49ers | Colin Kaepernick's rehab on track Fri May 6, 12:38 AM
San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder) is doing an 'awfully good job' with his rehab, according to general manager Trent Baalke.
|Footballguys view: The 49ers are stuck with Kaepernick as they were unable to trade him to the Broncos before the draft. His shoulder was one of three surgeries that he's recovering from. Recent pictures show that Kaepernick is skinny and needs to bulk back up when he's ready to start working out as he normally does. We'll see if Blaine Gabbert can beat out Kaepernick for the starting job with the 49ers in Chip Kelly's new system.|

Redskins | Kendall Fuller could be nickel corner Thu May 5, 11:01 PM
Washington Redskins CB Kendall Fuller (knee) could be held out of training camp as he recovers from microfracture surgery, but he will be given an opportunity to win the nickel corner job in 2016.
|Footballguys view: Fuller comes from a great football family, and he would've been drafted higher than the third round if he was fully healthy. We think he has the upside to be a fine slot corner, but he lacks the size and length to be an effective starter on the outside.|
Eagles | Nelson Agholor ready to prove himself Thu May 5, 10:47 PM
Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor said he knows he has something to prove after a disappointing rookie season, and WR Jordan Matthews said Agholor's ankle injury robbed him of his explosiveness and contributed to his struggles.
|Footballguys view: Agholor is certainly better than he showed last year. We're excited to see him healthy and play more like the star he was at USC.|

Jaguars | Kelvin Beachum takes next step in rehab Thu May 5, 10:09 PM

Titans | Tennessee moving on from Bishop Sankey? Thu May 5, 09:40 PM
Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey will share No. 20 with SS Kevin Byard during training camp, and the team isn't running a number-share program for its top players.
|Footballguys view: Good. Sankey was always a bad fit for the Titans offense. They've got DeMarco Murray as their lead back, they drafted Derrick Henry to be part of their "exotic smashmouth" offense and they also have second-year pro David Cobb in the backfield. Sankey is likely to be out of the league or playing for another team in 2016 as the Titans are certain to move on.|

Texans | Tyler Ervin signs rookie deal Thu May 5, 09:28 PM
Houston Texans RB Tyler Ervin signed a four-year deal worth $2.887 million, including a $547,568 signing bonus.
|Footballguys view: The Texans smashed it out of the park with their draft. Ervin is an explosive playmaker who can instantly get to top speed. He's not a big back, but he's a determined runner who can gash a defense when he gets a crease. Ervin should be a fine change-of-pace back behind starter Lamar Miller in 2016.|
Jets | Devin Smith may not be ready Thu May 5, 07:50 PM
New York Jets WR Devin Smith (knee) may not be ready for the start of the regular season as he continues to recover from anterior cruciate ligament surgery.
|Footballguys view: Smith had trouble staying healthy in college, and that injury bug followed him to the pros as a rookie last year. Even when healthy, Smith is a speed guy who drops way too many passes.|

Texans | K.J. Dillon signs rookie contract Thu May 5, 07:29 PM
Houston Texans S K.J. Dillon - one of the team's two fifth-round picks - signed his rookie contract Thursday, May 5.
|Footballguys view: Dillon is a hard-hitting safety who can play close to the line of scrimmage. He'll begin his pro career as a reserve safety and special teams player, but the upside of a starter is there.|
Texans | Houston inks D.J. Reader Thu May 5, 07:22 PM
Houston Texans NT D.J. Reader - one of the team's two fifth-round picks - signed his rookie contract Thursday, May 5.
|Footballguys view: Another big Clemson defensive prospect here. He's a true nose tackle who is going to stuff the run and eat up double teams.|
Seahawks | Seattle still has decent cap space Thu May 5, 06:45 PM

Bears | Talks between Bears, Alshon Jeffery slow Thu May 5, 06:13 PM
Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery has not made much progress in contract talks with the Bears at this point.
|Footballguys view: We're not worried about this (or any franchise-tagged player) just yet. The two sides have until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement. The Bears would be wise to get something done with the star wide receiver.|

Jaguars | Brandon Allen signs with Jaguars Thu May 5, 06:13 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Brandon Allen signed his four-year rookie contract Thursday, May 5. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Allen is an interesting rookie QB to keep an eye on. He's short (6'1") but Allen ran a pro-style system at Arkansas, and he's adept at dropping back and making reads of the entire field. He could one day be the primary backup behind Blake Bortles.|

