49ers | Colin Kaepernick not cleared yet Fri May 13, 04:17 PM
San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder, thumb, knee) has not been cleared to fully participate in offseason workouts at this point but may be able to participate during the mandatory minicamp in June.
|Footballguys view: Kaepernick is recovering from three surgeries, and he may not be at full strength until training camp hits. Some thought he would get traded before the draft, but now it looks like he's going to compete with Blaine Gabbert for the starting job with the 49ers.|

Jaguars | Myles Jack signs deal Fri May 13, 04:02 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars second-round draft pick LB Myles Jack signed his four-year contract Friday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: The Jaguars made a great move when they traded up to get Jack near the top of the second round in the 2016 NFL draft. He's a throwback football player with the attitude and intimidating presence that scouts drool over. Jack fell in the draft due to a knee injury that may one day require microfracture surgery. Dr. James Andrews revealed that Jack does not currently need the surgery, and there's a chance he could play for several years without needing the procedure.|
Chargers | Keenan Allen will be a focal point Fri May 13, 03:47 PM
San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen will be a focal point on offense in 2016, but he will have to show he can beat man coverage against some of the better cornerbacks in the league, according to offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.
|Footballguys view: That's good news for the Chargers...so long as Allen can stay healthy. The team wants to run the ball with Melvin Gordon, but when they go to the air it should be Allen as the primary target. They added Travis Benjamin in free agency earlier this year to help stretch the field as a vertical threat. Allen has WR1 upside--again--if he can stay healthy.|

Chargers | San Diego to use all RBs Fri May 13, 03:46 PM
San Diego Chargers RBs Melvin Gordon, Danny Woodhead and Branden Oliver will all receive playing time in 2016, according to offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.
|Footballguys view: Whisenhunt said there will be times that two of the running backs will be on the field at the same time. The team will have packages for each running back so they can put them in positions where they will succeed. This RBBC may be something fantasy owners want to avoid. However, Woodhead should once again provide value for players in PPR leagues.|

Ravens | Jerraud Powers joining Ravens Fri May 13, 02:56 PM
Free-agent CB Jerraud Powers (Cardinals) will sign with the Baltimore Ravens on a one-year deal Friday, May 13, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Powers has been with the Cardinals over the last three seasons after coming over as a free agent from the Colts. In 2015, he posted 41 total tackles with one interception, one sack, 10 passes defensed and two fumble recoveries. He'll compete with Shareece Wright for a starting job at corner for the Ravens.|

Texans | Nick Martin signs rookie pact Fri May 13, 02:40 PM
Houston Texans C Nick Martin signed his rookie four-year deal Friday, May 13.
|Footballguys view: Martin was the team's second-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, and he should be a quality player for years to come. He's strong and has a nasty attitude in the trenches. Martin is versatile and can line up at guard or center.|
Patriots | Joey Iosefa re-signs with Pats Fri May 13, 02:29 PM
Free-agent RB Joey Iosefa is re-signing with the New England Patriots Friday, May 13.
|Footballguys view: A seventh-round pick for the Buccaneers in 2015, Iosefa was bounced from Tampa only to end up with the Brooklyn Bolts in the FXFL and then with the Patriots. He led the team in rushing (51 yards on 14 carries) in their December win over the Titans last year, and then Iosefa was signed to a futures contract after the season was over. He was released last week, only to be brought back now. Buried on the depth chart right now, Iosefa is no lock for the final roster.|
Ravens | Marlon Brown among Ravens' cuts Fri May 13, 02:19 PM
Baltimore Ravens WR Marlon Brown (failed physical), DB Jermaine Whitehead, S Nick X. Perry and DE Nordly Capi were released Friday, May 13.
|Footballguys view: It was all downhill for Brown after his rookie season in 2013. That year, Brown had 49 catches for 524 yards and a whopping seven touchdowns. He failed to even match those numbers combined over the next two seasons. Brown may have trouble latching on with another team.|

