Steelers | Le'Veon Bell turned down huge five-year offer Fri Aug 18, 02:49 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell, who has yet to report to training camp, reportedly turned down a five-year contract extension averaging more than $12 million per year annually that his agent and the team had agreed upon right before the July 17 NFL deadline for franchise players to sign long-term deals.
|Footballguys view: The Steelers can always franchise him again next year, but if Bell is intent on moving on unless he gets a huge deal, they could move on, too. Bell staying healthy is crucial to preserving his long-term value on the market. Hold onto those James Conner dynasty shares.|

Panthers | Cam Newton to sit against Tennessee Fri Aug 18, 01:51 PM
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) will not play versus the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, Aug. 19. Head coach Ron Rivera made the decision after the second of two joint practices against the Titans on Thursday, Aug. 17, and Newton did not throw in team drills during either practice.
|Footballguys view: There haven't been any glaring signs that the Panthers are worried about Newton, but if he can't go in the third preseason game, it might lower our expectations for him in his great matchup against the 49ers to open the season.|

Jets | Bilal Powell to suit up Saturday Fri Aug 18, 01:20 PM
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) expected to play against the Detroit Lions on Saturday, Aug. 19, while RB Matt Forte (hamstring) will not.
|Footballguys view: Forte's hamstring could give Powell the starting job to open the season. Powell was a solid to strong RB1 when Forte was a non-factor last year, but that was on a Jets team that didn't seem to be playing for next year already.|

Jaguars | Dan Carpenter to visit Jacksonville Fri Aug 18, 01:11 PM
Free-agent PK Dan Carpenter (Bills) will work out for the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.
|Footballguys view: Jason Myers has been too inconsistent for the team to trust. They might not keep Carpenter if Myers improves, but he is definitely a few steps out on the plank.|

Baltimore Ravens C Jeremy Zuttah (49ers) signed an undisclosed two-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, Aug. 18. To make room for him on the roster, the Ravens waived/injured WR Kenny Bell.
|Footballguys view: Zuttah wasn't good enough for the 49ers, but he might start for the Ravens after they let him walk this offseason. While it could improve their line, it's still a sign that they are going to be weak at center this year.|

Patriots | Derek Rivers' season may be over Fri Aug 18, 09:47 AM
Updating previous reports, New England Patriots LB Derek Rivers (knee) is feared to have suffered a season-ending knee injury, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: Rivers was supposed to help this team get over the loss of Rob Ninkovich, Chris Long and Jabaal Sheard. Kony Ealy isn't having a great summer either. The Patriots pass rush could be a problem this year if Dont'a Hightower can't stay healthy.|

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon (hamstring) suffered a left hamstring strain in the first quarter and did not return against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Aug. 17. Yeldon finished with two carries for two yards.
|Footballguys view: Yeldon might not be guaranteed a roster spot after Corey Grant carried over his impressive Week 17 from last year to the preseason opener last week.|

Bills | Tyrod Taylor still the starter Fri Aug 18, 02:12 AM
Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor will remain atop the depth chart, according to post-game comments from head coach Sean McDermott Thursday, Aug. 17. Taylor struggled badly during the team's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
|Footballguys view: The dreaded vote of confidence does not ensure that Taylor will remain the starter for long on a team that is looking to next year. Taylor could also be dangled as a trade target.|

Ravens | Maxx Williams makes an impression Fri Aug 18, 02:10 AM
Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams had two catches for 48 yards, including a 40-yard grab, against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, Aug. 17. It was the best that Williams has looked all summer, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.
|Footballguys view: Williams rumbled through the defense on his catch and run, and should provide more than Ben Watson or Nick Boyle can, although that might not be enough to be fantasy relevant. The 23-year-old is showing that he should be rostered in dynasty leagues.|

Jaguars | Blake Bortles not a lock to start Thu Aug 17, 11:50 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said QB Blake Bortles has to earn the starting quarterback job and indicated QB Chad Henne has a chance to take the job. Marrone said he is looking for the best person to lead the offense.
|Footballguys view: That Marrone is saying this after two preseason games is a sign that Bortles is in trouble. Henne is looking like the Week 1 starter unless Bortles turns this around.|

Jaguars | Allen Robinson has solid performance Thu Aug 17, 11:45 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson caught five passes for 40 yards in the preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Aug. 17.
|Footballguys view: Robinson was wide open and missed by Blake Bortles in the most memorable play from the game. He could get a new starter by Week 1, which can't hurt his outlook.|

Jaguars | Dede Westbrook finishes with 131 yards Thu Aug 17, 11:39 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook caught six passes for 131 yards in the preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Aug. 17.
|Footballguys view: Westbrook was a late-game star again this week. He is looking like a good bet to be in the top three receivers for this team next year, if not start. Allen Hurns is overpaid and Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee will be both free agents.|

