Patriots | Matt Forte of interest to Pats?    Sun Feb 7, 02:21 PM

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte could be pursued by the New England Patriots this offseason.

Footballguys view: That would be a fine move for the Patriots as Forte is a fantastic all-purpose RB who can be on the field all three downs. The RB market is thick with talent this offseason, so perhaps Forte's price tag will be lower than expected.

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi could start    Sun Feb 7, 01:55 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi is seen as a starting-caliber running back capable of taking over for impending free-agent RB Lamar Miller.

Footballguys view: We love Ajayi's upside and natural ability. He's a powerful runner who can get stronger as the game goes on. The Dolphins offense is one to invest in with new head coach Adam Gase taking over.

Panthers | No limitations for Thomas Davis?    Sun Feb 7, 01:38 PM

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) isn't expected to be limited in Super Bowl 50, according to head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion. Davis will wear a pad on his arm but he will not wear a cast.

Footballguys view: It's simply amazing that he's going to be able to play with this injury. Davis is a bad ass, and he's certainly proving that by playing in the Super Bowl...doctors think what he's doing is near superhuman.

Eagles | Philly interested in Nick Foles?    Sun Feb 7, 01:23 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Nick Foles could be an option for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason because head coach Doug Pederson drafted them when they were both with Philadelphia and is interested in Foles, according to sources.

Footballguys view: There are many Eagles fans who are not okay with this. Foles looked great in 2013 when he had 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions under former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly. Since then, it's been downhill for the young quarterback. He was a bust with the Rams, and the team is looking for a new passer to lead the team. Perhaps going back to work with Pederson is the best thing for Foles, but call us skeptical if the move happens.

Eagles | No tag expected for Sam Bradford     Sun Feb 7, 01:17 PM

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford is not expected to receive the franchise tag this offseason, but the team is still interested in re-signing him, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Bradford will be an interesting player to sign. He's a decent starter, but Bradford's injury history reads like Infinite Jest. Any team that signs him will need to take that into account, and those injury problems should discount his price.

Broncos | Von Miller expected to receive tag    Sun Feb 7, 01:16 PM

Denver Broncos impending free-agent LB Von Miller likely will receive the franchise tag this offseason if the two sides are not able to agree on a long-term contract, according to sources.

Footballguys view: This has been the expected move by the Broncos for some time. It became even more evident when they extended the contract of DE Derek Wolfe back in mid-January. With the franchise tag, the Broncos will have until July 15th to work out a new long-term deal that could pay Miller well over $100 million.

Seahawks | Marshawn Lynch planning to retire    Sun Feb 7, 12:57 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch has told people close to him that he plans to retire, according to multiple league sources.

Footballguys view: Of course Lynch is going to go out on his own terms. Reports have surfaced indicated that Lynch has not spent a penny of the $49.7 million he's made during his NFL career. There's no question that he won't be a player who sticks around past his prime.

Bears | Ezekiel Elliott wants to play in Chicago    Sun Feb 7, 12:03 AM

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott said being drafted by the Chicago Bears would be his ideal scenario. 'My running back coach my sophomore year is Stan Drayton and he's up at the Chicago Bears right now, so that would be a dream situation for me honestly,' Elliott said. 'I know if I went up there he'd push me to the limits that I need to be and I'd accomplish everything I want to in my NFL career.'

Footballguys view: Elliott is considered by most to be the top RB in the 2016 NFL draft, and he should go off the board in the first round. the Bears have the 11th-overall pick, but their biggest needs are clearly on the defensive side of the ball. With Jeremy Langford and Kadeem Carey already in place, we feel the Bears will pass on a supremely talented Elliott to perhaps add to their pass-rushers on defense.

Panthers | Cam Newton takes home some hardware    Sat Feb 6, 10:06 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton was named the 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year Saturday, Feb. 6.

Footballguys view: Newton certainly deserved both awards as he was the best player in the NFL this year. The supporting cast in Carolina's offense isn't as good as it could be, and Newton was able to bring out the best in the guys around him.

Raiders | Amari Cooper confident in Derek Carr    Sat Feb 6, 09:40 PM

Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper said he has 'no doubt' that QB Derek Carr will be an elite player at the position.

Footballguys view: We're also confident in the young passer, and throwing to an elite-level talent like Cooper doesn't hurt his prospects. In 2015, Carr had almost 4,000 yards passing and threw 32 touchdowns. He finished the year as the 14th-best fantasy QB in standard leagues, and Carr has the upside to be a top-10 QB in 2016.

