NFL | Victor Cruz probably done, says scout Mon Feb 13, 11:50 PM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) is 'probably done,' according to one NFL scout.
|Footballguys view: Cruz may get signed by some team in need of veteran depth, but he's likely to be signing a "prove it" deal no matter where he lands. Once Cruz finds a new team, there's no guarantee he'll make the 53-man roster. Evaluators may think he's "probably done" and they're probably right.|

Raiders | Lee Smith will be ready for workouts Mon Feb 13, 08:20 PM
Oakland Raiders TE Lee Smith (ankle) will be ready for the offseason workouts after missing most of the season because of a broken ankle.
|Footballguys view: Smith is a big-bodied blocker, but he offers little as a receiver. The Raiders have a high-powered offense, but they've been putting up points without a consistent presence at tight end. In this fantastic tight end class, we should see them select one in the 2017 NFL draft.|

Colts | Zachariah Kerr expected to get tender Mon Feb 13, 07:28 PM
Indianapolis Colts restricted free-agent DT Zachariah Kerr is expected to receive a tender offer this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Signed out of Delaware as an undrafted free agent in 2014, Kerr is a run stuffer in the middle of the line. He appeared in 12 games this year for the Colts, posting 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks.|

Colts | Arthur Jones could be cut Mon Feb 13, 07:15 PM
Indianapolis Colts DE Arthur Jones could be released this offseason because he is scheduled to make $6.25 million in 2017 and has struggled with injuries over the last few years.
|Footballguys view: Jones was placed on Injured Reserve in December of 2016 due to a groin injury. In 15 games, Jones had 15 tackles and 15 assists in 2016. During his two seasons with the Colts, Jones has appeared in just 17 games due to injury and suspension. Even with back-to-back disappointing seasons, Jones should have a couple of teams interested in him on the open market.|

Chargers | Jason Verrett's option should be exercised Mon Feb 13, 06:59 PM
Los Angeles Chargers CB Jason Verrett likely will have his fifth-year option exercised this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Verrett has yet to play a full 16-game season since the team selected him in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. He appeared in four games last year, and his season was cut short due to a knee injury that required surgery (left ACL). When healthy, Verrett has the ability to shut down some of the best receivers in the game.|

Patriots | Martellus Bennett may not re-sign Mon Feb 13, 06:39 PM
The New England Patriots are interested in re-signing impending free-agent TE Martellus Bennett but may not be willing to get into a bidding war for him if other teams are interested, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.
|Footballguys view: The Patriots have $61 million in cap space this offseason, the fifth-most in the NFL. They've got the money to keep Bennett, but the team does not make a habit of overpaying for talent. It's a fantastic draft class at tight end, so they could let Bennett go and try to add a player at the position in the draft.|

Browns | Cleveland to talk with Terrelle Pryor Mon Feb 13, 06:34 PM
The Cleveland Browns are scheduled to talk with the agent for impending free-agent WR Terrelle Pryor this week.
|Footballguys view: All signs point to Cleveland finding a way to keep Pryor around. With the most cap space in the league ($106 million), the Browns shouldn't have any problem affording a fair contract for Pryor. He wants to remain in Cleveland, and the team could put the franchise tag on him if they don't get a long-term deal worked out.|

Giants | NYG will look to re-sign Jason Pierre-Paul Mon Feb 13, 06:31 PM
The New York Giants are expected to try to re-sign impending free-agent DE Jason Pierre-Paul before the start of free agency.
|Footballguys view: Pierre-Paul has stated that he's not going to play on another "prove it" deal like he did in 2016. He's still capable of being a high quality player, and the Giants should work diligently to keep him. At this time, they have just a little over $31 million to sign free agents with this offseason.|

Jets | Ryan Clady may be cut this week Mon Feb 13, 06:30 PM
New York Jets OT Ryan Clady could be released by Wednesday, Feb. 15, because he is scheduled to receive a $1 million roster bonus this week.
|Footballguys view: In his first season with the Jets, Clady made it through only nine games before a rotator cuff injury ended his year. Clady could remain on the roster if he agrees to restructure his contract.|
Ravens | Baltimore made offer to Ricky Wagner Mon Feb 13, 06:06 PM
Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent OT Ricky Wagner received a contract offer from the Ravens, but he declined the offer. Wagner is one of the free agents the Ravens would like to re-sign.
|Footballguys view: Wagner had a bounce back season in 2016 after a poor performance in 2015. He's expected to get a deal in range of what Mitchell Schwartz (five-year, $33 million) got from the Chiefs last offseason.|
Steelers | Pittsburgh talking with Lawrence Timmons Mon Feb 13, 06:05 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent LB Lawrence Timmons started contract talks with the Steelers Monday, Feb. 13.

