Jaguars | Chad Henne still the starter    Mon Sep 15, 01:48 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne is still the starting quarterback for now, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Footballguys view: And here we see the stubbornness of Bradley. Henne is a poor starter, and he quite frankly doesn't give the team the best chance to win. Blake Bortles was drafted in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft, and he's the QB of the future. Might as well start playing him now to give him valuable experience.

Rams | Tavon Austin to miss time    Mon Sep 15, 01:40 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) has been diagnosed with a sprained medial collateral ligament and is expected to miss around two weeks, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners weren't relying on Austin anyway...and now they can feel free letting him go in more shallow leagues. He's a fine talent, but he's not used the right way in the mind-numbing and boring Brian Schottenheimer offense.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer wasn't close to playing    Mon Sep 15, 01:35 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) said he wasn't close to playing in Week 2 against the New York Giants. He described his injury as a nerve in his right shoulder that is in deep sleep. Palmer suffered the injury in Week 1 when he went down on a running play, and he's not sure when he'll be able to return. 'They said my shoulder was stretched out and I landed on the nerve, shut the nerve down,' Palmer said. 'It's just one of those things you've just go to wait and hope it wakes up. There's no, 'it needs 48 hours. It needs six days, it needs 12 days. You just don't know.' QB Drew Stanton went 14-for-29 for 167 yards in his absence.

Footballguys view: We could see Stanton as the starter again in Palmer is not ready to go. Monitor his practice participation this week to determine whether or not he'll be ready to go anytime soon.

Cardinals | Tyrann Mathieu makes debut    Mon Sep 15, 01:32 PM

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) played for the first time in Week 2 against the New York Giants since suffering two torn knee ligaments last December. He was used in limited packages against the Giants when the team used seven defensive backs. Mathieu finished the game with one tackle.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller in walking boot    Mon Sep 15, 01:27 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills in a walking boot Sunday, Sept. 14, and his status for Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs isn't known.

Footballguys view: Knowshon Moreno is already banged up with an elbow injury that could keep him out multiple weeks. The team needs Miller to be healthy as the lead back. We'll see if he can get back to practice fully later in the week.

Saints | Mark Ingram injury update    Mon Sep 15, 01:26 PM

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (hand) suffered a broken hand in the team's Week 2 game and will miss at least four weeks, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Just when you thought Ingram was going to be a steal of your draft/waiver wire. Ingram runs with a lot of passion, but he doesn't care about his personal safety. This style has caused him to get banged up quite a bit as a pro. We'll see more from Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas with Ingram out.

Dolphins | Dolphins struggling to execute offense    Mon Sep 15, 01:25 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill struggled to deliver accurate passes in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, and TE Charles Clay had several dropped passes. Tannehill was 5-for-16 (31 percent) on third downs, and the team was sluggish in the running game. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor likes to spread the field and create one-on-one matchups, but the Dolphins might not have the talent to run his schemes the way they were meant to be designed.

Dolphins | Chris McCain doesn't play much    Mon Sep 15, 01:18 PM

Miami Dolphins LB Chris McCain (illness) hardly played at all in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills after being a big contributor in the Week 1 victory. McCain missed two days of practice last week with an illness, so there is a chance he wasn't 100 percent healthy.

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts could practice    Mon Sep 15, 01:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) was able to run Monday, Sept. 15, and may be able to participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Footballguys view: With rookie Allen Hurns banged up, the team needs Shorts back on the field ASAP. They won't rush him back into the lineup, but he could be good to go for Week 3.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson reinstated    Mon Sep 15, 01:14 PM

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson was reinstated after being deactivated in Week 2 against the New England Patriots following his arrest on a charge of causing injury to his son by disciplining him with a tree branch.

Footballguys view: Peterson should be back on the field in Week 3. It looks as though the league is going to allow for due process in the legal system before handing down a punishment on Peterson.

Chargers | Ryan Mathews out 4-5 weeks    Mon Sep 15, 01:12 PM

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (knee) suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners who selected Mathews should have been prepared for this. The veteran is a talented runner, but he's one of the most oft-injured player in the league. Mathews could miss four to five weeks, although he's hoping to return before that.