Buccaneers | Doug Martin finds end zone Thu Aug 17, 11:19 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin rushed for 30 yards and one touchdown on five carries in the preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Aug. 17.
|Footballguys view: Martin looked like his 2015 self, which was good enough for Top 10 running back numbers. Look for his ADP to rise despite his three-game suspension. The chances of Jacquizz Rodgers holding this job after Week 3 are going down.|

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston has solid outing Thu Aug 17, 11:07 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston went 21-for-29 for 196 yards in the preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Aug. 17.
|Footballguys view: Winston had a few what are you doing moments, but he never seems to carry them into the next drive. He's still a boom/bust option with some upside at a very deep position in fantasy drafts.|

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount held in check Thu Aug 17, 10:54 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount rushed for eight yards on five carries in the preseason game against Buffalo Bills Thursday, Aug. 17. He also caught two passes for 15 yards during the game.
|Footballguys view: Blount will likely start to open the season, but Wendell Smallwood could threaten his workload. This is looking like a three, if not four back backfield, with Blount only having value when he scores.|

Bills | Tyrod Taylor throws two INTs Thu Aug 17, 10:48 PM
Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor went 8-for-18 for 53 yards and two interceptions in the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, Aug. 17.
|Footballguys view: Taylor looks like a bad fit for the new pass offense. There might not be one rosterable player in the Buffalo passing game and the chances of seeing Nathan Peterson start for the Bills this year are going up.|
Tyrod Taylor player page
Ravens | Terrance West struggles vs. Miami Thu Aug 17, 10:40 PM
Baltimore Ravens RB Terrance West ran the football six times for minus two yards in the preseason game against the Miami Dolphins Thursday, Aug. 17.
|Footballguys view: West may get the lion's share of carries for this team, but what is that worth? He's only worth a marginal investment late in drafts.|

Ravens | Joe Flacco will not practice yet Thu Aug 17, 10:28 PM
Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (back) is not expected to practice this week because the team is sticking to their timeline for him, according to head coach John Harbaugh.
|Footballguys view: The Ravens haven't signed another quarterback and Ryan Mallett hasn't been impressive so far in the preseason, so they must trust Flacco to be okay for Week 1. It's still not building confidence in drafting Ravens on our fantasy teams.|

Lions | Eric Ebron remains sidelined Thu Aug 17, 09:40 PM
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 17.
|Footballguys view: Ebron's hamstring issue isn't going away. This makes it more difficult to take him as your TE1, as he might not be in game shape to open the season and faces a good set of linebackers and safeties vs. Arizona Week 1.|

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler made his preseason debut Thursday, August 17, against the Baltimore Ravens, working two drives before being removed from the contest. He completed 3-of-6 passes for 24 yards.
|Footballguys view: Cutler targeted DeVante Parker heavily and compared him to Alshon Jeffery after the game. It looks like the pecking order among Miami wide receivers is changing.|

Broncos | Emmanuel Sanders does not practice Thu Aug 17, 08:15 PM

Colts | Donte Moncrief still limited Thu Aug 17, 07:44 PM
Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief (shoulder) is still limited to only individual drills even though he returned to practice last week.
|Footballguys view: We set it not long ago, if Moncrief could avoid having this shoulder issue linger we wouldn't be worried. It's lingering, so we're worried. Moncrief's biggest problem from a career standpoint has been injuries, and that appears to still be the case. He's coming off the board as the 35th wide receiver, which is about right between the injuries and the uncertainty around Andrew Luck.|

Redskins | Coach happy with Niles Paul Thu Aug 17, 07:39 PM
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul has been one of the most impressive players during training camp, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Paul has worked at all of the tight end spots and can play fullback.
|Footballguys view: This is notable for the fact that Jordan Reed is often heard and has never completed an entire season. So Paul may end up as a pass-catching weapon for Washington at some point this season. This news really just let you know that he'll be on the field a lot, though as long as Reed and the wide receivers are healthy his impact from a fantasy standpoint should be super low.|
Niles Paul player page
Redskins | Josh Doctson may play Saturday Thu Aug 17, 07:24 PM
Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (hamstring) has a chance to play in the preseason game against the Green Bay Packers Saturday, Aug. 19, but will work out prior to the game before the team decides on his status.
|Footballguys view: Dachshund who was regarded by Washington as the top wide receiver in his draft class has to get on the field at some point because the team would like to see their first-round investment payoff. Terrelle Pryor and Jamison Crowder are both ahead of him right now, but if he can step up the three of them plus Jordan Reed could make Kirk Cousins look very good this season. That many weapons will keep his ceiling low, hence his ADP of 156 overall, and 54th wide receiver off the board.|

|Footballguys view: There are a lot of options for Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh, so Smith-Schuster should get on the field again as soon as he can. While we like the rookies ability and potential as a Red Zone threat we aren't expecting much this year.|
