Colts | Phillip Dorsett expected to help early Thu May 14, 01:04 PM
Indianapolis Colts WR Phillip Dorsett is expected to make an early impact on offense because of his speed, according to offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton.
|Footballguys view: Help early as what...a decoy? The Colts have a jam-packed group of wide receivers, and the rookie Dorsett is likely fourth in the pecking order behind T.Y. Hilton, Andre Johnson and Donte Moncrief. Oh yeah, throw in tight ends Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener and you have an even tighter window for potential targets. Dorsett is a fine player, we just don't know how he's going to be fantasy relevant this season unless injuries hit in front of him on the depth chart. His current ADP is WR68 (13.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.|
Jaguars | Ben Koyack signed Thu May 14, 12:31 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars TE Ben Koyack signed a contract with the team Thursday, May 14. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: In the seventh round of the 2015 NFL draft, the Jaguars decided to take a developmental tight end as Koyack was their pick. His game is reminiscent of Luke Willson (Seahawks) as Koyack is big and can challenge the middle seam of a defense. He only has one year of starting experience under his belt, and Koyack needs some mechanical work. He's a fine player to develop behind Julius Thomas, and fantasy owners in deep dynasty leagues should be monitoring his progress.|
Bengals | C.J. Uzomah signs deal Thu May 14, 12:31 PM
Cincinnati Bengals TE C.J. Uzomah signed a contract with the team Thursday, May 14. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: In the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft, the Bengals added Uzomah--a former high school wide receiver with move tight end ability at the pro level. Uzomah can line up all over the field (slot, in-line, out wide, in the backfield), and this versatility could help him get on the field as a rookie. He'll compete for playing time behind Tyler Eifert and fellow rookie Tyler Kroft.|
Steelers | Jesse James signed Thu May 14, 12:03 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jesse James signed a four-year contract with the team Thursday, May 14. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: James, a fifth-round pick by the Steelers this year, has great size at 6'7" 260 pounds. His length makes him a great target near pay dirt as he can high-point passes away from defenders. James is not a seam-ripper, but he does have decent straight-line speed. He's an in-line tight end the team will groom and develop.|
Redskins | Alfred Morris may land new deal Thu May 14, 09:58 AM
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris has a 50% chance to land a contract extension with the team, in the opinion of beat writer John Keim. Morris is in the final year of his contract.
|Footballguys view: Washington drafted Matt Jones (Florida) in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft, but they still may decide to keep Morris around. Morris has been productive for Washington with 3,955 rushing yards over the last three seasons. His numbers have dipped slightly during that time, but Morris is still a RB2 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is RB15 (3.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

49ers | Torrey Smith should free up Vernon Davis Thu May 14, 08:17 AM
San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith's arrival should free up TE Vernon Davis to stretch the field, according to general manager Trent Baalke. 'The one thing that really shows up is the way the field's opened up more with the speed or Torrey being able to stretch the outside,' Baalke said. 'And it really helps Vernon's game because now Vernon's game is (to) stretch the field a little bit, as well.'
|Footballguys view: The team needs to get Davis back on track after a hugely disappointing 2014 season where he only caught 26 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns. Smith has the speed to stretch the field and open up routes underneath. We'll see if his presence can help spring Davis free.|

49ers | Carlos Hyde expected to start Thu May 14, 01:49 AM
San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde is the expected starter heading into the regular season while RBs Reggie Bush, Kendall Hunter and rookie Mike Davis all compete for touches as well.
|Footballguys view: This is what fantasy owners have been expecting. With Frank Gore (Colts) gone, Hyde gets to take over as the lead back. Bush should be the primary change-of-pace player behind him on the depth chart. We like the upside of rookie Mike Davis in dynasty leagues, but his impact may be minimal this year. Hyde has a current ADP of RB17 (3.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Cowboys | Demarcus Lawrence to rush more Wed May 13, 11:42 PM
Dallas Cowboys DE Demarcus Lawrence will be counted upon in the pass rush more this season, and the team is banking on him making great strides in his second year.
|Footballguys view: The Cowboys defense is going to be one to watch for fantasy owners. They've added pass-rushing talent this offseason through the draft and free agency. Plus, it sounds like they want to turn Lawrence loose this year. He is up to 260 pounds, a weight he wants to stay for the season, and he likes the way he gets off on his left side with his right hand down.|