Rams | Todd Gurley ready for the big stage    Sat Feb 6, 09:34 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley said he is ready to handle the attention that will come with the franchise's move to Los Angeles. 'There's no doubt that's exciting to think about,' Gurley said. 'It's Los Angeles. It's Hollywood. It's the bright lights. I'm ready for it, to embrace it.'

Footballguys view: Gurley is a player the team should build around, and he can be a marquee player for the Rams in their new/old home.

Broncos | Peyton Manning coming back?    Sat Feb 6, 09:26 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning's former coach and current Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator, Clyde Christensen, isn't 'buying' the idea that the Super Bowl will be Manning's last game. 'I know how much he loves doing what he does,' Christensen said. 'He sometimes forgets and still gives me projects and forgets that he has a coach there. I still get a glimpse of how much this guy enjoys football like he does, enjoys the quarterback position like he does and I wouldn't count on him bowing out too early.'

Footballguys view: We're going to politely disagree with Christensen here. Manning's body isn't the same as it used to be, and he's wearing down with age...just like all the greats do. If Manning doesn't feel like he can compete at a high level, then he'll likely hang up his cleats for good.

Rams | Todd Gurley earns ROY honors    Sat Feb 6, 09:08 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley was named the 2015 Offensive Rookie of the Year Saturday, Feb. 6.

Footballguys view: What we saw in 2015 is just the tip of the iceberg with Gurley. Playing in only 13 games--and less than a year removed from an ACL injury--the young RB showed his superstar potential by rushing for 1,106 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns. In standard-scoring leagues, Gurley finished the year as the 5th-best fantasy RB. We're looking at a back who is best described as the next Adrian Peterson, and Gurley could dominate for years to come.

Browns | Josh Gordon must convince commissioner     Sat Feb 6, 08:48 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon must convince NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell he won't slip up again in the future in order to be reinstated. 'Our No. 1 issue here is to prevent these things from happening,' Goodell said Friday, Feb. 5. 'I'm hopeful that Josh understands that he's going to have to conduct himself differently going forward to be a member of the NFL and to be representing the Cleveland Browns, or any team in the NFL.'

Footballguys view: If he's on the field, Gordon can be a dominant force for the Browns. The team is undergoing major changes (again), but we believe in new head coach Hue Jackson. Gordon could easily be a top-10 fantasy WR in 2016 if he plays a full 16-game season.

Lions | Tony Gonzalez comments on Eric Ebron     Sat Feb 6, 08:08 PM

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron needs to change up his routine in order to reach his potential, according to retired TE Tony Gonzalez. 'Whatever he's doing, is not helping him be the best,' Gonzalez said. 'If he could figure out a routine that would help him get to where he should be, then he'll be on his way. But a lot of guys don't do that; they don't figure it out.'

Footballguys view: Nothing like getting into specifics. Gonzalez was able to be a superstar in the league because of amazing natural talent and a die-hard work ethic. Ebron has a ton of athletic talent, but if he doesn't put more time into his craft then he'll always be remembered as the player taken instead of WR Odell Beckham Jr.

Seahawks | Thomas Rawls should be ready    Sat Feb 6, 06:42 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) said he's pain-free and is expected to be ready for training camp.

Footballguys view: We think the Seahawks are done with Marshawn Lynch (and he may be done in the NFL), so Rawls should enter 2016 as the top RB on the roster. With his all-purpose skill set, Rawls has the upside to be a top-15 fantasy running back. In only 13 regular-season games, Rawls finished the season as the 26th-best fantasy RB in standard scoring leagues.

Colts | Henry Anderson out for Week 1?    Sat Feb 6, 03:50 PM

Indianapolis Colts DE Henry Anderson (knee) is not expected to be ready for Week 1 of the 2016 regular season.

Footballguys view: No surprise here as Anderson tore his ACL in early November. Even an accelerated recovery would put him near full strength after the start of the regular season. We should get an update from head coach Chuck Pagano at the Scouting Combine later this month.

49ers | Anquan Boldin facing free agency    Sat Feb 6, 03:23 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Anquan Boldin will be an unrestricted free-agent this offseason if he is not re-signed. Boldin has already said he would like to return to San Francisco.

