Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno doesn't practice    Thu Sep 18, 05:17 PM

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: In other news, water is wet. Moreno suffered an elbow injury in Week 2 and he's going to miss some time because of it. He could be out at least four weeks, but it could be as many as eight weeks depending on his rehab.

Panthers | Greg Olsen a full go    Thu Sep 18, 04:46 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (calf) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: With Newton back, his more reliable target in the passing game is Olsen. He's a low-end TE1 each week.

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart limited    Thu Sep 18, 04:46 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Gerhart has been a disappointment, though his offensive line is not opening holes for him and last week he didn't see work because the team was blown out. Right now he is no better than a RB4. Maybe things get better if (when) Blake Bortles takes over at QB for the Jaguars.

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts limited    Thu Sep 18, 04:43 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18, for the second straight day.

Footballguys view: The Jags are crossing their fingers, toes and tails hoping Shorts can come back because they are down to a rookie and some also-rans. Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns are hurt, so Shorts would step right back into his number one spot although his best case fantasy scenario is really WR4.

Jaguars | Allen Hurns sits out practice    Thu Sep 18, 04:40 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 18. Head coach Gus Bradley said Hurns will have to prove he can play Friday or else he will be inactive.

Footballguys view: It's looking like the Allen Robinson-Mike Brown-Tavarres King show and that's just a bad rerun. The only guy really worth a look is Robinson, who has a WR5 fantasy outlook.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin shows growing pains    Thu Sep 18, 04:40 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin looked good in his first NFL game in Week 1, but he showed growing pains on route running, downfield blocking and with dropped passes in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. The team graded Benjamin a 70 out of 100 in Week 1 for poor routes and a lack of blocking. He was graded at 93 last week despite catching only two passes for 43 yards. Benjamin also had three drops against the Lions after having a high drop rate of 9 percent at Florida State in 2013.

Footballguys view: The concern about Benjamin, and why many didn't like the pick, was that he was very raw. So it's no surprise he needs work in blocking or route running, That said, he has still managed to play well and put up nice numbers, which means his upside is significant, though it may not be fulfilled this year. This week we feel Benjamin should put up WR3 numbers even if Tampa Bay plays tough.

Falcons | Roddy White to sit out?    Thu Sep 18, 04:36 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (hamstring) isn't expected to be active for the Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Sept. 18, in the opinion of CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora.

Footballguys view: White had a great Week 1 but was only average Week 2 against the Bengals. Ultimately that's what you'll get week to week--sometimes up, sometimes down. Thursday night looks bad, so get another option.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin not expected to be involved    Thu Sep 18, 04:34 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) may not be active in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Sept. 18. If he is active, he's not expected to be involved much in the game plan.

Footballguys view: Bump up Rainey, who we are liking as a really good RB2 with some upside. Atlanta hasn't fixed their run defense and Rainey has shown he can rock out when needed. We like him Thursday night.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin returns to full practice    Thu Sep 18, 04:31 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Benjamin has surprised many with his season so far and he seems to have built some good chemistry with Cam Newton. I guess all those off season pitch-and-toss sessions paid off. If he plays, Benjamin should put up solid WR3 numbers.

Chargers | Keenan Allen limited     Thu Sep 18, 04:22 PM

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (groin) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: The is probably caution on the part of the Chargers, but bears watching. A solid WR2, Allen has a good matchup against the Buffalo Bills, though the Bills have been surprisingly solid.

Ravens | Joe Flacco fully participates    Thu Sep 18, 04:16 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (illness) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Flacco is ready to go....right to your fantasy bench. He's been up and down this year so far and we're not loving his prospects this week. Expect in the range of 250 yards and maybe a touchdown keeping him deep in the QB2 range.

Link to story

Ravens | Bernard Pierce limited    Thu Sep 18, 04:14 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Pierce and Forsett. Forsett and Pierce. This has all the makings of a confusing RBBC, even before you factor in Pierce's injury. Likely they will eat each others value a bit. We have Pierce as a mid-range RB3 while Forsett is a clear RB4 but that can change if Pierce's injury lingers or worsens.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles takes part in warm-ups    Thu Sep 18, 04:09 PM

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) took part in the early portion of practice open to the media Thursday, Sept. 18, and his availability in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins is unknown. He went through warm-ups and was then tended to by a trainer before joining the running back drills. Charles did a drill that involved cutting through cones to catch a pass, and he didn't appear to have any problems.

