Dolphins | Adam Jones, Reggie Nelson may be targets    Sat Jan 30, 11:22 AM

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent CB Adam Jones and FS Reggie Nelson could receive interest from the Miami Dolphins this offseason since defensive coordinator Vance Joseph worked with them when he was part of the Bengals.

Footballguys view: We're expecting the Dolphins to be much improved on both sides of the ball. However, they're going to have to get creative with salaries if they want to even be a little bit active in free agency. As of right now (according to, the Dolphins only have $2.6 million in cap space. That number will change with player cuts and potential contract restructures.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson sets lofty goals    Sat Jan 30, 12:45 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson said expectations for the offense are high for 2016, and he added that he wants to improve on his numbers from 2015.

Footballguys view: Those goals have to be through the roof. Robinson had 1,400 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in 2015 as the Jaguars primary receiver. That made him the 4th-best fantasy WR in standard-scoring leagues.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers had knee surgery    Sat Jan 30, 12:09 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (knee) had knee surgery following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional round of the playoffs, but he said he is 'doing well' and 'recovering on schedule.'

Footballguys view: This procedure was described as a minor clean up of an old injury. Rodgers should be fine for training camp, but don't be surprised if the team limits him in OTAs and minicamp as he continues to recover.

Falcons | No decision yet on Roddy White    Fri Jan 29, 09:47 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White's future with the team has not yet been decided, according to general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

Footballguys view: White is looking at a likely pay cut if he's even going to make the team. He's got a $4.25 million cap number in 2016, and White has previously stated that he is unwilling to take a pay cut. He's not the same player he used to be, and we'd be shocked if they kept White on the roster with his current price tag.

Cowboys | Tony Romo to lead familiar offense    Fri Jan 29, 09:34 PM

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said he doesn't expect any major changes in the offensive philosophy in 2016, and he added that he expects QB Tony Romo back and ready to go for the start of the season.

Footballguys view: Romo should be ready to go in 2016, and fantasy owners should consider him a low-end QB1 with injury risk. His propensity to get injured is the reason why we think the Cowboys will look to add a better backup QB through the draft or free agency.

Rams | Case Keenum staying put    Fri Jan 29, 09:26 PM

Los Angeles Rams impending restricted free-agent QB Case Keenum is going to be back with the team in 2016, according to general manager Les Snead. 'We're not going to let him go somewhere else,' Snead said.

Footballguys view: Keenum gives them veteran depth at the position behind starter Nick Foles. We could see 2016 as a make-or-break year for Foles, and if he struggles the team may turn the offense over to Keenum for a bit.

Jets | Chris Ivory wants to stay with Jets    Fri Jan 29, 08:05 PM

New York Jets impending free-agent RB Chris Ivory said he would like to re-sign with the Jets but is not sure if the team will have the salary cap space to bring him back.

Footballguys view: At this time, (according to the Jets have $10 million in cap space in 2016. That's not much, so expect the team to re-work some deals or cut certain players to clear some cap space. Ivory is going to face a free agent market chock full of good running backs. We have a feeling the Jets will be able to work something out with him.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick could reclaim starting gig    Fri Jan 29, 07:29 PM

San Francisco 49ers chief executive officer Jed York can see QB Colin Kaepernick winning his starting job back in 2016 if he is healthy. 'There's no question in my mind,' York replied. 'I've always had a very, very high opinion of Kap. Kap's a great kid, he's done a lot of great things for us. And again, this is a fresh start for everybody.'

Footballguys view: Kaepernick has the athleticism to fit into Chip Kelly's system. However, he needs to prove that he can make quick decisions and accurate throws as a passer in order to flourish. The Kelly system is somewhat simple, and mainly uses tempo as a weapon. They'll leave a defender unblocked opposite play side, and that's where Kaepernick's athleticism should be able to freeze that player on the edge. If Kaepernick doesn't throw accurately, then teams will respect his rushing ability less and try to force a quick throw.

NFL | Carson Wentz has met with four teams    Fri Jan 29, 06:58 PM

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz has met with the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: This just in; all teams at the Senior Bowl will show interest in Wentz. A potential top-5 pick, Wentz showed well during this first stop in the pre-draft process. A team like the Cowboys may be willing to move up to no.1 overall in order to secure Wentz in the draft. The Titans currently hold the first pick, but they've already proclaimed that pick is up for grabs if the price is right.

NFL | Braxton Miller meets with seven teams    Fri Jan 29, 06:54 PM

Ohio State WR Braxton Miller has met with the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets.