Lions | Ameer Abdullah draws odd comparison Wed May 13, 09:29 PM
Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah drew a comparison to Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith Wednesday, May 13, from personal trainer Otis Leverette. 'He reminds me a ton of Steve Smith and you see what he's done in the league,' Leverette said. 'I played with him in (a college) all-star game and played with him in the league for a while, they've kind of got that same thing to them. They just don't know that they're supposed to be small, they don't believe in obstacles. The things that other people see as obstacles, they just see as another day at the office.'
|Footballguys view: Um, okay...so there's that. It's unusual to compare a running back to a wide receiver, but we get the point. Abdullah lacks ideal size to be a bellcow runner in the pros. However, he is a willing runner inside who does not shy away from contact. Abdullah is never going to push a pile or consistently run through arm tackles, but he's very dangerous in space. If he gets a crease, he can make a big play happen on a between-the-tackles carry.|
Colts | Dwayne Allen missing offseason program Wed May 13, 08:05 PM
Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen is missing the first four weeks of the Colts' offseason program as part of his plan to play as many as 20 games in 2015. "The high ankle sprain (from 2014) lingered a little longer then I wanted it to. I talked to (Coach Pagano) about it and there was an understanding. I've been out here for two months, just grinding, getting my body in good shape so that I can go out and the team can depend on me. Getting late in the year (2014), I had a banged up knee and a banged up ankle. They didn't feel, I didn't feel, that they could depend on me and that was frustrating because I feel as if, in every situation throughout the season, they can count me," Allen said.
|Footballguys view: Allen expects to rejoin the team Monday, May 18, for the beginning of organized team activities. The Colts have a ton of weapons on offense after collecting wide receivers through the draft and free agency. These added weapons could impact the fantasy numbers that Allen puts up in 2015. His current ADP is TE10 (9.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Cowboys | Dez Bryant's contract about risk Wed May 13, 08:03 PM
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant isn't appearing likely to receive the long-term deal he wants from the Cowboys this offseason. Even if the Cowboys are able to agree on the financial terms with Bryant, the wide receiver will need to agree to some type of off-the-field structure designed to limit his risk.
|Footballguys view: This has always been the case with Bryant, and the Cowboys have done a good job of monitoring him off the field so far in his pro career. The two sides may not be close now, but that could change instantly when the mid-July deadline approaches for signing franchise players to long-term contracts. Stay tuned.|

Ravens | Maxx Williams to make RZ impact? Wed May 13, 06:44 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams is expected to make an impact right away on third down and in the red zone, according to general manager Ozzie Newsome.
|Footballguys view: We consider Williams a star in the making. He reminds us of a young Jason Witten (Cowboys) because of his smooth athleticism, soft hands and fearlessness running routes over the middle. The Ravens needed a TE1 with Owen Daniels (Broncos) moving on in free agency. Williams can be considered a TE2 with TE1 upside for fantasy owners. His current ADP is TE16 (12.12) in 12-team PPR leagues...but we expect this to rise as the season gets closer.|
Lions | Stephen Tulloch to participate in OTAs? Wed May 13, 05:09 PM
Detroit Lions LB Stephen Tulloch (knee) plans to be ready for organized team activities later this month. Tulloch is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but said he'll start running more in a couple weeks.
|Footballguys view: He can return to OTAs soon, but the team doesn't want him to celebrate anything. Tulloch was injured celebrating a sack last year, and now he's going to be eased back in during OTAs. He'll be near 100 percent at the start of the regular season if the recovery goes as planned.|
Stephen Tulloch player page
Raiders | Andre Debose signs Wed May 13, 05:00 PM
Oakland Raiders WR Andre Debose signed an undisclosed contract Wednesday, May 13.
|Footballguys view: Debose is a pure speed player who can contribute as a return man. He only had one catch last year for the Florida Gators.|
Jaguars | Neal Sterling signs Wed May 13, 04:59 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Neal Sterling signed an undisclosed contract Wednesday, May 13.
|Footballguys view: Sterling is a small-school prospect (Monmouth) with the ability to play wide receiver, tight end or H-back. He's got a large catch radius and knows how to box out smaller defenders.|
49ers | Colin Kaepernick helped by Reggie Bush Wed May 13, 04:25 PM
San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush has been an asset to QB Colin Kaepernick this offseason, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Baalke said Bush and Kaepernick have developed a rapport and that Bush's downfield speed gives Kaepernick more room to work with.
|Footballguys view: The 49ers need as many weapons around Kaepernick as they can possibly get. Bush will play as a change-of-pace back behind Carlos Hyde this season. Hyde is going off the board at RB17 (3.12) in 12-team PPR leagues while Bush's ADP is at RB43 (9.08).|

