Bills | Shaq Lawson denies needing surgery Fri Apr 29, 09:39 AM
Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills DE Shaq Lawson (shoulder) said he doesn't need shoulder surgery, while at least six teams said they believe he will at some point.
|Footballguys view: The Bills are gambling that any surgery is later than sooner, and this is very much like what the whole league is weighing about Myles Jack. Lawson should help a pass rush that was brutally inefficient last year and saw their sack production die off.|
Ravens | BAL tried trading up for Jalen Ramsey Fri Apr 29, 09:38 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey was a target of the Baltimore Ravens, who tried to trade up to No. 4 via the Dallas Cowboys, but the Cowboys rejected the proposal. The Ravens were offering pick No. 6 overall and a fourth-round pick.
|Footballguys view: We thought all along the Cowboys wanted to move back, but it turns out they were locked onto Ezekiel Elliot, the net effect of which was the Ravens missing out on their man. Like sands in an hour glass, these are the days of our (draft) lives.|
Saints | Vernon Hargreaves had Saints' interest Fri Apr 29, 09:35 AM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Vernon Hargreaves III had significant interest from the New Orleans Saints, who picked at No. 12, one slot before he was selected.
|Footballguys view: The Bucs addressed the defense with one of the better corners in the class and this should help solidify a defense that needs to get back on track quickly this year.|
NFL | Myles Jack falls out of first round Fri Apr 29, 09:01 AM
UCLA LB Myles Jack (knee) was not selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: If Laremy Tunsil was the potential steal with a lot of risk in the first round, Jack fills that roll in the second. Someone is going to see the risk/reward even out and take a chance with one of the best linebackers in the NFL Draft.|
Dolphins | Laremy Tunsil to start at guard Fri Apr 29, 08:24 AM
Miami Dolphins OT Laremy Tunsil will likely open the season starting at guard unless an injury occurs to a starting tackle.
|Footballguys view: We assume he will eventually shift to tackle, and as Tunsil (videos aside) was considered one of the top - if not THE top - player in the draft, we assume it won't take too long. We don't know if he can keep himself free of distractions, but if so, the Dolphins got a steal.|
Chargers | San Diego looking to move down? Fri Apr 29, 12:32 AM
San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said the team is in a 'good spot' holding the fourth pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft and may try to trade back.
|Footballguys view: There's not a great bunch of offensive line players right there and a lot of defensive talent. Further the Chargers have a lot of holes to fill, so a few extra picks would be a good plan.|
Cardinals | Robert Nkemdiche expected to produce Fri Apr 29, 12:18 AM
Arizona Cardinals DT Robert Nkemdiche will 'no doubt' be an 'impact player' in the NFL, according to head coach Bruce Arians.
|Footballguys view: While some teams were worried about Nkemdiche's off-field issues but not Bruce Arians. All he did was add another potent part to a defense which is already very good. Nkemdiche may worry some people when he buys his desired pet panther, but he's going to be the one mauling folks on Sundays for the Cardinals.|
Cowboys | Dallas tried to land Paxton Lynch Thu Apr 28, 11:59 PM
Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch was being pursued by the Dallas Cowboys, but Dallas was unable to find a trade partner to move back into the first round of the 2016 NFL draft, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: The Cowboys have said they thought they had a deal done with the Seahawks and might have upped their offer if they'd had a chance. Lynch was not getting out of the first, and John Elway timed his move just right to get his guy.|
Broncos | Paxton Lynch to compete for starting gig Thu Apr 28, 11:48 PM
Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch will compete with QB Mark Sanchez and QB Trevor Siemian for the starting job, according to executive vice president John Elway.
|Footballguys view: Footballguys' own Cecil Lammey is fully wired into the Broncos beat and expects Sanchez to start the season and for Lynch to potentially take over around Week 10 once the brutal first half of the season is done. Lynch is a great fit for Gary Kubiak's offense, so it's really just a matter of getting him up to speed.|

Seahawks | Germain Ifedi ends first round Thu Apr 28, 11:40 PM
The Seattle Seahawks selected Texas A and M OT Germain Ifedi with the 31st overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: The Seahawks finally address the line with a guy who can play tackle or guard. He's got a lot of power and is a big guy but his technique is shaky. It may take time to get him coached up, but the Seahawks will be patient with him.|
Browns | Corey Coleman to bring big plays Thu Apr 28, 11:38 PM
Cleveland Browns WR Corey Coleman has the speed to turn short plays into long plays and will be a dynamic weapon in the offense, according to general manager Sashi Brown.