Redskins | Darrel Young has sprained back    Mon Sep 15, 01:07 PM

Jaguars | Marcedes Lewis out for a while    Mon Sep 15, 01:04 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (ankle) will be sidelined for six to eight weeks because of a high ankle sprain.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners thinking they had something here need to put that idea to rest. Lewis had looked good this season, and he was producing at a decent level catching passes from Chad Henne.

Redskins | DeSean Jackson day-to-day    Mon Sep 15, 12:57 PM

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson (shoulder) is listed as day-to-day after being diagnosed with an AC joint sprain in Week 2. Jackson left the game in the first quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Jackson plays all out, and because of that he'll often get banged up. Monitor Washington's practice reports to see when Jackson can get back onto the field. If he misses any time, then it will increase the opportunity for Andre Roberts.

Redskins | No fractures for Robert Griffin    Mon Sep 15, 12:53 PM

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (ankle) isn't dealing with a fractured ankle, according to an MRI exam, and he doesn't think surgery is necessary. The best-case scenario for Griffin to recover from the injury is six to eight weeks, according to several surgeons.

Footballguys view: Well, this is good news but it still indicates that Griffin will be out for about half the season. By the time he returns, Kirk Cousins could have the starting job locked up. Fantasy owners who took a chance on Griffin have to go in a different direction.

Broncos | Emmanuel Sanders reaches century mark    Mon Sep 15, 12:39 PM

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders led the team with eight catches for 108 yards in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was the first 100-yard game of his career.

Footballguys view: Sanders called Denver "wide receiver heaven" for a reason. He's clearly a major part of the passing game, and we don't expect his target total to dip that much upon the return of Wes Welker. Sanders is the replacement for Eric Decker, and he doesn't run the same routes as Welker does...even though he can play the slot if necessary.

Saints | Mark Ingram out a month    Mon Sep 15, 12:29 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (hand) is expected to miss roughly a month after injuring his hand in Week 2, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners were just getting excited about Ingram after he produced at a high level for two weeks in a row. With this injury, we should see more from Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson expected to play    Mon Sep 15, 11:52 AM

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is expected to play in Week 3 following his deactivation in Week 2, the team announced Monday, Sept. 15. He will participate in practice fully this week.

Footballguys view: The league could let the legal process run its course before deciding on action with Peterson. The team should give him his normal workload even as this controversy swirls around him. Monitor his practice during the week to see if in fact the team will play him in Week 3.

Jets | NYJ RB trio splits snaps    Mon Sep 15, 11:47 AM

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson played 27 snaps in Week 2, while RB Chris Ivory played 27 and RB Bilal Powell played 17 snaps Sunday, Sept. 14.

Footballguys view: Ivory looked the best out of the Jets backs on Sunday, but this is a situation that could change from week to week. Johnson and Ivory are flex plays in this three-headed RBBC. Powell isn't worth adding to rosters just yet, but he could have value if either Ivory or Johnson get banged up.

Dolphins | Daniel Thomas re-signs    Mon Sep 15, 11:17 AM

The Miami Dolphins re-signed RB Daniel Thomas to an undisclosed deal Monday, Sept. 15.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Knowshon Moreno could miss an extended period of time with an elbow injury, and Thomas makes for a smart move. Lamar Miller could just get a larger role going forward. Don't expect Thomas to step into the Moreno role and get a large number of touches. Thomas is just veteran insurance.

49ers | Vernon Davis on crutches    Mon Sep 15, 11:00 AM

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) was on crutches after leaving the Week 2 game Sunday, Sept. 14, due to a sprained left ankle. He's expected to be evaluated Monday, Sept. 15.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to watch this news item closely. We'll see if he can get back to practice at some point later in the week.

Bengals | A.J. Green has foot strain    Mon Sep 15, 10:56 AM

Updating earlier reports, Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (foot) has a strained ligament in his foot, as opposed to the original diagnosis of turf toe. It's unclear whether it's an aggravation of the injury that caused him to miss practice Thursday, Sept. 11, or if it's a new injury.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin should play in Week 3    Mon Sep 15, 10:41 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) has a good chance to play in Week 3 on Thursday Night Football. The team held him out of the Week 2 game to ensure that he would be ready for Week 3 at Atlanta. RB Bobby Rainey, who had 22 carries for 144 yards in Week 2, could be heavily involved as well.

