Eagles | Nick Foles unlikely for Philly backup spot    Thu Feb 14, 07:52 PM

Free-agent QB Nick Foles (Eagles) is not expected to return to the Philadelphia Eagles as the backup to Carson Wentz.

Giants | Nick Foles interested in Giants?    Thu Feb 14, 07:46 PM

Free-agent QB Nick Foles (Eagles) is expected to 'keep tabs on' the New York Giants this offseason, according to NJ.com's Zack Rosenblatt.

Footballguys view: This Foles situation is one of the biggest out there this offseason in the NFL. The Eagles may franchise tag him to control his destination and get compensation for the veteran quarterback. A source with knowledge of Foles' thinking said the former Super Bowl MVP would 'probably' be interested in starting for the Giants if they were to release QB Eli Manning.

Colts | High-profile players not of interest to Colts?    Thu Feb 14, 06:43 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown and Steelers impending free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell are not expected to be intensely pursued by the Indianapolis Colts this offseason. The Colts will have the most salary cap space in the league this offseason and will do their due diligence, but Brown's off-field drama and Bell's asking price may be too much for the Colts.

Footballguys view: The Bell non-interest seems a bit....odd. The Colts have over $100 million in cap space and Bell could put them over the top. Having Bell take handoffs and catch passes from Andrew Luck is like a dream come true. We'll see if they actually want to spend that money on a back who held out of the 2018 season entirely.

Cowboys | Sean Lee on his way out?    Thu Feb 14, 04:24 PM

Dallas Cowboys LB Sean Lee is considered a strong candidate to be cut this offseason, in the opinion of NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal.

Footballguys view: Lee's extensive injury history, $10 million cap hit and the presence of fellow LBs Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith don't bode well for a possible return.

Broncos | Case Keenum available for fifth-rounder?    Thu Feb 14, 01:36 PM

Denver Broncos QB Case Keenum could likely be obtained in a trade for a fifth-round draft pick, ESPN's Chris Mortensen said Thursday, Feb. 14. Keenum could be one of the top backups in the league, according to Motensen, and the Tennessee Titans would be an ideal landing spot.

Footballguys view: That should be enough to get the Broncos to trade away their former starter. Keenum failed as a starter with the Broncos but he could be a fine backup for some team in need of a veteran at that position.

Texans | Keke Coutee feeling 100 percent    Thu Feb 14, 12:06 PM

Houston Texans WR Keke Coutee (hamstring) said Thursday, Feb. 14, he is almost fully recovered from the chronic hamstring injuries which limited him miss 10 of the Texans' 17 regular-season/playoff games as a rookie this past season.

Footballguys view: Good news for Coutee as the Texans could use his speed as a no.3 WR behind DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller. 'I'm feeling great,' Coutee said. 'I'm feeling really good. I'm feeling like myself. The hamstring is good. I'm still resting a little bit. I'm going to start back training soon, but it's 100 percent.'

Jaguars | Nick Foles has mutual JAX interest    Thu Feb 14, 10:57 AM

Free-agent QB Nick Foles (Eagles) has mutual interest in the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars need a starting quarterback to replace Blake Bortles. Foles could be that guy as they want to win with defense and a strong rushing attack. We'll see if the Eagles let Foles go without getting compensation for him. Foles is set to be a free agent but the Eagles could franchise tag him in an effort to get something for him and control his destination. The deadline to franchise tag a player is March 5th. Stay tuned.

49ers | Pierre Garcon to be let go    Thu Feb 14, 09:01 AM

San Francisco 49ers WR Pierre Garcon will not have his option exercised for 2019.

Footballguys view: Garcon has recently been set back by injuries and is no longer the player he used to be. The 49ers move forward with younger players at the position while Garcon looks for a new landing spot. Perhaps a team with a need for veteran depth (Denver?) takes a look at Garcon.

Buccaneers | Justin Watson, Bobo Wilson to see more work?    Thu Feb 14, 12:37 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WRs Justin Watson and Bobo Wilson could move up to the third and fourth receiver spots this offseason if the team is unable to retain impending unrestricted free agent WR Adam Humphries.

Footballguys view: Watson was a fifth-round pick for the Buccaneers in the 2018 NFL draft out of Pennsylvania. He's a taller, stronger receiver measuring in at 6'3" 225 pounds and Watson can track the ball well across the field. Wilson has been with the Bucs since they signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Florida State in 2017. He's more of a shifty, quicker receiver who can work on underneath routes.

Buccaneers | Adam Humphries might not return to Bucs    Thu Feb 14, 12:29 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Adam Humphries, an impending free agent, might command $8 million per season in his new deal.

Footballguys view: The team looked to sign him to a long-term deal last year, but his asking price was rumored to be $8 million per year. The team decided to shelve the extension talks, but now it appears that will be the fair market value and he could be headed for another team in the offseason.

Broncos | Denver checked in on Nick Foles    Wed Feb 13, 10:15 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles was a player that the Denver Broncos checked in on before they agreed to acquire Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco.

Footballguys view: The Broncos felt it would take too much to acquire Foles. Not only in compensation to the Eagles, but also in terms of contract dollars and length. Foles is set to be a free agent but the Eagles could still franchise tag him in an effort to control his landing spot.

Jets | NYJ unlikely to consider Demaryius Thomas    Wed Feb 13, 08:32 PM

Free-agent WR Demaryius Thomas (Texans) likely will not receive interest from the New York Jets this offseason even though he has played for head coach Adam Gase before, in the opinion of the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta.

Footballguys view: Gase did great things with Thomas (and Peyton Manning) during their time in Denver. The Jets could use some veteran presence in their WR corps but it sounds like Thomas won't be an option. Thomas may not get much interest given his age and the fact he's coming off an Achilles' injury.

