Jets | Jace Amaro not used in red zone in 2014 Wed Jul 22, 01:44 PM
New York Jets TE Jace Amaro was targeted only nine times in the red zone last season. Amaro could be used more often in the red zone under offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.
|Footballguys view: It would be a smart move for the Jets to use Amaro more when they're near pay dirt. Amaro has good size and the wingspan to pluck jump passes out of the air. He's a TE2 with upside for fantasy owners this year.|

Ravens | Lorenzo Taliaferro to face competition Wed Jul 22, 01:15 PM
Baltimore Ravens RB Lorenzo Taliaferro is expected to be pushed by RB Javorius Allen for the No. 2 running back job, but he likely will enter training camp as the favorite for the job because of his experience.
|Footballguys view: Allen was picked up in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft. Coming out of USC, Allen is known as a player who can make defenders miss in the open field. He's a big back (220 pounds), but he's not a power back. He's got an upright running style and is a bit more dainty as a runner than most backs his size. We think Taliaferro wins the job.|

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham meets with Arizona Wed Jul 22, 12:22 PM
Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (back) met with the Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, July 21, but the two sides have not agreed to a deal at this point. Gresham underwent back surgery earlier this offseason, and it is not known if the Cardinals' doctors were comfortable with his health. Gresham may decide to meet with other teams before making a decision.
|Footballguys view: Earlier reports indicated the Saints had an offer on the table for the veteran tight end. Gresham had back surgery back in March, and he may not be as healthy as some teams want in order to bring him on board. We'll see some team add him...perhaps before the start of training camp.|

Vikings | Brian Robison's status uncertain Wed Jul 22, 12:20 PM
Minnesota Vikings DE Brian Robison (pectoral) may not be able to fully participate when training camp starts since he is still recovering from a pectoral injury he suffered during the offseason.
|Footballguys view: At 32 years old, Robison doesn't need every single rep. The team should be cautious with him during camp so that he'll be ready for the start of the regular season.|

Giants | Odell Beckham feeling better Wed Jul 22, 12:09 PM
New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) said his hamstring is feeling a lot better than it did earlier this offseason. Beckham missed some of the offseason workouts because of a hamstring problem.
|Footballguys view: The Giants know they'll have to be careful with their superstar. Beckham missed the first month of his rookie season last year due to hamstring problems. Entering this season, the Giants can't afford to have Beckham in the sidelines.|

Titans | David Cobb missed time this offseason Wed Jul 22, 08:27 AM
Tennessee Titans RB David Cobb (hamstring) missed much of the offseason with a hamstring injury.
|Footballguys view: We like Cobb's power and determination as a runner. He's currently behind Bishop Sankey on the depth chart, but that could change if Cobb is healthy and impressive in camp. The rookie is unlikely to be a superstar in this league, but he could be a solid starter for the Titans.|
David Cobb player page
Titans | Bishop Sankey likely to start Wed Jul 22, 08:17 AM
Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey is the odds-on favorite to start in Week 1 because he has a year of experience and a full offseason under his belt.
|Footballguys view: Sankey had a disappointing rookie season, but the Titans look like they'll give him another chance to prove himself as the lead back. However, they did draft both RB David Cobb and FB Jalston Fowler in the 2015 NFL draft. If (when?) Sankey struggles, we could see Cobb take over with Fowler blasting open holes in front of him.|

Texans | Jaelen Strong sheds 20 pounds Wed Jul 22, 08:16 AM
Houston Texans WR Jaelen Strong posted on Twitter that he is down from 231 pounds at rookie camp to 211 pounds Tuesday, July 21.
|Footballguys view: Strong had good build-up speed in college at Arizona State, and he ran a 4.4 at the Scouting Combine earlier this year. However, that speed didn't show up on film. By playing at a lighter weight, Strong should be more explosive than ever before. We love his skill set (powerful, strong hands) on underneath routes, but it's hard to get excited about anyone outside of DeAndre Hopkins in that passing game with the current QB situation.|

Titans | Justin Hunter to take part in camp Wed Jul 22, 01:56 AM
Tennessee Titans WR Justin Hunter is expected to take part in training camp when it opens, as the team will let the legal process play out, according to a source. Hunter was arrested earlier in the month of felony assault.
|Footballguys view: This is an interesting move by the Titans. It looks like they're going to let the legal process work things out. Hunter has been a disappointment for two years in the pros, and this could be a make-or-break season for him with the Titans--even without the off-field issues.|

