Footballguys view: Thomas should be fine -- even though he's banged up....AGAIN. Consider him a low-end TE1 this week against the Colts.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson will practice    Wed Sep 28, 03:49 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson (ankle, knee) will participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28, and is on track to play in Week 4, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Footballguys view: Wilson may play in Week 4, but other options -- even waiver wire guys like Trevor Siemian (Broncos) -- could be better fantasy starters in Week 4. Since he's banged up, consider Wilson a high-end QB2 for fantasy on the road against the Jets this week.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant has hairline fracture    Wed Sep 28, 02:50 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) has a hairline fracture in his knee, but head coach Jason Garrett hopes Bryant will be able to play against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to find another option if possible just in case Bryant can't play. Bryant is considered day-to-day at this point. If he's out against the 49ers, then the team would turn to WR Cole Beasley and TE Jason Witten to do the heavy lifting in the passing game. WR Terrance Williams would also be likely to be more involved without Bryant.

Panthers | Vernon Butler injury update    Wed Sep 28, 02:45 PM

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers DT Vernon Butler (ankle) said he expects to miss two to three weeks because of his high ankle sprain. He is currently in a walking boot because of the injury.

49ers | Torrey Smith should be fine    Wed Sep 28, 02:36 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith (ankle) suffered an apparent ankle injury during the team's Week 3 game, but head coach Chip Kelly said Smith will be fine.

Footballguys view: Smith will be fine, but fantasy owners aren't going to trust Smith in the lineup. He's a WR4 at best this week against the Cowboys.

49ers | Vance McDonald may miss time    Wed Sep 28, 02:31 PM

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald's (hip) status for Week 4 is uncertain because of a hip injury he suffered in Week 3. Head coach Chip Kelly said McDonald is not dealing with a long-term injury, but his status will not be known until later in the week.

Footballguys view: Garrett Celek and Blake Bell are the two behind McDonald on the depth chart. Bell, a converted QB from Oklahoma who has only played one year at TE, has the athleticism to make plays after the catch. Celek may get first crack at the starting job, but Bell is the player we'd be more excited about...but only in deep dynasty leagues.

49ers | Keshawn Martin may be returner    Wed Sep 28, 02:28 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Keshawn Martin is expected to be used as a kick and punt returner.

Footballguys view: That's why the team signed him. He'll do little to nothing as a receiver and Martin has no fantasy value.

49ers | Garrett Celek limited at practice    Wed Sep 28, 02:24 PM

San Francisco 49ers TE Garrett Celek (undisclosed) is wearing a no-contact jersey during practice Wednesday, Sept. 28. Celek received a big hit during the team's Week 3 game.

Patriots | Jacoby Brissett on the field    Wed Sep 28, 02:08 PM

New England Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett (thumb) was throwing passes during practice Wednesday, Sept. 28, and did not appear to be bothered by his thumb injury.

Footballguys view: With Jimmy Garoppolo banged up, Brissett could start again this week. The rookie ran a limited number of plays last week against the Texans, but he led the team to a big win. If he starts against the Bills, consider him a QB2 for fantasy purposes.

Patriots | Jimmy Garoppolo throwing Wednesday    Wed Sep 28, 02:06 PM

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) was able to throw some passes during practice Wednesday, Sept. 28, and also worked on pocket mobility. He did not favor his shoulder during stretching or when he threw the ball.

Footballguys view: Garoppolo is experiencing limited motion and soreness in his injured shoulder according to reports. At this time, we'd say it looks like rookie Jacoby Brissett is going to start on Sunday against the Bills.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart out of practice    Wed Sep 28, 12:36 PM

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) is out of practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Footballguys view: Cameron Artis-Payne should start for the Panthers again this week. The rookie is worth considering as a RB3/flex play in Week 4 against the Falcons.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant out of practice    Wed Sep 28, 12:09 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) is out of practice Wednesday, Sept. 28, and head coach Jason Garrett said Bryant's knee was still under evaluation.

Footballguys view: We'll know more about Bryant's injury on Friday. Right now, it doesn't look good for his availability but it's too early to tell. Make other plans at WR if you can.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski avoids setback    Wed Sep 28, 11:55 AM

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) said he suffered no setbacks by playing in Week 3.

Footballguys view: Good news for Gronkowski and his fantasy owners. He's a TE1 versus the Bills in Week 4.

Ravens | Kenneth Dixon suited up    Wed Sep 28, 11:32 AM

Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (knee) was working off to the side in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Footballguys view: Dixon should be a preemptive pickup for all fantasy owners. He needs to get into shape, but he could emerge as the primary back in the Ravens backfield. Add him now and stash him. Dixon may not play this week against the Raiders but he's close.

