Falcons | Calvin Ridley inks deal Wed Jul 4, 01:14 PM
Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley signed his four-year rookie contract Wednesday, July 4. As is the case with every first-round pick he will have team option for a fifth year. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Ridley has crazy ability, but with Julio Jones across the field from him his Target amount should be limited. That said Jones will also draw the bulk of the attention, so Ridley will have room to work with. All that being said, we wouldn't recommend pulling the trigger on him earlier than his current ADP as 51st receiver off the board. He has some nice upside, but it can be dangerous to rely on rookie wide receivers.|
Patriots | Adrian Clayborn a full go Wed Jul 4, 12:52 PM
New England Patriots DE Adrian Clayborn (quadriceps) was a full participant in mandatory mini-camp in June. He turned heads at camp and generally beat tackles at the point of attack.Link to story

Patriots | Cordarrelle Patterson could see more snaps Wed Jul 4, 08:05 AM
New England Patriots WR Cordarrelle Patterson is a wild card to see more snaps in WR Julian Edelman's four-game absence.
|Footballguys view: Route running and attention to detail has always been Patterson's downfall. We're not sure we trust that to be Different this time out. As a late-round flyer, he has value. But it's too early to feel confident about him.|

Patriots | Malcolm Mitchell poised for more snaps Wed Jul 4, 08:05 AM

Patriots | Julian Edelman's suspension upheld Tue Jul 3, 07:20 PM
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman's appeal to his four-game suspension was denied Tuesday, July 3. He will officially serve the suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
|Footballguys view: Whatever Edelman tested positive for was reportedly a substance that wasn't immediate recognizable, but that and whatever else Edelman's team presented in his defense didn't get the suspension reduced. He'll miss games against Houston, Jacksonville, Detroit, and Miami. Chris Hogan could get more targets, but also more attention from defenses. Jordan Matthews has a shot to get his time in New England off on the right foot as the slot receiver in place of Edelman, but there will be a stiff competition for roster spots at wide receiver even with Edelman giving up an extra one for four weeks.|

Packers | Aaron Jones another suspension victim Tue Jul 3, 04:07 PM
Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones has been suspended for the first two games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
|Footballguys view: The Packers backfield could get even more complicated with this development, but it could also be clarified if Jamaal Williams has a strong first two games in Jones' absence. Williams was the better all-around back last year, but Jones was the better runner. The Packers could go full RBBC with Ty Montgomery in the mix. Williams ADP could uptick ahead of Jones on this news, making Jones a better value. Green Bay opens with the solid Bears run defense and smothering Vikings run defense, so Williams might have to score or pile up receptions to have a strong first two games of the season.|

Rams | Jamon Brown suspended Tue Jul 3, 03:40 PM
Los Angeles Rams OG Jamon Brown has been suspended without pay for the first two games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
|Footballguys view: Brown had a very good and the Rams don't have quality depth behind him. Austin Blythe is the top candidate to replace him. The Rams open with Oakland and Arizona, defenses not known for the quality of their interior linemen, so the Rams might have caught a schedule break.|
49ers | Reuben Foster suspended Tue Jul 3, 03:07 PM
San Francisco 49ers LB Reuben Foster has been suspended for the first two games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct and substance-abuse policies.
|Footballguys view: It appeared Foster was facing a much longer suspension, if not a release after a domestic violence incident and drug possession arrest this offseason. The domestic violence charges were recanted, so Foster got a relatively light punishment from the league. He'll miss games against Minnesota and Detroit. Third-round pick Fred Warner is a strong candidate to fill in for Foster.|