Footballguys view: All teams meet with the top prospects at the Senior Bowl. Scouts go up to players after practice each day, but there are scheduled meetings at the team hotel where most inquiries are done. Miller showed well against off coverage this week at the Senior Bowl. However, he needs to learn how to better play against press coverage and he needs to play with better composure when covered closely.

S Josh Bush (shoulder), LB Todd Davis (shoulder), CB Chris Harris Jr. (shoulder), S Shiloh Keo (quadriceps), LB Brandon M.   Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has years left    Fri Jan 29, 05:45 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has not shown any decline in his play and is expected to play several more seasons, according to team president Art Rooney II. Rooney said the team is not looking to start grooming their next starting quarterback at this point.

Footballguys view: We're a year or two away from any sort of "quarterback of the future" being added by the Steelers...maybe even longer. So long as Roethlisberger is healthy-ish, he can be a quality starter. The Steelers can go far with Roethlisberger, and they were only stunted this year in the postseason due to injuries (Antonio Brown, DeAngelo Williams to name two) at other positions.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant has room to grow    Fri Jan 29, 04:42 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has the chance to become a better player but needs to avoid any off-field problems this offseason, according to team president Art Rooney II. Rooney said the team hopes Bryant's four-game suspension to start the 2015 season will have an impact on him.

Footballguys view: Bryant has amazing natural talent, but he needs to stay out of trouble off the field and be more consistent on the field. We'll see if he can continue to flourish and grow as a player in 2016. He ranked as the 32nd-highest fantasy WR this year in standard scoring, but Bryant has the ability to be a top-15 player if he plays up to his potential.

Broncos | Peyton Manning struggles with picks    Fri Jan 29, 03:08 PM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning as thrown an interception on 5.1% of his pass attempts this season, which is a career high for him and the most among qualified quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: Manning has struggled with picks this season, but since coming back from his plantar fascia injury Manning has recorded zero interceptions in two games. He's only throwing with 55.1 percent accuracy in the postseason, but Manning has yet to throw it to the other team in the playoffs.

Cowboys | Carson Wentz meets with Dallas    Fri Jan 29, 02:41 PM

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz met with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones after Senior Bowl practice Wednesday, Jan. 27. The Cowboys have the fourth overall draft pick this year, and there is speculation that Dallas could move up to No. 1 overall to take a quarterback.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys coaching staff is actually coaching Wentz during the Senior Bowl as they are in charge of the North Team. They'll get hands-on analysis of what kind of pro QB that Wentz could be. We love Wentz's ability to throw on the run, get rid of the ball quickly and keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. The Cowboys have Tony Romo as the starter, but he's been hurt too often in recent years. They need a better backup plan and a developmental quarterback of the future. That could be Wentz.

Browns | Carson Wentz worthy of No. 2 pick?    Fri Jan 29, 01:43 PM

A top NFL personnel executive suggested this week that the Cleveland Browns should take North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick.

Footballguys view: The interest in Wentz from the Browns is real. They need a new quarterback after the failed Johnny Manziel experiment, and Wentz may be the best QB in the 2016 NFL draft. Wentz impressed on film with good size, athleticism and arm strength. He's done a good job of continuing to impress during the week of practice for the 2016 Reese's Senior Bowl this week too.

Panthers | Friday Panthers report    Fri Jan 29, 01:16 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown (ankle), DT Dwan Edwards (non-injury) and CB Robert McClain (ankle) practiced fully Friday, Jan. 29, and are probable for the Super Bowl.   Buccaneers | Mike Evans led league in drops in 2015    Fri Jan 29, 01:12 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers new offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Todd Monken stated in his introductory news conference that is top priority will be to coach the team's receivers. His top priority will be finding a way to cut down on WR Mike Evans' league-leading 11 drops.

Footballguys view: Evans had a disappointing season in 2015. Not only did he drop too many passes, Evans struggled to create separation or make many big plays. We have a good feeling that Evans will bounce back in a big way in 2016.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce lands $46 million    Fri Jan 29, 01:09 PM

Updating an earlier report, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce agreed to five-year, $46 million extension Friday, Jan. 29, with $20.5 million guaranteed. He's the second-highest paid tight end in the league.

Footballguys view: Kelce is now the second-highest paid tight end in the NFL behind only Jimmy Graham (Seahawks). We still have yet to see the best from Kelce in the NFL. He's finished as the 7th- and 8th-best fantasy tight end his first two years in the league, but he's got the ability to at least to a top-5 player someday.

NFL | Braxton Miller displayed moves    Fri Jan 29, 12:49 PM

Ohio State WR Braxton Miller (calf) helped his draft stock at the Senior Bowl before a calf cramp ended his practice early Thursday, Jan. 28. Miller showed quick moves and juked opposing cornerbacks often. He gained separation on nearly every route he ran and showed great hands.

