Colts | Greg Toler week-to-week Thu Aug 27, 08:17 PM
Indianapolis Colts CB Greg Toler (neck) is considered week-to-week because of a neck injury he suffered in the second preseason game.
|Footballguys view: The Colts are hoping he can come back before the season really kicks off. Overall the team defense is just a No. 2 defense for fantasy purposes, and best paired with another unit.|

Broncos | Danny Trevathan expected to play Thu Aug 27, 08:14 PM
Denver Broncos LB Danny Trevathan (knee) is expected to play around 20 snaps in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: This could be the one of the best defenses in the NFL this season, so naturally it tracks that they are one of the better defenses in fantasy as well.|

Texans | Ryan Mallett slept in Thu Aug 27, 07:52 PM
Updating a previous report, Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett missed practice Thursday, Aug. 27, because he overslept. Mallett was present for meetings later on, however. He will also be at practice Friday, Aug. 28.
|Footballguys view: We understand it. Madden 16 came out earlier this week (and Gears of War Ultimate Edition), so some late-night gaming might have been in order. Brian Hoyer has already been named the starter in Houston, and that gamer Mallett is the backup.|

Jets | Two roster moves made Thu Aug 27, 07:39 PM
Free-agent QB Josh Johnson (Bengals) signed with the New York Jets Thursday, Aug. 29. QB Jake Heaps was subsequently waived.
|Footballguys view: Johnson has an interesting skill set for the Chan Gailey system. He's bounced around the league, and is likely just a camp arm for the Jets. Ryan Fitzpatrick is the team's starter with Geno Smith (jaw) on the mend. Behind Fitzpatrick is rookie Bryce Petty.|

Raiders | Latavius Murray working with hands Thu Aug 27, 07:23 PM
Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray has been working on his hands in order to improve as a receiver and make himself an all-around player.
|Footballguys view: We're interested in seeing what Murray can do this year. He's a big back with an upright running style, but he's got the speed to score from anywhere on the field. Murray is going to be complemented by Roy Helu this year in Oakland. Even if Murray has improved as a pass-catcher, we can't imagine him being a better option than Helu. Murray has a current ADP of RB14 (3.08) in 12-team PPR leagues right now, and that is just a bit too high. We like him more as a top-20 fantasy RB, not top-15.|

Packers | GB starters will sit Saturday Thu Aug 27, 07:13 PM
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and the rest of Green Bay's starters will not play Saturday, Aug. 29, versus the Philadelphia Eagles, according to QB Matt Blanchard.
|Footballguys view: Why risk any further (devastating) injury? The Packers have already lost Jordy Nelson for the season in a meaningless preseason game, and they don't need to get any other starters hurt.|

Steelers | Martavis Bryant failed tests Thu Aug 27, 07:10 PM
Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant's impending four-game suspension is for failing marijuana tests, according to a source. The suspension's appeal is in its latter stages.
|Footballguys view: Bryant's suspension is currently being appealed. Stay tuned. In the meantime, watch the ADP of Markus Wheaton rise. It was already too low as Wheaton had been working as the team's second receiver opposite Antonio Brown. With this Bryant suspension, we'll see fantasy owners pay more attention to Wheaton.|

Redskins | Robert Griffin cleared Thu Aug 27, 07:04 PM
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has been cleared to play Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Baltimore Ravens.
|Footballguys view: Griffin is in a make-or-break season with Washington. He needs to stay healthy, impress and start playing up to the potential he showed as a rookie back in 2012. We're not counting on it, and fantasy owners should only consider Griffin a QB3.|
Robert Griffin III player page
Cardinals | Chris Johnson should make final roster Thu Aug 27, 06:49 PM
Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson is expected to make the 53-man roster despite not playing for his new team yet.
|Footballguys view: Awesome. An injured veteran running back who might be at the end of his career--and he's had motivation issues in the past. Be bold on Andre Ellington fantasy owners. If Ellington is healthy, he could easily outperform his ADP of RB19 (4.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Jaguars | Blake Bortles likes offense Thu Aug 27, 06:34 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said this year's offense is the best offense he's been a part of in his three years, including college. 'I've enjoyed learning it. I've enjoyed trying to master it, and that's what I'll continue to do,' Bortles said. Bortles appreciates how offensive coordinator Greg Olson has been able to adapt to different offensive players.
|Footballguys view: Bortles will be even more excited if this offensive line can protect him better. Last year as a rookie, Bortles was sacked a league-high 55 times. We'll see if the addition of right tackle Jeremy Parnell can help.|