|Footballguys view: While perhaps not the guy we'd have expected them to pick, he still adds a much-needed element to a very thin receiving corps. The Browns have a long way to go to make us feel good about the passing offense for fantasy purposes, but it's a good start.|
Panthers | Vernon Butler goes to Panthers Thu Apr 28, 11:34 PM
The Carolina Panthers selected Louisiana Tech DT Vernon Butler with the 30th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: Butler is a big, power guy who runs to the ball and who can rush the passer. The Panthers continue to put together an outstanding defense.|
Broncos | Denver unlikely to pursue big-name QB Thu Apr 28, 11:28 PM
San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford are unlikely to be pursued by the Denver Broncos after the team selected QB Paxton Lynch with the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, but Denver could still add a veteran quarterback at some point.
|Footballguys view: Since they got their quarterback, this isn't a shock. They got what they wanted out of Thursday, and part of that was not having to spend money or picks for a retread.|

Cardinals | Cards draft Robert Nkemdiche Thu Apr 28, 11:25 PM
The Arizona Cardinals selected Ole Miss DT Robert Nkemdiche with the 29th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: The Cardinals improve an already awesome defense by adding Nkemdiche, who has some off-field issues but is a tremendous run stuffer. We are not shocked Bruce Arians took a shot with him, like he did with Tyrann Mathieu not long ago.|
49ers | Joshua Garnett selected by SF Thu Apr 28, 11:19 PM
The San Francisco 49ers selected Stanford OG Joshua Garnett with the 28th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28. The Niners traded up with the Kansas City Chiefs for the pick.
|Footballguys view: This was a head-scratcher, as we can't really figure out who is going to jump up and grab a guard. Kelly has picked a long list of Pac12 guys since hitting the NFL, so this isn't a surprise from that standpoint.|
Texans | Will Fuller adds missing element Thu Apr 28, 11:18 PM
Houston Texans WR Will Fuller's speed adds a new element to the offense, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.
|Footballguys view: The Texans are hoping that he can take the top off the defense, which will be easier to do when defenses are occupied with DeAndre Hopkins. That's going to help the team make use of Brock Osweiler's big arm.|
Packers | Kenny Clark goes at No. 27 Thu Apr 28, 11:11 PM
The Green Bay Packers selected UCLA DT Kenny Clark with the 27th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: The Packers need to firm up their middle to stop the run and they did just that. he can also rush the passer, which may help free up Clay Matthews from last year's duties at middle linebacker.|
Broncos | Denver loses third-round pick in trade Thu Apr 28, 11:08 PM
The Denver Broncos acquired the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for the 31st overall pick and a third-round pick, 94th overall. The Broncos selected QB Paxton Lynch with the pick.
|Footballguys view: A reasonable cost to get the quarterback of the future. Elway waited to pull the trade off until he could get the best value and essentially one pick in the third round is great value for Lynch.|
Broncos | Denver selects Paxton Lynch Thu Apr 28, 11:01 PM
The Denver Broncos selected Memphis QB Paxton Lynch with the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28. The Broncos traded up with the Seattle Seahawks for the pick.