Ravens | Ronnie Stanley signs rookie deal Fri May 13, 02:19 PM
Baltimore Ravens OT Ronnie Stanley signed his four-year rookie contract Friday, May 13. All first-round picks have fifth-year options in their deals.
|Footballguys view: What stands out most about Stanley are his violent striking hands. He does a good job of striking his opponent quickly and forcefully, and he can control his man at the point of attack. Stanley is known as a durable and dependable player who should be a solid starter for the Ravens for years to come.|
Browns | Corey Coleman signs first deal Fri May 13, 12:15 PM
Cleveland Browns WR Corey Coleman signed his rookie four-year deal Friday, May 13. All first-round picks have fifth-year options in their contracts.
|Footballguys view: Coleman's game is all about speed, speed and more speed. With Travis Benjamin moving on in free agency (Chargers), Coleman should take over as the team's primary downfield target. Last year, Benjamin was WR29 in standard-scoring leagues and we think Coleman should be more in the 35-40 range.|
Jets | Jordan Jenkins inks rookie deal Fri May 13, 12:09 PM
New York Jets LB Jordan Jenkins signed his rookie four-year deal Friday, May 13.
|Footballguys view: Jenkins has high football intelligence and properly diagnoses plays as they unfold in front of him. He plays with great strength and has long arms to snare ball-carriers with ease.|
NFL | Greg Hardy devoid of suitors Fri May 13, 12:09 PM
Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Cowboys) is having trouble finding a team, and the prevailing opinion from general managers around the league is that no one wants him.
|Footballguys view: This is not shocking news. Hardy may be able to rush the passer, but he's a PR nightmare off the field. We'd be surprised if someone picks him up to play in 2016.|
Greg Hardy player page
Panthers | Vernon Butler signs rookie deal Fri May 13, 08:50 AM
Carolina Panthers DT Vernon Butler signed his four-year rookie contract Friday, May 13. All first-round deals have a fifth-year option.
|Footballguys view: The Panthers already have great players on their defensive line, and Butler should fit right in. He's huge, has long arms and has the agility to get off the line quickly and create interior pressure on the quarterback. He'll begin his pro career as a rotational player behind Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short.|
Dolphins | Miami to use Kenyan Drake's versatility Thu May 12, 09:53 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake will be used in as many ways as possible as a rookie. 'You look at his career, he's done a little bit of everything,' special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi said. 'He's caught passes. He's run the ball well. He's had high yards per carry. He's caught the ball out of the backfield. He's covered kicks.'
|Footballguys view: We're not sold on most of the backfield, though Jay Ajayi is going to be the lead back. Don't be shocked if Drake gets a fair amount of snaps though, as Ajayi is just as unproven as the rookie.|
Falcons | Devin Hester has green light on kicks Thu May 12, 09:30 PM
Atlanta Falcons WR Devin Hester (toe) could be fully recovered from toe surgery prior to training camp, according to head coach Dan Quinn, and Quinn said he is inclined to allow Hester to try to return kicks out of the end zone. 'There are special players like Dev and other returners around the league, they'll still get green-lighted,' Quinn said. 'Here's a guy who is on the club for this unique reason.'Link to story

Seahawks | Marshawn Lynch hasn't filed papers Thu May 12, 09:18 PM
Retired Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch hasn't filed retirement papers, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, and he has not contacted the team about his plans for 2016.
|Footballguys view: We'll see if this is Marshawn just doing his own thing or something more. If you have room on a dynasty roster, why not stash him? You never know with Lynch.|

Jets | Christian Hackenberg financials Thu May 12, 07:58 PM
Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg's four-year rookie contract is worth $4.66 million.
|Footballguys view: Hackenberg will have a chance to win the starting job, but we're not touching him if he does. His shell-shocked attitude behind the offensive line will take time to get rid of, if it ever happens at all. The Jets quarterback situation is shaky, though Geno Smith is a little intriguing given the success the very average Ryan Fitzpatrick had in Chan Gailey's offense and the weapons the Jets have on offense.|
Browns | Cody Kessler will practice Thu May 12, 07:53 PM
Cleveland Browns rookie QB Cody Kessler will still practice at the rookie minicamp even if he doesn't sign by the start of camp Thursday, May 12, due to the injury protection clause.
|Footballguys view: Kessler is who he is - a guy who won't make a lot of mistakes but who is risk averse to a fault. He's unlikely to be a threat to Robert Griffin III in his rookie year, and we're not sure we expect much of him down the road either. That said, Hue Jackson has made decent quarterbacks look great before, so we have some hope.|
Browns | Two rookies sign Thu May 12, 07:48 PM
Cleveland Browns rookie WR Jordan Payton and LB Scooby Wright III signed their four-year rookie deals Thursday, May 12.
|Footballguys view: Payton is an interesting later round addition. Given the lack of veteran receivers in Cleveland, and his skillset (possession receiver), Payton could turn into a decent WR3 or WR4 in a PPR league.|
Raiders | Sign Jaydon Mickens Thu May 12, 07:36 PM
Undrafted free-agent WR Jaydon Mickens (Washington) signed with the Oakland Raiders Thursday, May 12.Link to story
Seahawks | Trevone Boykin could be backup Thu May 12, 06:47 PM
Seattle Seahawks QB Trevone Boykin has a good shot at earning the backup quarterback position behind QB Russell Wilson, with only QB Jake Heaps with whom to compete. Head coach Pete Carroll thinks Boykin's style of play fits well with Seattle's offense and is similar to Wilson.
|Footballguys view: Wilson is still the man here, and with his contract running until the end of the 2019 NFL season, that won't change but Boykin is a good safety net against serious injury as he will not require a change to the offense if Wilson is hurt.|