Footballguys view: Miller has looked good as a route-runner, but he needs to learn how to play better against tight coverage. He also should play with a bit more composure. Twice in Thursday's practice, Miller got a little hyper with the corner who was covering him and the two had to be split up.

NFL | Carson Wentz rising up draft boards    Fri Jan 29, 12:44 PM

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz impressed NFL scouts at the Senior Bowl and could surpass California QB Jared Goff as the first quarterback taken in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: We wouldn't be shocked to see Wentz go off the board with a top-5 pick. He's big, athletic and has a strong arm. Wentz has had a good week of practice at the Senior Bowl, and he's making a positive impression during interviews as well.

NFL | Connor Cook unpopular with teammates    Fri Jan 29, 12:41 PM

Michigan State QB Connor Cook was disliked by his college teammates, and NFL teams will examine his attitude in pre-draft interviews. Cook, who had first-round merit, may fall to the second round in the 2016 NFL Draft. He wasn't named a team captain his senior year, and pulling out of the Senior Bowl didn't help his cause.

Footballguys view: Cook likely hurt his draft stock by not attending the Senior Bowl this week. There are four QBs who may be first-round picks this year, and Cook is one of them. Cook's teammates may not have liked him as he was never voted a team captain during his time at Michigan State. There are also rumors swirling around off-field problems for Cook which could give teams further pause when considering him in the draft.

Buccaneers | Vincent Jackson returning    Fri Jan 29, 12:27 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson will return to the team in 2016. The Buccaneers were 4-4 with him and 2-6 without him in the lineup in 2015.

Footballguys view: Jackson has a $9.7 million cap hit next year, and he's set to be a free agent in 2017. The Bucs may ask him to take a pay cut or extend him to lower that number for 2016. However, they could just pay him the full price and see if the veteran can stay healthy in a contract year. Jackson can obviously be a big part of what they do on offense, and his presence helps out young WR Mike Evans.

Browns | Cleveland met with Carson Wentz    Fri Jan 29, 12:06 PM

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson met with North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz during the Senior Bowl this week, and Wentz said the meeting went well. The Browns may be ready to move on from QB Johnny Manziel this offseason. Jackson said a quarterback must 'represent the organization well,' and he wants 'a guy that can help elevate this football team, not anybody that's going to tear it down.'

Browns | Johnny Manziel situation fixable?    Fri Jan 29, 12:04 PM

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam thinks the situation with QB Johnny Manziel is fixable. However, new head coach Hue Jackson made it clear when he interviewed for the job that he wanted the team to move on from Manziel, according to a source. Haslam has been non-committal about Manziel's future.

Footballguys view: Fixable isn't the word we would use to describe the Browns relationship with Manziel. It's likely best for both sides to move on. Manziel has maturity issues, but on the field he has briefly flashed starter's ability. Perhaps a team like Dallas would be interested in grooming Manziel to be an eventual starter. Stay tuned.

Panthers | Two Panthers backs ease in    Fri Jan 29, 11:33 AM

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (rest) and RB Mike Tolbert (knee) did little-to-no work at practice Friday, Jan. 29, but RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) returned to practice.

Footballguys view: The duo has some time to rest before things ramp up. Super Bowl 50 features the Panthers going up against a tough Broncos run defense. We're not expecting a ton from either back, and there's a chance that QB Cam Newton could finish the game as the team's leading rusher.

Eagles | Lane Johnson signs new deal    Fri Jan 29, 11:08 AM

Philadelphia Eagles OT Lane Johnson signed a six-year contract through the 2021 season Friday, Jan. 29.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have been spending some money over the last week or so. With tight ends Brent Celek and Zach Ertz wrapped up, the Eagles moved on to get Johnson's deal secure. With a $9.7 million cap hit in 2016, LT Jason Peters may not be back with the team. That means Johnson could be asked to shift over to the left side in the near future.

Dolphins | Miami to have up-tempo offense    Fri Jan 29, 10:48 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill will run an offense under new offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen that resembles what QB Peyton Manning ran with the Indianapolis Colts.

Footballguys view: With new head coach Adam Gase, we're really excited by what the Dolphins offense could be. They should be able to get the best out of QB Ryan Tannehill, and that makes WRs Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker even more exciting fantasy options for the 2016 season. Using tempo as a weapon and improving the play from the defense could make the Dolphins an exciting team to watch.

Cowboys | Greg Hardy not returning    Fri Jan 29, 10:29 AM

Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy is not expected to be re-signed by the team due to excessive partying.