Texans | Houston to spread the wealth at tight end Tue Jul 3, 12:33 PM
Houston Texans TE Ryan Griffin will be relied on heavily in 2018, but tight ends coach Tim Kelly believes replacing the retired C.J. Fiedorowicz will be a collective effort. Griffin, Stephen Anderson, Jordan Akins and Jordan Thomas will all vie for snaps during training camp.
|Footballguys view: Anderson is a move tight end and the best suited for fantasy production. Griffin has a longer tenure with the team, but like Fiedorowicz, has had concussion problems. Akins has the best straight line speed, and Thomas the overwhelming size. If there is going to be a third option in the passing game that is fantasy relevant, it is likely to be rookie wide receiver Keke Coutee.|

Cardinals | Patrick Peterson in line for more picks? Tue Jul 3, 09:54 AM
Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson thinks the new defensive scheme will allow him more chances at interceptions. '(I'm) very excited, 'cause I'm gonna be doing a lot of new things that I haven't done in my NFL career,' Peterson said. 'I'm just looking forward to getting back to my play-making ways because I believe over the last two-and-a-half, three years, I've been kind of handcuffed in doing that, because obviously teams try to stay away from me.'
|Footballguys view: Peterson will play off coverage more and have space to roam. He could be more of a factor in IDP leagues after being a non-factor due to teams rarely testing him.|

Bears | Trey Burton wants to be a leader Tue Jul 3, 04:31 AM
Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton sees himself as someone who can be a leader in his first year with the organization. 'I take a ton of pride in it,' Burton said. 'I'm not much of a vocal guy. I'm more of a one-on-one intimate type of communicator. I was a quarterback in high school. I had a great quarterbacks coach who taught me how to be a leader and how all the eyes are on you. Ever since then, I kind of ran with it.'
|Footballguys view: Burton is also very familiar with the offense coming from the Reid/Pederson tree in Philadelphia. The Bears have a young offense and need someone to be a veteran presence. Burton is in the low TE1 mix in early drafts.|

Chargers | LA Chargers or bust for Antonio Gates? Mon Jul 2, 10:37 PM
Los Angeles Chargers special assistant LaDainian Tomlinson told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Monday, July 2, that he believes former teammate and free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) only wants to play for the Chargers.
|Footballguys view: There might not be another team that is heavily interested in him, outside of maybe the Cowboys. He is a receiving tight end who can't separate at this point in his career, but that never stopped Philip Rivers from targeting him. Gates would be a waiver wire watch list candidate if the Chargers sign him.|

Cardinals | Josh Rosen leaves impression on Pro Bowl CB Mon Jul 2, 10:29 PM
Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen is unlikely to start Week 1 so long as Sam Bradford is healthy and the team can protect him, but CB Patrick Peterson told SiriusXM NFL Radio the rookie signal-caller 'blew his mind' during offseason workouts.
|Footballguys view: Rosen is highly intelligent, and he's paired with the offensive coordinator whose scheme was considered too complex by some (Mike McCoy). The Cardinals could create a quick decision and short/intermediate range passing game to suit his strengths, which would also maximize the value of second-round pick Christian Kirk.|
Broncos | Tom Heckert Jr. leaves team Mon Jul 2, 09:41 PM
Denver Broncos senior personnel advisor Tom Heckert Jr. announced Monday July 2, that he will step away from his current role in order to focus on his health.
|Footballguys view: The former Eagles and Browns general manager was the director of pro personnel for the Broncos 2015 Super Bowl champion. Gary Kubiak will be the lone senior personnel advisor with Heckert's departure.|
Packers | Aaron Jones has added weight Mon Jul 2, 03:14 PM
Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones said he's bigger all around this offseason after spending more time in the weight room. Bulking up was a priority for Jones in an effort to improve his pass blocking and to sustain the wear and tear of the NFL. Neither Jones nor running backs coach Ben Sirmans believe more pounds have slowed down Jones.
|Footballguys view: Jones is still going off early draft boards at 39, so in general this news like news we've seen about Jones before, isn't really moving the needle for Fantasy owners. We are still not sure how the backfield shakes out here, so if you're drafting this early you're going to either have to avoid it or roll the dice and hope whichever guy you get - Jamaal Williams or Jones - is the right pick.|