Giants | Minimal impact from Paul Perkins? Thu May 12, 05:05 PM
New York Giants rookie RB Paul Perkins isn't expected to have much of an impact in his rookie season, in the opinion of Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Vacchiano anticipates RB Andre Williams to have the first shot at being the short-yardage running back and Jennings' backup, with RB Shane Vereen reprising his pass-catching and third-down role.
|Footballguys view: Andre Williams has been sub-impressive so far, so we're not holding our breath. In fact, nobody in this backfield should feel good about their job security. There wasn't a 1000 yard back in the group last season either meaning, again, assume nothing. Perkins won't be someone to plug in early, but he's someone who could get opportunity later in the season.|

Giants | Rashad Jennings should remain lead back Thu May 12, 04:55 PM
New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings is expected to be the workhorse running back and receive the majority of carries in 2016, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Jennings saw 48.3% of the Giants' carries last season, but Vacchiano expects that to increase this season.
|Footballguys view: The rest of the group behind him is pretty unimpressive and Jennings still brings a lot to the table, so this isn't a shock. That said, if he gets up to speed quickly, rookie Paul Perkins could see a chunk of carries, especially if Jennings and the other backs struggle.|

Cowboys | No issues for Tony Romo Thu May 12, 04:14 PM
Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) has not had any issues physically so far during the Cowboys' offseason program, according to head coach Jason Garrett. Garrett said that Romo has almost completely integrated back into the offseason program, adding that Romo's back is feeling well, his shoulder seems fine, he's moving around well and he's made a lot of progress. Owner Jerry Jones said there's nothing negative about where Romo is in his current state. 'Everything they hoped to accomplish technically from appraisal of surgery has gone well. Everything he's done regarding his strength, everything regarding what he's wanted to do, he's been able to do,' Jones said.
|Footballguys view: The Cowboys addressed the quarterback position later in the draft, though they did try to trade back into the first to get Paxton Lynch so we know they aren't ignoring Romo's injury history. Still, Romo has no real competition and it will be a while until Dak Prescott is ready to take over, if he ever is. Romo, if healthy, should be a solid QB1 this season with the weapons he has on offense and what appears to be an great run game in the making, led by rookie Ezekiel Elliot.|

Vikings | Laquon Treadwell signs his rookie deal Thu May 12, 03:24 PM
Minnesota Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell signed his four-year rookie contract, including a fifth-year option Thursday, May 12.
|Footballguys view: Treadwell was the last rookie the Vikings had to sign. He plays faster than his Pro Day time of 4.65 and he's a fierce competitor for jump balls, so we are bullish on him long term. However, he will probably see more work blocking for Adrian Peterson, as offensive coordinator Norv Turner called more rushes than almost any other OC in the league and Treadwell is an excellent blocker. We don't know if the Vikings will throw enough to make Treadwell a viable option in fantasy.|
Jets | Christian Hackenberg inks rookie deal Thu May 12, 03:14 PM
New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg signed his four-year rookie contract Thursday, May 12.
|Footballguys view: Based on film study, Hackenberg is in no way ready to take over as the Jets starting quarterback, so the best case scenario is is to let him sit and help him get over the trauma of being destroyed the last two years behind shoddy offensive lines. Worst case scenario is the Jets and Ryan Fitzpatrick never come to terms, Geno Smith continues to be Geno Smith and Hackenberg needs to play during what looks to be a brutal schedule. Maybe Hackenberg can be repaired and find a way to play at the level he did when Bill O'Brien coached him at Penn State, but we're dubious about that.|

Buccaneers | Kenny Bell could stretch the field Thu May 12, 02:38 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Kenny Bell is a player the team hopes can serve as their speed receiver. Bell ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash but missed all last season with a hamstring injury.
|Footballguys view: Bell did nothing of note in his rookie season, so anything would be an upgrade at this point. With Vincent Jackson aging, there is room to make an impact so he's worth keeping an eye on - though that's about all right now.|
Kenny Bell player page
Eagles | Carson Wentz terms Thu May 12, 02:20 PM
Updating an earlier report, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz's four-year deal is worth $26 million with a $17.6 million signing bonus.
|Footballguys view: It's in stark contrast to the money fellow Eagles signal caller Sam Bradford got when he was selected first overall in 2010 which was the largest ever by a rookie. With the money much more reasonable (Bradford's was a six-year, $78 million deal, which has $50 million of guarantee), the team can be cautious and take their time with Wentz. However, we know Bradford's injury history and his overall attitude after the draft, so it's not inconceivable that Wentz could take over this season. That makes this a shaky situation for fantasy and we'd tend to stay away from it.|