Footballguys view: Should anyone be shocked by this? Hardy is already a handful because of the baggage and reputation he comes with. Excessive partying and still being a problem when the Cowboys gave him a second chance is not going to help his chances of staying with the team.

Eagles | Philly could let Sam Bradford walk    Fri Jan 29, 12:25 AM

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford could hit the open market if the team believes there is a franchise quarterback available in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have been spending some money to extend guys like OT Lane Johnson, TE Zach Ertz and TE Brent Celek. The future of Bradford is up in the air. There have been multiple reports about him staying with the team if the price if right. Bradford could fit well under new head coach Doug Pederson, but his contract would have to be structured correctly and take into account his injury history. There are some mock drafts out there that have North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz (a potential franchise QB) falling to the Eagles at 13th overall. Stay tuned.

Texans | Arian Foster working to return    Thu Jan 28, 11:57 PM

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (Achilles') has been in the team's facilities working hard on his rehab, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Footballguys view: Foster is known as a hard-worker, so it's no surprise to learn that he's working hard to come back. He's got a $6.5 million cap hit in 2016, and Foster is set to hit free agency in 2017. There's a chance the Texans decide to let the veteran go due to his price tag. If Foster is on the open market, we feel a team like the Broncos would make a move to add him.

New York Giants LB Jon Beason (knee) said he 'absolutely' wants to remain with the Giants in 2016 if he is able to continue his playing career.

Footballguys view: Good luck with that. Our very own Dr. Jene Bramel believes his legs may be shot. He plays okay in a part-time role, but he can't play a full time anymore.

Redskins | Matt Jones not guaranteed to start    Thu Jan 28, 11:41 PM

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones won't necessarily be the workhorse back in 2016 if RB Alfred Morris leaves in free agency because the team isn't sure Jones can fix everything he needs to over one offseason in order to become a lead back.

Footballguys view: Jones is an exciting playmaker because of his size/speed combination. However, fumbling and consistency seem to be a problem for the young runner. We expect Washington to add another back in the mix via the draft or free agency if Morris moves on.

Steelers | Heath Miller back in 2016?    Thu Jan 28, 11:35 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller likely will be back with the team next year, despite carrying a cap hit of $7.2 million, according to beat writer Ed Bouchette.

Footballguys view: Bouchette is the best Steelers beat writer there is, and if he says Miller will return with that big cap number we believe it. Miller is not the same player he used to be, but he's a favorite target of QB Ben Roethlisberger and may retire a Steeler. Watch to see if Jesse James gets worked more into the mix with Miller aging and slowing down.

Washington Redskins impending free-agent RB Alfred Morris likely won't be back in 2016, according to beat writer Rich Tandler. Tandler added that Morris could sign a deal to return if he doesn't find many offers on the open market.

Footballguys view: Nice. Morris could leave, but he could stay as well. Yes, yes...we'll have to see how the market shakes out for a good (but one-dimensional) back like Morris. This free agent class of backs is going to be chock full of talent.

Ravens | Justin Forsett almost 100%    Thu Jan 28, 10:30 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett (forearm) said he should be 100% in 'a couple of weeks.'

Footballguys view: Forsettt should be the lead back for the Ravens once again. However, he's going to have to prove that he can be durable enough for a sizable role like he was in 2014. Forsett only played in 10 games in 2015 and had just two 100-yard games.

Steelers | No big offer for Le'Veon Bell?    Thu Jan 28, 10:22 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell won't receive a 'break-bank offer' this offseason, according to beat writer Ed Bouchette.

Footballguys view: The Steelers are playing a dangerous game, but it's one that could pay off for them. They are hardly ever overpaying for talent, and especially at the running back position. Bell is a superstar when healthy, but staying healthy has been a problem for the young back. Add in his one-game suspension in 2015 for a positive marijuana test, and you can see why the Steelers won't break the bank for the young stud.

Footballguys view: The Panthers want all hands on deck next week, and the strength of the passing offense comes from the variety of players they can use (along with Cam Newton's unreal abilities). Brown is coming off a huge day and while we won't bet on him replicating that, we do think he will have a big part of the offense.

Panthers | Cam Newton improved from pocket    Thu Jan 28, 05:33 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has improved as a pocket passer since his rookie season in 2011. In his first year, he had 20 touchdowns and 16 interceptions from the pocket, compared to 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions from the pocket in 2015. Newton has 21 touchdowns and two interceptions from the pocket in the last 10 games.

Footballguys view: Newton has adapted his skills to the game he has to play, but has not sacrificed what has made him special in terms of his mobility and fearlessness. In fact, his ability in the pocket has made him that much more dangerous.
