM

Minnesota Vikings LB Chad Greenway (hand, rib) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1, and has been ruled out for the team's Week 5 game. FB Jerome Felton (knee), LB Michael Mauti (foot), CB Captain Munnerlyn (illness), CB Josh Robinson (hamstring), WR Rodney Smith (hamstring) and LB Brandon Watts (knee) all fully practiced and are probable.

Footballguys view: Gerald Hodges will get another start and could help in deep IDP leagues.

Titans | Delanie Walker feeling better    Wed Oct 1, 02:56 PM

Jets | Michael Vick receiving same reps    Wed Oct 1, 02:45 PM

New York Jets QB Michael Vick did not receive any snaps with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, Oct. 1, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Footballguys view: The Jets aren't forcing a QB controversy yet, but if Geno Smith doesn't improve, the calls from Vick will be too loud to ignore. Rex Ryan has indicated that he may not have complete say over this choice. Vick will be an instant low QB1 because of his running ability if he gets installed as the Jets starter in the future.

Giants | Odell Beckham limited     Wed Oct 1, 02:42 PM

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Footballguys view: Beckham could be back this week, but you won't want to play him until he looks healthy and produces. Still, this could be a cue to pick him up in deeper PPR leagues where he could have value soon.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater questionable    Wed Oct 1, 02:42 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) is officially listed as questionable for Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers Thursday, Oct. 2.

  Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater a game-time decision?    Wed Oct 1, 02:40 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) could be a game-time decision in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers Thursday, Oct. 2. Head coach Mike Zimmer said the team doesn't want to put him at risk for the rest of the season.

Footballguys view: The Vikings would be foolish to risk Bridgewater's well-being this early in his career. If there's any question at all, they should sit him, and it appears that there is. The Packers defense against Christian Ponder could be an excellent play this week, and the Vikings offense could come back to earth with no Bridgewater.

Jets | Eric Decker limited    Wed Oct 1, 02:38 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Footballguys view: Decker was limited last week in the Lions game and still caught four balls and a score. He is a solid WR3/Flex with WR2 upside against the Chargers this week and a safe play unless you hear otherwise before the game.

Titans | Jake Locker throwing    Wed Oct 1, 02:37 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (wrist) was throwing during the media-access portion of practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Footballguys view: Locker apparently looked good and should get the start this week. Until he actually plays well, it's hard to see Locker as an upgrade, even over Week 4 starter Charlie Whitehurst.

Giants | Wednesday practice report for Week 5    Wed Oct 1, 02:31 PM

New York Giants LB Jon Beason (foot, toe), LB Devon Kennard (hamstring) and P Steve Weatherford (ankle) all were limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Colts | Jack Mewhort to miss Week 5    Wed Oct 1, 02:25 PM

Indianapolis Colts OG Jack Mewhort (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 5.

Footballguys view: Mewhort has been an instant quality starter at guard for a Colts team that has had trouble finding answers on the offensive line, so this is a blow to their offense, but not one that should change your lineup decisions on Colts this week.

Eagles | Jason Kelce making progress    Wed Oct 1, 02:19 PM

Philadelphia Eagles C Jason Kelce (hernia) is making progress in his recovery from sports hernia surgery. His target return day is Nov. 10.

Footballguys view: He can't get back soon enough for the ailing Eagles offensive line. Right tackle Lane Johnson is back from suspension this week, so that will help.

Link to story

Packers | Wednesday practice report for Week 5    Wed Oct 1, 02:17 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1, and has been ruled out for the team's Week 5 game. LB Josh Boyd (hamstring) and DE Josh Boyd (knee) both did not practice and are doubtful. LB Brad Jones was limited in practice and is probable. LB Mike Neal (hip) did not practice and is probable. OG T.J. Lang (not injury related) is probable. LB Clay Matthews (groin) fully practiced and is probable.

Footballguys view: Davante Adams is a boom/bust WR3/Flex tomorrow night on this news. He had a long TD on an insane throw from Aaron Rodgers called back by penalty last week, so the big play upside is there in this offense with this quarterback.

Seahawks | Luke Willson could help passing game    Wed Oct 1, 01:58 PM

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson could have a role in the passing game against the Washington Redskins in Week 5 since he will be the starting tight end, and the Redskins allowed New York Giants TE Larry Donnell to catch seven passes for 54 yards and three touchdowns in Week 4.

Footballguys view: Willson is a desperation play this week, but it is also an audition for a long-term role that could increase his dynasty value. He has tremendous physical tools and Russell Wilson is breaking out as a passer, so monitor Willson in dynasty leagues.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno a few weeks away?    Wed Oct 1, 01:42 PM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) said he is about four weeks away from returning.

Footballguys view: Lamar Miller is going to remain a strong RB2 for at least a few more weeks at the helm of this suddenly great Miami running game.