Footballguys view: Boldin would be an interesting fit in the Chip Kelly system. If he stays with the 49ers, Boldin would likely have to take a discounted price.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley unlikely to rejoin Pats    Sat Feb 6, 02:54 PM

New York Jets impending free-agent RB Stevan Ridley is not expected to be pursued by the New England Patriots, his former team. The Patriots will likely look to add depth at running back this offseason, and Ridley is entering free agency, but New England is expected to look elsewhere.

Footballguys view: The RB market in free agency is going to be rough as there's a ton of talented backs who are likely to be available. Ridley's best days may be behind him, so we're not expecting the market to be white hot for his services.

Browns | Josh Gordon confident in a return    Sat Feb 6, 01:35 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is confident that he has met the terms of his indefinite suspension in order to be reinstated, according to a source. If Gordon is reinstated, he would revert back to Stage 3 of the NFL's substance abuse policy. He would receive random testing and would still be one more incident away from another indefinite suspension.

Footballguys view: All signs have been positive about Gordon over the last week or so. It sounds like he's focused on football, and he is ready to walk the right path. If he's healthy and not suspended, Gordon can be a top-10 fantasy WR--even with poor QB play. We're hopeful to see him back on the field in 2016 and dominating once again on Sunday.

Jaguars | Allen Hurns hopes to run soon    Sat Feb 6, 01:14 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (abdomen) said he expects to begin running and training in about a month. He also said he'll definitely be ready for organized team activities this offseason. Hurns is recovering from sports hernia surgery he had in January.

Footballguys view: Hurns is one tough player. He played through injuries this last season, and in 15 games he posted career-best numbers of 64 catches, 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns. The double-digit touchdowns may be difficult to duplicate in 2016, but imagine what Hurns can do if healthy. Catching 75-80 passes is not out of the question with this budding star.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell not running yet    Sat Feb 6, 11:57 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) said he has not been cleared to run at this time. Bell suffered a torn medial collateral ligament during the season.

Footballguys view: No hurries, no worries here. Bell is going to be eased back into action, and we think he'll be out--or limited--during OTAs and minicamp. The plan is to have him ready by training camp, and without setback he could be ready at that time.

Chiefs | Eric Berry a top priority    Sat Feb 6, 11:41 AM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent SS Eric Berry is an important player to the team, and they will do everything they can in order to re-sign him, according to team chairman Clark Hunt.

Footballguys view: Berry beat cancer on his way back to the field in 2015. He's a player we can all cheer for, regardless of team affiliation. It's a wise move for the Chiefs to lock him up to a long-term deal.

Lions | Calvin Johnson and GM could meet    Fri Feb 5, 11:47 PM

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson is staying in touch with team president Rod Wood, and Wood said he hopes to introduce Johnson to general manager Bob Quinn sometime next week.

Footballguys view: Everyone is just going to have to be patient here. It looks like Johnson is going to retire at this time, but he could change his mind as the season draws closer. We don't think a meeting in February with the GM will all of a sudden change his mind. However, it's a wise move for the Lions to stay in contact with Johnson.

Titans | Marcus Mariota praised by Kurt Warner    Fri Feb 5, 09:31 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota was praised by retired QB Kurt Warner. 'And I thought he exceeded a lot of expectations,' Warner said. 'There were things he did really well and made some great decision. There's a lot of things he can build off of, a lot to like.'

Footballguys view: Mariota was a lot better as a rookie than most people expected--except for that Titans fan in the pineapple suit. Look for improved play as the young quarterback continues to get acclimated to the NFL.

Falcons | Roddy White staying in Atlanta?    Fri Feb 5, 09:09 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White was praised by head coach Dan Quinn, and the team is leaning toward keeping White on the team in 2016. 'We are still going through it,' Quinn said Thursday, Feb. 4. 'We're getting there. We are not there yet, but we're getting close.'

Footballguys view: Second-year receiver Justin Hardy could inherit a big opportunity if White is jettisoned and White's fantasy value has diminished to the point that he still wouldn't draw interest in fantasy leagues even if he returns to Atlanta and starts opposite Julio Jones.

NFL | Paxton Lynch will throw at combine    Fri Feb 5, 07:48 PM

Memphis QB Paxton Lynch said Friday, Feb. 5, that he will take part in the passing drills at the NFL Scouting Combine. Lynch is among the top quarterback prospects available in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: It's always good news to hear that a top quarterback prospect is going through the paces at the combine. Lynch is battling Jared Goff and Carson Wentz to be QB1 off of the board.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott likes Dallas    Fri Feb 5, 05:57 PM

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott said he'd love to play for the Dallas Cowboys. 'The Dallas Cowboys (are my pick). I want to go play behind that great offensive line they have down in Dallas,' Elliott said. He ran for more than 1,800 yards in each of his last two seasons in college, and Elliott is pegged to be the top prospect available at his position in the draft this year.

