Texans | Bill O'Brien to be more 'hands on' in 2017 Thu Jun 15, 03:43 PM
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that Texans head coach Bill O'Brien wants to be more 'hands on' in 2017. "I think one of the changes that needed to be made this year was for me to be more hands-on," O'Brien said Wednesday. "That's really what I love to do -- coach the players and be around the players. I love coaching these players."
|Footballguys view: O'Brien has to be starting to feel the heat given the failures of the offense during his tenure. We think he can improve its output but that will come down to the play of rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson. If he implodes, O'Brien will likely take the fall. Honestly, anything less than superb play over the next two years might not help O'Brien if the Texans don't get more than a cup of coffee in the playoffs. One and done with this defense is unacceptable.|

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes focusing on learning, consistency during minicamp Thu Jun 15, 03:38 PM
Josh Tolentino of the Kansas City Star reports Chiefs rookie QB Patrick Mahomes believes he's shown consistent improvement since organized team activities began a couple weeks ago. "(Today) was a progression and I just want to keep trying to getting better every single day." Mahomes said. "It's all about just putting these good days back to back and not having bad days."
|Footballguys view: Mahomes is destined to be a backup for now. There are rumblings he could replace Alex Smith sooner rather than later...so keep that in mind. The Chiefs have to be happy their quarterback of the future is looking solid in shorts and a t-shirt.|

Vikings | Latavius Murray expected at camp Thu Jun 15, 03:31 PM
Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray (ankle) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.
|Footballguys view: We like Murray's all-purpose skill set but we still don't love this offensive line and really, that's what could really hurt him. Until we see this group is really better, his ADP of 104 overall and 38 running back off the board seem about right.|

Ravens | Maxx Williams may not make camp Thu Jun 15, 03:09 PM
Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams's (knee) status for training camp is in question, according to head coach John Harbaugh.
|Footballguys view: Williams has been a bust with the Ravens, and this injury won't help that. Ben Watson and Crockett Gillmore are competing for the starting tight end job with Dennis Pitta done.|

Browns | David Njoku signs rookie contract Thu Jun 15, 03:01 PM
Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku signed his four-year rookie deal Thursday, June 15. Financial terms were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: We like Njoku but the quarterback situation along with the normal amount of rookie adjustment issues is likely to limit his upside this season.|
Chiefs | Parker Ehinger unlikely for camp Thu Jun 15, 02:45 PM
Kansas City Chiefs OG Parker Ehinger (knee) is not expected to be ready for training camp, according to head coach Andy Reid.Link to story
Chiefs | Travis Kelce should be ready for camp Thu Jun 15, 02:42 PM
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (shoulder) has a 'pretty good chance' of being ready for training camp, according to head coach Andy Reid. Kelce is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and it was originally believed that he would not be healthy enough for training camp.
|Footballguys view: This is a great sign. Kelce will continue to be the main force in the offense and we expect him to be one of the top tight ends in fantasy this season.|

Ravens | Jeremy Maclin will play in the slot Thu Jun 15, 01:58 PM
Baltimore Ravens WR Jeremy Maclin is expected to assume the slot receiver position with WRs Mike Wallace and Breshad Perriman lining up on the outside.
|Footballguys view: We expected this would be the outcome, and we believe it a good fit with Wallace and Perriman pulling enough coverage off him to give him some open space. We're not sold that he will return to his 1,329 yard, 10 touchdown production during the last year he was in Philly, but the 1,000 yard season when he first arrived in Kansas City seems possible.|

Rams | Tavon Austin continues steady progress from wrist surgery Thu Jun 15, 01:48 PM
Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports Rams WR Tavon Austin has been steadily progressing as he recovers from wrist surgery. Austin is excited about his role in the offense under new head coach Sean McVay. "I just want the ball in my hand any type of way," Austin said. "I don't care if you give it to me vertically, if I get jet sweeps or, whatever, screens or options.
|Footballguys view: Austin lost his big play ability in 2016, though the quarterback situation certainly didn't help. An offseason of work with Jared Goff would have been great but there is time in training camp. Even if he gets back towards where he was in 2015, his upside has been rather limited though and it could be some time before he has a large and consistent impact in fantasy.|