|Footballguys view: Footballguys Cecil Lammey and Andrew Garda are in Chicago covering the draft and both of them felt that if Lynch dropped past 20, the Broncos would pull the trigger. Elway waited as long as he could, but when the Chiefs were closing in, he jumped up and grabbed the guy they wanted all along. Lynch is a great fit for Kubiak, as he combines mobility with an ability to read and react to defenses making smart decisions. He may not start this season, but he will look very good in this offense when he gets his shot.|
Steelers | Artie Burns becomes a Steeler Thu Apr 28, 10:56 PM
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Miami CB Artie Burns with the 25th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: The team wanted William Jackson III, but the Bengals stole him, so they made do with Burns. A raw prospect with tremendous speed, teams were very split on him. It may take time but he has the upside to be one of the best corners in the draft.|
Bengals | Cincy selects William Jackson Thu Apr 28, 10:54 PM
The Cincinnati Bengals selected Houston CB William Jackson III with the 24th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: The Bengals needed to add some secondary talent and William Jackson III is a ballhawk who will generate picks. This selection also hosed the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, who desperately needed a corner and while Artie Burns is solid, Jackson would have been a better fit.|
Jets | Darron Lee doesn't need to bulk up Thu Apr 28, 10:51 PM
New York Jets LB Darron Lee's speed is what the team was looking for, and he doesn't need to add any weight to his 232-pound frame, according to head coach Todd Bowles.
|Footballguys view: The Jets like his speed and flexibility. He's likely a replacement for David Harris as he is near the end of his career. The Jets like his versatility and with the way defense is played these days, the size isn't a big deal.|
Vikings | Laquon Treadwell lands with Vikes Thu Apr 28, 10:46 PM
The Minnesota Vikings selected Ole Miss WR Laquon Treadwell with the 23rd overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: A nice addition to a solid group of receivers, and his size will help Teddy Bridgewater take his game to the next level. We'll have to see how the passes get distributed and how often pass plays are called (Norv Turner was run heavy last year) but we love the landing spot and it was a steal for the Vikings.|
Eagles | Caron Wentz draws Brett Favre comparison Thu Apr 28, 10:44 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz has a lot of the same characteristics, including the aggressive style, of retired QB Brett Favre, head coach Doug Pederson said Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: Well, we won't get carried away with the comparisons right now. We will say that he has fallen into a great situation even if he needs to start right away, as Wentz will be behind a great offensive line with a coach who can work him into the right system.|
Brett Favre player page
Redskins | Josh Doctson goes 22nd overall Thu Apr 28, 10:39 PM
The Washington Redskins selected Texas Christian WR Josh Doctson with the 22nd overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: Washington has a nice array of receivers and Doctson will pair nicely with Pierre Garcon in particular. He's got good size and speed but will need to prove he can beat the press. Kirk Cousins has some nice weapons to work with this season.|
Falcons | Keanu Neal fills important role Thu Apr 28, 10:38 PM
Atlanta Falcons FS Keanu Neal's ability to close and cover tight ends are some of the reasons head coach Dan Quinn believes he can handle the unqiue role a strong safety plays in his defensive system.
|Footballguys view: He's got a lot to offer this defense, and the fact that he can both hit hard to set the tone on defense as well as cover is a big help in this division.|
Texans | Houston trades up one spot Thu Apr 28, 10:34 PM
The Houston Texans acquired the 21st overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft from the Washington Redskins in exchange for the 22nd pick in the 2016 NFL draft and a 2017 sixth-round pick. The Texans selected WR Will Fuller with the pick.
|Footballguys view: Clearly the Texans were worried about someone else jumping up for Fuller. The Texans have a nice group of receivers now and it should help Brock Osweiler in his first full season as a starter.|
Bills | Shoulder surgery looms for Shaq Lawson Thu Apr 28, 10:25 PM
Buffalo Bills DE Shaq Lawson (shoulder) will need shoulder surgery at some point that will sideline him between four and six months, but it can probably wait until after next season, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: We don't like the sound "probably" but if he can hold up this year, Lawson should be a big help for a defense which struggled to get at the quarterback last season.|
Texans | Will Fuller taken by Texans Thu Apr 28, 10:25 PM
The Houston Texans selected Notre Dame WR Will Fuller with the 21st overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28. The Texans traded up with the Washington Redskins for this pick.
