Browns | Josh Gordon vows to change Mon Feb 1, 04:27 PM
Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon said he plans to 'disassociate' himself from those that could be contributing to keeping him out of the NFL. Gordon has been suspended a year for multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy, and he recently applied for reinstatement. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will make a decision within 60 days of Gordon's application.
|Footballguys view: We're hoping that Gordon is serious about making a turnaround. If he's on the field, Gordon can be a top-5 fantasy wide receiver. The Browns QB situation is up in the air right now, but Gordon's the type of playmaker who can produce regardless of who is throwing him the ball.|

Panthers | Thomas Davis has cast Mon Feb 1, 03:58 PM
Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) was wearing a cast on his broken forearm during practice Monday, Feb. 1.
|Footballguys view: We'll know more about his playing status later in the week, but we're expecting Davis to be on the field in Super Bowl 50 against the Broncos.|

Rams | Key defenders looking at free agency Mon Feb 1, 03:45 PM
St. Louis Rams DT Nick Fairley, DE William Hayes, SS Mark Barron, DE Eugene Sims, FS Rodney McLeod and CBs Trumaine Johnson and Janoris Jenkins will enter free agency this offseason if they are not re-signed. McLeod is a restricted free agent while the rest are unrestricted free agents.
|Footballguys view: According to OverTheCap.com, the Rams are set to have $32 million in cap space. That's a lot of money to be active in free agency, but it may not be enough to keep everyone listed above.|

Browns | Johnny Manziel investigation ongoing Mon Feb 1, 03:28 PM
Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is still being investigated for a possible assault of an ex-girlfriend Saturday, Jan. 30.
|Footballguys view: The investigation is ongoing, and it is the second time in as many months that the NFL has investigated Manziel for a domestic incident. Manziel is likely done with the Browns, and any sort of trouble from this would certainly and negatively impact any free agent interest he could get.|

Cardinals | Darren Fells signs tender Mon Feb 1, 03:12 PM
Arizona Cardinals TE Darren Fells signed his exclusive-rights tender Monday, Feb. 1.
|Footballguys view: Fells will make the minimum this year and be a restricted free agent in 2017. The Cardinals don't use their tight ends that much, but Fells will be in the mix to be top at the position. He's not a factor for fantasy owners.|

Seahawks | Doug Baldwin coming off career year Mon Feb 1, 02:57 PM
Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin scored 11 touchdowns in his last six games en route to a 78-catch, 1,069-yard, 14-touchdown season. The 14 touchdowns nearly equaled his touchdown total from the four previous seasons combined.
|Footballguys view: Baldwin looks like he's arrived as the top wideout for the Seahawks. The 14 touchdowns will be difficult to duplicate in 2016, so make sure not to chase after those too hard in next season's drafts.|
Redskins | Washington to keep Pierre Garcon? Mon Feb 1, 02:26 PM
Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon is expected to be retained and play out the last year of his contract in Washington, according to Rich Tandler and Tarik El-Bashir of CSNWashington.com.
|Footballguys view: Garcon has a $10.2 million cap number in 2016. With only $9 million in cap space (per OverTheCap.com), Washington won't have a ton of money to throw around in free agency. This draft class isn't as strong at wide receiver as previous years, so going for help at the position through the draft may not be an option. It's looking like Washington could overpay Garcon as they're thin at the position.|

Bears | Alshon Jeffery likely to return Mon Feb 1, 02:09 PM
Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery is too valuable to not re-sign with the Bears this offseason, according to ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson. Dickerson said Chicago can't afford to let Jeffery leave, especially since they drafted and developed him.
|Footballguys view: We could see the Bears slap the franchise tag on Jeffery so he doesn't get away. Putting the tag on him would give the team until mid-July to work out a new long-term deal. We would be absolutely shocked if Jeffery left the Bears this offseason.|

Texans | DeAndre Hopkins receives praise Mon Feb 1, 01:25 PM
Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins, who had three catches for 71 yards and a touchdown in the Pro Bowl, received praise from former WR Michael Irvin. 'We don't know what the ceiling is,' Irvin said. 'You see the skillset, where he can catch footballs from anyplace in the world. There is no telling what the ceiling can be. He'll be rewriting a lot of records in the NFL.' Hopkins had 111 catches for 1,521 yards and a franchise-record 11 touchdowns in 2015. Hopkins caught a touchdown from four different quarterbacks this year, which is an NFL record.
|Footballguys view: They just need to get him a quarterback in Houston, and Hopkins can be more dangerous than ever before. We'll see if the team can find a signal-caller through the draft or free agency.|