49ers | Jeff Driskel signs deal with 49ers Thu May 5, 05:19 PM
San Francisco 49ers QB Jeff Driskel signed his four-year rookie deal Thursday, May 5. The deal is worth up to $2.629 million, including a $112,540 signing bonus.
|Footballguys view: We're interested to see how Driskel develops as a pro. We like his athleticism and ability to challenge a defense vertically. The Chip Kelly system is fitting for his skill set.|
Cowboys | Andy Jones given largest bonus by Dallas Thu May 5, 05:08 PM
Dallas Cowboys WR Andy Jones was given a $15,000 signing bonus, which was twice as high as any other undrafted free agent was rewarded by the Cowboys.
|Footballguys view: From Jacksonville State to the NFL. Jones tested unbelievably with a 41.5 vertical jump and 11-foot-1 broad jump. If it doesn't work for him at wide receiver, the Cowboys could also try him at cornerback.|
Steelers | Demarcus Ayers, Tyler Matakevich sign Thu May 5, 05:04 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers seventh-round draft choices WR DeMarcus Ayers and LB Tyler Matakevich signed four-year contracts Thursday, May 5. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Ayers is a smaller/quicker receiver who could contribute as a return man if he makes the team.|
Patriots | Sign Devin Lucien Thu May 5, 04:49 PM
New England Patriots WR Devin Lucien signed his four-year rookie contract Thursday, May 5. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: The former Arizona State star has a good size/speed combination. We're interested in the late-round pick, and Lucien is not afraid to run routes over the middle.|
Patriots | Malcolm Mitchell agrees to terms Thu May 5, 04:37 PM
New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell agreed to terms on his four-year rookie contracts Thursday, May 5. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Mitchell is one of our favorite sleeper WRs this year. He's got the ability to win at the point of the catch, and Mitchell does a good job of tracking deep passes over his shoulder.|
Browns | Hue Jackson talks up running back duo Thu May 5, 04:17 PM
Cleveland Browns RBs Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson were recently lauded by the head coach Hue Jackson. 'Those two guys are as good as I've seen in a while,' Jackson said. 'Their talent is extreme.' As reported earlier, Jackson has pointed to Crowell, mainly, as the reason for the Browns not selecting a running back in the draft. 'I really think Isaiah Crowell is a really good running back. I think he's going to have a sensational season, I really do.'
|Footballguys view: Jackson dealt with a RB duo in Cincinnati with Jeremy Hill and Gio Bernard. It will be interesting to see how he does with Crowell and Johnson. We think Crowell could play the Hill role while Johnson plays the Bernard role for the Browns in 2016. We'll have a clearer picture of what is going to happen when camp gets close.|

Packers | Trevor Davis signs pact with Packers Thu May 5, 02:47 PM
Green Bay Packers WR Trevor Davis signed his rookie contract Thursday, May 5.
|Footballguys view: Davis is a great return man and he should be able to work in that role for the Packers as a pro. He'll give the team depth at the WR position, but his greatest asset is his quickness and ability to make defenders miss.|
Patriots | Cyrus Jones signs deal Thu May 5, 02:38 PM

Redskins | Jordan Reed to work on blocking Thu May 5, 01:51 PM
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed said he's going to work on his blocking technique to clean up holding fouls.
|Footballguys view: We appreciate that Reed is trying to be a more well-rounded player. However, so long as he's healthy Reed will be a top fantasy asset at the TE position. Being a better blocker is great, but he's already proven that he can catch a bunch of passes and score touchdowns. His connection with QB Kirk Cousins makes him at least a top-10 fantasy TE in 2016, and he could easily be top-5 again this year.|

Redskins | Chris Thompson on shaky ground? Thu May 5, 12:57 PM
Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson's spot as the backup running back to RB Matt Jones could be in jeopardy after Washington drafted speedy RB Keith Marshall in the seventh round. The Redskins could also re-sign RB Pierre Thomas, which could pose an even bigger threat to Thompson.
|Footballguys view: Thompson has struggled with injuries during his brief pro career. At best, he's a speedy change-of-pace back. The rookie Marshall has the upside to be a full-time starter for the team if he gets a chance. That's a huge difference in potential between the two.|