Chargers | Denzel Perryman signs Wed May 13, 04:17 PM
San Diego Chargers LB Denzel Perryman signed an undisclosed contract Wednesday, May 13.
|Footballguys view: We love the pick of Perryman. He's a smart linebacker who arrives at the ball-carrier with natural violence. Perryman will consistently wrap up his man and does a good job of avoiding blockers tasked with taking him on at the second level. He'll struggle in coverage at the pro level, but he's at least a quality two-down thumper for the Chargers.|
Cardinals | Andre Ellington aided by new RB? Wed May 13, 03:17 PM
Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington said the selection of rookie RB David Johnson will give him more rest time and keep the offense upbeat.
|Footballguys view: Early reports indicate that Ellington will still be the lead back, but the Cardinals will employ some form of RBBC this season. Johnson is a rhythm runner who can grind down an opponent as the game goes on. Ellington's current ADP is RB19 (4.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.|
Andre Ellington player page
Titans | Tre McBride receives deal Wed May 13, 02:24 PM
Tennessee Titans WR Tre McBride signed a contract with the team Wednesday, May 13. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: McBride has some of the best hands in this draft class. He can make difficult catches seem routine, and his catch radius helps him play bigger than his size (6'0"). McBride can make an impact as a return man or reserve receiver during his rookie year. Savvy dynasty owners should be drooling over his long-term upside.|
Lions | Ameer Abdullah signs deal Wed May 13, 02:18 PM
Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah signed a four-year deal with the team Wednesday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Abdullah is an explosive change-of-pace back who should fill in as the "Reggie Bush" of this offense behind Joique Bell. He has the speed to eat up chunks of yardage in a hurry as a runner in space or as a receiver out of the backfield. Abdullah lacks the ideal size to be a bellcow back at the pro level, but he is an intent runner between the tackles--he's just never going to push the pile or run through arm tackles regularly. He also needs to improve his pass-protection before he is asked to play a larger role on the Lions offense.|
Lions | Greg Salas signed Wed May 13, 02:18 PM
Free-agent WR Greg Salas (Jets) signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions Wednesday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: The Lions just signed Lance Moore earlier this week, and this move for Salas has a similar tone. They are looking for veteran experience and depth at the wide receiver position behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. We like Moore's chances of making the final roster, but we feel Salas faces a larger uphill battle.|

Bills | EJ Manuel likes new offense Wed May 13, 01:29 PM
Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel said he likes the new offense that offensive coordinator Greg Roman is bringing to the team. 'I just think the dynamics that we have and the personnel that we have, you look at the receivers, running backs and the tight ends we have at the skill positions and the O-linemen getting better, getting stronger, getting nastier,' Manuel said. 'But with the shifts and motions and the things we'll do to mix it up for a defense is going to be really good. Instead of just being vanilla we'll have a whole lot of different looks for opponents to prepare for.'
|Footballguys view: Manuel has looked uncomfortable running a pro offense since the Bills selected him in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft. Having him more comfortable in the system could lead to Manuel playing better. He's competing for the starting job with Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor. The winner of the competition is not going to be much of a fantasy factor due to the run-heavy nature of the Bills offense.|

Ravens | Kyle Arrington may be a target Wed May 13, 01:05 PM
Free-agent CB Kyle Arrington (Patriots) is receiving interest from the Baltimore Ravens.
|Footballguys view: Arrington could return to the Patriots at a smaller salary, but there will be other teams out there (like Baltimore) willing to take a chance on the veteran. The need at corner is there for the Ravens...and not just as a slot corner behind Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith. Webb is coming off a disappointing 2014, and Smith is recovering from Lisfranc surgery. If he's added, there's a chance Arrington could end up playing significant snaps for the Ravens in 2015.|