Cardinals | Arizona wants long-term quarterback Mon Feb 13, 04:53 PM
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer is returning for a 14th NFL season, but general manager Steve Keim admits that he wants to find a quarterback for the Cardinals long-term future. 'You're not a GM for long if you don't find [a quarterback],' Keim said. 'I have to do a better job with my staff and the coaching staff, we have to identify the right guy and put this organization in position to have success for years to come.
|Footballguys view: Keim is right, and the Cardinals need to find a quarterback of the future ASAP. Palmer doesn't have much time left, and his effectiveness as a starter has been waning in recent years. This isn't a great class for quarterbacks, but the Cardinals may select a player at the position in the 2017 NFL draft.|

Raiders | Latavius Murray may not return Mon Feb 13, 04:35 PM
Oakland Raiders impending free-agent RB Latavius Murray is not expected to be re-signed, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.
|Footballguys view: The Raiders have two change-of-pace backs on the roster in DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard, so we're expecting them to pick up a power back in the 2017 NFL draft. Murray has a good all-around skill set, and there should be a few teams interested in his services.|

Giants | Larry Donnell won't be re-signed Mon Feb 13, 04:22 PM
New York Giants impending free-agent TE Larry Donnell will not be re-signed and will enter the free-agent market.
|Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. The team had already moved on from Donnell, and he lost his starting job to Will Tye in 2016. He'll find a lukewarm market for his services.|

Giants | Rashad Jennings let go Mon Feb 13, 02:11 PM
New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings was released Monday, Feb. 13. Jennings would have counted over $3 million against the salary cap. The release will save the Giants $2.5 million.
|Footballguys view: Jennings is a good all-purpose back who could help a team looking for veteran depth. He made it through 13 games in 2016, compiling 593 rushing yards, 201 receiving yards and four touchdowns.|

Giants | Victor Cruz to be cut Mon Feb 13, 12:48 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz will be released Monday, Feb. 13, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: This was a no-brainer decision for the Giants. Cruz counted $9.4 million against the cap, and releasing him frees up $7.5 million in cap space. Cruz played in 15 games in 2016, collecting 39 passes for 586 yards and one touchdown. He should get a bit of interest on the open market.|

NFL | Reuben Foster having shoulder surgery Mon Feb 13, 11:56 AM
Alabama LB Reuben Foster (shoulder) will not participate in the NFL Scouting Combine due to surgery on his right rotator cuff, according to a source. Foster is expected to recover in four months and be ready for training camp. Foster is the top-graded inside linebacker for many teams in the 2017 NFL draft.
|Footballguys view: Foster may be the best inside linebacker in the 2017 NFL draft. He arrives at the ball-carrier with natural violence and has the ability to cover in space. Even with this shoulder surgery, Foster should be a top-15 pick.|
Chiefs | De'Anthony Thomas likely gone Mon Feb 13, 10:42 AM
Kansas City Chiefs WR De'Anthony Thomas is likely to be traded or released with the emergence of WR Tyreek Hill in the roles Thomas was drafted for, in the opinion of beat writer Adam Teicher.
|Footballguys view: Thomas has not played up to his potential, and the Chiefs will wisely move on. A fourth-round pick in 2014, Thomas has only 48 career catches in three seasons as a part-time player.|

Rams | Kenny Britt likely to walk Mon Feb 13, 10:33 AM
Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent WR Kenny Britt is likely to sign elsewhere in free agency, in the opinion of beat writer Alden Gonzalez.
|Footballguys view: The Rams are likely to move in a different direction at wide receiver, and all of the "Jeff Fisher guys" (like Britt) could be shown the door. Coming off the first 1,000-yard season of his career, Britt should have more than a few potential suitors.|

NFL | Matt Schaub wants to start Mon Feb 13, 10:32 AM
Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent QB Matt Schaub wants to find a team with a chance to start in 2017.
|Footballguys view: Good luck with that. Now, there is buzz building about Schaub potentially following Kyle Shanahan to the 49ers where he could start. Schaub knows the Shanahan system, and the 49ers could then take their time finding a franchise quarterback. Stay tuned.|

Titans | Injury won't slow Marcus Mariota Sun Feb 12, 09:03 PM
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) is going to be fine following surgery to repair a fractured fibula, according to Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles, who had the same surgery in 2006. 'So Marcus is going to be good to go,' Sproles said. 'He'll probably be better than ever.'
|Footballguys view: Mariota finished 2016 as the no. 13 fantasy quarterback in standard-scoring leagues. That makes him a QB2 with great upside heading into 2017. The team should add more weapons around Mariota this offseason, and he's likely to be near full strength by Week 1.|

Redskins | Niles Paul on the mend Sun Feb 12, 08:19 PM
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (shoulder) described his progression from shoulder surgery as 'crazy', and he said he is focusing on being physically and mentally healthy for 2017 after two years of injuries.
|Footballguys view: There's no guarantee that Paul will return in 2017 with a cap hit of $1.75 million. He flashed in 2014 with 39 catches for 507 yards, but since then he's missed all of 2015 and eight games in 2016. If healthy...finally...Paul would provide depth behind Jordan Reed. The team is likely to bring Vernon Davis back as he's set to hit the open market.|