Cowboys | Dak Prescott to avoid Sophomore slump? Thu Jun 15, 01:43 PM
Jori Epstein of the Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys WR Cole Beasley doesn't believe second-year QB Dak Prescott will suffer a sophomore slump in 2017. "He's one of the hardest-working guys I've seen at the quarterback position in a long time in a lot of years playing," Beasley said. "His approach and his mindset will control that. ... He's the type of guy who's going to grind no matter and continue to get better no matter how good he gets."
|Footballguys view: His situation is still about as good as you can ask for, with an elite line, a tremendous second year running back and a great receiving corps. We think he may see a bit of a slump, but certainly not a large one, and he's projecting an ADP of 76 overall and the tenth quarterback taken off the board.|

Saints | Mark Ingram wants to be more productive even with Peterson around Thu Jun 15, 01:36 PM
Josh Katzenstein of NOLA.com reports Saints RB Mark Ingram wants to be even better than he was during his career-best performance in 2016. Even with Adrian Peterson in the mix, Ingram believes he can improve. "I know my last three years I've had the best three years of my career. I've only been getting better and better, so I feel like any time that I can touch the ball -- carry it, catch it -- I'll be productive and I'm going to keep improving."
|Footballguys view: How Peterson is in the mix will be what tells the tale and so far we just have no idea how this will play out. Ingram is currently going as the No. 18 running back off the board, and with an overall ADP of 49, it seems like there are some concerns among Fantasy GMs as well.|

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott learns off-field lesson, stays home more Thu Jun 15, 01:29 PM
According to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram, Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is staying at home more now after an off-field incident in March drew scrutiny around the country. Elliott said it's a painful and needed lesson to learn, considering how fleeting an NFL career can be if you continue to make mistakes. "I think it's just life," said Elliott, who was wearing a Stetson hat when he met with the media Wednesday. "You learn from your mistakes, and if you don't, it can be brutal. So it's just part of life."
|Footballguys view: It's a good thing to learn, especially given the outcome hasn't been as bad as it could have been. In today's camera-phone/24-7 news world, privacy for athletes isn't easy to come by and mistakes/bad choices are amplified. Staying home a little more is a good thing, and will keep him from being distracted or a distraction himself. Elliott is going as one of the top two or three players in early drafts, so if you are paying the price for him, you definitely want him focused.|

Eagles | Nelson Agholor shows out Thursday Thu Jun 15, 11:46 AM
Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor has made some great catches in practice Thursday, June 15, according to beat writer Derrick Gunn.
|Footballguys view: While this is great to hear, playing in shorts has never really been Algholor's issue - playing in pads is. The former USC Trojan struggled with focus and the playbook again last season and with the additions of Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith, it's hard to see him producing much.|

Browns | Myles Garrett still out Thursday Thu Jun 15, 11:32 AM
Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett (foot) remains out of practice Thursday, June 15, as his left foot injury is still being evaluated. The team doesn't think it's a Lisfranc injury.
|Footballguys view: A bit of an ignominious start for this year's first overall pick, but a very Cleveland Browns outcome. The club is happy he was able to walk off the field Wednesday after he hurt his foot during a simulated sack of Brock Osweiler. He was down for a moment and needed to be helped up by a trainer and coach Hue Jackson. The Browns are off now until the start of training camp, so we won't know what shape Garrett is in any time soon.|
Lions | Cyrus Kouandjio signed by Lions Thu Jun 15, 09:43 AM
Free-agent OT Cyrus Kouandjio (Bills) signed an undisclosed deal with the Detroit Lions Thursday, June 15.
|Footballguys view: Another potential replacement for Taylor Decker, who is out for between four and six months after shoulder surgery. The team also traded for former second overall pick Greg Robinson. Neither Kouandjio nor Robinson are sure things at tackle, but the Lions are low on alternatives.|
Lions | Greg Robinson sent to Detroit Thu Jun 15, 09:23 AM
Los Angeles Rams OT Greg Robinson was acquired by the Detroit Lions Thursday, June 15, for a sixth-round pick in 2018, according to a source.
|Footballguys view: A former second overall pick, Robinson never produced the way the Rams had hoped he would. His best fit - which some analysts thought was the case from the beginning - might be at guard, but with Taylor Decker coming back from recent shoulder surgery, the Lions may have to throw him in at tackle. We're a bit concerned by that, but somewhat hopeful that a new home will help Robinson finally find his mojo.|