Saints | Stephone Anthony signs deal Wed May 13, 12:33 PM
New Orleans Saints LB Stephone Anthony signed a four-year deal with the team Tuesday, May 12, worth $7.731 million. The deal includes a $3.883 million signing bonus and $6.242 million in guaranteed money.
|Footballguys view: Anthony was a bit of a surprise pick at the end of the first round this year. In college, Anthony was a consistent tackler with the ability to play sideline-to-sideline. He'll be tested in coverage as a pro, and Anthony will have to improve his diagnostic skills when playing against quarterbacks who effectively use their eyes to manipulate their defense.|
Chiefs | Chris Conley signs rookie deal Wed May 13, 12:31 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Chris Conley signed his rookie four-year deal Wednesday, May 13.
|Footballguys view: Conley is one of our favorite rookie receivers in this class--and not only because he made a sweet Star Wars fan film called "Retribution." He didn't put up gaudy numbers in Georgia's run-heavy offense, but Conley can certainly produce when called upon. He has the speed to get on top of the defense in a hurry, and he does a good job of tracking the ball over his shoulder. Conley has the footwork and body control to snare passes near the sidelines or at the back of the end zone. He'll compete for the starting job opposite Jeremy Maclin this year.|
Giants | Victor Cruz not rushing rehab Wed May 13, 12:28 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) said he will not rush his rehab in order to participate in offseason workouts and minicamps.
|Footballguys view: Cruz has a good chance to be ready for training camp, but we feel the team will ease him back into action at that time. He is feeling good and has not reported swelling in the knee even after workouts. All signs are pointing to Cruz being available when the Giants hit the field in Week 1 of the regular season.|

Bills | John Conner to Buffalo Wed May 13, 11:53 AM
Free-agent FB John Conner (Jets) signed with the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, May 13. FB Corey Knox was waived to make room for him.
|Footballguys view: Conner is reunited with former Jets head coach (and current Bills head coach) Rex Ryan. He's not a lock to make the final roster, but he does give the team another fullback behind starter Jerome Felton.|

Patriots | Tom Brady's ban could be overturned Wed May 13, 09:55 AM
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's four-game suspension could be reduced significantly, and possibly overturned, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Brady has put together a renowned legal team to appeal his suspension.
|Footballguys view: The legal team is made up of some of the best lawyers in the country. The appeals process will take some time, and we believe his sentence could be reduced to a couple of games instead of four. Some feel this legal team could eliminate the suspension entirely....stay tuned.|

Giants | Victor Cruz begins making cuts Wed May 13, 09:25 AM
Updating previous reports, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) has begun making cuts in his routes, and he labeled himself about 75-80% in his recovery from a torn patellar tendon.
|Footballguys view: The Giants will keep monitoring Cruz closely as he returns from his serious knee injury. The fact that he's making cuts already and we're in mid-May is a good sign. They won't ask him to do much during minicamp and OTAs. Even when the team gets to training camp, Cruz should be eased back into action. The plan is to have him available in Week 1 of the regular season even if he's not quite 100 percent.|

Lions | Glover Quin restructures Wed May 13, 09:06 AM
Detroit Lions S Glover Quin restructured his contract Wednesday, May 13, to create $2.17 million of salary cap space. His $4 million base salary was slashed to $745,000 for 2015.
|Footballguys view: Quin has emerged as one of the top safeties in the league during his two seasons with the Lions. He's got 10 interceptions over that period and is a valuable asset for their defense. This move gives the Lions some much-needed breathing room on the salary cap. They are paying out more than $17 million in dead money this season and have a total cap number over $151 million according to OverTheCap.com.|

Giants | Victor Cruz won't practice in minicamp Tue May 12, 07:06 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) will not participate in team practices during the Giants' minicamp, but will be doing some of his own rehabilitation work.
|Footballguys view: There's no need to risk further injury in minicamp or OTAs. Even when training camp gets here, we expect Cruz to be limited as he continues to recover. Cruz has already started running routes.|

Giants | Victor Cruz improving Tue May 12, 07:05 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) did not experience swelling in his injured knee after running routes and doing some agility drills.
|Footballguys view: Great news for the Giants here. Cruz's recovery is going to be monitored closely with the plan of him being ready for the season opener. He may not be quite 100 percent at that time, but the team will ease him back in as the season goes on.|

