Ravens | BAL could cut six    Mon Feb 20, 11:02 AM

Baltimore Ravens LB Elvis Dumervil ($6 million), S Lardarius Webb ($5.5 million), CB Shareece Wright ($2.6 million) C Jeremy Zuttah ($2.3 million), CB Kyle Arrington ($2.1 million) and S Kendrick Lewis ($1.8 million) could be cut to create $20.3 million in salary cap space.

Footballguys view: The Ravens only have $15 million in cap space at this time, and that ranks among the lowest in the league. Freeing up $20 million extra would put them around the middle of the pack in the NFL, and it would give them a fighting chance with some of the better free agents out there.

Patriots | Danny Amendola open to pay cut    Mon Feb 20, 09:09 AM

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola is receptive to a pay cut in order to stay with the team.

Footballguys view: Amendola should be open for a pay cut if he wants to stay with the Patriots. He's got a $7.7 million cap number but there's only $1.4 million remaining in dead money. He'll either take a pay cut or won't return to New England.

Jaguars | Branden Albert visiting Jaguars    Mon Feb 20, 08:41 AM

Miami Dolphins OT Branden Albert is visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars Monday, Feb. 20, to help facilitate a trade involving TE Julius Thomas. The trade would likely happen if both players agree to new deals. Thomas may need to take a small pay cut, and Albert could receive a bonus.

NFL | Christian McCaffrey can handle carries    Sun Feb 19, 10:54 PM

Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey is a tireless workout warrior built to handle heavy workloads, according to his collegiate teammate Graham Shuler. 'We do this thing here called the Gator Run,' Shuler said. 'It's one of our most intense off-season training things. It's when you load up one of those utility vehicles, like a Gator, with 600 pounds in the back and three coaches are riding in it. We push it all around campus, and it's a sprint. It's really rare for anyone to push it over 20 times. When we did it this summer, Christian pushed it 43 times. He took 43 turns.'

Footballguys view: McCaffrey is a versatile running back who can immediately help as a runner, receiver or return man. He's likely to see his draft stock rise as the pre-draft process continues. We fully expect him to impress at the Scouting Combine, and he'll certainly get bonus points as a great interview/standout person. Don't be shocked to see more mock drafts putting him in the first round.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert has knack for scoring    Sun Feb 19, 10:05 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert had five touchdowns in eight games in 2016, and he has 18 touchdowns in 21 games over the last two seasons combined.

Footballguys view: Too bad he doesn't have a knack for staying healthy. Everyone under the sun knows Eifert is super talented, but he has never played a full 16-game season as a pro. In fact, Eifert has been limited to only 22 games over the last three years. If healthy, Eifert is a TE1 set-it-and-forget-it starter for fantasy owners.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce a rare weapon    Sun Feb 19, 09:52 PM

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce ranked second in the NFL with 655 yards after catch in 2016, and he was the only tight end to rank in the top 15 in the category.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs jumpstarted their passing game with Kelce and WR Tyreek Hill this year. Kelce's a TE1 with the upside to finish as the best fantasy tight end in 2017.

Raiders | Competition for Latavius Murray?    Sun Feb 19, 09:07 PM

Oakland Raiders impending free-agent RB Latavius Murray will have interest from multiple teams, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan, and Caplan believes the market for Murray could make it difficult for Oakland to re-sign him.

Footballguys view: Speculation around the league says the Raiders are ready to move on anyway. Murray is a big-bodied three-down running back with the speed to rip off field-flipping plays. He'll have more than a few suitors, and his price tag may be larger than some have anticipated.

NFL | Davis Webb the top QB prospect?    Sun Feb 19, 08:52 PM

California QB Davis Webb will end up being the best quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft, according to one NFL executive.

Footballguys view: Webb wasn't the best QB at the Senior Bowl earlier this year, so we've got a hard time believing he's the best QB in this entire draft class. We may see four QBs taken in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft, and Webb is unlikely to be one of them. It doesn't mean he can't develop to be the best but just know there is a ton of work to be done in order for that to happen.