|Footballguys view: Fuller can take a top off the defense and gives Brock Osweiler another weapon to make teams pay when they focus on DeAndre Hopkins. Fuller could be a solid WR3 this year if he can get up to speed quickly.|
Jets | New York selects Darron Lee Thu Apr 28, 10:25 PM
The New York Jets selected Ohio State LB Darron Lee with the 20th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: A quick, sideline-to-sideline linebacker who can play three downs. The Jets don't want him to add muscle, so we'll have to see how Todd Bowles makes up for a lack of size.|
Bills | Buffalo was hoping to trade back Thu Apr 28, 10:18 PM
Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills LB Shaq Lawson was selected with the 19th pick in the 2016 NFL draft after the team was unable to find a trade partner to move back in the draft, according to sources.
|Footballguys view: There were several teams talking about moving up, but it seems like they weren't willing to pay the price. The Bills got a good player though, so it works out.|
Bills | Shaq Lawson taken by Buffalo Thu Apr 28, 10:15 PM
The Buffalo Bills selected Clemson DE Shaq Lawson with the 19th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: Of course Rex Ryan got a Clemson guy. Of course he did. As Mike Mayock said on NFLN, "He can play inside or outside, and up or down. He has an explosive lower body and violent hands, and is quick off the edge."|
Bears | Leonard Floyd ready to learn Thu Apr 28, 10:12 PM
Chicago Bears LB Leonard Floyd said he is going to come in 'quiet as a rookie' and learn from his veteran teammates.
|Footballguys view: Smart guy who falls into a great situation in a defense which needs a lot of help. John Fox will do some great things with him.|
Colts | Indy takes Ryan Kelly 18th overall Thu Apr 28, 10:11 PM
The Indianapolis Colts selected Alabama C Ryan Kelly with the 18th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: A smart move for a team whose quarterback got killed last season. Kelly was not flagged for a holding penalty last year and was a very stable piece of the Bama offensive line.|
Falcons | Keanu Neal to Falcons at No. 17 Thu Apr 28, 10:07 PM
The Atlanta Falcons selected Florida FS Keanu Neal with the 17th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: The Jets were trying to move up, but Atlanta got their guy. Expected to be a second round pick, Neal is a big hitter who will bring some physicality to the defense.|
Titans | Pass blocking an issue for Jack Conklin? Thu Apr 28, 10:07 PM
Tennessee Titans OT Jack Conklin said he could need a little work on his pass protection.
|Footballguys view: Well, he'd better get on that. With that said, Conklin will be an asset when Marcus Mariota scrambles and runs.|
Lions | Detroit goes with Taylor Decker Thu Apr 28, 10:01 PM
The Detroit Lions selected Ohio State OT Taylor Decker with the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.

Falcons | Atlanta trying to move up in draft Thu Apr 28, 09:58 PM
Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff has been calling teams to try to move up in the 2016 NFL draft. The Falcons currently own the 17th pick in the first round.
|Footballguys view: The Falcons wanted Keanu Neal and were worried the Jets would leapfrog them, which was what New York was trying to do.|
Browns | Corey Coleman drafted by Browns Thu Apr 28, 09:57 PM
The Cleveland Browns selected Baylor WR Corey Coleman with the 15th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: Most would have gone with Laquon Treadwell which could make this the most Browns pick ever, as they got the position they needed but the wrong guy. On the plus side, he's a dangerous vertical talent with the ability to get over the top of defenders who fail to recognize his speed off the line of scrimmage. on the downside, he has focus drops and is undersized.|
Raiders | Oakland takes Karl Joseph at No. 14 Thu Apr 28, 09:51 PM
The Oakland Raiders selected West Virginia SS Karl Joseph with the 14th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft on Thursday, April 28.
|Footballguys view: The Raiders have, very stealthy-like, put together a solid secondary. Joseph is a great addition and has proven he can make plays in man coverage or play disciplined enough to be trusted on the back.|
Rams | Jared Goff picked No. 1 overall by Rams Thu Apr 28, 09:48 PM
For the second time in seven years, the Los Angeles Rams used the first overall pick in the NFL draft on a quarterback. They kicked off Thursday's festivities by selecting California's Jared Goff.
|Footballguys view: As expected, Goff is the guy. Jeff Fisher as the coach worries us as does the offensive line. The team has to lean on Gurley, which means Goff's rookie fantasy value is low.|
Titans | Jack Conklin the right fit for Tennessee Thu Apr 28, 09:45 PM