Footballguys view: Ankle sprain, smankle sprain looks like all that Knile Davis talk was for naught. Let's put this in perspective though as we don't know how Charles will feel tonight or tomorrow, we don't know how Andy Reid will misuse--excuse me, use him and we don't know if the team will be cautious with him and split carries off to Davis. We--ever so carefully--have Charles as a RB2 with some upside. Given the questions around his injury and the poor showing the Chiefs have had this season, a little caution is a good thing.

Bengals | A.J. Green returns to practice    Thu Sep 18, 04:04 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) was back at practice Thursday, Sept. 18, and he hasn't ruled out the possibility of playing in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans. 'If it's feeling good, then I'm going to go,' Green said. 'If it's not, then we'll go from there.' Green lined up out wide and ran at a good pace during practice. He felt the injury all of last week during practice, and he wasn't able to get full extension when he ran in Week 2. Head coach Marvin Lewis expects Green to play against the Titans. If he doesn't play, WR Mohamed Sanu will replace him as the No. 1 receiver.

Footballguys view: We still don't know for sure what will happen--turf toe could keep him out suddenly on Sunday--but this is encouraging. Given that even if he plays the toe could hamper him, we have Green as a borderline WR1, not the sure fire guy we're used to.

Jaguars | Allen Hurns unlikely to play    Thu Sep 18, 03:59 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (ankle) is unlikely to play in Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts. The team will have to rely on WRs Allen Robinson, Mike Brown and Tavarres King if both Hurns and WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) do not play.

Footballguys view: They're down to the bottom of the barrel in Jacksonville which doesn't bode well for Chad Henne's already poor fantasy prospects. Robinson is your best bet and holds a WR5 fantasy outlook. Brown is barely worth a thought and we don't see him as anything more than a very deep Hail Mary Flex--think WR7 with minimal upside. King is even more useless. Hopefully Shorts will play, but even he isn't more than a WR4.

Eagles | Zach Ertz fully participates    Thu Sep 18, 03:36 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Ertz is poised to make it three weeks in a row where he is putting up great fantasy numbers. He's one of our top TE1s this week. You'll want to keep an eye on tomorrow's injury report but it seems like we are out of the woods.

Link to story

Bills | Sammy Watkins fully practices    Thu Sep 18, 03:17 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (ribs) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Watkins is ready to build on his breakout Week 2 performance. San Diego improved their pass defense but not enough--even with few other targets for EJ Manuel to throw to, the Chargers will struggle to slow Watkins down. He should be good for high-end WR1 numbers this week.

Jaguars | Marqise Lee aggravated injury    Thu Sep 18, 02:52 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (hamstring) aggravated his hamstring injury in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17, and he's now been ruled out for Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts. His availability beyond Week 3 is unknown. 'My main focus is getting it right,' said Lee, who is tied for the team lead with eight catches for 73 yards. 'The hamstring can linger. If you try to continue to try to come back, come back, come back when you're feeling 85, 90 (percent), you're still going to have issues.'

Footballguys view: Lee is going to be passed on the depth chart by Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson at this point. You can't hold a position if you cannot stay healthy. Neither Hurns nor Robinson is going to be a safe play beyond as a WR4 or WR5 though as the offense isn't stable enough to count on.

Giants | Thursday practice report for Week 3    Thu Sep 18, 02:51 PM

New York Giants LB Jon Beason (foot, ankle) and LB Devon Kennard (hamstring) both did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 18. P Steve Weatherford (ankle), OT James Brewer (back) and OT Charles Brown (shoulder) were all limited in practice.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles practicing    Thu Sep 18, 02:50 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) is participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: As we said in our email update, Teicher has deep ties in KC and is a solid source--he knows things. We'll watch this carefully for any soreness or issues which might crop up from the practice. This is all good but sit tight--we don't have all the info yet and he may still sit. If he doesn't you have to like him as an RB1.