Ravens | Maxx Williams faces steep learning curve Tue Jul 21, 10:02 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams' play was inconsistent during offseason workouts and expectations for the rookie should be kept in check, in the opinion of The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec.
|Footballguys view: Williams has good upside as a pro, and his game always reminded us of a young Jason Witten. The rookie will have to get on track with the pro game, and he'll have to prove that he's a better starting option than second-year pro Crockett Gillmore. In addition to having arguably the coolest name in all of football, Gillmore has strong hands and is a savvy player who can move the chains.|

49ers | Bruce Ellington looking ready Tue Jul 21, 09:40 PM
San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (hamstring) sat out most of the 2014 season due to injury but a video posted to his Instagram account Tuesday, July 21, makes it seems he's ready to go for the 2015 season.
|Footballguys view: YouTube scouting is bad enough, so we're not going to make any determinations about Ellington based off of Instagram, Vine, Periscope, etc. Yes, it looks like he's ready but the preseason will tell the tale. Ellington has speed, but he's also on an offense with a quarterback who has not yet proven he can work through progressions quickly and make good decisions with the football.|

Free-agent LB Dwight Freeney (Chargers) told Sirius XM NFL Radio Tuesday, July 21, he wants to play in 2015 but it has to be in the right situation defensively.
|Footballguys view: Freeney is no longer the player he used to be, but we could see a team giving him a shot at some point in training camp. It would be best to use the veteran pass-rusher as a part-time player at this point in his career.|

Titans | Marcus Mariota agrees to deal Tue Jul 21, 07:32 PM
Tennessee Titans rookie QB Marcus Mariota agreed to terms on his rookie contract Tuesday, July 21. Terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Mariota is the last of the first-round picks to sign. He won't miss any training camp with his first contract in hand. That's important for Mariota since he has so much to learn. We like his raw natural talent, but Mariota will have to prove that he can excel as a passer from the pocket. After working out of the shotgun for almost every snap of his college career at Oregon, Mariota has to prove that he can work from under center effectively. The talent is there, but there's a lot of room for improvement.|

Patriots | NE RBs in close battle Tue Jul 21, 07:01 PM
New England Patriots RBs James White, Travaris Cadet and Dion Lewis aren't far apart in the battle to take over the pass-catching role vacated by New York Giants RB Shane Vereen, according to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com.
|Footballguys view: There's a lot to like about each one of these players. We're excited to see what White can do with a larger role this year. The second-year back from Wisconsin is a determined runner, and he can make plays in open space. Both Cadet and Lewis could be fine change-of-pace backs as well.|

Giants | Jon Beason could be limited at camp Tue Jul 21, 04:45 PM
New York Giants LB Jon Beason (toe) may see limited repetitions during training camp. Beason said he expects the team to make him be careful with his workload, while also doing what he can to adequately prepare for the season.
|Footballguys view: Beason missed all but two games last year due to this toe injury. He's playing the "Mike" for the Giants this year, and Beason should see plenty of action. The Giants need to make sure he's at his best when the regular season starts.|

Steelers | LeVeon Bell appeal not heard yet Tue Jul 21, 04:29 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's supposed appeal for his three-game suspension has not been brought to the attention of commissioner Roger Goodell. Bell was suspended for possession of marijuana and driving under the influence.
|Footballguys view: We have a feeling that Bell could see his sentence reduced by a game or two. Fantasy owners should still be taking Bell in the first five picks on any fantasy draft--even if his suspension stands at three games.|
LeVeon Bell player page
Patriots | No timetable for Tom Brady's appeal Tue Jul 21, 04:16 PM
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's appeal on his four-game suspension does not have a specified timeline, according to commissioner Roger Goodell. Goodell said the league is being thorough with the appeal process, adding that a decision will be made as quickly as possible.
|Footballguys view: As quickly as possible? Yeah right. Fantasy owners want to know if Brady is going to get popped for four games, or if he's going to be ready for the season opener. If Brady has any games remaining on his suspension expect more legal action from his camp.|