Cardinals | Elijhaa Penny may be FB Mon Jul 2, 02:34 PM
Arizona Cardinals RB Elijhaa Penny is expected to be more of a fullback in the team's new offensive scheme but could receive some work as a running back.
|Footballguys view: Nobody is taking reps away from David Johnson, so Penny is better off playing fullback because it gives him a better chance to stick on the roster. It can't hurt for Johnson to have an extra Blocker on inside runs either. Johnson is going to be a top fantasy back yet again this year.|
Titans | Marcus Mariota holds workouts Mon Jul 2, 02:03 PM
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota worked out with some of his pass catchers in Nashville this past weekend.
|Footballguys view: Mariota threw more interceptions than touchdowns and regressed in yardage and yardage per attempt totals but a new coaching staff is installing a quicker offense. We think Mariota has a shot to do some good things, but right now he's no more than a mid-range QB two.|

Lions | Teo Redding may have edge for No. 5 WR job Mon Jul 2, 01:56 PM
Detroit Lions WR Teo Redding may have an edge over WR Jace Billingsley for the No. 5 receiver job entering training camp because of his size and versatility.
|Footballguys view: Size and versatility could mean red zone threat but these two are so far down the roster that Redding and Billingsley are kind of irrelevant right now. It's not worth having either in early drafts.|
Jace Billingsley player page
Bears | Mitchell Trubisky talks new offense Mon Jul 2, 01:33 PM
Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky said the team plans to spread the field and use all of their offensive weapons under head coach Matt Nagy.
|Footballguys view: while we like to hear they are using all their weapons, there's not exactly an overabundance of them. That and his inexperience make Trubisky no more than a QB3 as we head into training camp.|

Texans | Zach Cunningham bulks up Mon Jul 2, 01:04 PM

Browns | Sam Beal may be option for CLE Mon Jul 2, 12:34 PM
Western Michigan CB Sam Beal could be an option for the Cleveland Browns in the supplemental draft if they believe he has starting potential, in the opinion of the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot. General manager John Dorsey attended Beal's Pro Day last week.Link to story
Browns | Jeff Janis will need to earn roster spot Mon Jul 2, 12:32 PM
Cleveland Browns WR Jeff Janis will need to be one of the standout performers during training camp if he wants a chance to make the 53-man roster.
|Footballguys view: With Josh Gordon, Jarvis Landry and Corey Coleman all assured spots -- and targets -- there's only so much room and so many scraps for the other eight receivers. Janis has had moments, but he's going to have to be consistent to keep his roster spot. From a fantasy standpoint, there won't be much impact from any of the receivers past Coleman on the depth chart, barring injury or another Gordon suspension.|

Patriots | Jonathan Jones likely will make team Mon Jul 2, 12:10 PM
New England Patriots CB Jonathan Jones likely will make the 53-man roster as long as he is healthy because of his special teams plays, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.
|Footballguys view: The team also needs some corner help. But we know how much the franchise covets versatility, so Jones' special teams ability makes him very attractive.|
Jets | Darron Lee seeing things faster Mon Jul 2, 08:46 AM
New York Jets LB Darron Lee is getting better by seeing things faster, according to linebackers coach Mike Caldwell. He'll be the primary play caller on defense.
|Footballguys view: The Jets are hoping Darron Lee takes a big step forward and along with free agent acquisition Avery Williamson, forms a stout cornerstone for this linebacker corps.|

Titans | Dez Bryant unlikely an option for TEN Sun Jul 1, 06:29 PM
Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) does not appear to be a target for the Tennessee Titans, in the opinion of TitansOnline.com's Jim Wyatt.
|Footballguys view: The Titans have Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor on the rise, and may not want to slow down their growth on the field to add Bryant's questionable value at this point in his career - especially in new offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur's system.|