Redskins | Jordan Reed vital to Kirk Cousins Thu May 5, 12:51 PM
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed's presence on the field successfully skewed QB Kirk Cousins' numbers in 2015. In 421 pass plays with Reed on the field, Cousins threw for 7.7 yards per attempt with a 111.9 passer rating and 24 touchdowns to four interceptions. When Reed wasn't on the field, Cousins threw for 6.2 yards per attempt with five scores, seven interceptions and a 73.3 rating in 148 plays.
|Footballguys view: The advanced stats certainly show what you see on film. Reed is crucial to Washington's success through the air. Washington was 6-1 when Reed earned more than 65 receiving yards this season and 3-4 when the tight end went under that plateau.|

Broncos | Von Miller wants to stick around Thu May 5, 12:40 PM
Denver Broncos franchise free-agent CB Von Miller said he wants to sign a long-term contract that will keep him in Denver for the rest of his career. 'I'm going to be here in Denver no matter what,' Miller said. 'The contract is going to take care of itself. I'm going to be a Denver Bronco for life.' However, Miller isn't expected to show up for workouts this week.
|Footballguys view: The Broncos have a proven history of signing their franchise-tagged players to new long-term deals before the July 15th deadline. Miller is set to earn a contract that makes him the highest paid defensive player in the league, and we think Denver will have no problem paying that price. However, it's worth noting that deals get done at deadlines. We're not expecting any movement on this contract situation until July.|

Dolphins | Jay Ajayi could see 15 touches Thu May 5, 12:30 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi is expected to see 15 touches per game with the backup receiving 10 touches, in the opinion of Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly.
|Footballguys view: Ajayi has to first be the starter for the team before we go spreading around touches. The Dolphins wanted to do anything they could to find an upgrade at the RB position this offseason. They signed C.J. Anderson to an offer sheet that was matched by the Broncos, and they kicked the tires of veteran free agents like Chris Johnson who ultimately signed elsewhere. In the draft, the Dolphins snared Kenyon Drake (Alabama) in the third round. His speed makes him a dangerous asset and potential starter in 2016. We'll see the two battle it out for the job in training camp.|

Giants | Two Giants cut Thu May 5, 10:21 AM
New York Giants TE Jerome Cunningham and S G.J. Kinne were waived Thursday, May 5.
|Footballguys view: Both could latch on with other teams as camp bodies. Kinne could find a new home for a team that needs a camp arm.|

Steelers | Three Steelers released Thu May 5, 10:05 AM
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Abou Toure, PK Ty Long and OT Mike X. Adams were released Thursday, May 5. Adams was released with the designation of a failed physical.
|Footballguys view: Adams is the player to highlight here. He missed all of last season with a back injury, and that same injury may be the reason why he was released with a 'failed physical' designation. If healthy, Adams could at least be a swing tackle for some team out there.|
Cowboys | Jaylon Smith won't go on IR Thu May 5, 09:56 AM
Dallas Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith (knee) won't be placed on Injured Reserve because the team hopes he can play at some point this season, according to owner Jerry Jones.
|Footballguys view: Jones is hoping that Smith will be ready for a playoff run. The Cowboys need to get there first, and they need a healthy Tony Romo to do that. We think Smith should be shelved for his rookie season so he can be closer to full strength in 2017. The Cowboys seem to be confident about his recovery from an ACL/LCL injury earlier this year.|
Redskins | Jordan Reed agrees to extension Thu May 5, 09:40 AM
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed is signing a five-year, $50 million extension Thursday, May 5, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Last year Reed finished the season as the no.2 fantasy tight end in standard-scoring leagues. If healthy, he could certainly finish near that spot again this year. He has a great connection with QB Kirk Cousins and can be a force in the red zone. Reed's deal reportedly contains $22 million in guaranteed money.|

