Cowboys | Rolando McClain sentenced to 18 days in jail Fri Jul 25, 01:26 PM
Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys LB Rolando McClain was sentenced to 18 days in jail after being convicted of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors. McClain has appealed the sentence an is flying back to the team's training camp.
|Footballguys view: McClain may see some punishment from the NFL as well, now that the case is settled, although an appeal would likely delay that. He's basically on the roster bubble already so this doesn't help his case for staying, despite being traded for earlier in July.|

Cowboys | Rolando McClain found guilty Fri Jul 25, 01:18 PM
Dallas Cowboys LB Rolando McClain was convicted of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors, Friday, July 15.
|Footballguys view: Because the Dallas Cowboys need more uncertainty on their defense. Really, despite trading for him earlier this month, he isn't a sure thing in terms of making the roster. We'll see if there is a suspension, which should impact the odds on that.|

Cardinals | Sign Reggie Dunn Fri Jul 25, 01:01 PM
The Arizona Cardinals signed WR Reggie Dunn (Patriots) Friday, July 25. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: A depth add and camp body, that's all. We don't see him as anything more than that.|

Buccaneers | Carl Nicks not expected to practice Fri Jul 25, 01:00 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers OG Carl Nicks (toe) is not expected to practice Friday, July 25.
|Footballguys view: Nicks is just getting some veteran rest early in camp. Nothing to see here, move along. He's been cleared to play, so this is just some caution.|

Titans | Andy Levitre starting on NFI Fri Jul 25, 12:55 PM
Tennessee Titans G Andy Levitre (appendix) will start training camp on the Non-Football Injury list.
|Footballguys view: As expected, Levitre is out. The Titans hope he can be around for most of the preseason games, or at least Week 1.|
Titans | Shonn Greene good to go Fri Jul 25, 12:52 PM
Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (knee) is ready for training camp after missing time in the offseason due to a right knee injury, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt.
|Footballguys view: Shonn Greene is so average, he makes average backs look exciting. A one-dimensional back with two gears - kinda slow and almost as slow - he will lose this job to rookie Bishop Sankey. The only question is when.Right now we see him as a RB5, while Sankey is our pick for the offense as a low-end RB2 or a high-end RB3. A versatile, multidimensional back, Sankey can run well between the tackles an catch the ball a bit. How much he is ultimately on the field might depend on pass-blocking, but we're bullish on him.|

Jets | Geno Smith dominates first-team reps Fri Jul 25, 12:32 PM
New York Jets QB Geno Smith logged three-quarters of the first-team practice reps for the second straight day on Friday, July 25.
|Footballguys view: As expected, this is Smith's job to lose. We've got to see a lot more than puff comments from Rex Ryan and the team before we see him as anything more than a fantasy QB3. He has the tools around him now, so he should excel. If he doesn't the Jets might hook him quick and throw in Michael Vick, who could be an intriguing backup fantasy player if that happens.|

Texans | Andre Johnson wants to end career with Texans Fri Jul 25, 12:26 PM
Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson said 'That's the plan' when asked if he wants to finish his career with the team. He feels confident with the direction of the team after meeting with the front office. Johnson ended his holdout this week.
|Footballguys view: He'd also like a Super Bowl, a good quarterback and a purple unicorn. Of the list of things he wants, the only one that sounds likely is finishing his career with the Texans. They won't trade him, and it looks like they will try and make him forget about the whole "400th rebuild during your career" thing with money. So it seems that Johnson's WR2 ranking is likely to remain the case unless his "Blue Light Special" quarterback group gets good or gets worse.|

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts exits practice Fri Jul 25, 12:24 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) did not finish practice Friday, July 25, because of a hamstring injury.
|Footballguys view: The Jaguars have to be a bit worried about Shorts, who missed all of minicamp and most of the OTAs with a hamstring injury. This is worth watching as the team may have to lean even more heavily on rookies Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson than they already were. Right now Shorts appears to be worth a WR4 spot, while Lee is around a WR5 and Allen a WR6. That could change a little if the injury keeps Shorts out and the team (and we) get a longer and deeper look at the rookies.|

Giants | Jon Beason aiming for preseason opener Fri Jul 25, 12:16 PM
New York Giants LB Jon Beason (foot) is hopeful he can play in the preseason opener. He's running in water as part of his rehab.
|Footballguys view: Our own Andrew Garda has been attending camp and reports that Beason feels very good and while he knows he's not 100%, feels that he will be soon and knows that the team is making sure he stays on the path and doesn't overdo it. Beason also mentioned that he feels like he is getting a lot out of the film work , especially with Jameel McClain. Beason being out has moved McClain to the MLB position and rookie Devon Kennard to the SAM spot. Kennard will likely move out when Beason is healthy (McClain will shift to the SAM) but clearly he has caught the eye of the coaching staff. This could be a very productive group of linebackers.|

Ravens | Lardarius Webb exits Fri Jul 25, 12:03 PM
Baltimore Ravens CB Lardarius Webb (undisclosed) ran off the field under his own power for treatment of an injury early in practice Friday, July 25, and hasn't returned. The injury didn't appear serious.
|Footballguys view: Early days of camp bring early minor injuries. That's what this appears to be at least, so this isn't a worry, especially as he came off under his own power.|