Redskins | Washington scouts three prospects Sun Jul 1, 06:12 PM
The Washington Redskins attended the Pro Days of Western Michigan CB Sam Beal, Virginia Tech CB Adonis Alexander and Mississippi State S Brandon Bryant.
|Footballguys view: Josh Norman might be reaching the end of his viability at such a high price tag in Washington's eyes, so it makes sense to take a longer look at this group.|
Bengals | Cincy looking at two draft prospects Sun Jul 1, 06:10 PM
The Cincinnati Bengals have scouted Western Michigan CB Sam Beal and Virginia Tech CB Adonis Alexander leading up to the supplemental draft.
|Footballguys view: Beal could go as high as the third round and Alexander has the length some teams covet at corner. Cincinnati has done a good job restocking their secondary through the draft, but at a high cost, three first-round picks in recent years, and this duo will come a supplemental draft discount.|
Bengals | Darqueze Dennard not worried about contract Sun Jul 1, 06:09 PM
Cincinnati Bengals CB Darqueze Dennard said he is focusing on playing football and is not worried about entering the final year of his current contract.
|Footballguys view: The Bengals have William Jackson and Dre Kirkpatrick outside, so Dennard could find more money elsewhere. He'll hold down the slot for Cincinnati in their underrated defense.|

Jets | Devin Smith, Charone Peake on the bubble Sun Jul 1, 03:56 PM
New York Jets WRs Devin Smith and Charone Peake appear to be facing long odds to make the final roster, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com.

Jets | Thomas Rawls' roster status in question Sun Jul 1, 03:41 PM
New York Jets RB Thomas Rawls is not a lock to make the final roster, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com.
|Footballguys view: The Jets have a trio of backs they like in free agent pickup Isaiah Crowell, Bilal Powell, and Elijah McGuire, and they also drafted Trenton Cannon in the sixth round. Cannon can return kicks and that means Rawls will have to show he can recapture his rookie form to win a roster spot. He has no guaranteed money on his one year, 705,000 dollar contract.|

Lions | Frank Ragnow likely to play left guard Sun Jul 1, 09:16 AM
Detroit Lions OG/C Frank Ragnow appears likely to be the team's starting left guard, although he is still capable of playing center, according to Nate Atkins of MLive.com.
|Footballguys view: The Lions offensive line should be improved this year with the return of a fully healthy Taylor Decker and addition of Ragnow. The running game in particular will get a lift, which makes LeGarrette Blount and Kerryon Johnson worth more consideration in drafts.|
Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes gaining support Sun Jul 1, 12:17 AM
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is a 'complete player,' according to free-agent LB Tamba Hali (Chiefs). 'He can throw the ball,' Hali said. 'Athletically, he's gifted. You don't have to coach it. In practice, I'd watch him just look guys off.'
|Footballguys view: The Chiefs offense lost Alex Smith, but it's possible that Mahomes actually increases the deep ball production despite Smith breaking through as a downfield passer last year. Mahomes has more upside than his current ranking indicates, and he could increase the productivity of the entire Chiefs offense, although he comes with the risk of inexperience.|

Chargers | Derwin James showing upside Sat Jun 30, 11:41 PM
Los Angeles Chargers SS Derwin James has had an 'outstanding spring,' according to head coach Anthony Lynn.
|Footballguys view: The Chargers had James fall into their laps, as his versatility should be easy to take advantage of with their strong set of corners and edge rushers. He should have as many big plays as any defensive rookie and should be a target late in IDP redraft leagues.|
Rams | Mark Barron to return during camp Sat Jun 30, 10:13 PM
Los Angeles Rams LB Mark Barron (shoulder) will return to the field at some point during training camp, according to head coach Sean McVay.
|Footballguys view: The Rams have a hole at inside linebacker beside Barron after they traded Alec Ogletree to the Giants earlier in the offseason. Barron's health will be important, although the Rams ILBs jobs will be made easier by the best defensive line in the league playing in front of them.|

Baltimore Ravens WR Tim White remains the lead candidate to be the starting kick and punt returner in 2018, according to special teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg.