Dolphins | Randy Starks' injury not serious    Wed Oct 1, 01:18 PM

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno not practicing    Wed Oct 1, 01:08 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) was not participating during the media-access portion of practice Wednesday, Oct. 1. Moreno originally told teammates he was targeting Week 6 for a return, but a team official has told other people the team expects Moreno to miss a few more weeks. The team hopes Moreno will be able to return at some point in October.

Footballguys view: Moreno could be out until Week 9, as he said he thinks he is four weeks again. Lamar Miller is going to retain great value coming out of the Dolphins bye this week.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart to practice    Wed Oct 1, 12:55 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) is in pads Wednesday, Oct. 1, and will participate in practice.

Footballguys view: Stewart might get back on the field this week, but he won't be a sure bet to be effective. This could be enough to pick him up in very deep leagues, but don't get too excited about Stewart's prospects this weekend.

Browns | Ben Tate to be limited    Wed Oct 1, 12:47 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Ben Tate (knee) will be limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Footballguys view: Tate should start as long as he gets a full practice in by the end of the week, and he gets a terrific matchup against the Titans that should make him a solid RB2 with some risk of rust from his layoff.

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts week-to-week    Wed Oct 1, 12:34 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) said he should be considered week-to-week because of his hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Shorts can't possibly be trusted until he plays a full game and looks good. He should only be held in the very deepest of leagues right now. Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson will get extended looks as starters as long as Shorts and Marqise Lee are out.

Jets | Eric Decker sitting    Wed Oct 1, 12:29 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Footballguys view: Hamstring injuries are known to linger, so the Jets are just giving Decker a bit more time to heal. Check back later in the week to see if Decker can get back to practice with the goal of playing in Week 5.

Lions | Calvin Johnson feeling better    Wed Oct 1, 12:12 PM

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) said he's feeling much better this week than he did at the same point last week.

Footballguys view: Good news for fantasy owners here. Johnson was used a decoy last week, and his performance was a big disappointment in Week 4. Even though he let you down last week, fantasy owners still have to start the most talented receiver in the league in Week 5.

Buccaneers | No surgery planned for Josh McCown    Wed Oct 1, 12:10 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh McCown (thumb) doesn't have surgery planned for his injured thumb. He's improving, but he's unlikely to start in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints.

Footballguys view: Mike Glennon has a real opportunity to keep the starting job if he plays well while McCown is out. The Bucs won their first game of the year with Glennon under center last week. We'll see if he can keep it up on the road (again) against a not-as-tough-as-we-thought Saints defense in Week 5.

Titans | Bishop Sankey's reps to increase    Wed Oct 1, 11:40 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey is likely to see more work in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns than he has in his first four games, head coach Ken Whisenhunt said on his radio show Tuesday on 104.5 FM The Zone. In the last two weeks, Sankey has been on the field for 22 and 29 snaps, the highest totals of any Titans running back. Whisenhunt again noted that Sankey's footwork has improved.

Footballguys view: Whisenhunt loves footwork! Sankey is getting a larger role with the team each week, and fantasy owners need to recognize the transition. The Titans offense should see Jake Locker back under center this week, but we still can't recommend Sankey as anything more than a RB3/flex play in Week 5.

Eagles | Jeremy Maclin will practice WED    Wed Oct 1, 10:53 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin will return to practice Wednesday, Oct. 1, according to head coach Chip Kelly.

Footballguys view: Maclin is the best deep target the Eagles have on the roster. QB Nick Foles is not having much success as a passer as he's constantly under duress. He's feeling pressure on about 27 percent of his dropbacks this year, among the league's highest rates.

Titans | Lache Seastrunk signs    Wed Oct 1, 10:48 AM

The Tennessee Titans signed free-agent RB Lache Seastrunk (Panthers) to the practice squad Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Footballguys view: Seastrunk is super fast in a straight line, but he's bounced around to multiple teams now in his rookie season. Deep dynasty owners thought maybe he could be something, but they may be left holding the bag -- and empty bag.

Cowboys | Tony Romo to sit Wednesday    Wed Oct 1, 10:44 AM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo will not practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Footballguys view: This is probably just a day of rest for the veteran quarterback.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams out    Wed Oct 1, 10:14 AM

Updating an earlier report, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) is out for Week 5, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Footballguys view: Here we go with the Darrin Reaves era! Ugh, there are reports that Jonathan Stewart may return to action this week. We're just avoiding the Panthers RB situation right now even against a Bears defense that ranks 20th against the run and allows 122.5 rushing yards per game.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart could play    Wed Oct 1, 10:12 AM

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) has a chance to play in Week 5, as head coach Ron Rivera said he's hopeful Stewart can return this week.

Footballguys view: "Could" and "Hope" are two words we don't want to associate with fantasy starters. Stewart coming back from a knee injury is not someone we can start with confidence--even if he does play against the Bears defense. It looks like Darrin Reaves is going to be the lead back for the Panthers this week.

Texans | One signed, one cut    Wed Oct 1, 09:36 AM
