Cowboys | Interested in Lance Briggs    Mon Mar 30, 05:39 PM

Free-agent LB Lance Briggs (Bears) has drawn interest from the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys have interest in Briggs because they might lose Rolondo McClain in free agency. Briggs missed half of 2014 as he dealt with a groin injury. If healthy, Briggs feels like he can still play at a high level.

Buccaneers | Interested in Lance Briggs    Mon Mar 30, 05:37 PM

Free-agent LB Lance Briggs (Bears) has drawn interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Footballguys view: Briggs played for Bucs head coach Lovie Smith during his time with the Bears. He needs to stay healthy after missing half the 2014 season due to a groin injury. If added, Briggs would give the team veteran leadership.

NFL | Lance Briggs confident he can still play    Mon Mar 30, 05:37 PM

Free-agent LB Lance Briggs (Bears) still thinks he can 'perform at an elite level.' He'll turn 35 years old this November. Briggs has drawn interest this offseason from the San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: The veteran linebacker has to stay healthy in order to prove that he can still be an impact player at the pro level. Briggs played in only eight games in 2014 before going on Injured Reserve with a groin injury.

Eagles | Miles Austin signs with Eagles    Mon Mar 30, 05:27 PM

Free-agent WR Miles Austin (Browns) signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, March 30. The deal is worth $2.3 million with $700,000 available in incentives, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Austin gives the Eagles veteran depth at the wide receiver position. That's something they've looked for since losing Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) in free agency. Austin will compete for a reserve spot behind starters Jordan Matthews and Riley Cooper. We should see the Eagles draft a wide receiver as well.

NFL | Jameis Winston an elite talent?    Mon Mar 30, 05:10 PM

Florida State QB Jameis Winston is expected to the sixth quarterback selected No. 1 in the NFL Draft in the last 10 years, and NFL media analyst Lance Zierlein said Winston is his No. 5 quarterback in the last five years. Analyst Gil Brandt called Winston 'an elite talent' and one of the top-10 quarterbacks in the last decade. Winston has been compared to former Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell and Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, and analyst Daniel Jeremiah isn't concerned about Winston being a bust like Russell.

Footballguys view: We like the Roethlisberger comparison. Winston is big, can sluff off defenders looking to sack him, and he has no problem attacking a defense with his arm...but he can take off to run if need be. He'll likely be the top pick in the 2015 NFL draft for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Redskins | Washington not giving up on RG3    Mon Mar 30, 04:57 PM

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III isn't being given up on by the team's executives, according to executive Doug Williams. 'This is a young guy that's got some talent,' Williams said. 'There are adjustments that he has to make if I think given time, and I think that's one of the reasons why nobody has given up on him. With the talent that he does have, you're hoping that the last couple of years with the injuries and everything is out of the way, that he will develop into the guy that we all hope for him to be. I think it's fair to give him that opportunity.'

Footballguys view: Washington gave up too much to give up on Griffin...yet. This season is shaping up to be a make-or-break year for the young quarterback. He needs to stay healthy and prove that he can be the franchise quarterback the team envisioned when they paid a hefty price to move up and draft him second overall in the 2012 NFL draft.

Eagles | DeMeco Ryans to be ready for camp    Mon Mar 30, 04:57 PM

Philadelphia Eagles LB DeMeco Ryans (Achilles') said he will be ready for training camp in July after coming back from his second torn Achilles' tendon since 2010.

Footballguys view: He will likely skip the organized team activities and minicamp, however. Ryans said he is right on schedule in his rehab after missing the final nine games of 2014.

Redskins | Michael Hill signs    Mon Mar 30, 04:56 PM

Free-agent RB Michael Hill (Colts) signed an undisclosed deal with the Washington Redskins Monday, March 30.

Footballguys view: This is just a depth move here. Hill is known as a sleeper prospect in super deep dynasty leagues, but we're not even sure he can make Washington's final roster. Watch to see if the former Missouri Western star can make an impact in training camp and the preseason.