Ravens | Elvis Dumervil practicing    Wed Sep 28, 11:30 AM

Baltimore Ravens LB Elvis Dumervil (foot) is practicing Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Footballguys view: Dumervil practiced last week, but he did not play against the Jaguars. He should be ready to go at home against the Raiders in Week 4.

Texans | J.J. Watt to IR    Wed Sep 28, 11:03 AM

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Footballguys view: It's official now, and we may not see Watt back this year. His recovery time may not allow him to be back in time to be the Texans 'designated to return' player. Devon Still and Antonio Smith will get more time with Watt out.

Titans | Marcus Mariota good against AFC South    Wed Sep 28, 11:01 AM

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has 866 passing yards, five touchdowns, 141 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in his last three games against AFC South teams.

Footballguys view: On the road against a Watt-less Texans defense, we can still only recommend Mariota as a QB2 in Week 4.

Patriots | Jacoby Brissett without a splint    Wed Sep 28, 10:13 AM

New England Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett (thumb) didn't have a splint or tape on his right thumb Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Footballguys view: Brissett could start for the Patriots this week if Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) can't play. It sounds like Brissett might be healthier and closer to playing than Garoppolo. Let's see if we get any more clarity by Friday.

Patriots | Jimmy Garoppolo lacks mobility in arm    Wed Sep 28, 10:11 AM

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) is still in pain and doesn't have full mobility in his right shoulder, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Garoppolo should be able to play this week, at least that's what early reports seem to suggest. However, if there's still pain and a lack of mobility in his shoulder then perhaps the Patriots will shut him down in favor of Jacoby Brissett.

Chiefs | Marcus Peters off to historic start    Wed Sep 28, 01:14 AM

Kansas City Chiefs CB Marcus Peters had two interceptions in Week 3 against the New York Jets. That gives Peters a dozen in 19 career regular season games, which is five more than anyone else in NFL history since the merger.

Footballguys view: Peters has the ability to be the best CB in the game -- and he's not too far off that mark. We will continue to watch his career with great interest.

Jaguars | Chris Ivory banged up in Week 3    Wed Sep 28, 01:10 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory (knee, ankle) suffered a sprained knee and ankle during the team's Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He played through the injuries, however, and was able to finish the game.

Footballguys view: Ivory was an interesting late-round pick in your fantasy draft, and there's a ton of you who have already moved on. The Jaguars defense isn't going to keep them in many games, so their rushing attack featuring T.J. Yeldon (and Ivory) won't get fed as much as hoped. The RB position may be thin on the waiver wire i your league, but Ivory isn't a must hold for fantasy owners. See if you can upgrade.

Jaguars | Kelvin Beachum cleared to return    Wed Sep 28, 01:05 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Kelvin Beachum (concussion) has cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and is set to return to practice Wednesday, Sept. 28. Beachum suffered the injury in Week 2.

Texans | Antonio Smith to re-sign    Wed Sep 28, 12:52 AM

Free-agent DE Antonio Smith (Broncos) will be signed by the Houston Texans as soon as DT J.J. Watt (back) is officially placed on IR Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Footballguys view: Smith did a good job as a reserve player for the Broncos, and he's good veteran depth for the Texans now that J.J. Watt is likely to miss the rest of the year.

Texans | J.J. Watt will be placed on IR    Wed Sep 28, 12:47 AM

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) will be placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday, Sept. 28, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Although he would be eligible to return Nov. 27, sources indicate Watt is 'probably' done for the season.

Footballguys view: Watt may have to have surgery for a herniated disc -- the same surgery he had this offseason. With the extended recovery time, Watt may not be able to be the team's 'designated to return' player. It's a huge blow to their team, and defensively they won't be as scary without Watt. Devon Still and newly signed Antonio Smith should get more playing time while Watt is out.

Bears | Jay Cutler not guaranteed starting job    Wed Sep 28, 12:00 AM

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) is not guaranteed to be the starter whenever he's medically cleared to return, according to head coach John Fox. Cutler apparently pushed to start in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys but was not cleared.

Footballguys view: The Fox/Cutler relationship has been an interesting one to watch. Last year, Cutler seemed to win his coach over as Fox didn't seem too excited to have Cutler on the team when he took over. Now, Cutler may have fallen out of favor. It really depends on how Brian Hoyer continues to play in Cutler's absence. Either way, we think the Bears (and Fox) look to find a new QB this offseason.

Panthers | Vernon Butler has high ankle sprain    Tue Sep 27, 11:59 PM

Carolina Panthers DT Vernon Butler (ankle) is expected to miss a few weeks after sustaining a high ankle sprain against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3.

Footballguys view: The rookie first-round pick has not been on the field that much this year for the Panthers as he's just a rotational player at this point in his career.