Ravens | BAL to focus on offensive line Thu Jun 15, 02:17 AM
The Baltimore Ravens will focus on upgrading their offensive line following the signing of WR Jeremy Maclin and are not likely to add another wide receiver prior to camp.
|Footballguys view: Maclin still has something left in the tank, so it makes sense to turn back to shoring up the offensive line. Quarterback Joe Flacco was sacked 33 times, which isn't the highest total in the league by any stretch, but absolutely can be improved upon. Keeping Flacco from being pressured will give Maclin a better chance to succeed. We still believe Maclin might end up in the slot with Mike Wallace and Breshad Perriman on the outside.|

Saints | Willie Snead hopeful for deal before season Thu Jun 15, 01:08 AM
New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead is optimistic that he'll have a long-term deal with the club before the new season begins. 'I think the guys upstairs are working on it,' Snead said. 'I'm hopeful, and I just have to keep worrying about myself and staying healthy and doing all the right things. I know it's going to be handled, it's going to take time, but I feel like we'll get it done sooner or later.'
|Footballguys view: We could see a deal getting done since Brandin Cooks is over in New England. Mike Thomas will get more than his fair share of targets, and sure, Ted Ginn Jr. is now in the offense, but Snead clearly represents a big value and important piece for this team. Snead's current ADP marks him as the 81st player taken overall and the No. 34 wide receiver.|

Jaguars | Blake Bortles tired of 'below average' play Thu Jun 15, 12:42 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said that the team is 'sick and tired of being below average' and 'not being successful when we feel as though we have the ability to be a good team.' He added: 'We haven't been. It's time to make a change. It's not going to happen overnight. You have to go do something about it.'
|Footballguys view: We feel you, Blake. We feel you. Bortles is kind of getting to the end of his chances and we are hoping a new coach represents a fresh start and an improvement for the fourth year quarterback. The Jaguars did pick up his fifth year option, but he still needs to get better to secure a long term job. There are enough weapons in the offense to think he can do that, but fantasy GMs are cool on him right now, as he is the 20th quarterback coming off the board in early drafts.|

Browns | Myles Garrett injury update Wed Jun 14, 05:48 PM
Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett (foot) suffered a left foot injury during practice Wednesday, June 14, but head coach Hue Jackson said he thinks Garrett will be fine.
|Footballguys view: The Browns should take it easy on the no1 overall pick as he's a bit banged up. If this is a minor injury, then they should just shut him down for minicamp and get him ready for the start of training camp.|

Jets | Chad Hansen sidelined Wednesday Wed Jun 14, 05:29 PM
New York Jets WR Chad Hansen (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, June 14, because of a sore knee. Head coach Todd Bowles said he does not think the injury is serious and that Hansen should be ready for training camp.
|Footballguys view: Hansen could be a big part of the new-look Jets WR corps. The rookie from Cal has drawn Allen Hurns (Jaguars) comparisons from some in the scouting community. Hansen can get by the defense for deep targets, and he's got the body control to work the boundaries on the field. He will compete with fellow rookie Ardarius Stewart and second-year pro Charone Peake to be the Jets no3 wideout behind Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson.|
Bills | Cardale Jones could be on bubble Wed Jun 14, 05:26 PM
Buffalo Bills QB Cardale Jones could be on the roster bubble because he was fourth in the quarterback rotation during practice Wednesday, June 14, behind QBs Tyrod Taylor, T.J. Yates and Nathan Peterman.
|Footballguys view: Jones has a big arm but little control as a passer. He'll need to show consistent accuracy during training camp and the preseason if he wants to stay with the Bills. Taylor is the clear-cut starter and Peterman is an interesting developmental quarterback we have a lot of deep dynasty love for.|

Jets | ArDarius Stewart undergoes two surgeries Wed Jun 14, 04:13 PM
New York Jets WR ArDarius Stewart (groin, thumb) recently underwent surgeries to repair his groin and thumb injuries. Head coach Todd Bowles said Stewart is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
|Footballguys view: Stewart is going to compete for the no3 wideout spot with the Jets behind Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson. During his college career at Alabama, Stewart stood out because of his physical play. He's a run-after-the-catch specialist and isn't much of a route runner at this point in his career. He'll compete with Charone Peake and fellow rookie Chad Hansen for targets in 2017.|