Falcons | Austin Hooper to help in red zone Thu May 5, 09:06 AM
Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper will help the Falcons in the red zone, where they ranked 17th in the league with a 54.7% conversion rate last season. Stanford tight ends coach Morgan Turner was most impressed with the red zone production Hooper had in a 41-31 win over USC. 'If you go back and watch the game, he goes up and on a corner route, high-points the ball over two DBs,' Turner said. 'He makes another catch when it's Cover 0; a contested catch. Both were in the red zone that got us down to the 1- and 2-yard lines. He's definitely a threat because he will make contested catches.'Link to story
Redskins | Josh Doctson compared to Pro Bowler Thu May 5, 02:14 AM
Washington Redskins rookie WR Josh Doctson has been compared to Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green, a perennial Pro Bowler, by offensive coordinator Sean McVay and head coach Jay Gruden. 'When you've got a guy like that with great body control, elite ball skills, (and) a guy that has a 41-inch vert that plays like that, you see it on tape,' McVay said Wednesday, May 4.Link to story
Redskins | Matt Jones to have large role Thu May 5, 02:13 AM
Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones can handle the load, and the team wants him to be the lead back and they're confident he'll jump into the starting role and be just fine. He posted 339 total offensive snaps in 2015, piling up 490 rushing yards and three touchdowns while adding 19 receptions for 304 yards and a score. Offensive coordinator Sean McVay believes Jones can be an every-down back.Link to story

Eagles | Nelson Agholor needs to step up Thu May 5, 01:50 AM
Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor was one of the least productive wideouts in the league in 2016. No receiver with as many routes run averaged fewer yards, and only eight receivers with as many targets had a worse defense-adjusted yards above replacement ranking.
|Footballguys view: Reports have surfaced that indicate Agholor was banged up last year and played through a high-ankle sprain. That would certainly explain his lack of production. Agholor is a better WR than he showed last year, so we'll see if he can get back on track in 2016.|

Browns | Hue Jackson really likes Ike Thu May 5, 01:50 AM
Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell has a fan in head coach Hue Jackson, and his confidence in Crowell and RB Duke Johnson is why the team did not select a running back in the 2016 NFL draft. Crowell led the team with 185 carries, 706 yards and four touchdowns in 2015. Jackson sees Crowell as a bellcow who can carry the load, and he is confident Crowell can find holes quicker this season.
|Footballguys view: Crowell is Jackson's new Jeremy Hill. The team can lean on Crowell as their lead back in 2016 with Duke Johnson coming onto the field as a change-of-pace back.|

Browns | Duke Johnson praised by HC Thu May 5, 01:49 AM
Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson has been praised by new head coach Hue Jackson, who sees Johnson as an elusive runner and dynamic receiver in a mold similar to Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard. 'I think he's going to have a great year as well,' Jackson said Wednesday, May 4. 'Duke has suddenness and quickness and he can go catch the ball with anybody. He does so many different things that gives your offense a boost.'
|Footballguys view: We're excited to see how Jackson is going to use Johnson in his offense. There are a lot of similarities between Johnson and Bengals RB Gio Bernard. When Jackson was coaching the Bengals offense, he may not have used Bernard as much as some would've liked.|

Colts | Ryan Kelly agrees to terms Wed May 4, 09:20 PM
Indianapolis Colts first-round draft choice C Ryan Kelly agreed to terms with the Colts Wednesday, May 4. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: The Colts need to do something at the center position, and they get a huge upgrade here with Kelly. He's smart, tough and physical. We're expecting him to be a quality center for the Colts for a decade.|

49ers | Jeff Driskel a fit for Chip Kelly's offense? Wed May 4, 08:30 PM
San Francisco 49ers QB Jeff Driskel's athletic ability impressed general manager Trent Baalke, and Driskel felt the 49ers would be a good fit for him because Louisiana Tech's offense had similarities to Chip Kelly's.
|Footballguys view: We really like the addition of Driskel. His college career went off track at Florida, but he transferred to Louisiana Tech and put up a strong season in 2015. He followed that up with an impressive performance during the week of practice for the Senior Bowl earlier this year. Driskel is not afraid to challenge a defense with his arm, and he's athletic enough to keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. In all our dynasty formats we'll be monitoring this young QB.|
Redskins | Josh Doctson will play outside Wed May 4, 07:58 PM
Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson will start out as an outside receiver, playing behind WRs DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, according to offensive coordinator Sean McVay. McVay and head coach Jay Gruden see similarities between Doctson and Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green. 'I think that's a great comparison, because you look at a taller, leaner player with great body control and excellent ball skills,' McVay said.
|Footballguys view: This is the best spot for Doctson. He's a tall receiver who could use a little more sand in his pants. At only 202 pounds, Doctson will have to add muscle and prove that he can get open against physical coverage. We love his nose for the end zone and ability to make difficult catches seem routine.|