Seahawks | Earl Thomas should be ready for Week 1 Thu Aug 27, 06:13 PM
Seattle Seahawks FS Earl Thomas (shoulder) is on track to be ready for the start of the regular season, according to head coach Pete Carroll.
|Footballguys view: The Seahawks secondary is not the same without him. Thomas is one of the best in the game at his position, and even coming back from a shoulder injury we expect him to play like his ferocious self.|

Bears | Marquess Wilson misses practice Thu Aug 27, 06:06 PM
Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 27. He likely will not be able to play in the third preseason game.
|Footballguys view: Just what the Bears need, another wide receiver injury. Wilson is competing with Eddie Royal to be the team's second wide receiver opposite Alshon Jeffery. All three are banged up with various injuries, and oh yeah--rookie Kevin White may miss the entire season due to a shin injury.|
Marquess Wilson player page
Broncos | Emmanuel Sanders could return next week Thu Aug 27, 06:03 PM
Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (hamstring) could return to full practice participation next week, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. Sanders is still on pace to be ready for the regular season opener Sunday, Sept. 13.
|Footballguys view: Keep an eye on this situation. Sanders is the speed guy for the Broncos offense, but he hasn't practiced with the team since August 8th. In his place, we've seen Cody Latimer impress with the first-team offense. Sanders is going to see a drop in his numbers due to the balanced (run-heavy?) nature of the Gary Kubiak system. We don't like where he's going at WR15 (3.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Bears | Alshon Jeffery sits out again Thu Aug 27, 05:57 PM
Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 27. He likely will not be able to play in the third preseason game.

Packers | Scott Tolzien expected to miss game Thu Aug 27, 05:52 PM
Green Bay Packers QB Scott Tolzien (concussion) is not expected to play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, because of a concussion.
|Footballguys view: Tolzien is the primary backup behind Aaron Rodgers this year. He'll go through the concussion protocol before he's back on the field. In the meantime, rookie Brett Hundley (dynasty alert!) will get a chance to showcase his talent.|
Scott Tolzien player page
Steelers | Markus Wheaton ready for breakout? Thu Aug 27, 05:35 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton could be primed for a breakout season, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
|Footballguys view: Wheaton is certainly undervalued in the fantasy community--even before the news of Martavis Bryant's potential suspension. We're seeing Wheaton go off the board as a WR5, but that ADP should rise as people realize that he's already the second wide receiver on one of the league's most high-powered offenses.|
Markus Wheaton player page
Packers | Letroy Guion will sit three games Thu Aug 27, 04:36 PM
Green Bay Packers DE Letroy Guion will be suspended for the first three games of the regular season after his appeal was apparently denied.
|Footballguys view: He had his suspension upheld, so that's that. This shouldn't crush the Packers defense, which is a borderline No. 1 team defense or a fantastic No. 2.|
Letroy Guion player page
Browns | Terrelle Pryor could play Saturday Thu Aug 27, 04:34 PM
Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor (hamstring) may be able to play in the Browns' third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: We're still waiting to see if Pryor can make the transition from quarterback to wide receiver. We wouldn't have him on our rosters, but he'll be interesting to see on the field.|
Falcons | Ra'Shede Hageman should be in uniform Thu Aug 27, 04:31 PM
Atlanta Falcons DT Ra'Shede Hageman (concussion) is expected to play in the third preseason game Thursday, Aug. 27.
|Footballguys view: We'd like to see Hageman reach the potential we saw at the Senior Bowl before he was drafted, so with luck he'll be healthy. As a whole, the Falcons defense is uninspiring this year and no more than a very occasional portion of a Team Defense by Committee.|
RaShede Hageman player page
Falcons | Desmond Trufant likely to sit out Thu Aug 27, 04:28 PM
Atlanta Falcons CB Desmond Trufant (shoulder) has participated in practice this week but likely will not play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons defense won't change much without Trufant for this outing, and they would like him to be healthy for Week 1. This isn't a defense you want to roll out in fantasy anyway and we expect them to be underwhelming.|
Desmond Trufant player page
Falcons | Roddy White ruled out Thu Aug 27, 04:23 PM
Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (elbow) will not play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: No sense in risking White--one of the only solid receivers not named Julio Jones on the team--when you know what you have in him. We see White, when healthy, as a decent WR3 or solid WR4.|
Roddy White player page
Steelers | Maurkice Pouncey to return this year? Thu Aug 27, 04:22 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) may be able to return this season, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin said how Pouncey heals after surgery will dictate if he's able to return or not.
|Footballguys view: They're hoping he can which is why he might be on the IR/Return list soon. The Steelers are hurting at center right now and getting him back even for half a season is huge. He can begin practicing after six weeks; but Pouncey can't play until after being on the list for eight weeks. Not having Pouncey might make life harder for running back LeVeon Bell, but not enough to change his RB1 status.|
Falcons | Two players will miss preseason game Thu Aug 27, 04:22 PM
Atlanta Falcons RB Antone Smith (hamstring) and SS William Moore (calf) will not play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: Smith had some nice games last season but isn't a fantasy force, while Moore's absence won't impact the defense, which isn't expected to be a fantasy factor this season.|