Buccaneers | Record season for Cameron Brate Sun Feb 12, 08:03 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Cameron Brate tied the single-season franchise record for touchdown receptions by a tight end with eight in 2016.
|Footballguys view: When QB Jameis Winston was in college at Florida State, he targeted the tight end position more than any other passer in the FBS. His love of throwing to the tight end has continued to the pros. Brate finished as the no. 6 overall tight end for fantasy owners in standard-scoring leagues. If healthy, he's a TE1 in 2017.|

NFL | Alvin Kamara gaining attention Sun Feb 12, 07:46 PM
Tennessee RB Alvin Kamara was compared to retired RB Arian Foster by Charles Davis of the NFL Network, and Davis believes all 32 NFL teams will have a first-round grade on Kamara.
|Footballguys view: Originally a five-star high school recruit for Alabama, injuries and off-field issues caused Kamara to bounce to Hutchinson Community College then to Tennessee. A sprained left knee in 2016 limited Kamara to 596 yards in his final season for the Volunteers. If healthy, Kamara is a three-down runner who runs with power and has a nose for the end zone. He's likely to go off the board in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft.|
Browns | Myles Garrett clears the air Sun Feb 12, 07:30 PM
Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett said the video he made asking the Dallas Cowboys to trade up to select him with the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft was a joke, and he added that he would have 'no problem' playing for the Cleveland Browns.
|Footballguys view: Garrett may have been joking, but there's likely some truth to what he was saying. The Cowboys could use a devastating pass rusher like Garrett, but they're sitting all the way back in the first round with the 28th overall pick. Garrett is the best player in this draft class, and he's virtually a lock to be the first selection. That's a pick the Browns currently own.|
Eagles | DeSean Jackson headed back to Philly? Sun Feb 12, 07:23 PM
Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR DeSean Jackson's potential return to the Philadelphia Eagles is talked about as a 'certainty' by several teams, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
|Footballguys view: The writing has been on the wall here for quite some time. Jackson is likely to move on from Washington in free agency, and going back to the Eagles could be his destination. The Eagles need more weapons around young QB Carson Wentz, and Jackson still has the speed to get by defenders in a hurry.|

Falcons | Atlanta wants to keep roster intact Sun Feb 12, 07:10 PM
Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the 'main focus' this offseason will be re-signing their own free agents. NFL | Patrick Mahomes a top three pick? Sun Feb 12, 06:13 PM
Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes could be a top-three pick in the 2017 NFL draft depending on what the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears do at quarterback this offseason, in the opinion of CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora.
|Footballguys view: Mahomes has been a fast riser here early in the draft process. Similar to Carson Wentz last year, we could see Mahomes go from a "yeah, probably first-round pick" to a top-10 selection by the time the draft rolls around. Mahomes reminds many in the scouting community of Derek Carr (Raiders).|
Steelers | PIT can save cap space if Ladarius Green cut Sun Feb 12, 06:13 PM
The Pittsburgh Steelers could save $5 million in salary cap space if they released TE Ladarius Green (concussion) with a post-June 1 designation.
|Footballguys view: Green wasn't healthy in 2016, and was limited to only six games in his first season with the Steelers. He was effective in a couple of those games, and Green showed the ability to be a dangerous weapon within the offense. Green was rumored to be considering retirement before ever playing a down in Pittsburgh, and those rumors might fire up again this offseason.|

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles expected to be released Sun Feb 12, 05:55 PM
Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles is expected to be released this offseason in order for the team to create salary cap space.
|Footballguys view: Charles has a $6.1 million cap number in 2017, and there's no dead money remaining on his contract. The Chiefs have only $4 million in cap space, and they want to sign both DT Dontari Poe and S Eric Berry to long-term deals. Releasing Charles is a virtual lock.|

Packers | One-year deal in Eddie Lacy's future? Sun Feb 12, 01:45 PM
Impending free-agent RB Eddie Lacy is expected to get a one-year deal worth about $2 million was plenty of incentives in free agency this offseason, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette's Pete Dougherty.
|Footballguys view: Lacy is likely to sign a "prove it" deal this offseason. He began his pro career with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons after the Packers took him in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. He's rushed for around 1,000 yards combined over the last two seasons and missed 11 games in 2016 due to injury. Durability problems and weight issues will give any team pause when considering the big back in free agency.|

Patriots | Malcolm Butler staying put Sun Feb 12, 01:41 PM
New England Patriots restricted free agent CB Malcolm Butler 'won't be going anywhere' this offseason as the team plans to place a first-round tender on him, according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin.
|Footballguys view: That tender would pay Butler around $4 million in 2017. Other teams could offer Butler a contract, but the Patriots would have the right of refusal. They've got the third most cap space in the NFL, and the Patriots should work to get Butler signed to an agreement that keeps him on the team past just this year.|

Patriots | Jimmy Garoppolo to fetch Day 2 draft pick? Sun Feb 12, 01:29 PM
New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to attract a second-round selection from interested teams this offseason, according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin.
|Footballguys view: Would that be enough for the Patriots to let him go? Garoppolo was a second-round pick of the Patriots in 2014, and he hits free agency in 2018. The Patriots want to get something for him before they lose him and get nothing next offseason. It seems like the Browns may be the most interested, but the Bears and 49ers might want in on Garoppolo as well.|