Lions | LaAdrian Waddle could start on PUP    Mon Mar 30, 04:49 PM

Detroit Lions OT LaAdrian Waddle (knee) is recovering from a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and could start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: Head coach Jim Caldwell said 'it's going to be a little while' before Waddle is return to return. The team is hopeful Waddle can be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas will miss offseason program    Mon Mar 30, 02:12 PM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas will not be present at the Broncos' offseason program or attend workouts with QB Peyton Manning at Duke University. Thomas is currently in Los Angeles for a charity event.

Footballguys view: Thomas has the franchise tag, and he currently has not signed his tender. He probably won't so he doesn't lose leverage in negotiations on a new long-term deal. The Broncos and Thomas have until July 15th to work out a new contract. We feel confident the two sides will get something done in July, and Thomas should then be available for training camp.

Eagles | Sam Bradford considered quitting    Mon Mar 30, 01:59 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford (knee) considered quitting football after he suffered his second torn anterior cruciate ligament but was talked out of the idea by former college coach Josh Heupel. Heupel said Bradford is one of the most competitive players he has coached and that Bradford wants to come back and prove himself.

Footballguys view: Bradford has talked about his frustration in coming back from multiple injuries before. Even though that's the case, this revelation about considering retirement does raise some red flags. The Eagles seem to be excited about Bradford's fit in the offense, but who knows if there's any plans to later trade him. Stay tuned.

Falcons | Nick Marshall worked out    Mon Mar 30, 01:36 PM

Auburn QB/CB Nick Marshall worked out privately for the Atlanta Falcons this past weekend. Marshall participated in only cornerback drills during the workout.

Footballguys view: Marshall is not a quarterback at the pro level. He was moved to cornerback during the week of practice for the Senior Bowl earlier this year, and that's where he'll have to find a home in the pros. He's a good athlete, but obviously he's raw at the cornerback position.

Panthers | Jordan Todman signed    Mon Mar 30, 01:33 PM

Free-agent RB Jordan Todman (Jaguars) signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers Monday, March 30. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Only fantasy owners in super deep dynasty leagues should be interested here. Todman has good straight-line speed, but he's not big enough to take on more than a change-of-pace role in the NFL. Todman will compete for touches behind Jonathan Stewart, and the Panthers will likely draft a back too.

Packers | B.J. Raji offered deal    Mon Mar 30, 01:29 PM

Free-agent DT B.J. Raji (Packers) was offered a one-year deal for less than $2 million by the Green Bay Packers, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

Footballguys view: Raji hasn't looked good in some time, and that's why the market has been so cool for his services.

Falcons | Will lose fifth-round pick    Mon Mar 30, 01:13 PM

The Atlanta Falcons will lose a 2016 fifth-round draft choice and have been fined $350,000 for piping in crowd noise during home games over the last two seasons. President Rich McKay will also be suspended from the NFL's competition committee from April 1 until at least June 30.

Footballguys view: The Falcons have likely learned their lesson here. They messed up by pumping in crowd noise, and now they're paying the price. The NFL went a little light on the Falcons here compared to what some thought could happen.

Seahawks | Chris Myers visiting    Mon Mar 30, 01:09 PM

Free-agent C Chris Myers (Texans) is meeting with the Seattle Seahawks Monday, March 30, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Myers is a great fit for a zone-blocking team. The veteran center might also draw interest from a team like the Broncos on the open market.

NFL | Matt Schaub expected to sign this week    Mon Mar 30, 01:07 PM

Free-agent QB Matt Schaub (Raiders) is expected to sign with a team this week, according to a source. Schaub has received interest from the New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons.

Footballguys view: Schaub is a backup at this point in his career. Any team that is interested should be considering him only as a reserve. We could see the Ravens picking him up.

Eagles | Miles Austin likely headed to Philly    Mon Mar 30, 11:41 AM

Updating an earlier report, free-agent WR Miles Austin (Browns) will likely sign with the Philadelphia Eagles this week if all goes well with his physical, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Austin is not the same player he used to be, but he could give the Eagles valuable veteran depth. They are looking for help at the position since they lost Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) in free agency.

Panthers | Randy Gregory working out with Carolina    Mon Mar 30, 10:45 AM

Nebraska LB Randy Gregory is working out for the Carolina Panthers Monday, March 30. Gregory met with Carolina last week as well.