Jets | Chris Ivory unlikely to return? Mon Feb 1, 01:22 PM
New York Jets impending unrestricted free-agent RB Chris Ivory is likely to sign elsewhere this offseason. Although he racked up an AFC-best 1,070 rushing yards in 2015, he'll be 28 next month, he declined late in the season, and the Jets salary cap situation is tight. New York has seven starters headed to free agency, and they have only $14 million projected in salary cap space.
|Footballguys view: We've commented on Ivory's potential departure before. The team doesn't have much room right now, but there will be some salary-cap gymnastics done in order to free up more space. That could be enough to keep Ivory in the fold. The market for running backs is going to be jam-packed in free agency, and that may keep prices (at that position) down.|

Packers | Eddie Lacy looking to shape up Mon Feb 1, 11:40 AM
Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy was advised to lose 30 pounds in the offseason, and he's committed to it.
|Footballguys view: Anyone who has lost weight (or needs to lose weight) can tell you that 30 pounds is a lot. Lacy will have the benefit of an NFL weight program, but that is a massive undertaking with the start of training camp about six months away. Lacy will need to shed the weight, then he will need to prove that he can perform at a high level with less around the mid-section. He will then need to prove that he can keep the weight off.|

Bengals | Tyler Eifert exits Pro Bowl Mon Feb 1, 09:33 AM
Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (foot) left the Pro Bowl Sunday, Jan. 31, and was in a walking boot due to a foot injury. He had X-rays, which revealed a bone bruise.
|Footballguys view: No need to get anyone hurt in a meaningless exhibition game. A bone bruise would be problematic if the Bengals were still playing. They've got plenty of time to get Eifert right before OTAs and minicamp.|

Lions | Marvin Jones a top target for Lions Mon Feb 1, 09:28 AM
Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent WR Marvin Jones could be the top target for the Detroit Lions this offseason.
|Footballguys view: We could see Jones attract quite a bit of interest on the open market. In addition to the Lions, there's speculation that the Patriots want Jones as well. The Lions need to upgrade the WR position, especially if Calvin Johnson officially announces his retirement.|

Cowboys | Dak Prescott meets with Dallas Mon Feb 1, 07:06 AM
Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott met with the Dallas Cowboys for about one hour Friday, Jan. 29, before he played in that weekend's Senior Bowl.
|Footballguys view: Prescott is an interesting and athletic quarterback who won the Most Outstanding Player Award for his performance in the Senior Bowl. However, during the week of practice Prescott showed that there's much to improve as a passer. He can run and gash a defense with his legs, but Prescott needs to show better consistency and improved pass-placement as a thrower. At this time, Prescott is considered a third- or fourth-round pick.|

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay has interest in Braxton Miller Sun Jan 31, 09:57 PM
Ohio State WR Braxton Miller said the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have shown interest in him and have remained in contact with him since Senior Bowl practices.
|Footballguys view: Adding Miller would make a lot of sense for a team like the Bucs. They are set on the outside with guys like Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson. However, they could use another quality target out of the slot. That's where Miller could come in. Right now, Miller is considered a second- or third-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft. He's an explosive playmaker who is a threat to score anytime he touches the ball.|
Eagles | Lane Johnson endorses Sam Bradford Sun Jan 31, 07:49 PM
Philadelphia Eagles OT Lane Johnson said he thinks the team would benefit from re-signing QB Sam Bradford. 'I definitely want him to say,' Johnson said. 'If you look at the last part of the year, Sam was doing really well. Completing a lot of passes and getting comfortable. Him staying here, him being familiar with the players, I think that would really help us out.'
|Footballguys view: Bradford has the support of his teammates, but the Eagles may let him go in free agency if they feel that a better QB is available through the 2016 NFL draft. The Eagles have the 13th-overall pick, and there are early mock draft that have QB Carson Wentz (North Dakota State) falling to them. After Wentz's performance in the Senior Bowl, we don't think he'll fall out of the top 10. Bradford should return to the Eagles, but that's no sure thing as of right now.|

Lions | Calvin Johnson plans to retire Sun Jan 31, 05:29 PM
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson told head coach Jim Caldwell after the regular season that he plans to retire, according to sources. Caldwell has told Johnson to take his time with his decision, and the Lions are hoping that Johnson will change his mind this offseason.
|Footballguys view: Johnson turned 30 in September, and reports say he told family that 2015 would be his last season. While he seems content with his decision right now, there's always a chance that Johnson changes his mind. He's due approximately $16 million in base salary (per Spotrac.com) in 2016, but he's got a cap number of just over $24 million after bonuses. If Johnson ends up retiring, the Lions will obviously make adding talent at the position a priority.|

Patriots | Malcolm Butler has knee injury Sun Jan 31, 04:16 PM
New England Patriots CB Malcolm Butler (knee) is not playing in the Pro Bowl because he suffered a knee injury during the AFC Championship game.