Footballguys view: Rainey looks better than Martin. It's a tough pill to swallow for some, but that's what we've seen unfold so far in 2014. We think Rainey has played his way into a RBBC with Martin based on his solid play.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles whispers begin    Mon Sep 15, 10:03 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles was not considered to play in Week 2 as QB Chad Henne was sacked 10 times in the game. However, head coach Gus Bradley wouldn't comment on whether they will consider starting Bortles in Week 3.

Footballguys view: What are they waiting for? Yes, we know--the team really WANTS to keep him on the bench his rookie year for, um, development purposes (?). The fact of the matter is that Henne is a poor starter, and Bortles could be gaining valuable experience this year. We'll see if the change is made in the near future.

Bengals | A.J. Green hopes to play    Mon Sep 15, 10:01 AM

Bengals | A.J. Green could miss time    Mon Sep 15, 09:57 AM

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) doesn't have a significant injury and would likely return for Week 5 after the bye week if he's unable to play in Week 3. The injury was related to the injury that forced him to miss practice Thursday, Sept. 11.

Footballguys view: The Bengals need to be cautious here. Their passing game is already without Marvin Jones, so if Green misses any time then Mohammed Sanu will get a more prominent role in the offense.

Saints | Marques Colston shut out    Mon Sep 15, 09:25 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston was held without a reception Sunday, Sept. 14. It was the first time he didn't record a catch in a game since 2008.

Footballguys view: Colston has had a rough start to begin the 2014 season. The fumble in Week 1 cost the Saints the game, and now this. We'll see if the veteran can bounce back in the coming weeks and be that solid-yet-unspectacular WR2 he's been for years.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles has X-rays    Mon Sep 15, 08:58 AM

Jets | Eric Decker update    Mon Sep 15, 08:16 AM

Updating previous reports, New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) injured the same hamstring that bothered him in training camp Sunday, Sept. 14. However, this injury is believed to be more severe and will have an MRI.

Footballguys view: Here we go again. Hamstring injuries are known to linger if not treated properly. The Jets will need to monitor him closely, and they certainly won't rush him back until he's ready. Decker's fantasy owners need to have other plans in place.

Footballguys view: Hold your breath fantasy owners.

Rams | Tavon Austin injured    Mon Sep 15, 03:08 AM

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) sustained a knee injury during the team's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Austin will undergo more tests Monday, Sept. 15.

Footballguys view: The fantasy prospects for Austin are held down even if he is 1000 percent healthy. The Brian Schottenheimer offense just doesn't know how to get the most out of a player like Austin.

Buccaneers | Gerald McCoy has broken hand    Mon Sep 15, 03:05 AM

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno could miss more time    Mon Sep 15, 02:56 AM

Clarifying a previous item, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) will miss at least four weeks, but it could be as many as eight weeks depending on his rehab.

Footballguys view: Moreno runs with little to no regard for his personal safety. Fans and teammates love his heart, passion and desire, but that playing style leads to plenty of injuries. Moreno has rarely made it through an extended period of time without getting banged up to varying degrees.

Rams | Shaun Hill is the starter    Mon Sep 15, 02:43 AM

St. Louis Rams QB Shaun Hill (thigh) will return to the starting role when healthy, according to Rams coach Jeff Fisher. QB Austin Davis has filled in for the past two weeks.

Footballguys view: Davis didn't look terrible in Week 2. Brian Quick's fantasy owners are certainly happy with the way Davis kept feeding their player the rock. Fantasy owners in deep dynasty leagues should be encouraged by Davis' play, but he's still only a decent backup option and not some diamond in the rough.

Vikings | Matt Cassel to remain starter    Mon Sep 15, 02:30 AM

Despite throwing four interceptions in a 30-7 loss to the New England Patriots Sunday, Sept. 14, Minnesota Vikings QB Matt Cassel will remain the starter. "As I've said before, I'm going to hold the quarterback position just like every position here to the same standard," Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said. "And I also said I wasn't going to have a quick hook. Matt needs to play better. It's pretty obvious he needs to play better."

Footballguys view: Why? Cassel doesn't give the team the best chance to win, and there's no reason to think he does. Rookie Teddy Bridgewater was selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft, and he's the quarterback of the future. Might as well make the future now. Bridgewater is likely to start at some point this season, so the Vikings would be wise to make the change.
