San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (ankle) did not practice Tuesday, Dec. 16.

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (collarbone) suffered a broken collarbone in Week 15 and is not expected to play this week.

Jaguars | OC thinks Blake Bortles will play    Tue Dec 16, 01:42 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (foot) is expected to play in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans Thursday, Dec. 18, according to offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. Even though Bortles didn't practice Monday, Dec. 15, Fisch is preparing as though Bortles will start Thursday. "As far as I know, it's going to be Blake," Fisch said. The Jaguars will play it by ear and see how much Bortles does in practice these next few days.

Footballguys view: Yeah, we'll just have to wait and see. Nobody wants to see Chad Henne start at quarterback....Jaguars vs Titans is bad enough already.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) has a good chance to play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts despite having surgery on a broken left hand, according to owner Jerry Jones.

Footballguys view: Alright Jerry, whatever you say. Let's see what the team doctors have to see before Week 16. Jones thinks RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar can carry the load efficiently if Murray has to sit. Jones also added that Murray won't need to practice this week in order to play.

Cooper has started the last two games in place of OG Paul Fanaika (ankle), who is expected to be available in Week 16. Arizona Cardinals QB Ryan Lindley enters the Week 16 game against the Seattle Seahawks with 181 pass attempts without a touchdown, which is the most in NFL history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Seahawks have allowed only two passing TDs and have intercepted four passes in their last five games. The San Francisco 49ers signed LB Desmond Bishop (Cardinals) Tuesday, Dec. 16. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (foot) is out of the walking boot on his mid-foot sprain Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray with early optimism    Tue Dec 16, 08:51 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) could play in Week 16, in the opinion of beat writer Bryan Broaddus. At least, that is the team's early thinking.

Footballguys view: This early optimism is a good sign for Murray's availability. Don't get too excited, but let's keep monitoring his progress as the week of practice goes on.

Redskins | Jay Gruden's job safe?    Tue Dec 16, 05:49 AM

Although the Washington Redskins haven't confirmed the news, sources have said coach Jay Gruden will be retained as coach for the 2015 season.

Footballguys view: That's the buzz now, but that could change quickly. If Gruden sticks around in Washington it seems like he'd have to smooth things over with Robert Griffin III. It looked like this was going to come down to another "him or me" situation like it did with Mike Shanahan.

NFL | Jon Gruden to stay at ESPN    Tue Dec 16, 05:35 AM

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden has signed a new contract with ESPN that will keep him in the broadcast booth through 2021. It will not prevent him from seeking coaching jobs in future seasons, but the deal effectively takes him off the table for this season's vacancies.

Footballguys view: Teams wanting to lure Gruden away so he could be their head coach are now disappointed. We're excited to get to see Gruden talk and scowl on Monday Night Football.

NCAA | Gerod Holliman turning pro    Tue Dec 16, 04:48 AM

Louisville DB Gerod Holliman announced his declaration for the 2015 NFL Draft on Monday, Dec. 15. Holliman recently won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back.

Footballguys view: Holliman reminds some in the scouting community of former Ravens safety Ed Reed. The third-year sophomore has fantastic instincts and is always around the ball. He's a ballhawk in the secondary, and Holliman is dangerous in the open field once he picks off the pass.

Steelers | Roethlisberger, OC clicking    Mon Dec 15, 07:20 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and offensive coordinator Todd Haley are working very well together this season. With the game on the line late in the fourth quarter in Week 15 against the Atlanta Falcons, Haley gave Roethlisberger the freedom to decide between two different plays. The fact that Haley didn't insist on a run with just one yard to gain shows how well the relationship between the coordinator and QB is going.

Footballguys view: Giving Roethlisberger freedom to run the offense has benefited the Steelers greatly. Haley is taking more of a backseat on game day, and it's helped the team thrive on offense. Roethlisberger was 12-for-14 for 191 yards on plays in which the Falcons rushed at least five defenders, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