Bills | Kolby Listenbee signs Bills deal Thu May 12, 01:28 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Kolby Listenbee signed his rookie contract Thursday, May 12.
|Footballguys view: After Sammy Watkins there is a lot of room on the roster to make some noise. Of course, Tyrod Taylor limits your looks (after Watkins, Robert Woods caught the next most catches -80- but for just over 500 yards). We like Listenbee, but would be cautious about trusting any Bills receiver aside from Watkins.|

Eagles | Carson Wentz signs rookie pact Thu May 12, 01:16 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz is signing his rookie contract Thursday, May 12, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: Wentz will probably sit behind Sam Bradford, who is finally working with the team. Bradford will hold the job but injury and shakiness make him a questionable choice for fantasy as we could see Wentz by year's end.|

Saints | Michael Thomas contract details Thu May 12, 11:03 AM
Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas' rookie deal is worth $5.118 million with $3.055 million guaranteed and a $1.922 million signing bonus.
|Footballguys view: While he will compete with the likes of Willie Snead, Thomas' ball skills make him a potential player in PPR leagues this coming season, though as no more than a WR3 or WR4 until we see how big his role becomes.|
Titans | Delanie Walker contract details Thu May 12, 11:02 AM
Updating previous reports, Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker's new deal includes a $1 million roster bonus due Monday, May 16, and a $2.7 million guaranteed base this season, with up to $250,000 total in per-game roster bonuses. He has a $4.2 million base salary in 2017, fully guaranteed fifth day of league year, and up to $250,000 total in per-game roster bonuses. In 2018, he has a $500,000 roster bonus on fifth day of league year, a $5.4 million base and up to $250,000 total in per-game roster bonuses.
|Footballguys view: Walker picked a good time to top 1,000 yards for the first time in his ten year career. We think he has a shot to duplicate that, but see him as a TE2, as the offense matures past just dumping the ball to the tight end.|
Delanie Walker player page
Bears | Jordan Howard terms Thu May 12, 10:40 AM
Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard's rookie deal is worth $2,588,024 with a signing bonus of $248,024.
|Footballguys view: We think Jeremy Langford should get the bulk of Matt Forte's 218 carries from 2015, but Howard is an intriguing back. More of a downhill runner with good size, Howard just has to show he can pass protect and he might get more carries than we expect.|
Packers | Mutual interest in John Kuhn returning Thu May 12, 08:32 AM

Texans | Brock Osweiler learning new offense Wed May 11, 11:14 PM
Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler said Wednesday, May 11, that it has been fun learning a new offense and trying to get comfortable in his new surroundings. 'It's fun,' Osweiler said. 'It's hard to judge that progress because we haven't hit the practice field and gone against a defense, but it's like you speak Spanish your whole life and then all of a sudden one day, they tell you to go learn French and do it in front of 70,000 people.'
|Footballguys view: While not everyone here at Footballguys is a big Osweiler acolyte (Brockolyte?), even the most skeptical of us have been rolling our eyes over the concern about this. Every quarterback in a new system has referred to learning that system in this way. It's far too early to start rending your clothes and tearing out your hair over this. Many of us may not be sold on Osweiler, but this news blurb isn't anything to get worked up about yet.|

Cowboys | Stephen Jones challenges Dez Bryant Wed May 11, 10:04 PM
Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot, ankle) is still not quite 100 percent recovered from right foot and ankle surgeries in January, and he was limited to nine games in 2015. Executive vice president Stephen Jones issued a challenge Wednesday, May 11.
|Footballguys view: The Cowboys need Bryant to be 100% to rebound from a disappointing 2015. Bryant should be a WR1 in fantasy if he and Tony Romo are healthy.|
Dez Bryant player page
Broncos | C.J. Anderson the lead back Wed May 11, 08:35 PM
Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson will receive the bulk of the carries in 2016 with RB Ronnie Hillman providing a change of pace. RB Devontae Booker will have a chance to play on third downs if he can pick up pass protection.
|Footballguys view: There has been a misconception about the workload in Denver after the Broncos selected Booker in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. Booker is clearly a three-down-back-in-waiting, but Anderson is their bellcow. He proved last year in the postseason that he could carry a heavy workload, and Anderson received a $5 million bonus back in March as part of his new contract. The language of the NFL is money, and the Broncos have said (with their dollars) that Anderson is clearly the lead back.|