Redskins | Niles Paul should be ready for workouts Sun Jan 31, 03:58 PM
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (ankle) should be ready for the start of offseason workouts and will work as the team's No. 2 tight end.
|Footballguys view: Paul has flashed quality talent during his pro career, but he's also struggled with nagging injuries. He should work behind Jordan Reed, and Paul makes for an interesting prospect to hold onto in deep dynasty leagues.|
Niles Paul player page
Patriots | Danny Amendola release not expected Sun Jan 31, 03:21 PM
New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola is not expected to be released this offseason despite a $6.8 million salary cap hit he would cause. Releasing Amendola would save the Patriots $3.5 million against the salary cap.
|Footballguys view: We'll see what the Patriots decide later this year. Amendola is a quality target for QB Tom Brady when healthy. The Patriots should make upgrades to the WR position this offseason, but we see Amendola sticking around in 2016.|

Dolphins | Job security for Ryan Tannehill Sun Jan 31, 02:25 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill won't have any competition at quarterback this offseason, according to executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum. Tannenbaum is convinced Miami can win with Tannehill and does not feel compelled to draft a quarterback to compete with him.
|Footballguys view: Watch out for Tannehill in 2016. Working under new head coach Adam Gase, we should see a career-best season for Tannehill. It wouldn't surprise us to see Tannehill flourish under Gase and finish 2016 as a top-10 fantasy QB.|

Redskins | Washington could add running back Sun Jan 31, 02:11 PM
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris may not return next season, as previously reported, which could lead the Redskins to draft a running back or sign a free-agent running back, according to CSNWashington.com's Rich Tandler. Tandler said depth is needed at the position and that RBs Chris Thompson and Silas Redd are both coming off injuries and aren't workhorse backs.
|Footballguys view: The math here is pretty simple...especially if Morris doesn't return. Matt Jones may not be ready to take on a full workload in 2016. Chris Thompson is exciting to watch as a change-of-pace back, but he struggles to stay healthy and can't carry a large workload. If Morris moves on in free agency, then Washington will look to a rich free agent and draft class for more help at the position.|

Cowboys | DeMarcus Lawrence undergoes surgery Sun Jan 31, 11:45 AM
Dallas Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence (back) underwent back surgery to fix an issue which bothered him for much of the second half of the 2015 season, according to head coach Jason Garrett.
|Footballguys view: Lawrence should be ready for OTAs and minicamp. He played with this injury and performed well in 2015. Lawrence led the team with eight sacks in 2015, and he should once again be a quality defensive end for them in 2016.|

NFL | Carson Wentz delivers at Senior Bowl Sat Jan 30, 11:53 PM
North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz showed a 'big arm,' accuracy and decisiveness during the Senior Bowl Saturday, Jan. 30, according to Mike Mayock of NFL Media.
|Footballguys view: Wentz entered the week with arguably more pressure on him than any other player because of the hype around him and the stakes at hand. The young quarterback certainly did impress during the week of practice against the best competition he's ever played again. The North Dakota State prospect is likely to be a first-round pick, and he may go off the board at no.2 overall as the Cleveland Browns reportedly have interest.|
Chiefs | Travis Kelce ready to meet expectations Sat Jan 30, 11:44 PM
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce said he is 'more motivated than ever' after receiving a contract extension.
|Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are certainly hoping that's the case. Kelce has yet to crack the top-5 fantasy tight ends, but he's certainly got the ability to do so. With new contract in hand, we'll see if Kelce can play up to his full potential in 2016.|

Jets | Scott Chandler could interest Jets Sat Jan 30, 05:58 PM
New England Patriots TE Scott Chandler could interest the New York Jets if he's cut as he put up good numbers with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey with the Buffalo Bills.
|Footballguys view: The Jets have to find better answers at the tight end position. Guys like Jace Amaro and Zach Sudfeld aren't the answer, but a guy like Chandler could be. Chandler has a big frame and can box out smaller defenders for the football. We'll see if he's available this offseason.|

Browns | Josh McCown could be cleared soon Sat Jan 30, 03:44 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (collarbone) said his recover from a broken collarbone is going well. His recovery is on schedule and he hopes to be cleared soon to work out.
|Footballguys view: Expect the Browns to add a quarterback through the draft or free agency. Reports indicate their interest in North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz is real. We could see them select Wentz with the second-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. McCown should be ready to rock by the time training camp rolls around, but the situation around him is likely to be different from what we saw last year.|

Patriots | Bengals receivers of interest to Patriots? Sat Jan 30, 02:40 PM
Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent WRs Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu could be targets for the New England Patriots this offseason, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. Reiss believes Jones' route-running ability would translate well in New England's offensive system, and that Sanu could draw interest as an alumnus of the Rutgers, a program for which the Patriots have high regard.
|Footballguys view: The Patriots have to upgrade the WR position. They need to move on from Brandon LaFell, and adding either Marvin Jones or Mohamed Sanu would be the necessary upgrade.|