Footballguys view: Gregory tested positive for marijuana at the NFL combine earlier this year, but he is unlikely to fall out of the first round. Teams will have to decide to Gregory has kicked the habit, or if this problem with weed is going to continue (he had two positive tests in college at Nebraska).

49ers | Hakeem Nicks visiting San Fran    Mon Mar 30, 09:14 AM

Free-agent WR Hakeem Nicks (Colts) is visiting the San Francisco 49ers Monday, March 30.

Footballguys view: Nicks hasn't gotten much interest on the open market. The veteran receiver isn't what he used to be, and he's looking for a bounce-back season after a disappointing year with the Colts in 2014.

Packers | Letroy Guion agrees to return    Mon Mar 30, 09:14 AM

Free-agent DT Letroy Guion agreed to re-sign with the Green Bay Packers Monday, March 30. Guion agreed to a one-year deal that should be finalized Tuesday, April 1.

Footballguys view: This was the Packers plan all along. A delay was likely caused by Guion's drug arrest earlier this year. Charges were dropped, and Guion only had to pay a fine. A visit to the Seahawks likely prompted the Packers to make a move to keep Guion around for 2015.

Patriots | Chandler Jones had surgery    Mon Mar 30, 08:49 AM

New England Patriots DE Chandler Jones (undisclosed) has been at Gillette Stadium for much of the offseason rehabbing from an undisclosed surgery. He has been walking with the aid of crutches.

Footballguys view: Jones missed six games last year due to a hip injury that did not require surgery. Nobody knows what he went under the knife for, but expect the Patriots to bring him back slowly as he recovers.

NFL | Stefen Wisniewski had offseason surgery    Mon Mar 30, 02:10 AM

Free-agent C Stefen Wisniewski (Raiders) had offseason surgery after playing with a torn labrum in 2014.

Footballguys view: And now we know why he's gone unsigned on the open market. Wisniewski is a talented young center, but he's going to have to prove that he's close to 100 percent before some team takes a chance on him. The Raiders signed Rodney Hudson earlier this year to replace him. Wisniewski had the worst season of his career in 2014 giving up 12 QB hurries. Playing with a torn labrum for most of last seasons certainly did not help.

Seahawks | Demarcus Dobbs re-signed by Seattle    Sun Mar 29, 08:33 PM

Free-agent DE Demarcus Dobbs re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, March 29. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Seattle picked up Dobbs on waivers last November after the 49ers let him go. He's a reserve defensive lineman, but he can also contribute as a tight end in a pinch.

Redskins | Competition not going away for RGIII    Sun Mar 29, 07:28 PM

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III will be the first-team quarterback during offseason workouts, according to head Jay Gruden, but Gruden also said he expects QB Kirk Cousins and QB Colt McCoy to be on the roster when the regular season begins.

Footballguys view: This is shaping up to be a make-or-break season for Griffin. He'll be healthy, and he needs to improve his play if he wants to continue as the quarterback for Washington. We'll see if the team can craft an offense that best suits his talents.

Jets | Erin Henderson to visit    Sun Mar 29, 06:53 PM

Free-agent LB Erin Henderson (Vikings) is scheduled to visit the New York Jets.

Footballguys view: Henderson has two drunk driving arrests, and that could be giving teams pause when considering him as an offseason addition. If signed, Henderson would give the Jets veteran depth at the linebacker position.

Packers | Eddie Lacy will see limited touches    Sun Mar 29, 01:08 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy will have his touches limited next season in order to keep him healthy during the season, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. 'I'm conscientious of how many times each guy touches the ball, how much each guy plays, especially the running back. I think you have to be smart there,' McCarthy said. McCarthy indicated he is not looking for Lacy to abandon his physical running style.

Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here. Lacy came out of Alabama with durability concerns, and the Packers are wise to save him up a little bit for what should be another run into the playoffs. Remember that last season, Lacy only saw more than 20 carries in a game three times all year long. His workload should be similar this year.

NFL | Stevan Ridley to start meeting teams    Sun Mar 29, 10:04 AM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (knee) is scheduled to meet with a few teams this week. Ridley is expected to receive full medical clearance in around six weeks.