Jets | Calvin Pace injury not serious? Thu Aug 27, 04:16 PM
New York Jets LB Calvin Pace (groin) doesn't believe his groin injury is a long-term issue. He's unsure if he'll play Saturday, Aug. 29, versus the New York Giants.
|Footballguys view: As we said earlier, they may just rest him but they need him come Week 1. This is a top ten fantasy defense, but it's not incredibly deep and too many injuries to their thin pass rush is bad.|
Calvin Pace player page
Texans | Ryan Mallett not at practice Thu Aug 27, 04:07 PM
Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett (personal) was not at practice Thursday, Aug. 27, due to a personal issue, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.
|Footballguys view: Could it be that he's upset he got 'Hoyer'd' when Brian Hoyer was named the starter? He certainly seemed upset by the decision, and frankly we were baffled as well. It's easy to read into things without many facts--after all, Mallett was at Wednesday's practice after he lost the job and O'Brien hints he'll be back Friday. Still it's an intriguing idea that he was so upset he walked off. We'll be waiting to see what Hard Knocks has to say about it. We would avoid this quarterback situation if at all possible. Hoyer is aggressively mediocre, and no better than a QB3. Right now Mallett isn't even that though at least he has the upside of the unknown. This isn't a great situation though and Fantasy GMs are best looking elsewhere.|

Steelers | Martavis Bryant facing suspension Thu Aug 27, 02:53 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has been suspended four games for violating the league's Substance Abuse Policy, according to league sources. He has filed an appeal.
|Footballguys view: Wheaton has been ranked as a WR4, but he's been climbing and it's not insane to think he could see some WR3 production. Ben Roethlisberger might take a bit of a hit from a production standpoint, but he's still a QB1 for us.|
Martavis Bryant player page
Bills | Sammy Watkins out Saturday Thu Aug 27, 02:40 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (gluteus) won't play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: Well, that won't exactly help EJ Manuel or anyone else. We still see Watkins as a borderline WR2/WR3 but that quarterback situation makes us feel a little ill.|
Sammy Watkins player page
Giants | Victor Cruz out third preseason game Thu Aug 27, 02:36 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) won't play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: We're a tad nervous about Cruz and Week 1 being a thing that happens. This continues to linger and while he is likely just being coddled a bit by the team, and he's supposed to be ready for Week 1, it's something to track. Raanan also recently told our own Andrew Garda in an interview that even if Cruz is back in time for the season, nobody is really sure if he'll be anything like his old self. Stay tuned.|