Lions | Joique Bell's health a big concern? Tue Jul 21, 03:57 PM
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell's health will be a concern until the Lions see him back on the field, according to offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi.
|Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to have rookie Ameer Abdullah on the radar. Right now, Abdullah is coming off the board at RB28 while Bell is coming off at RB27 in 12-team PPR leagues. Bell suffered Achilles' and knee injuries last season, but still managed nearly 1,200 total yards and eight total touchdowns. Watch Bell's status in training camp to determine his level of play by the time the regular season gets here.|

Cowboys | Dez Bryant could be limited in camp Tue Jul 21, 02:49 PM
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant could see a decreased amount of snaps during training camp this year in an attempt to preserve his good health. According to executive vice president Stephen Jones, it will be important for Bryant and the Cowboys for him not to be 'thrown to the wolves' right away.
|Footballguys view: We're not shocked by this. Bryant missed out on OTAs and minicamp, so it makes sense for the Cowboys to ease him back into action. He'll be ready to rock in plenty of time for the regular season opener.|
Dez Bryant player page
Vikings | Adrian Peterson restructures Tue Jul 21, 01:29 PM
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has agreed to restructure his contract Tuesday, July 21.
|Footballguys view: Peterson was due a non-guaranteed $44.75 million over the next three years before the team restructured his deal. He'll now make a guaranteed salary of $11 million this season, and Peterson gets a $2 million roster bonus paid on July 28th. Next year, Peterson has a base salary of $7.75 million. Also on the third day of the league year, Peterson earns a $5 million roster bonus.|

Vikings | MIN has no interest in Evan Mathis Tue Jul 21, 12:40 PM
Free-agent OG Evan Mathis (Eagles) isn't of interest to the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings want to see what they have in their young guys but could become interested if issues arise.
|Footballguys view: Mathis is a talented player, but he's going to come with a larger price tag than some organizations will want to play. Reports indicate he's getting interest from several teams, and we should see him signed to a new team at some point before or near the start of training camp.|
Rams | Todd Gurley to open camp on NFI Tue Jul 21, 11:13 AM
St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is expected to be placed on the Non-Football Injury list when training camp opens. This was the team's plan, and he can be removed from it at any time.
|Footballguys view: This move was expected for the rookie first-round pick. Gurley is incredibly talented and can be a top-5 fantasy running back when healthy and playing up to his potential. He's still recovering from a knee injury he suffered last year at Georgia, so the Rams are going to ease him back into action as we draw closer to the regular season.|

Titans | Justin Hunter charged with felony Tue Jul 21, 10:45 AM
Updating an earlier report, Tennessee Titans WR Justin Hunter has been charged with one count of felonious assault. According to the jail report, the charges are 'malicious intent, stabbing, cutting, wounding.'
|Footballguys view: Hunter was already a player who might have been on the roster bubble after two disappointing seasons in the pros. The Titans may just wash their hands of him after these charges have come to light.|

Titans | More on Justin Hunter Tue Jul 21, 09:12 AM
Updating previous reports, Tennessee Titans WR Justin Hunter will have a bond hearing and arraignment at 2 p.m. ET Tuesday, July 21, in Virginia Beach, Va.
|Footballguys view: Police reports indicate the victim in this case was seriously injured, but the wounds were not life-threatening. Hunter was charged with stabbing, cutting, malicious intent and wounding, plus he was charged with felonious assault. We'll likely see him put on the Commissioner's Exempt List while this legal matter gets sorted out.|

Giants | Eli Manning extension sought after Tue Jul 21, 09:01 AM
New York Giants QB Eli Manning could have an extension signed by the team before or early in training camp. Manning is set to make $17 million and count $19.25 million against the cap this season.
|Footballguys view: Manning is entering the final year of his contract, so the two sides will work to come together on an extension to keep him around with the Giants. Earlier this year, Ben Roethlisberger signed a five-year $99 million extension with the Steelers, and we could see Manning get something in that range. At age 34, Manning could post carer-best numbers in year two working under offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.|

Ravens | Dennis Pitta to open on PUP Tue Jul 21, 08:41 AM
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is expected to open the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to sources. This would mean he'll miss at least the first six games. He has rehabilitated the hip to the point where he's able to do some route running and individual drills, but wasn't allowed to fully participate during the Ravens' offseason practices.
|Footballguys view: Pitta's career may be done, and starting the season--not training camp, the season--on PUP shows just how serious this injury is. We're not surprised by this move as it was always expected, and that's why the Ravens moved to add tight end talent this year. In the second round of the 2015 NFL draft, they added Maxx Williams from Minnesota. He reminds us of a young Jason Witten (Cowboys), and the rookie will compete with second-year pro Crockett Gillmore for the starting tight end position in 2015.|