Footballguys view: Ridley should start getting more interest now that he's closer to full strength. Some team may give him a shot before the draft, but we think he may be one of those players added in August (or maybe after Week 1). He's not the same player he used to be, and Ridley has disappointed as a pro.

Vikings | Have shown interest in Brandon Spikes    Sun Mar 29, 09:49 AM

Free-agent LB Brandon Spikes (Bills) has received interest from the Minnesota Vikings, but the two sides have not been able to agree on financial terms.

Footballguys view: Spikes is still a two-down thumper who arrives at the ball with natural violence. The Bills are interested in bringing him back, but the price needs to be right. If he's getting interest from the Vikings, then Spikes' price tag could go higher than what Buffalo is willing to pay.

Vikings | Not interested in Justin Blalock    Sun Mar 29, 09:47 AM

Free-agent OG Justin Blalock (Falcons) has not received any interest from the Minnesota Vikings at this point.

Footballguys view: Blalock has been getting a bit of interest on the open market. He's played at guard for most of the last eight seasons in Atlanta, and Blalock has only missed three games in his career.

Vikings | Michael Crabtree not an option for MIN    Sun Mar 29, 09:45 AM

Free-agent WR Michael Crabtree (49ers) is not a target for the Minnesota Vikings at this time.

Footballguys view: Crabtree isn't getting that much interest on the open market. The Vikings have revamped their WR corps when they traded for Mike Wallace earlier this year. They'll use Wallace and Charles X. Johnson as outside receivers with Jarius Wright and Cordarrelle Patterson competing for WR3 duties.

49ers | Desmond Bishop to visit    Sun Mar 29, 09:40 AM

Free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (49ers) is scheduled to meet with the San Francisco 49ers Monday, March 30, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Bishop played in two games for the 49ers last year. He's bounced around to three different teams since the Packers selected him in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL draft.

NFL | Quinten Rollins to visit four teams    Sun Mar 29, 07:27 AM

Miami (Ohio) CB Quinten Rollins has visits planned to the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers before the NFL Draft. Sources indicate as many as 10 teams may be on his visitation list.

Footballguys view: Rollins was a four-year starter for the Redhawks on their basketball team at point guard. He's played one year of college football, but there are several teams interested in the raw corner. He needs to work on his technique, but his footwork and ball skills are elite.

Broncos | C.J. Anderson enters OTAs as starter    Sun Mar 29, 07:16 AM

Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson will open OTAs in April as the starter, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

Footballguys view: Anderson will open up the year as the starter. So long as he stays healthy, Anderson should be able to shine as the lead back in Denver. The zone-blocking system is perfect for his skill set, and there's a chance Anderson could rush for well over 1,000 yards this season.

49ers | SF has no talks with Brandon Lloyd    Sun Mar 29, 07:07 AM

Free-agent WR Brandon Lloyd (49ers) has had no conversations with his former team about a new contract.

Footballguys view: Lloyd should be out there if the 49ers get desperate at the position. This is a great WR draft class, and we think the 49ers would be best served to look at one during the draft rather than bring back the veteran Lloyd.

Cowboys | Team watches Paul Dawson's workout    Sun Mar 29, 07:02 AM

TCU LB Paul Dawson was watched by Dallas Cowboys scouts during his Pro Day workout. Sources said Dawson's workout times were better than at the NFL Combine.

Footballguys view: Dawson will be a three-down weak-side linebacker in the NFL. He has great agility, a nose for the ball and he arrives at the play with natural violence. Dawson has the athleticism to cover, but he'll have to improve his diagnostic skills on pass plays.

Ravens | DeVante Parker to meet with BAL    Sun Mar 29, 06:56 AM

Louisville WR DeVante Parker is set to meet with the Baltimore Ravens in the next few days. He will also meet with the Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins in the future.

Footballguys view: Parker is one of our favorite wide receivers in this draft class. We like his ball-tracking ability on deep passes. Parker has a large catch radius, and he does a good job of naturally high-pointing passes. He's quick, but his separation ability is inconsistent.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon to see more targets?    Sat Mar 28, 10:45 PM

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon's production slipped last year largely because of instability at the quarterback position, according to head coach Jay Gruden, and Gruden said that he plans to have Garcon's numbers go 'back up' in 2015.

