  Jets | Michael Vick won't be re-signed    Thu Mar 19, 01:17 PM

Free-agent QB Michael Vick (Jets) won't be re-signed by the New York Jets this offseason.

Footballguys view: With Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick and a likely rookie quarterback, it's no shock Vick is gone. Especially since he was unprepared whenever it seemed his number was called. Can he find a new landing spot? It's hard to see after he looked like he cashed out halfway through last season. Although it was the Jets and a terrible Jets team at that - so maybe we shouldn't be too hard on him.

Dolphins | Jordan Cameron the go-to TE    Thu Mar 19, 01:15 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron will be the team's go-to tight end now that they didn't bring back TE Charles Clay, who signed an offer sheet with the Buffalo Bills. Cameron made the Pro Bowl in 2013 and has more athleticism than Clay, but Cameron has also dealt with multiple concussions.

Footballguys view: Cameron is tremendously talented, but at this point seems prone to concussions. That's the big gamble both for the Dolphins and fantasy owners. If he goes down, they just have guys like Dion Sims to step up. If he stays healthy though, this is a tight end heavy offense and he could put up a lot of points. That's a big 'if' but one worth exploring.

Steelers | Dri Archer will have role in offense    Thu Mar 19, 01:08 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Dri Archer will have a role on offense that will take advantage of his speed, but people have to be patient with his development, according to offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Archer could also be used as a kick returner next season.

Footballguys view: Archer is a very versatile back, but because of his size, that versatility will almost always have to do with speedy routes and screens and never much between the tackles. Assume LeVeon Bell returns to 100 percent, Archer will still be very limited and have inconsistent fantasy value.

Falcons | Atlanta eyeing Devin Funchess    Thu Mar 19, 12:11 PM

Michigan TE Devin Funchess worked out for the Atlanta Falcons this week as the draft approaches. Funchess is projected to be taken in the second round this year, and he has played both tight end and receiver. The Falcons had a league-low 241 yards from the tight end position in 2014, according to ESPN Stats and Information. New offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is used to getting plenty of production from his tight ends.

Footballguys view: While they signed Jacob Tamme, he's not a long-term fix. Funchess is a decent tight end prospect in a weak class. As the piece mentions, Shanahan needs a more prolific tight end, and Funchess can catch the ball. He could get a lot of work as a rookie.

Jets | James Brewer agrees to terms    Thu Mar 19, 11:33 AM

Free-agent OT James Brewer (Giants) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the New York Jets Thursday, March 19, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Jets are looking to add depth and that's really all Brewer is right now. Despite the problems the Giants had on the offensive line in 2014, Brewer only played in two games last season. He started eight games in 2013 and didn't look special. Maybe he gets a chance with the Jets given he can play guard or tackle and they need the bodies. But he's yet to show anything remarkable.

Dolphins | Tarvaris Jackson, J.D. Walton visiting    Thu Mar 19, 11:32 AM

Free-agent QB Tarvaris Jackson (Seahawks) and C J.D. Walton (Giants) are scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Walton would be an interesting pickup, though he was shaky for the Giants last season. Jackson is no more than a third-string backup at best and maybe not even that.

Dolphins | Miami will not match Charles Clay offer    Thu Mar 19, 11:20 AM

Miami Dolphins transition free-agent TE Charles Clay's five-year, $38 million offer sheet he signed with the Buffalo Bills will not be matched by the Dolphins, according to a source. Clay will now become a member of the Buffalo Bills.

Footballguys view: Once Jordan Cameron was in the house, that house had writing on the wall for Charles Clay. Clay is a fine tight end and might have been helpful with Cameron having suffered multiple concussions. If that rears its ugly head again this season, the Dolphins have to hope Dion Sims, Jake Stoneburner or another depth tight end can step up. We like Sims to emerge if Cameron is down.

Jets | Marcus Mariota an option for Jets    Thu Mar 19, 11:16 AM

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota has not been ruled out as an option for the New York Jets first-round draft choice, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Footballguys view: BREAKING: WATER IS WET. Given Geno Smith is Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick may not be able to play until training camp or preseason, everything should be an option for the Jets at quarterback. The only issue might be Tennessee, who can trade out for another team coveting Mariota or the Titans themselves might select him. Keep in mind, even if he becomes a Jet, Mariota may be best served sitting for a year.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick will be ready for camp    Thu Mar 19, 11:12 AM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (leg) will be limited during offseason workouts but will be ready for the start of training camp, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Footballguys view: That's good, and as he knows Chan Gailey's offense well, it shouldn't be a big deal. He's not the long-term answer for the Jets but he could stand in for Marcus Mariota or another rookie quarterback while that guy gets his feet wet.