Cowboys | Tony Romo willing to alter contract    Sun Feb 19, 07:31 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is open to restructuring his contract in order to facilitate a trade to a contender.

Dolphins | Miami still pursuing Julius Thomas    Sun Feb 19, 07:20 PM

Miami Dolphins OT Branden Albert could be traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for TE Julius Thomas, according to league sources, and Albert said he wouldn't 'ruffle feathers' if he was traded.

Footballguys view: If added by the Dolphins, Thomas would be reunited with head coach Adam Gase. He put up the best numbers of his career under Gase during their time with the Broncos. If Thomas can stay healthy, something he's struggled with as a pro, he can be a dangerous weapon for any passing attack.

Dolphins | Kenyan Drake could be third-down back    Sun Feb 19, 04:21 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake could be used a third-down back next season with RB Jay Ajayi as the starting running back.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins should use Drake as a change-of-pace back in 2017. He's got the speed to get to and through the hole quickly. Drake is not creative or elusive as a runner, but he could perform like a Tevin Coleman-lite for the Dolphins offense.

Redskins | DeSean Jackson to receive strong interest    Sun Feb 19, 03:33 PM

Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR DeSean Jackson is expected to receive strong interest once free agency begins because he is still only of the fastest receivers in the NFL even though he is 30 years old.

Footballguys view: Jackson should get plenty of interest on the open market. We think there's a good chance he lands back with the Eagles.

Browns | Jimmy Garoppolo top target for Browns?    Sun Feb 19, 03:17 PM

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be the top target for Cleveland Browns this offseason, in the opinion of The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot. The Browns could consider quarterbacks like Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo and Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent QB Mike Glennon if they are not able to acquire Garoppolo.

Footballguys view: The Brown are looking for a franchise quarterback, and they must think Garoppolo can be that guy. We'll see if they can put a package together that would entice the Patriots into trading away the young quarterback.

Patriots | Dont'a Hightower could get transition tag    Sun Feb 19, 03:04 PM

New England Patriots impending free-agent LB Dont'a Hightower may be more likely to receive the transition tag than the franchise tag if the Patriots decide to use a tag on him, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

Footballguys view: Hightower would receive around $11 million if he receives the transition tag and the Patriots would have the first right of refusal if another team signed him. The franchise tag would be worth between $14.5 million and $15 million, which may be too rich for the Patriots.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin could be returner    Sun Feb 19, 02:55 PM

Los Angeles Chargers WR Travis Benjamin could be used as a punt returner next season. Benjamin was the punt returner during the early part of 2016 but struggled with his decision making and was replaced.

Footballguys view: Benjamin has the speed to make field-flipping plays as a return man. He'll be given another look at the return position. Fantasy owners who get points for return yards or at least return touchdowns need to keep this in mind.

Broncos | Russell Okung expected to be released    Sun Feb 19, 02:30 PM

Denver Broncos OT Russell Okung is expected to be released this offseason, but the Broncos could look to re-sign him if they want him back.

Pittsburgh Steelers CB William Gay could be released this offseason since he is scheduled to count $2.63 million in 2017 and is 32 years old.

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert indicated the team is not sure if they will be able to count on CB Senquez Golson (shoulder, foot) in 2017 since he has missed his first two seasons because of injury.

Footballguys view: Colbert said he is not sure if Golson lost any speed because of the foot injury he dealt with during his rookie season. The Steelers will not hesitate to select a cornerback in the 2017 NFL draft even if Golson is healthy.

Free-agent DT Earl Mitchell (Dolphins) is scheduled to meet with the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Feb. 23, and Friday, Feb. 24, according to a source.

Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil to play left tackle    Sun Feb 19, 11:43 AM

Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil will serve as the team's starting left tackle in 2017.

Footballguys view: That's the reason they drafted him last year as their left tackle of the future. With Branden Albert likely traded away, there's a spot open and Tunsil gives them the luxury of moving Albert.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard rehab update    Sun Feb 19, 11:16 AM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) is making solid progress in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and could avoid landing on the PUP list, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. However, Hobson believes there is still a possibility that he could miss the first game or two of the 2017 regular season.