Footballguys view: Washington would be wise to get Garcon more involved. They need better quarterback play this year if they want to get the most out of their passing game.

Browns | Marcus Mariota not visiting Cleveland    Sat Mar 28, 10:10 PM

Former Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is not currently scheduled for a pre-draft visit with the Cleveland Browns, and's Jeremy Fowler believes the Browns could be saving one of their 30 in-house visits because quarterbacks coach Kevin O'Connell already has inside knowledge about Mariota from his time as Mariota's private tutor.

Footballguys view: The Browns could certainly be interested in a first-round quarterback even though they spent a premium pick on Johnny Manziel last year. The Browns have two first-round picks (12,19) and they may have to move up if they want Mariota.

Link to story

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart limited to 15 carries    Sat Mar 28, 04:54 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart will ideally be limited to 15 carries a game, according to head coach Ron Rivera. The team will look to draft a running back in the 2015 NFL Draft that will likely take eight to 10 carries per game.

Footballguys view: You hear that sound? It's Jonathan Stewart's fantasy owners sobbing upon hearing this news. Stewart was supposed to be "the man" this year without DeAngelo Williams. Now, it looks like he's going to be the lead back...but splitting the workload. This is a great RB draft class, so we don't blame the Panthers for looking to add another back.

Buccaneers | Marcus Mariota will work out for Bucs    Sat Mar 28, 01:07 PM

Former Oregon QB Marcus Mariota has a private workout scheduled with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers April 7.

Footballguys view: The Bucs are going through with due diligence, but we'd be shocked if they chose Mariota with the first-overall pick. Jameis Winston is likely to be their pick and their quarterback for years to come.

Link to story

Panthers | Ben Ijalana visits    Sat Mar 28, 11:07 AM

Free-agent OG Ben Ijalana (Jets) met with the Carolina Panthers Friday, March 27.

Footballguys view: Ijalana has seen his career knocked off track by injuries after the Colts selected him in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He only played six snaps for the Jets last year, and if the Panthers sign him it's only a move for depth...and he's no lock to make the final roster.

Link to story

Titans | Marcus Mariota worked out for Titans    Sat Mar 28, 10:41 AM

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota worked out for the Tennessee Titans shortly after his pro day.

Footballguys view: We just don't buy the Titans interest in Mariota. Make no mistake about it--they need a quarterback since Zach Mettenberger is technically their starter right now. We believe they're trying to get some team behind them nervous about Mariota's availability in order to initiate a trade.

Link to story

Redskins | Marcus Mariota may meet with WAS    Sat Mar 28, 10:37 AM

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota may meet with the Washington Redskins before the 2015 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Even though Washington has Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins, Mariota could be an option for them. We think they'd pass, but this is certainly shaping up to be a make-or-break year for Griffin.

Link to story

Chargers | SD will work out Marcus Mariota    Sat Mar 28, 10:36 AM

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is scheduled to work out for the San Diego Chargers Wednesday, April 15.

Footballguys view: It's interesting to note the Chargers interest here, but they'd have to move up quite a bit to snare Mariota. We believe Mariota could go off the board at sixth overall (Jets) at the latest. The Chargers may not be able to work out a long-term agreement with Philip Rivers, and they are searching for his heir apparent.

Jaguars | Jalen Collins to visit    Sat Mar 28, 02:50 AM

LSU CB Jalen Collins has a visit scheduled with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Collins is a large corner (6'1" 195 pounds) with fluid hips and agility. His upside is through the roof, and Collins could develop into a shutdown corner in the pros. He gets a bit grabby at times, and Collins is known as a physical player. With better technique and proper coaching, Collins could become a great pro.

Bills | Would like Brandon Spikes back    Sat Mar 28, 02:12 AM

Free-agent LB Brandon Spikes (Bills) would have a home with the Buffalo Bills once again, as general manager Doug Whaley expressed interest in bringing Spikes back.

Footballguys view: The Bills made this clear at the scouting combine earlier this year. Nigel Bradham and Preston Brown can be penciled in as starters in Rex Ryan's 3-4, and behind them are unproven the Ty Powell, Randell Johnson, and Jimmy Gaines. Spikes would be an upgrade over those three, and he could be brought back if the price is right.