Ravens | Will Hill signs two-year deal Thu Aug 27, 02:15 PM
Baltimore Ravens FS Will Hill signed a two-year deal Thursday, Aug. 27.
|Footballguys view: The Ravens defense is a little bit of a question mark, and we have them ranked as a No. 2 team defense. Hill should help a little of he can stay out of trouble (he was suspended in all three of his previous seasons).|
Will Hill player page
Texans | Arian Foster could return Week 2 Thu Aug 27, 02:13 PM
Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) has been working out in Houston, and he's expected to return to the field in some facet by Week 2 to Week 4, according to ESPN 97.5 in Houston's Jayson Braddock.
|Footballguys view: Great news for fantasy owners of Foster, but not so wonderful for those who have Alfred Blue. We've seen Blue getting drafted in the sixth round of drafts, while Foster is going just one round earlier. That could actually make Foster a bit of a value as when healthy he's at least a solid RB2.|
Arian Foster player page
Jets | Calvin Pace idle Thursday Thu Aug 27, 02:06 PM
New York Jets LB Calvin Pace (groin) is out of practice Thursday, Aug. 27.
|Footballguys view: The Jets can ill-afford losing a pass rusher, even one who isn't all that special like Pace. The Jets remain a very good team defense, and should be a solid starter for you most of the season.|
Calvin Pace player page
Ravens | No timetable for Breshad Perriman Thu Aug 27, 01:58 PM
Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (knee) has no timetable for his return, according to head coach John Harbaugh. His recovery has been slower than expected.
|Footballguys view: Harbaugh said the recovery has been taking longer than expected, and that's going to hurt his fantasy value. He was already ranked as a WR5, but that might drop now as well. This could help Marlon Brown's fantasy value, though he remains as more of a WR4/5 guy. Justin Forsett could catch an enormous amount of balls though, and he was already a rock-solid RB2. Steve Smith is going to have to carry the load so he might outproduce our WR4 expectations of him, while tight end Crockett Gilmore seems to be the beneficiary in the passing game. While just a TE3 before this news, you can probably bump him up a rank or so to a TE2, if not a high end one, as OC Marc Trestman likes to utilize tight ends.|
Breshad Perriman player page
Bills | EJ Manuel starting preseason game Thu Aug 27, 01:56 PM
Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel will start the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: What's the saying: if you have three quarterbacks, you have none. Most beat writers had crossed Manuel off the list as potential starters, though perhaps that was premature. Still, head coach Rex Ryan says all three quarterbacks (Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor being the other two) will play with the 1s, so maybe we won't see much of Manuel. This is a mess and you should avoid the quarterback situation on this team at all costs.|
EJ Manuel player page
Saints | Khiry Robinson out again Thu Aug 27, 01:50 PM
New Orleans Saints RB Khiry Robinson (undisclosed) is out of practice Thursday, Aug. 27, with an undisclosed ailment.
|Footballguys view: With Mark Ingram and C.J. Spiller in town, Robinson had still managed to hang around as the No2 back on the depth chart. That said, the constant injury issues might keep him as the third wheel again this season. He has ability but that won't help from the trainer's table. We have him as an RB5 right now and would only grab him very late and for depth.|
Khiry Robinson player page
Bears | Eddie Royal out Thursday Thu Aug 27, 01:34 PM
Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (hip) missed practice Thursday, Aug. 27, for the second straight day. He's not ruled out for the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: Royal has had flashes of brilliance but too often regresses back to mediocrity. With rookie Kevin White sidelined for the foreseeable future, he'll get opportunity, but we don't trust him enough to make him more than a WR5 or WR6.|
Eddie Royal player page
Falcons | Tevin Coleman expected to play Thu Aug 27, 01:24 PM
Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman is expected to play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: The team hasn't wanted to rush Coleman, who has been battling a hamstring injury. He has a shot at getting a lot of carries but missing the first two preseason games and a lot of practice might put that further down the line. As of this moment, we have him as an RB3, though he has more upside. Devonta Freeman (currently an RB4) will definitely be skimming carries from him.|
Tevin Coleman player page
Steelers | Maurkice Pouncey may hit IR-R Thu Aug 27, 12:52 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (leg) could land on Injured Reserve designated to return, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.
|Footballguys view: The Steelers are hurting at center right now so they are absolutely hopeful they can get him back mid-season. He can begin practicing after six weeks; but Pouncey can't play until after being on the list for eight weeks. It's going to hurt LeVeon Bell a tad, but not enough to knock him off his RB1 pedestal.|
Bills | Two Bills RBs return Thu Aug 27, 12:16 PM
Buffalo Bills RB Bryce Brown (hamstring) and RB Anthony Dixon (calf) returned to practice Thursday, Aug. 27.
|Footballguys view: Mostly depth backs, the Bills could find themselves in need of one or both, considering both Fred Jackson and LeSean McCoy's propensity to get banged up. Neither one is anything but a deep, deep bench warmer though and unless there is an injury, they aren't worth having on the roster.|