Buccaneers | D.J. Swearinger claimed Tue May 12, 05:13 PM
Free-agent SS D.J. Swearinger was officially claimed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday, May 12.
|Footballguys view: The Buccaneers sit at the top of the waiver wire priority list, and they've been looking to upgrade their secondary all offseason. Swearinger struggles in coverage and he sometimes takes bad angles as a run-defender, but he's a strong intimidator who can play close to the line of scrimmage. He'll compete with Bradley McDougald for the starting strong safety position.|
D.J. Swearinger player page
Browns | Josh McCown showing leadership Tue May 12, 05:01 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown has taken control of the Cleveland offense and the locker room, according to new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo. Head coach Mike Pettine has already said that McCown's experience has given him the advantage for the starting quarterback position.
|Footballguys view: McCown is a seasoned veteran, and he's the type of player who will take control on a team without an overwhelming leader on offense. He'll likely be able to hold off Johnny Manziel for the starting job in Week 1. However, if Manziel can clean up his game then the team might want to take a look at him as the starter later in the regular season.|

Falcons | Tevin Coleman signs with Atlanta Tue May 12, 04:33 PM
Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman signed a four-year contract Tuesday, May 12. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: We love this addition for the Falcons. Coleman will compete with Devonta Freeman for the starting running back position. We like the rookie in this competition. Coleman has a running style similar to that of DeMarco Murray (Eagles). Coleman runs upright, but he's a swift runner with field-flipping speed. He can score from anywhere on the field, and Coleman is always looking for that big play. Coleman will be a fine fit in the Kyle Shanahan offense. His current ADP is RB43 (9.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.|
Texans | Houston QBs to share reps Tue May 12, 03:17 PM
Houston Texans QBs Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett will split first-team repetitions once organized team activities (OTAs) begin later this month.
|Footballguys view: Awesome, too bad they don't have better quarterbacks to choose from. The Texans have a fine group of skill position players, led by Arian Foster and DeAndre Hopkins. They won't be able to get the most out of their passing game unless Hoyer, Mallett or Tom Savage start to play out of this world. This will hold the fantasy potential of the offense back in 2015.|

Bills | Fred Jackson may miss final cut? Tue May 12, 03:10 PM
Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson may not make the final roster if the Bills end up keeping only three running backs, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN.com. RB LeSean McCoy is a lock for the final roster, while RBs Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown will also compete for a spot.
|Footballguys view: We can't imagine this happening, but in the NFL anything is possible. We would rather keep Jackson--and his $2.7 million cap number--over cheaper options like Dixon or Brown.|
Fred Jackson player page
Lions | Lance Moore signs with Motown Tue May 12, 01:16 PM
Free-agent WR Lance Moore (Steelers) signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions.
|Footballguys view: Moore is not the same player he used to be as evidenced by his 2014 season with the Steelers. The Lions have inexperienced--but talented--receivers behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. Moore (known mostly for his time in New Orleans) is reunited with former Saints assistant Joe Lombardi, and he gives the team valuable veteran depth at the position.|

Jaguars | Dante Fowler terms Tue May 12, 01:02 PM
Updating an earlier report, Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) signed a four-year, $23.5 million deal with no offsets, according to a source. The deal is fully guaranteed, despite the fact that he tore his anterior cruciate ligament recently.
|Footballguys view: Fowler signed a waiver with the Jaguars so he could participate in rookie minicamp. That deal stated the Jaguars would deal with him fairly in the event of an emergency. The Jaguars certainly did just that. Now, the team will look to get the pass-rusher healthy for the 2016 season.|

Redskins | Brandon Scherff signs rookie deal Tue May 12, 12:53 PM
Washington Redskins OT Brandon Scherff signed his rookie deal Tuesday, May 12. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Passing on DT Leonard Williams (Jets) could come back to haunt Washington. Scherff will start on the right side for the team and help their power up front. He's an incredibly strong prospect with the ability to pancake his opponent. Scherff needs to clean up his pass-protection ability (kickslide, balance) in order to play up to his potential as a pro.|
Bengals | A.J. McCarron plans to challenge Andy Dalton Tue May 12, 12:32 PM
Cincinnati Bengals backup QB A.J. McCarron (shoulder), who spent almost all of his rookie season in 2014 on the non-football injury list with a shoulder injury from college, plans to push QB Andy Dalton hard for the starting job in training camp this summer. 'Andy's our starter. I know that. I love Andy to death. But I want to make him better every way that I can,' McCarron said. The coaches said McCarron looks to be throwing pain-free this offseason. He spent the offseason training with quarterbacks coaches David Morris and Tom House, and House changed some of McCarron's mechanics to help him throw tighter with more compact body control.
|Footballguys view: Try not to spit out your coffee when you read the headline. We love McCarron's confidence, but how about a dose of reality? McCarron is a backup-level quarterback at the pro level. Sure, Dalton isn't Andrew Luck but he's certainly better than McCarron 10 times out of 10 and twice on Sundays. Dynasty owners take note that we're not expecting much from the former Alabama quarterback. We'll see if McCarron can prove us (and a lot of other people) wrong about his upside.|