Cardinals | Kerwynn Williams signed    Thu Sep 18, 02:47 PM

The Arizona Cardinals signed free-agent RB Kerwynn Williams (Chargers) to their practice squad Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Another guy to help stem the loss of Jonathan Dwyer. Williams is buried on the depth chart, so we wouldn't waste a roster spot on him.

Link to story
Kerwynn Williams player page

Cardinals | Jalen Parmele re-signs    Thu Sep 18, 02:45 PM

The Arizona Cardinals re-signed RB Jalen Parmele to their active roster Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: Since they cut Chris Rainey, they had room to bring Parmele back. With the players in front of him, it'd be an uphill climb to have fantasy value, so he isn't worth a roster spot.

Link to story
Jalen Parmele player page

Cardinals | Chris Rainey being released    Thu Sep 18, 02:42 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Rainey is being released from the practice squad Thursday, Sept. 18. Rainey has a history of domestic violence, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Rainey wasn't likely to have a huge impact, but this is interesting from the standpoint that it tells you how the wind is blowing in the NFL. Teams without headaches don't want to add potential ones.

Link to story
Chris Rainey player page

Buccaneers | Gerald McCoy unlikely to play    Thu Sep 18, 02:27 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers DT Gerald McCoy (hand) is unlikely to play in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Sept. 18. McCoy fractured his hand just four days ago, and he said that playing too soon increased the risk of making the injury worse. With McCoy out, DT Da'Quan Bowers will have a chance to make his presence felt.

Footballguys view: This could be good(ish) news for the Falcons offense. Not having McCoy will weaken the run defense, which could give you a shot at a little more than the expected RB3 numbers for Steven Jackson. It shouldn't impact Matt Ryan all that much, given that we expected solid QB1 numbers from him anyway.

Jets | Team wants Eric Decker to practice    Thu Sep 18, 02:24 PM

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan wants WR Eric Decker (hamstring) to test his injured hamstring in the coming days. The team would like to see him participate in practice Saturday, Sept. 20.

Footballguys view: The team needs him badly going up against the Chicago Bears, but they need to know he is healthy too. Watch Friday's practice report to see what Decker is capable of. Mind you, he's not much better than a WR4 and due to playing in a Monday night game, you risk being stuck if you don't find a sub first. We don't like Monday night game-time decisions and this one isn't worth the risk.

Ravens | Joe Flacco ready to go    Thu Sep 18, 02:17 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (illness) said he had a stomach bug Wednesday, Sept. 17. He's fine and ready to go for Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns.

Footballguys view: Flacco is ready to go but he shouldn't be in your lineups unless it's a two-quarterback start league. The offense isn't looking great nor is it looking like it will produce great starting fantasy QB numbers and this matchup isn't wonderful either. Stay away.

Browns | Jordan Cameron practices    Thu Sep 18, 02:13 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Jordan Cameron (shoulder) is participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Footballguys view: If he's ready to go, you can slot him in as one of the best TE1 plays this week. Of course, monitor him until game time, but this looks like a good sign you can finally reap the benefits of having him on your roster.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard-Jeremy Hill tandem impressing    Thu Sep 18, 02:11 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RBs Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill have formed an impressive backfield tandem under offensive coordinator Hue Jackson so far after two games. Bernard is on pace for 328 carries and Hill is on pace for 152. Bernard and Hill combined for 164 yards on 42 carries in the Week 2 win over the Atlanta Falcons. "Both guys are showing they can not only run it, but they also have the ability to catch it and they not only can catch it, but they can make runs after the catch. Their creativity is a key factor in what's been going on. When you have weapons where anytime a guy can get the ball and they can take it to the house, it makes you feel good,' former running backs coach Jim Anderson said.

Footballguys view: Bernard looks poised for very good RB1 numbers this week, while Hill could fill in as a RB3/Flex option against the Tennessee Titans. This could be one of the better producing RBBC's we've seen in a long time.
