Seahawks | Two key Seahawks may start on PUP list    Thu Jul 28, 06:00 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) and TE Jimmy Graham (knee) will not practice when training camp begins Saturday, July 30. Both players will be brought along slowly and could begin camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. They are still both on track to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, however, according to general manager John Schneider.

Footballguys view: Rawls is a bigger concern as he has a huge role to fill with Marshawn Lynch retiring. Graham was already a guy expected to be on the bench for much of camp, and hasn't been a big factor in Seattle yet anyway. Rawls has RB2 potential, but not if he can't stay healthy. Hopefully this is just lingering recovery time from his fractured ankle in December.

Jets | Matt Forte dealing with injury    Thu Jul 28, 05:54 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, July 28, because of a hamstring injury. Head coach Todd Bowles said Forte is considered day-to-day at this point.

Footballguys view: We're not terribly worried and would rather have him shut down for a bit than for him to battle through and have more lasting damage. Forte should take a little hit to his carries and overall numbers but should still be a solid RB2, with RB1 upside in PPR leagues, though his targets will probably drop a little.

Steelers | Date set for Le'Veon Bell's appeal    Thu Jul 28, 05:34 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's appeal for his four-game suspension is tentatively set for mid-August, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Footballguys view: So far it sounds like he will not win it, which means DeAngelo Williams will be an RB1 for the first month of the season and a critical handcuff for Bell owners the rest of the way.

Jaguars | Individual drills for Kelvin Beachum    Thu Jul 28, 05:25 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Kelvin Beachum (knee) practiced for the first time Thursday, July 28, since signing with the Jaguars in March, but he only participated in individual drills.

Chiefs | Slow progress in Dontari Poe talks    Thu Jul 28, 05:20 PM

Kansas City Chiefs DT Dontari Poe has not made much progress in contract extension talks with the Chiefs, and the two sides probably will not be able to reach an agreement before the start of the regular season.

Jaguars | Jalen Ramsey looking good    Thu Jul 28, 05:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) looked impressive in his first practice of training camp Thursday, July 28. He locked up receivers in press coverage and displayed good instincts, strength and explosiveness.

Footballguys view: If Dante Fowler Jr is back to 100% health while both Ramsey and Myles Jack stay healthy, this defense has a tremendous foundation. The Jaguars are a team which is on the upswing and should be a tough franchise to play in the next few years.

Cardinals | Timetable for Tyrann Mathieu    Thu Jul 28, 05:06 PM

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) believes he's about three weeks away from practicing. He is able to participate in all parts of practice, but he's going to take it slow.

Steelers | Ladarius Green placed on PUP list    Thu Jul 28, 05:06 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Green has so much talent but his constant injuries hold him back. We think he has the ability to be a TE1, but this setback is a concern so at best he's a TE1/TE2 and someone we now have to watch in camp.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick will be starter    Thu Jul 28, 05:05 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starting quarterback in 2016, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: This is less shocking than finding out Darth Vader is Luke's father but more than discovering Superman and Batman both have moms named Martha. On the serious tip, of course we knew this and Fitzpatrick should be a low-end QB2 in this offense, given the continuity of it. Fitzpatrick is an able backup with some upside, but that schedule scares Zack Snyder doing another DC movie.

Lions | Eric Ebron earns praise from Matt Stafford    Thu Jul 28, 04:46 PM

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron is more mature, according to QB Matthew Stafford. 'He's a guy that wants to put the work in,' Stafford said. 'I'm expecting a lot of good things from him.'

Footballguys view: We still don't know what to make of Ebron, who is very talented but hasn't yet reached what we think his potential is. Consider him a TE2 right now, and don't be shocked if this is the year. Now that Stafford has no Calvin Johnson, the ball could find its way to many new and interesting places, like Ebron's hands. However, we think the addition of WR Anquan Boldin cuts into Ebron's potential the most of any receiver on the Lions roster.

Ravens | Kenneth Dixon day-to-day    Thu Jul 28, 04:39 PM

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (knee) is considered day-to-day because of his medial collateral ligament sprain. Head coach John Harbaugh said Dixon could return to practice as early as Friday, July 29.

Footballguys view: He already had a lot of work to do in order to get a significant piece of the carries away from Justin Forsett, who is still considered the starter. His durability was a pre-draft concern, so this will just reinforce that. We think he looks like an RB5 or so right now, but every snap he misses sets him further back.