Panthers | Alan Ball signs with Carolina    Thu Mar 19, 11:00 AM

Free-agent CB Alan Ball (Jaguars) signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Carolina Panthers Thursday, March 19. The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus, a $950,000 salary, a $50,000 workout bonus and up to $500,000 in playing time incentives, according to a source.

Footballguys view: While it wasn't the biggest need for Carolina, it will help the defense keep things close over the next season and for a reasonable price.

Falcons | Jacob Tamme signs with Atlanta    Thu Mar 19, 10:57 AM

Free-agent TE Jacob Tamme (Broncos) signed an undisclosed deal with the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Tamme isn't a long-term answer at the position, but he'll certainly help. Buried behind Julius Thomas in Denver, Tamme might have more left in the tank than some think. The Falcons have been looking for a good tight end since Tony Gonzalez retired, and now they have one. Tamme isn't going to set the world on fire, but he could be a solid TE2 for fantasy owners.

Chargers | Patrick Robinson signs with San Diego    Thu Mar 19, 10:55 AM

Free-agent CB Patrick Robinson (Saints) signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the San Diego Chargers Thursday, March 19. The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus, $1 million base salary ($250,000 guaranteed) and up to $1 million in playing time incentives.

Footballguys view: Making a position of strength stronger, the signing allows the Chargers to use three different corners who can play outside. A first-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, Robinson started out as the No. 2 cornerback, but struggled and was demoted. He did bounce back with solid play as a slot corner later on and might benefit by not having to start, instead rotating in as needed.

Bengals | Brandon Ghee signs with Cincinnati    Thu Mar 19, 10:51 AM

Free-agent CB Brandon Ghee (Chargers) signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on an undisclosed contract Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Ghee may not even make the roster, as he will have to battle for a spot low on the depth chart. Picked in the third-round in 2010 by the Bengals, Ghee left as a free agent for San Diego last year but was cut in preseason. He then played six games with Tennessee before being released in early December with just one interception and three tackles.

The Saints converted portions of his 2015 and 2016 base salaries into signing bonuses, dropping his 2015 base salary from $1.8 million to $850,000 and his 2016 base salary from $4.25 million to $2.7 million.   Vikings | Adrian Peterson won't be released    Wed Mar 18, 11:29 PM

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson's agent was told Wednesday, March 18, by general manager Rick Spielman that the running back will not be released by the team.

Footballguys view: He won't be released...that doesn't mean he's staying in Minnesota. We could see the Vikings move Peterson if the price was right. We could also seeing him staying put. Stay tuned, this one is not over yet.

49ers | Reggie Bush signing official    Wed Mar 18, 08:34 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have officially announced they've signed veteran running back Reggie Bush to a one-year contract. Financial details were not released.

Footballguys view: With Frank Gore moving on to the Colts in free agency, Carlos Hyde takes over as the lead back for the 49ers. Behind him, Bush will work as a change-of-pace back and receiver out of the backfield.

Jets | Osi Umenyiora visits    Wed Mar 18, 07:50 PM

Free-agent DE Osi Umenyiora (Falcons) made a visit to the New York Jets Wednesday, March 18.

Footballguys view: Umenyiora is no longer the player he used to be, and his last double-digit sack season was 2010. He's played the last two years for the Falcons, and Umenyiora only had 2.5 sacks in 2014. If the Jets add him, Umenyiora would likely only be a part-time pass-rusher.

NFL | Jermaine Gresham has herniated disc    Wed Mar 18, 07:49 PM

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (back) has been diagnosed with a herniated disc in his back, according to a source. He will undergo surgery Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: And this is why Gresham is still unsigned. His recovery time should have him back on the field around training camp. We'd be shocked if any team signed him before that time.