Eagles | Excuse Keelan Johnson from camp Fri Jul 25, 11:59 AM
Philadelphia Eagles S Keelan Johnson was excused from training camp Friday, July 25, as he deals with his arrest for assaulting an Arizona police officer.
|Footballguys view: Johnson only dressed for a pair of games last year so he's probably on the roster bubble. The sooner he can get back into camp, the better.|
Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill and Mike Wallace connect Fri Jul 25, 11:44 AM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill and WR Mike Wallace connected on a deep throw on the first day of training camp Friday, July 25. According to Omar Kelly, the two connected on one deep ball in five weeks during last year's camp activities.
|Footballguys view: To paraphrase Han Solo: Good in shorts is one thing. Good in pads? That's something else. So while this is a positive, don't go nuts yet. We still see Wallace largely as a WR3, though he certainly has the upside for more. But concerns about Tannehill and who will be at center with Mike Pouncey out are legitimate reasons to not get ahead of ourselves.|

49ers | Stevie Johnson impresses Fri Jul 25, 11:32 AM
San Francisco 49ers WR Stevie Johnson (hamstring) looked healthy in Day 1 of training camp. QB Colin Kaepernick raved about Johnson's quickness and deceptiveness that fuel his ability to create separation.
|Footballguys view: A fresh start in a new place could be just the thing for Stevie Styles. While he's down in the pecking order behind Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, long term he could still have some impact. Short term, unless there is an injury ahead of him, Johnson is still just a WR5/6 - worth a flier but not a reliable option.|

Redskins | Robert Griffin III in sync with Andre Roberts Fri Jul 25, 10:51 AM
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III and WR Andre Roberts are displaying good chemistry in practice Friday, July 25.
|Footballguys view: Good news for Roberts and the Washington passing game here. Roberts was upset when the team added DeSean Jackson earlier this year because he assumed he was going to be the WR2 opposite Pierre Garcon. He'll get over it, and now they will use him as a slot receiver. We're expecting a robust passing game from Washington this year, but Roberts has little fantasy value.|

Dolphins | Shelley Smith the front runner at center Fri Jul 25, 10:41 AM
Updating an earlier report, Miami Dolphins OG Shelley Smith was told he's the guy at center shortly before camp. Smith said he has never started at center at any level.
|Footballguys view: Center is critical for the Dolphins, who could be without Mike Pouncey until late October. The inexperience could be a real issue for this offense as the center needs to be on top of the calls an a bad center could make for a bad offense. Luckily they have Brandon Albert on the left side and hopefully Smith will be up to speed by the end of preseason. He has to be. Watch this closely.|
Saints | Kenny Stills pulls up lame Fri Jul 25, 10:40 AM
New Orleans Saints WR Kenny Stills (leg) pulled up lame on a deep route in practice Friday, July 25, and is being examined by trainers.
|Footballguys view: If Stills is down for a period of time, it might open things up for rookie Brandin Cooks and Nick Toon, who has been gaining buzz this offseason. There are a lot of targets to go around with the departure of Darren Sproles so this is worth watching. Right now, Stills is a WR4 with some upside.|

Ravens | Will Hill signs Fri Jul 25, 10:37 AM
The Baltimore Ravens signed free-agent FS Will Hill (AFL) to an undisclosed deal. He's suspended for the first six games.
|Footballguys view: Much like the New England Patriots and Brandon Browner, this is a long-term investment. Hill was a great safety last season and put together some nice fantasy points with 77 tackles. But while it is high reward for the Ravens, it is also high risk as this suspension was for his third suspension since entering the NFL. Another one could put him out for a very long time.|
NFL | Will Hill loses appeal Fri Jul 25, 10:26 AM
Free-agent FS Will Hill (Giants) lost his appeal for his six-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy. Hill signed with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League in the offseason.
|Footballguys view: Hill had a great season but the suspension is his third since he was drafted. He needs to get his head on straight if he is going to reach his potential.|
Saints | Nick Toon impressing Fri Jul 25, 10:24 AM
New Orleans Saints WR Nick Toon looks poised for big things this season, according to beat writer Jim Corbett. He shields well and looks like a tight end at 6-foot-4.
|Footballguys view: Toon has quietly been gathering buzz this offseason. He's absolutely worth a later round flier, but his stock could rise in the coming weeks. Right now he looks like a lock for the No. 4 spot and a good camp could get him more.|

Jets | Chris Ivory returns Fri Jul 25, 10:05 AM
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) returned to practice Friday, July 25.
|Footballguys view: We'll see how long this lasts as Ivory's hamstring is more of an issue than Achilles' tendon was during the siege of Troy. In case that's too high-falutin' for you it means it's not good. Even if Ivory looks great in camp, his constant nagging injuries and the presence of Chris Johnson make him no more than an RB4 for fantasy owners.|