Ravens | Joe Flacco happy with practice    Thu Jul 28, 04:37 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (knee) said he felt comfortable during practice Thursday, July 28, but wishes he was able to complete more passes. He did not try to run during practice but did move around the pocket. It is not known if he will receive any playing time in the first preseason game or if the team will hold him out until the third preseason game.

Footballguys view: As Flacco is coming off an injury, the Ravens may take it easy with him, so we might not see him do much before Week 1. We're not sure how well he'll play and the receiving options around him are middling, so right now we see him as a low-end QB2 with upside, but we could see him rise up the rankings as his reps get more numerous and we see how healthy he is.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery mum on contract talks    Thu Jul 28, 04:10 PM

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery did not engage in discussing his failed bid to secure a long-term contract Thursday, July 28. 'Right now I'm in the process ... I'm focusing on football,' Jeffery said. 'I'm just focused on this year. Anything else will take care of itself.'

Footballguys view: Between this and Martellus Bennett's contract issues, which led to his trade, you have the wonder if the Bears think good players just grow on trees. Jeffery is one of the best young receivers in the game, an easy WR1 in fantasy and someone we think you don't just get off the street. You'd think they would want both he and Kevin White, so we expect this to get done. Still, if he leaves at the end of his contract we think Bears fans should be a bit alarmed.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu in tune with Matt Ryan    Thu Jul 28, 03:51 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu and QB Matt Ryan showed excellent chemistry Thursday, July 28. Ryan hit Sanu in stride and connected with the receiver on a number of timing throws where Sanu ran crisp routes.

Footballguys view: Sanu is a great practice player who sometimes can figure it out on the field as well, but often doesn't. He'll have an excellent chance to burn defenses across from Julio Jones, but we just don't trust him and see him as a WR5/WR6 this season.

Jets | Matt Forte not practicing    Thu Jul 28, 03:44 PM

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (undisclosed) is not participating in practice Thursday, July 28, because of an undisclosed reason.

Footballguys view: Maybe an early rest day? We're not too worried, and still think he's a great RB2 with upside, but he was banged up last year and is an older back, so keep your eyes on this.

Falcons | Austin Hooper will be featured in camp    Thu Jul 28, 03:43 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper made at least three difficult catches over the middle and near the sideline Thursday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Message! Hooper may not have a huge impact this year, but it's worth watching on a team with shaky options for Matt Ryan to throw to beyond Julio Jones. He's TE3 material (with intriguing upside) in redraft this year but should be owned in all Dynasty leagues.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick working with starters    Thu Jul 28, 03:34 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is receiving most of the snaps with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, July 28. QB Geno Smith has also received a few snaps with the starters.

Footballguys view: As expected. We still expect Smith to be there just in case Fitzpatrick implodes or gets hurt this season, since nobody else has experience. Bryce Petty is likely to be cut and stashed on the practice squad if at all possible. Fitzpatrick is a low-end QB2 or a solid QB3. He has the weapons and was solid last year but the schedule and his meltdown in Week 17 keep us leery of him.

Falcons | Tevin Coleman utilized in passing game    Thu Jul 28, 03:31 PM

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman ran a number of passing route during 11-on-11 drills Thursday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Coleman was banged up last season but seems healthy now. Devonta Freeman will be the main back here, but Coleman may see more work on passing downs than last year. He's still no more than an RB5 or solid handcuff to Freeman.

Falcons | Julio Jones will practice Friday    Thu Jul 28, 03:19 PM

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (undisclosed) will return to practice Friday, July 29, but head coach Dan Quinn would not disclose the nature of Jones' injury.

Footballguys view: We still expect him to be a solid WR1, but would love a little more info on the issue. Until we get it, we have to just keep the upside in mind and see what he does in practices in the coming weeks.

Redskins | Josh Doctson shut down until healthy    Thu Jul 28, 03:14 PM

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') will be shut down until he is '100% healthy,' according to head coach Jay Gruden. Gruden noted the team was not satisfied with how Doctson's Achilles' was progressing.

Footballguys view: We can scratch him off your redraft lists as he will miss a lot of vital and critical prep-time. We expect Pierre Garcon to get a bump from the WR5 position we have him in, while DeSean Jackson should remain a WR3/WR4. We still love Doctson's long-term upside in dynasty leagues. Also, Jamison Crowder should remain as the team's WR3 with Doctson shut down.