Dolphins | Adam Jones, Reggie Nelson may be targets Sat Jan 30, 11:22 AM
Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent CB Adam Jones and FS Reggie Nelson could receive interest from the Miami Dolphins this offseason since defensive coordinator Vance Joseph worked with them when he was part of the Bengals.
|Footballguys view: We're expecting the Dolphins to be much improved on both sides of the ball. However, they're going to have to get creative with salaries if they want to even be a little bit active in free agency. As of right now (according to OverTheCap.com), the Dolphins only have $2.6 million in cap space. That number will change with player cuts and potential contract restructures.|

Jaguars | Allen Robinson sets lofty goals Sat Jan 30, 12:45 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson said expectations for the offense are high for 2016, and he added that he wants to improve on his numbers from 2015.
|Footballguys view: Those goals have to be through the roof. Robinson had 1,400 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in 2015 as the Jaguars primary receiver. That made him the 4th-best fantasy WR in standard-scoring leagues.|

Packers | Aaron Rodgers had knee surgery Sat Jan 30, 12:09 AM
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (knee) had knee surgery following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional round of the playoffs, but he said he is 'doing well' and 'recovering on schedule.'

Falcons | No decision yet on Roddy White Fri Jan 29, 09:47 PM
Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White's future with the team has not yet been decided, according to general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

He's got a $4.25 million cap number in 2016, and White has previously stated that he is unwilling to take a pay cut. He's not the same player he used to be, and we'd be shocked if they kept White on the roster with his current price tag.|

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said he doesn't expect any major changes in the offensive philosophy in 2016, and he added that he expects QB Tony Romo back and ready to go for the start of the season.
|Footballguys view: Romo should be ready to go in 2016, and fantasy owners should consider him a low-end QB1 with injury risk. His propensity to get injured is the reason why we think the Cowboys will look to add a better backup QB through the draft or free agency.|

New York Jets impending free-agent RB Chris Ivory said he would like to re-sign with the Jets but is not sure if the team will have the salary cap space to bring him back.
|Footballguys view: At this time, (according to OverTheCap.com) the Jets have $10 million in cap space in 2016. That's not much, so expect the team to re-work some deals or cut certain players to clear some cap space. Ivory is going to face a free agent market chock full of good running backs. We have a feeling the Jets will be able to work something out with him.|

49ers | Colin Kaepernick could reclaim starting gig Fri Jan 29, 07:29 PM
San Francisco 49ers chief executive officer Jed York can see QB Colin Kaepernick winning his starting job back in 2016 if he is healthy. 'There's no question in my mind,' York replied. 'I've always had a very, very high opinion of Kap. Kap's a great kid, he's done a lot of great things for us. And again, this is a fresh start for everybody.'
|Footballguys view: Kaepernick has the athleticism to fit into Chip Kelly's system. However, he needs to prove that he can make quick decisions and accurate throws as a passer in order to flourish. The Kelly system is somewhat simple, and mainly uses tempo as a weapon. They'll leave a defender unblocked opposite play side, and that's where Kaepernick's athleticism should be able to freeze that player on the edge. If Kaepernick doesn't throw accurately, then teams will respect his rushing ability less and try to force a quick throw.|

NFL | Carson Wentz has met with four teams Fri Jan 29, 06:58 PM
North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz has met with the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles.
|Footballguys view: This just in; all teams at the Senior Bowl will show interest in Wentz. A potential top-5 pick, Wentz showed well during this first stop in the pre-draft process. A team like the Cowboys may be willing to move up to no.1 overall in order to secure Wentz in the draft. The Titans currently hold the first pick, but they've already proclaimed that pick is up for grabs if the price is right.|
NFL | Braxton Miller meets with seven teams Fri Jan 29, 06:54 PM
Ohio State WR Braxton Miller has met with the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets.
|Footballguys view: All teams meet with the top prospects at the Senior Bowl. Scouts go up to players after practice each day, but there are scheduled meetings at the team hotel where most inquiries are done. Miller showed well against off coverage this week at the Senior Bowl. However, he needs to learn how to better play against press coverage and he needs to play with better composure when covered closely.|

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has years left Fri Jan 29, 05:45 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has not shown any decline in his play and is expected to play several more seasons, according to team president Art Rooney II. Rooney said the team is not looking to start grooming their next starting quarterback at this point.
|Footballguys view: We're a year or two away from any sort of "quarterback of the future" being added by the Steelers...maybe even longer. So long as Roethlisberger is healthy-ish, he can be a quality starter. The Steelers can go far with Roethlisberger, and they were only stunted this year in the postseason due to injuries (Antonio Brown, DeAngelo Williams to name two) at other positions.|