Footballguys view: We'll know more about Bernard's availability as the season gets closer. He should be very limited during training camp, but Bernard's workload should ramp up near the end of August. How he responds to that will determine how soon he can be ready to return.

Footballguys view: Peterson took to Twitter to comment on the moves the Giants were making this offseason. He's likely done in Minnesota, and it will be interesting to see where he lands. Peterson can still carry a full workload as a runner, but he might have to settle for working in some form of RBBC wherever he lands.

49ers | SF interested in Jacob Tamme?    Sun Feb 19, 10:01 AM

The San Francisco 49ers could be interested in impending free-agent TE Jacob Tamme if he doesn't re-sign with the Atlanta Falcons, according to multiple sources.

Rams | Trumaine Johnson could receive franchise tag    Sun Feb 19, 09:59 AM

The Los Angeles Rams are considering giving CB Trumaine Johnson the franchise tag for the second consecutive season.

Footballguys view: If the Rams did that, Johnson would be hitting the open markeet in 2018. If he receives the tag, he will make $16.74 million in 2017. The Rams have until March 1 to make a decision. Tagging him would give the team until July 15th to work out a new long-term contract.

Bengals | AJ McCarron the best QB trade target?    Sat Feb 18, 10:30 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron is a better trade target than New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo, according to one NFL executive. 'If I had to choose one, I would go after McCarron,' the executive said. 'Ideally, you get him for a late second- or early third-round pick.

Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick in 2014, McCarron has been patiently waiting and developing behind starter Andy Dalton. In seven appearances (all in 2015), McCarron has six touchdowns and only two interceptions. He worked in a pro style offense during his college career at Alabama, and he's known as a cocky Alpha male who can be a fiery leader. McCarron does struggle with pressure, but when settled down he's not afraid to make tough throws.

NFL | Hype building for Myles Garrett    Sat Feb 18, 10:24 PM

Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett is going to 'completely torch' the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, according to Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network, and Jeremiah said the expectation is for Garrett's workout to rival that of Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney's 2014 appearance.

Footballguys view: Garrett should be the biggest standout player at the combine. At 6'4" 268, Garrett is a freak athlete who can move like a much smaller man. Garrett can wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks with multiple pass-rushing moves and burst to the passer. He should be the no.1 pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Redskins | Jordan Reed endorses Kirk Cousins    Sat Feb 18, 10:16 PM

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed said bringing back impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins should be a top priority this offseason.

Footballguys view: Reed has good chemistry with Cousins, so the endorsement makes sense. Recent reports have indicated that Cousins would be happy with the franchise tag again because he doesn't want a long-term deal from Washington. We'll see what the future holds for Cousins, but we think he plays 2017 with Washington again. After that, things get a bit unclear.

Rams | Balanced offense for Jared Goff    Sat Feb 18, 09:54 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff is a 'natural thrower,' according to offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, and LaFleur said he plans to 'marry' the run and the pass in 2017.

Footballguys view: The Rams need to make things work with Goff if they can. Goff has a quick release and can throw accurately on underneath routes. He's a rhythm passer who played best at a fast tempo in college. We think the Rams should use an up-tempo scheme in order to play to Goff's strengths.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is 'grinding' and doing all types of drills as part of his rehab from his knee injury, according to WR Charles Johnson.

Footballguys view: We'd love to see Bridgewater return to his old form, and it's certainly something we're rooting for. However, he may not be able to return in 2017. The Vikings should move forward with the plan of Sam Bradford as their starter for the entire season.

Browns | CLE may not tag Terrelle Pryor     Sat Feb 18, 05:25 PM

The Cleveland Browns do not plan on placing the franchise tag on impending free-agent WR Terrelle Pryor, according to a source. The team would still like to sign Pryor to a long-term deal.

Footballguys view: Pryor wants to stay, and the Browns want to keep him around. This sounds like it could be pretty simple. At some point this offseason, we expect the two sides to come through with a new long-term contract. Pryor had over 1,000 yards receiving and four touchdowns in 2016. That made him the 20th-ranked WR in standard-scoring leagues last year. Pryor is a WR2/flex play with WR1 upside going forward for fantasy owners.