Lions | Anquan Boldin contract update    Thu Jul 28, 02:54 PM

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Anquan Boldin signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions worth $2.75 million. The deal includes a $750,000 signing bonus.

Footballguys view: He may not bump Golden Tate and Marvin Jones out of the lineup but could end up as a reliable No.3 receiver and decent WR5 for fantasy owners. We'll see how quickly he and QB Matthew Stafford get on the same page.

Jets | Several Jets players on PUP list    Thu Jul 28, 02:47 PM

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (leg), OG James Carpenter (undisclosed), OT Breno Giacomini (undisclosed) and CB Kendall James (undisclosed) were placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 28.

Footballguys view: We knew Wilkerson would end up there but Carpenter and Giacomini are concerns as the Jets are desperate for a healthy line. Luckily Chan Gailey's offense is quick and can overcome a shaky line.

Jets | Devin Smith placed on PUP list    Thu Jul 28, 02:35 PM

New York Jets WR Devin Smith (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Now on the PUP, you can officially drop him from your pre-draft lists. Yes, there is plenty of room for a new face to be the third receiver for the Jets but 1) they will get a fraction of the targets compared to Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall and 2) Smith struggled even before his injury. We would leave him off our roster.

Giants | Victor Cruz avoids PUP list    Thu Jul 28, 02:28 PM

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) will not be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list but will be limited during the early part of training camp.

Footballguys view: Cruz has looked good this spring and early summer but we are leery of getting too excited before he gets tackled for the first time. We have him ranked as a WR7 right now, though he has upside. We just don't know how close to the old Cruz he will be.

Patriots | Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo share snaps    Thu Jul 28, 02:04 PM

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady received the first snaps during quarterback drills and seven-on-seven drills during practice Thursday, July 28, while QB Jimmy Garoppolo received the first snaps during 11-on-11 drills. Garoppolo went 11-for-14 during the team drills, while Brady went 8-for-14.

Footballguys view: The Patriots need to keep preparing for the full season even as they prepare to not have Brady for the first four weeks. No worries, Brady will continue to see plenty of action in camp. There's no doubt Brady will put up QB1 numbers, but his overall value takes a hit because you won't get a full season from him. He's going in he seventh round in terms of ADP, about QB7 off the board. You're still going to have to fight for him if you want him. And then you either need a good second option or Garoppolo and a lot of faith.

Broncos | DeMarcus Ware may be cleared soon    Thu Jul 28, 01:59 PM

Denver Broncos DE DeMarcus Ware (back) is expected to be cleared to practice by Friday, July 29, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

Footballguys view: The team is expected to be cautious with Ware and keep him out practice early. In the meantime, this means more reps for guys like Shane Ray and Shaq Barrett.

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (knee) has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 medial collateral ligament sprain, according to a source. The injury is considered minor, but the team likely will proceed with caution.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the rookie here. A minor MCL sprain could shut him down for a week or so. He's competing for a backup spot behind starter Justin Forsett in 2016.

Browns | Cleveland will name starting QB soon    Thu Jul 28, 01:29 PM

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson said the team will name their starting quarterback before their first preseason game.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah making progress    Thu Jul 28, 01:28 PM

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (shoulder) is making progress in his recovery from a shoulder injury and should be ready to practice since he was not placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: Abdullah has to prove that he's more than just a change-of-pace back. Even though he's the lead back for the Lions, the team should use at least use Theo Riddick as a receiving back. Someone like Zach Zenner could also get work as the team's goal-line back. Abdullah is a high-end RB3 for fantasy owners.

Lions | Anquan Boldin to move around    Thu Jul 28, 01:19 PM

Detroit Lions WR Anquan Boldin will initially see playing time as an outside receiver as well as a slot receiver, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Footballguys view: Boldin can pretty much do whatever is asked of him. He's not quite the player he used to be, but Boldin proved last year that he's far from washed up. Boldin should be the Lions' No.3 WR behind Golden Tate and Marvin Jones.

Ravens | Kenneth Dixon exits with injury    Thu Jul 28, 11:54 AM

Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (leg) left practice Thursday, July 28, with a leg injury.

Footballguys view: One of the concerns around Dixon was his durability, as he had knee issues in 2013 and missed two games last season with an ankle issue. If he can stay healthy, he could be a very good back but his physical running style might make that hard to do. As of now, we see him as no more than a RB3/RB4 with a little upside if something happens to Justin Forsett.