Chargers | Mitch Unrein signs    Wed Mar 18, 07:45 PM

Free-agent DT Mitch Unrein (Broncos) signed a two-year deal with the San Diego Chargers Wednesday, March 18. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: It's a good signing by the Chargers. They steal away a workman-like defensive tackle from their division rival. Unrein is a solid player who can line up at defensive end or defensive tackle. He'll work as a rotational player for the Chargers.

Jaguars | Melvin Gordon to meet with Jags    Wed Mar 18, 07:29 PM

Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon will have a pre-draft visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars hold the third and 36th overall picks in this year's draft.

Footballguys view: We'd be shocked if the Jaguars spent the third-overall pick on Gordon. He's likely to be a first-round pick and Gordon will be gone by the time their 36th pick comes up. The Jaguars are moving Toby Gerhart to an H-back, and Denard Robinson is not a bellcow back. Gordon has star potential in the NFL. He's super fast in a straight line, and he runs with good patience and vision.

Ravens | Baltimore to visit with Melvin Gordon    Wed Mar 18, 07:26 PM

Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon has set up a pre-draft visit with the Baltimore Ravens, according to a source. The Ravens hold the 26th overall pick in the first round of this year's draft. NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah said Gordon 'should be ready to contribute on all three downs in Year 1.'

Footballguys view: Gordon is not a power back, but he has the speed to score from anywhere on the field. He'll likely be a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. We like his vision and patience when allowing blocks to develop in front of him. If added, Justin Forsett's fantasy value would take a huge hit.

Eagles | Connor Barwin restructured    Wed Mar 18, 07:21 PM

Jets | NY to visit with Denarius Moore    Wed Mar 18, 05:43 PM

Free-agent WR Denarius Moore (Raiders) is scheduled to meet with the New York Jets Thursday, March 19, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Even though the Jets traded for WR Brandon Marshall, they're still looking for help at the position. The Jets are looking for another speedy wide receiver to round out their depth. Moore has the talent, but injuries and inconsistencies have held his pro career back.

NFL | Todd Gurley doesn't take part in pro day    Wed Mar 18, 05:40 PM

Georgia RB Todd Gurley (knee) didn't take part in his school's pro day Wednesday, March 18, as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee from last November. He is hoping to be ready for full contact in July, and he could be ready for some drills during minicamps. Despite his injury, Gurley is expected to be selected in the first or second round of this year's draft. He has already visited with the Detroit Lions and has a visit scheduled with the Carolina Panthers. Scouts represented both the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers at Gurley's pro day, too.

Footballguys view: This is no shock to anyone out there. Gurley is still likely to be a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Several teams are interested in this potential superstar. His size/speed/power combination is elite, and he's one of the best backs we've seen come into the league since Adrian Peterson.

Chargers | Mitch Unrein visits    Wed Mar 18, 05:12 PM

Free-agent DT Mitch Unrein (Broncos) visited with the San Diego Chargers Wednesday, March 18.

Footballguys view: Unrein is a lunch-pail guy who can work at defensive end or defensive tackle. He hasn't generated much interest, and we think he returns to the Broncos.

Falcons | Kroy Biermann re-signed    Wed Mar 18, 04:39 PM

Free-agent DE Kroy Biermann re-signed with the Atlanta Falcons Wednesday, March 18. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Biermann has spent his entire pro career with the Falcons. Last year while coming back from an Achilles' injury, he led the team with 4.5 sacks. The Falcons are re-working their defense, but they decided that Biermann was best kept around.

Ravens | Lawrence Guy returning    Wed Mar 18, 04:34 PM

Free-agent DE Lawrence Guy (Ravens) has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens Wednesday, March 18, on a two-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Guy proved last year with the Ravens that he could work well as a rotational player. That will once again be his role this upcoming season.

Free-agent SS Taylor Mays (Bengals) is scheduled to have dinner with executives from the Minnesota Vikings Wednesday, March 18, and will visit with the team Thursday, March 19.

Footballguys view: Mays is an in-the-box safety who arrives at the ball-carrier with natural violence. The Vikings are looking for some more attitude on defense, and Mays would give them just that.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant could start in 2015    Wed Mar 18, 04:06 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant is expected to push WR Markus Wheaton for the No. 2 wide receiver job during training camp, according to offensive coordinator Todd Haley. 'We are looking for him to come in and make a push against Markus Wheaton for that No. 2 spot and continue give us big-time production, specifically in the red area where a big target like that can make a big impact,' Haley said.

Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here. We're excited about Bryant's upside because of his size, wingspan and ability to win at the point of the catch. At the same time, we've also been disappointed by Wheaton's lack of development. He's got the potential to be a better player than what he's shown. We'll see how this battle plays out in training camp.

Cowboys | Greg Hardy agrees to terms    Wed Mar 18, 03:52 PM

Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys Wednesday, March 18, on a one-year deal worth as much as $13.1 million.

Footballguys view: It's a strong move for the Cowboys with a potentially high price tag. Hardy may be suspended the first six games of the season, but that didn't keep the Cowboys from offering him big money. He's a fantastic pass-rusher who should make an immediate impact for Dallas--when he's eligible to play.

Panthers | Will work out Trae Waynes    Wed Mar 18, 03:30 PM

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes said he is scheduled to have a private workout with the Carolina Panthers.

Footballguys view: Waynes is arguably the best cornerback in this draft. He's got the length at 6'1" to hang with taller receivers on downfield routes. Waynes does a good job of re-routing his man, and he's got the recovery speed to make up ground in a hurry.

Chargers | SD serious about Marcus Mariota?    Wed Mar 18, 03:14 PM

Oregon State QB Marcus Mariota is scheduled to work out for the San Diego Chargers next month, and many around the league are speculating that the team could be serious about trading up for Mariota in the year's draft. The Chargers may be prepared for a future without current QB Philip Rivers, as the 2015 season is the final year of his current deal. However, general manager Tom Telesco said that the team isn't thinking of trading Rivers.

Footballguys view: They would have to trade up 10 or more spots just to land Mariota. San Diego would at least have to get in front of the Jets at 6th overall if they want the Oregon quarterback.

Chargers | Philip Rivers dishes on future    Wed Mar 18, 03:09 PM

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers isn't currently thinking about a contract extension with the team, but he believes he'll play out his current contract that ends after the 2015 season. 'What I can control and all I know as of today, I am signed up for one more year,' Rivers said. 'I guess things could change, but with all the uncertainty in many aspects, I don't see it changing before camp gets here, and when camp gets here I'm even more certain to play it out.' He won't rule out playing in Los Angeles if the team moves there, but there are more appealing cities for he and his family.

Footballguys view: Ooh, nothing like a little offseason intrigue! Stay tuned here as we haven't heard the last of this. The Chargers could put the franchise tag on Rivers for 2016, and there is speculation brewing that San Diego is prepared for a future without Rivers.

Bills | Buffalo expected to land Charles Clay    Wed Mar 18, 02:49 PM

Miami Dolphins transition free-agent TE Charles Clay is expected to land with the Buffalo Bills after signing a five-year, $38 million offer sheet with Buffalo Tuesday, March 17, according to a source. The Dolphins have five days to match the offer sheet, but they aren't expected to. Clay is set to make $24.5 million in the first two years of the deal. The total deal is 'only for $38 million for five years. Miami's last offer to Clay was for four years and $27 million, including less than $14 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: The Bills have made a big run at Clay, and they're likely to land him. He's a talented move tight end with the versatility to line up all over the field. Buffalo's offense will be centered around RB LeSean McCoy, but it's good to have quality weapons like Clay around QB Matt Cassel.

Patriots | Robert McClain signing    Wed Mar 18, 02:33 PM

Free-agent CB Robert McClain (Falcons) announced on Twitter that he is signing an undisclosed deal with the New England Patriots Wednesday, March 18.

Footballguys view: The Patriots continue to rebuild their secondary here after losing both Brandon Browner and Darrelle Revis in free agency. McClain has worked well as a nickel corner for the Falcons, but in New England he'll be able to compete for a starting job on the outside. He also brings special teams experience to the Patriots.

Bills | Buffalo officially signs Percy Harvin    Wed Mar 18, 02:05 PM

Free-agent WR Percy Harvin (Jets) officially signed with the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, March 18. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but earlier reports stated it is a one-year deal.

Footballguys view: Finally! This deal has been talked about for quite some time, and now it's official. Harvin likely gets a "prove it" deal from the Bills here. He doesn't want to be labeled as a "gadget player" but he needs to prove he can stay healthy and focused as a wide receiver. We'll see how he fits in on what should be a run-heavy offense featuring RB LeSean McCoy.