Cowboys | Joseph Randle could play leading role Tue May 12, 10:34 AM
Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle could see the bulk of the carries as the season weighs on, in the opinion of beat writer Todd Archer. Archer pegged Randle for 1,200 rushing yards this season in what Archer admitted was a bold prediction.
|Footballguys view: Opinions on Randle run hot and cold when you talk to Dallas reporters and beat writers. Some think he's not going to make the team, while others (like Archer here) believe he could be the team's top back. There's no denying Randle's talent as a runner. He's got good speed and can make big plays happen with just a little running room--plus he's a decent receiver. Fantasy owners need to monitor the Cowboys running back situation closely. With their offensive line nearly any back can be fantasy relevant with the right amount of touches.|

Panthers | D.J. Swearinger on radar Mon May 11, 10:29 PM
The Carolina Panthers are interested in SS D.J. Swearinger, waived by the Houston Texans Monday, May 11. Many teams would have to pass on him for the Panthers to get a claim off waivers.
|Footballguys view: We're not sure Swearinger is going to get picked up via waivers. He's struggled covering and in run support. The Panthers are looking for secondary help, but Swearinger isn't the best answer.|

Lions | Corey Wootton visits Allen Park Mon May 11, 10:28 PM
The Detroit Lions worked out free-agent DT Corey Wootton (Vikings) Monday, May 11, according to a source.

49ers | DeAndre Smelter agrees to terms Mon May 11, 10:27 PM
The San Francisco 49ers signed WR DeAndre Smelter to a contract Monday, May 11. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.
|Footballguys view: Smelter was a fourth-round pick by the 49ers in the 2015 NFL draft. He's a big, physical wide receiver who plays with a high football intelligence. Smelter suffered an ACL injury late last year, and his playing status for 2015 is up in the air. He's a developmental prospect worth keeping an eye on in dynasty leagues.|
49ers | Mike Davis signs on dotted line Mon May 11, 10:25 PM
The San Francisco 49ers signed RB Mike Davis to a contract Monday, May 11. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.
|Footballguys view: We like Davis and his natural skill set for running the rock. He's got some power to his game, and Davis is tough to bring down with his low center of gravity. Davis fell to the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft as he was coming off a down season. In 2013, Davis looked much better. Conditioning and motivation seemed to be problems for him last season.|
49ers | Blake Bell signs rookie deal Mon May 11, 10:25 PM
The San Francisco 49ers signed TE Blake Bell to a contract Monday, May 11. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.
|Footballguys view: This wasn't a great class of tight ends, but we love Bell's upside. At 6'6" 260 pounds, Bell can fly down the field and create mismatches against linebackers or safeties. Bell only played tight end one season for the Sooners, and he's still somewhat raw at the position. If he can develop, Bell has high upside and potential.|
49ers | SF interested in Lance Briggs Mon May 11, 10:16 PM
The San Francisco 49ers are interested in free-agent LB Lance Briggs (Bears), a source said Monday, May 11. Any player signed after May 12 does not count against the NFL's formula for awarding compensatory picks.
|Footballguys view: The 49ers are in need of linebacker help in any way possible. NaVorro Bowman and Michael Wilhoite should be the 49ers' starting inside linebackers this season. They didn't select a linebacker in the draft, but they did add Nick Bellore and Philip Wheeler in free agency.|

Patriots | Jimmy Garoppolo to make starts Mon May 11, 09:37 PM
New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to start while QB Tom Brady serves his suspension for 'DeflateGate'. Brady was suspended four games by the National Football League Monday, May 11, but intends to appeal the penalty.
|Footballguys view: Garoppolo looked good during the preseason last year. He's got a quick release, and Garoppolo makes good decisions with the football. Starting the regular season is much different from making plays against reserve players in August. We could see the team try to lean more on the ground game while Brady is out.|