Bills | LeSean McCoy still working on side Thu Aug 27, 12:16 PM
Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is doing conditioning drills on the side at practice Thursday, Aug. 27.
|Footballguys view: They'll be careful with him as they cannot afford to have him injured to start the season, not with the quarterbacks they have to work with. We still think he has something left in the tank and the struggles last year were a bit of an aberration, though we're not sure how much he might struggle with a worse offensive line and offense than what he had with the Eagles. We consider him an RB1, but a shakier, lower-end one.|

Cowboys | Dez Bryant increasing reps Thu Aug 27, 11:53 AM
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (hamstring) has continued to increase his repetitions in practice and had two touchdowns in one-on-one drills Wednesday, Aug. 26.
|Footballguys view: Bryant remains near the top of our elite WR1s and we expect big things from him this season. We're not sold on the ground game, so we actually expect more passing this season and Bryant will be the main beneficiary of that.|
Dez Bryant player page
Dolphins | Jamar Taylor out Thursday Thu Aug 27, 11:13 AM
Miami Dolphins CB Jamar Taylor (quadriceps) is out of practice Thursday, Aug. 27, and will not play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.
|Footballguys view: Taylor is slotted across from Brent Grimes, so they are likely being more cautious than anything else. This has the potential to be a solid secondary, but whomever is paired with Grimes will have their work cut out as they will see plenty of targets. We see Miami as a borderline starting team defense, or a very good unit to pair with another similar squad.|

49ers | Kendall Hunter may play Saturday Thu Aug 27, 10:52 AM
San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter (knee) may make his preseason debut Saturday, Aug. 29. Hunter received the first carry in practice Wednesday, Aug. 26.
|Footballguys view: Hunter reportedly had a great offseason despite the surgery, but not being on the field makes it even harder to gain any ground on Carlos Hyde or Reggie Bush. Still with Bush's age, he is likely going to hold a roster spot and sub Bush in third down situations. We wouldn't recommend him on a fantasy roster, but he's worth keeping on speed dial if Bush gets hurt.|
Kendall Hunter player page
Browns | Pat Devlin signs with Cleveland Thu Aug 27, 10:30 AM
Free-agent QB Pat Devlin (Dolphins) signed with the Cleveland Browns Thursday, Aug. 27. OL Ryan Seymour was waived.
|Footballguys view: He joins Thad Lewis, Johnny Manziel and Josh McCown in the mess that is the Browns' quarterback group. If anything, this might spell doom for Lewis, though who knows what they're thinking in Cleveland these days. Really there's no quarterback here you can rely on in fantasy, though Manziel has intriguing upside. He isn't starting though, so overall, avoid this group.|

Jets | Josh Johnson working out with Jets Thu Aug 27, 10:18 AM
Free-agent QB Josh Johnson (Bengals) is working out for the New York Jets Thursday, Aug. 27.
|Footballguys view: We're not totally seeing what the point is here, with five quarterbacks on the roster right now, including the injured Geno Smith. Johnson is an odd fit behind Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, rookie Bryce Petty and recently signed parachute Matt Flynn. Assume they are just kicking tires here, especially considering how disappointing Johnson has been in other attempts. Nobody here is a safe player to have on your fantasy roster, with Fitzpatrick only weighing in as a QB3 and an emergency start.|

Eagles | Jordan Matthews staying in slot Thu Aug 27, 08:45 AM
Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews is likely to remain in the slot this season, but he may play in some two-receiver sets on the outside. 'I've been doing some of both (in the slot and outside,]' Matthews said. 'But I'm going to do whatever the coaches want me to do, man. Shoot, if they want to put me at running back, I'll go and do it.'
|Footballguys view: It's where his best fit is, really, as he's not really a No. 1 receiver. If Nelson Agholor can ramp up his production in his rookie season, the Eagles will find Matthews open a lot. Staying in the slot allows him to have the best chance to be productive and is why we have him as a solid WR2 in our rankings.|

Free-agent QB Pat Devlin (Bears) will work out for the Cleveland Browns Thursday, Aug. 27, according to a source.