Broncos | Fewer targets for Emmanuel Sanders? Mon Jul 20, 10:21 PM
Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders had a breakout season and Pro Bowl appearance in 2014, but with a tweaked offense under head coach Gary Kubiak the receiver might see fewer passes thrown his way.
|Footballguys view: Fantasy owners should be dialed into this story. Sanders admitted earlier this year that he'll likely see fewer targets and receptions in 2015, but he's aiming to surpass 1,000 receiving yards again. We feel in the Kubiak offense Sanders could post 75 catches for around 1,000 yards with 5-7 touchdowns on the year. Kubiak will utilize the tight end position more in addition to emphasizing the running game more than the team did under John Fox. This change in philosophy will alter the numbers for Sanders.|

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas catching up Mon Jul 20, 10:21 PM
Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is signed to his five-year deal, but he missed all of the offseason workouts and organized team activities (OTAs), so it will take a bit of time before he is up to speed.
|Footballguys view: We can't imagine things will take that long for Thomas. He'll be there for the opening day of training camp, and we'd guess by two weeks in Thomas will be up to speed. Gary Kubiak has said the wide receivers have the most to learn because of the terminology.|
Demaryius Thomas player page
Broncos | Andre Caldwell in a contract year Mon Jul 20, 10:20 PM
Denver Broncos WR Andre Caldwell is in the final year of his contract. He will be battling other receivers for backup spots, but is believed to be at the top of the list for the No. 4 job. He could be especially useful if he works his way into a kickoff return job.
|Footballguys view: Caldwell has not impressed when given a larger role with the Broncos. He's already been passed on the depth chart by Cody Latimer, and there's no guarantee that he makes the final roster.|
Andre Caldwell player page
Broncos | Jordan Norwood making comeback Mon Jul 20, 10:18 PM
Denver Broncos WR Jordan Norwood (knee) appears to be completely healed from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last summer. He did well in organized team activities (OTAs), and was running crisp routes. He is in the mix to serve on punt-return duties.
|Footballguys view: Norwood was on track to make the team last year as a reserve receiver and as a return man. He seemed to be back near full strength during offseason workouts, and his play could push a guy like Andre Cadlwell off the roster.|
Jordan Norwood player page
Broncos | David Porter competing for spot Mon Jul 20, 10:17 PM
Denver Broncos WR David Porter could be competing for a practice squad spot during training camp and the preseason, but he is not believed to have a shot at a 53-man roster spot.
|Footballguys view: Porter caught 74 passes for 954 yards and 10 touchdowns in 51 games while at TCU. He is working to show that he should stick around on the practice squad as a developmental slot receiver.|
Broncos | Jordan Taylor has good hands Mon Jul 20, 10:16 PM
Denver Broncos WR Jordan Taylor (undisclosed) dealt with an undisclosed injury during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. However, he caught multiple deep passes during offseason practices. 'He catches everything around him and he's gone up and made a couple plays on some deep balls, which have stood out,' QB Peyton Manning said during minicamp.
|Footballguys view: Taylor is an interesting player to monitor in super deep dynasty leagues. He's tall (6'5") and can win above the rim. During his college career at Rice, Taylor showed the ability to track deep passes over his shoulder. Taylor is a deep target with big-play ability. He could stick around in Denver on the practice squad to further develop his skill set.|
Broncos | Bennie Fowler is a big target Mon Jul 20, 10:14 PM
Denver Broncos WR Bennie Fowler posted five grabs for 55 yards last preseason, but wound up on the practice squad for the season. He is a big target at 6-foot-1 and 212 pounds, and if he uses his frame well in the preseason he could manage to work his way onto the 53-man regular season roster.
|Footballguys view: Fowler might make the final roster this year. He can make difficult catches seem routine, and Fowler has good strength after the catch. Fowler is fearless when running routes over the middle, and he was a reliable target in the preseason last year.|
Broncos | Nathan Palmer is longshot for job Mon Jul 20, 10:11 PM
Denver Broncos WR Nathan Palmer is in the hunt for a spot on the 53-man roster, but he likely needs an outstanding training camp and big play in the preseason to land a job.
|Footballguys view: Nathan Palmer has bounced around with the San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins, almost exclusively on the practice squads of each team. He was activated for one game last year, but he has to be considered a longshot to make the final roster.|

