Denver Broncos defensive backs coach Joe Woods will be named the team's new defensive coordinator, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Woods is an up-and-coming coach in NFL ranks, and the team can keep the Wade Phillips system with Woods taking over. A very popular coach among the Broncos players, Woods helped craft the "No Fly Zone" aka the best secondary in the NFL. The Broncos defense should continue to be tough on opposing quarterbacks in 2017.

Broncos | Denver unlikely to trade for Tony Romo    Sun Jan 15, 01:49 PM

The Denver Broncos are not inclined to trade for Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo this offseason even though they are Romo's No. 1 preferred spot, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Romo struggled to stay healthy behind the league's best O-Line...what in the world could he possibly do behind Denver's Swiss cheese unit? The Broncos added Peyton Manning and it resulted in two Super Bowl appearances and one World Championship. We can't say that adding Romo would yield similar results. They're seemingly set with 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch and 2016 starter Trevor Siemian.

Steelers | Antonio Brown may receive lucrative deal    Sun Jan 15, 01:08 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown may receive a contract extension this offseason that would make him the highest paid receiver in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Brown is arguably the best receiver in Steelers history. Think about that....with Hall of Fame potential, the Steelers should make Brown the highest-paid wide receiver in the league. The deal could pay him more than the $15 million that Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green receives per season.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is doing well in his recovery from a serious knee injury but there are too many factors in the recovery to determine a return date for Bridgewater.

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald hasn't committed to playing in 2017, and head coach Bruce Arians said he won't try to convince Fitzgerald to return because the decision to play should be his call.

Footballguys view: We don't think Fitzgerald is done...at least we hope not. The Cardinals are likely to keep most of the band together for yet another run in 2017. They could make a push for the playoffs with an aging Carson Palmer if Fitzgerald keeps playing.

Footballguys view: Lacy had serious ankle surgery, but all signs indicate he'll be ready for the start of the regular season. He's entering free agency on a down note after being limited to only five games in 2016. There's a good chance the Packers bring him back at a cheap price.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor dropped six of his 66 targets this season, and his drop rate of 9.1 percent was the third worst in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Agholor just hasn't looked comfortable at the pro level. His best performance of 2016 came in Week 1 (four catches, 57 yards, one touchdown) against the Browns. Dynasty owners are holding onto Agholor, but nobody should expect a turnaround any time soon.

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones' (foot) foot injury is not a cause for concern, according to head coach Dan Quinn, and Quinn said Jones could have returned against the Seattle Seahawks Saturday, Jan 14, if needed.

Footballguys view: Jones finished the game with six catches for 67 yards and one touchdown. The Falcons were winning by a good margin and didn't need to rush Jones back into the lineup. They'll need him healthy in the NFC Championship Game next week.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson up and down in loss    Sat Jan 14, 08:44 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson completed 17 of his 30 pass attempts for 225 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions and ran six times for 49 yards in a 36-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons Saturday, Jan. 14.

Footballguys view: Wilson was the team's leading rusher and was off the mark on some throws that he'd love to have back. It was a down season for Wilson as he battled through injury all year and had to play behind a Swiss cheese offensive line. The Seahawks should upgrade the front five in the offseason and Wilson should bounce back in 2017.