Footballguys view: A running back in the top five might seem unconventional now, but Elliott would maximize the value of the Cowboys studly offensive line.

NFL | Carson Wentz a risky prospect?    Fri Feb 5, 04:06 PM

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz impressed many at Senior Bowl practices last week, but some NFL personnel executives are hesitant to label him a top quarterback prospect entering the 2016 NFL Draft. 'One said 'Boy, that North Dakota State kid is way overrated.' And the other one texted me and said 'After watching him for a full week, there is no way I would draft Carson Wentz in the first round,'' NFL media analyst Lance Zierlein said on.

Footballguys view: Wentz's small school pedigree could keep him from being classified as a first-round worthy "franchise QB" pick, but Joe Flacco overcame the same label to go in the first round and go on to win a Super Bowl. Wentz shouldn't last past the early second round in any event. His meetings with teams and combine performance could give him an extra nudge up the board. Quarterbacks are hard to gauge in the first round because of the supply and demand issue, and both of Zierlein's sources could easily be teams that don't need a quarterback, or a team in the back half of the first that hopes he'll fall to them.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill was sacked 45 times in 2015 and has absorbed 184 over his four-year career, the most in the NFL over that time.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins offensive line has actually been trending in the right direction in limiting sacks even though it is still a problem. New head coach Adam Gase is tasked with finding a combination and scheme that works to unlock Tannehill's abilities. A full year from first-round pick DeVante Parker should help.

Panthers | Cam Newton good in play action    Fri Feb 5, 02:12 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton had nine touchdowns on play-action passes this year, which was second to only New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (10). The Denver Broncos allowed just 87 play-action pass attempts this year (second-fewest), 54% completion percentage on those plays (ranked second) and just two touchdowns (tied for second-fewest).

Footballguys view: The Broncos are tough to establish the run against, so play action doesn't exactly work the same against them as it would against less stout run defense. The Panthers have the advantage of Cam Newton's running ability giving the front seven something to think about on every running play, so they could be more off balance on Sunday.

Broncos | Emmanuel Sanders won't face Josh Norman    Fri Feb 5, 12:53 PM

Carolina Panthers CB Josh Norman said he doesn't expect to line up at all against Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders in Super Bowl 50. Norman is expected to cover Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas instead.

Footballguys view: Thomas is a better matchup for Norman because of his uncanny ability to win at the catch point. Thomas has been struggling with drops lately, and Norman's disruption and true plays on the ball in flight will make it even harder to contend. Sanders is better at running crisp routes and creating separation, and he's likely to be the cornerstone of the Broncos passing offense on Sunday.

Panthers | Thomas Davis expected to start    Fri Feb 5, 12:50 PM

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) is expected to start in Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos, according to head coach Ron Rivera. That's been a huge plus.' Rivera said. 'He actually took a shot in the arm yesterday and said 'I'm fine. That felt pretty good.''

Footballguys view: Davis has overcome three ACL tears. Whatever limitations this injury puts on his abilities should be balanced out by the intensity of the moment and medicine/equipment to allow Davis to operate the way he normally would on the field.

Eagles | DeMarco Murray unlikely to be cut    Fri Feb 5, 12:45 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray is guaranteed $7 million in 2016, and the Eagles would take a $13 million salary cap hit if they were to release him before June 1, which makes Murray unlikely to be cut. Murray would likely have to take a pay cut to be traded.

Footballguys view: Murray staying on the Eagles might not be a best case scenario. New head coach Doug Pederson is in the Andy Reid mold, and just because the Eagles will be forced to keep him due to financial considerations doesn't mean that they'll have to make him a central part of the office. The best case scenario for fantasy players might be that pay cut and trade.

Browns | Johnny Manziel's family worried    Fri Feb 5, 12:28 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel's father, Paul Manziel, said Johnny has twice declined to be admitted to area rehabilitation facilities in the last week. Paul Manziel said he's worried about his son's well being. 'I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday,' Manziel said.

Footballguys view: Manziel has to figure out how important football is to him. It might be his saving grace during this difficult time if he can get the message. Quarterbacks are still hard to find and Manziel actually improved on the field this year, so if he can start to turn it around for real this time, the NFL will eventually have him back.