Broncos | Kyle Williams getting a look Mon Jul 20, 10:10 PM
Denver Broncos WR Kyle Williams is looking to make an impression on special teams to earn a roster spot in training camp and the preseason. He has averaged 24.0 yards per kickoff return, and 8.1 yards per punt return.
|Footballguys view: Williams also has fumbled once every 15.5 opportunities during his career, something he needs to cure if he wants to find a job. Most remember two major blunders by Williams when he was with the 49ers in the 2012 NFC Championship Game.|
Kyle Williams player page
Broncos | Solomon Patton has unique skill set Mon Jul 20, 10:09 PM
Denver Broncos WR Solomon Patton has a unique skill set, and he is likened to former Broncos WR and kickoff return man Trindon Holliday. He is in the mix for a spot on kickoffs and punt returns, but needs to show even more explosiveness to stick around. He could even have spot use on offense, but he needs to take care of the ball better.
|Footballguys view: Patton has tremendous speed and quickness. He could make the team as a kick returner and give the team a playmaking receiver for depth.|
Broncos | Isaiah Burse will get chance Mon Jul 20, 10:08 PM
Denver Broncos WR Isaiah Burse narrowly missed out on a job last season as the punt return man, but he went to the practice squad instead and finished the season there. He needs to show development as a slot receiver in training camp and the preseason, but could be in the mix for a job if things break right.
|Footballguys view: Burse has good explosion and change-of-direction ability. As a slot receiver, Burse can be dangerous in the open field. This skill set also helps him impress as a return man.|

Bengals | Marvin Jones feeling fine Mon Jul 20, 10:07 PM
Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (foot) did not play in 2014 due to a foot injury that required surgery to remove bone chips. However, he said Monday, July 20, that the foot is a non-issue. 'We looked at it, got it fixed, and it's not there anymore,' Jones said. 'It was an unfortunate situation, but it's behind me.'
|Footballguys view: Fantasy owners and Bengals fans are hoping that Jones can build off his 2013 season where he had over 700 receiving yards and caught 10 touchdowns. If healthy, Jones could outperform his current ADP of WR57 (13.03) in 12-team leagues.|

Eagles | Sam Bradford plans to play out deal Mon Jul 20, 07:30 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford plans to play out the final year of his contract and will not sign a contract extension at this point.
|Footballguys view: Bradford's contract is one we won't see in the NFL ever again. His rookie deal (with $50 million guaranteed) was put in place before the rookie salary cap. Now, rookie quarterbacks end up with much less guaranteed money. Bradford may end up retiring if he can't stay healthy this year. Multiple knee injuries have derailed his time in the NFL. He's got a $12.9 million cap number this year and is hoping that a fresh start with the Eagles may jump-start his career.|

Broncos | Coach excited about Cody Latimer Mon Jul 20, 06:34 PM
Denver Broncos WR Cody Latimer showed improvement during offseason workouts while working with the starting offense, and head coach Gary Kubiak is excited about Latimer will add to the offense. 'I'm really excited about what he can bring and I know he's a lot better now than when he started,' Kubiak said. 'I'm excited moving forward.'
|Footballguys view: Dynasty owners should be excited by Latimer, and re-draft owners should consider him a late-round flier in deeper drafts. Latimer didn't do much as a rookie, but incredible natural talent is there. He's a big receiver who can play above the rim, and Latimer makes difficult catches seem routine. Latimer will play on the outside opposite Demaryius Thomas when the team utilizes three-wide receiver sets.|

Titans | Justin Hunter arrested Mon Jul 20, 06:33 PM
Tennessee Titans WR Justin Hunter was arrested Monday, July 20, and has been charged with assault because of an incident earlier this month. Hunter was allegedly involved in a fight at a bar in Virginia Beach that sent a person to the hospital.
|Footballguys view: Hunter turned himself in to authorities after a warrant was put out for his arrest. He's a talented-but-underachieving player, and this type of incident could be what breaks the camel's back for the Titans. Don't be surprised if the team sends him packing. Hunter is due to be arraigned on Tuesday.|