Chiefs | Sean McGrath absent Fri Jul 25, 09:43 AM
Kansas City Chiefs TE Sean McGrath is absent from training camp Friday, July 25, and may be cut.
|Footballguys view: ESPN's Adam Teicher has reported that McGrath is considering retirement. McGrath had the most passing yards among the tight ends last year though that amounted to a whopping 26 catches on 40 targets for 302 yards. So, not all that much. We'll watch this, but there really aren't any fantasy viable tight ends on the roster.|

Titans | Jurrell Casey to report Fri Jul 25, 09:39 AM
Tennessee Titans DT Jurrell Casey will report to camp Friday, July 25, as talks continue on a contract extension.
|Footballguys view: The two sides have been talking for some time, so it's not a shock that he's in camp. It's likely a good sign that they'll work something out sooner than later. He had 10.5 sacks last year - a huge leap from the 5.5 he'd had total in his first two years - and the Titans will want to lock him up before he repeats the feat and hits the market. Be cautious with relying on him too much in fantasy IDP leagues though - if he sees the sack totals drop, his tackles don't produce a ton of fantasy points.|

Saints | Three sitting Fri Jul 25, 09:36 AM
New Orleans Saints FS Jairus Byrd (back), OT Tavon Rooks (back) and DT John Jenkins (pectoral) are running with trainers on the sidelines and doing individual drills Friday, July 25.
|Footballguys view: It's early, so any running is a good sign. The team will be cautious with all three - especially Byrd, their biggest off-season acquisition. We'll see plenty of them in the coming weeks though.|
Jairus Byrd player page
Titans | Andy Levitre out two weeks Fri Jul 25, 09:29 AM
Tennessee Titans OG Andy Levitre (appendicitis) will miss two weeks after having an appendectomy Thursday, July 24.
|Footballguys view: This wouldn't seem like an issue if he hadn't missed the whole offseason program as he was recovering from a hip issue. At the end of the day, Levitre is a workhorse and doesn't miss games so he should be fine. Hopefully that will continue to be the case and he gets healthy in time for Week 1 as the team needs the stability.|
Rams | Sammy Brown a week away Fri Jul 25, 09:04 AM
St. Louis Rams LB Sammy Brown (calf) is about a week away from practicing because of a calf issue.
|Footballguys view: He didn't make the cut last year when they tried to convert him to defensive end. If he doesn't get on the field soon, he may not make it this year either.|
Rams | William Hayes ahead of schedule Fri Jul 25, 09:04 AM
St. Louis Rams DE William Hayes (undisclosed) had three surgeries this offseason and is ahead of schedule. He's on pace to make his preseason debut in Week 2 or 3 of the preseason.
|Footballguys view: Details on his surgeries have been sketchy, and likely were minor things to clean up some loose bodies or something. He'll be the third defensive end and rotate in for Chris Long and Robert Quinn on occasion.|
William Hayes player page
Rams | Jake Long to be limited Fri Jul 25, 08:58 AM
St. Louis Rams OT Jake Long (knee) will be limited at the start of training camp, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Long will participate in individual drills to start.
|Footballguys view: They'll take it slowly with Long as they need him for the long hall (pun not intended). Consider this a good time to get some reps in for the backups just in case. Long is expected to be ready for Week 1.|
Rams | Sam Bradford to participate in full Fri Jul 25, 08:57 AM
St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford (knee) will be a full participant at the start of training camp, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Fisher said Bradford was unlikely to play in the first preseason game, but not because of the injury.
|Footballguys view: Bradford has a critical season ahead of him, so the more practice the better. He needs to stay healthy first and foremost, so even if that's not something Fisher will cop to, it has to play a factor in him not playing in the first preseason game (assuming that happens). This offense has everything Bradford could ask for - solid offensive line, decent receivers and a very good running game. Despite the weapons around him, Bradford is no more than a QB3 right now as we have a hard time trusting him to be productive given his track record.|
Sam Bradford player page
Jets | Chris Johnson moving around Fri Jul 25, 08:48 AM
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson was put in motion and flexed out wide a lot in practice Thursday, July 24.
|Footballguys view: Johnson could have a very good year, especially with the early reminder that Chris Ivory is a walking injury report (thanks hamstring!). We have CJ?K as a high end RB3 right now, but he has some upside, especially if Ivory is continually banged up.|

Texans | Andre Johnson reports to camp Fri Jul 25, 08:23 AM
Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson has reported to camp Friday, July 25. The two sides are still in contact about an extension.

Cardinals | Bruce Arians talks up his defense Fri Jul 25, 02:54 AM
Arizona Cardinals LBs Kevin Minter and Larry Foote are expected to start next to each other at each inside linebacker spot in Arizona's 3-4 defense, replacing last year's starters, LBs Daryl Washington (suspended) and Karlos Dansby (Browns). Minter played one snap on defense as a rookie in 2013, but is expected to be an upgrade against the run from last year's interior duo. Foote, 34, enters his 13th year in the NFL, giving head coach Bruce Arians a contrasting pair inside. You would think, with a first-year head coach and a first-year general manager ... we would both have a pass if we wanted to say, you know, I think we need some more time to turn this thing around.