Chargers | Corey Liuget's option to be declined    Wed Feb 13, 07:36 PM

Los Angeles Chargers DT Corey Liuget will be a free agent this offseason because the team will not exercise his option for 2019. The team is open to re-signing him during free agency.

Footballguys view: An easy decision for the Chargers since Liuget had a $9.5 million cap number and is not the same player he used to be. Liuget underwent successful surgery on his torn quad back in November and should be ready for training camp with whatever team wants to sign him.

NFL | Jaylon Ferguson won't be at NFL Combine    Wed Feb 13, 06:06 PM

Louisiana Tech DE Jaylon Ferguson's invitation to the 2019 NFL Combine has been rescinded. Ferguson's background check disclosed an off-field issue that made him ineligible to participate under the NFL's policy, according to sources. Ferguson was charged with simple battery his freshman year.

Footballguys view: Ferguson was the NCAA's sack leader in 2018 and is considered a first- or second-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He performed well at the Senior Bowl earlier this year and should get plenty of interest during his pro day in March.

Steelers | Antonio Brown's asking price too high?    Wed Feb 13, 04:29 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is expected to cost a first-round pick, but two high-ranking NFL executives stated they would only give up a day-two draft pick or even a fourth-round pick.

Footballguys view: Last year the Raiders were able to deal WR Amari Cooper to the Cowboys for a first-round pick. Teams may balk at that price for Brown, but all it takes is one franchise that will do the deal. The Steelers have a mess with their salary cap situation even if they trade Brown away. That likely keeps the price tag high for the disgruntled veteran receiver.

Ravens | Baltimore to receive fourth-round pick from Denver    Wed Feb 13, 03:14 PM

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco was traded by the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for the 11th pick in the fourth round (106 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Ravens are moving forward with Lamar Jackson as their starting quarterback, and that was incredibly evident after Flacco was hurt and they changed the structure of the offense to accommodate Jackson.

Broncos | Denver trading fourth-round pick    Wed Feb 13, 03:12 PM

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco will be acquired from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for the 11th pick in the fourth round (106 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Broncos needed an upgrade at the quarterback position and this is a great price to make the move. They picked up an extra fourth-round pick last year when they moved WR Demaryius Thomas to the Texans.

Broncos | Case Keenum could be traded    Wed Feb 13, 02:58 PM

Denver Broncos QB Case Keenum is on the trading block in light of QB Joe Flacco being acquired.

Footballguys view: Good luck with that. We can't imagine the market being white hot for the veteran quarterback (although keep an eye out for Arizona). If a trade cannot be executed, Keenum will either take a big pay cut or just be released.

Ravens | Joe Flacco headed to Denver    Wed Feb 13, 11:20 AM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco is part of a trade agreed upon with the Denver Broncos Wednesday, Feb. 13. The package going to Baltimore is unknown, and the deal can't become official until March 13.

Footballguys view: The Ravens didn't want to just release Flacco and get nothing for him. They wanted to facilitate a trade and the Broncos were willing partners. Flacco was beat up last year and only made it through nine games with a hip injury. He was healthy enough to return for the playoffs, but the team decided to stick with their QB of the future Lamar Jackson.

Broncos | Joe Flacco headed to Broncos    Wed Feb 13, 11:05 AM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco is part of an agreement in principle to be traded to the Denver Broncos Wednesday, Feb. 13. The trade can't become official until March 13.

Footballguys view: Case Keenum was not an effective starter for the Broncos in 2018. They make the move to rectify that situation. Flacco may not be much of an upgrade over Keenum but the team wanted to go in a different direction. New offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello comes from the Shanahan coaching tree, and Flacco worked well in that system (posting career-best numbers) back in 2014.

Jets | Isaiah Crowell likely to be cut    Wed Feb 13, 11:05 AM

Updating previous reports, New York Jets RB Isaiah Crowell is expected to be released before a $2 million roster bonus kicks in March 15.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Jets are going to have a different backfield in 2019. Crowell should be gone and the team should let Bilal Powell walk in free agency. That makes Eli McGuire their top back for now...but we expect them to add a lead back in free agency or the draft.

Steelers | Antonio Brown trade unlikely to four teams?    Wed Feb 13, 12:54 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown will not get traded to any of the team's rivals in the AFC North (Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns) or the New England Patriots, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.

Footballguys view: The Steelers want to control where he goes. That means it's not within the division and not to the Super Bowl champion Patriots. Any team interested in acquiring Brown will likely have to surrender a first- or second-round pick.

Browns | Kareem Hunt facing long suspension?    Tue Feb 12, 06:18 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt could be suspended up to 10 or 12 games as a result of the domestiv violence incident he was involved in last year, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Footballguys view: With video evidence of Hunt's domestic violence incident, the chances of him getting a large suspension are great. The Browns signed him to a one-year deal earlier this week and they'll use Nick Chubb as their lead back while Hunt is serving his suspension.

Steelers | JuJu Smith-Schuster excels sans Antonio Brown    Tue Feb 12, 05:59 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster has fared exceptionally well in three games without WR Antonio Brown. In those three contests he has averaged nine targets, 6.6 catches, 85 yards and one touchdown.

Footballguys view: Brown has asked for a trade and his time with the Steelers appears to be near an end. When he's traded away, the Steelers won't miss a beat with Smith-Schuster as their lead wide receiver. We expect the Steelers to be in the market for a wide receiver this offseason, either through the draft or free agency.

Texans | Demaryius Thomas officially cut    Tue Feb 12, 05:41 PM

Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles') was officially released Tuesday, Feb. 12, with a failed physical designation.

NFL | Jeffery Simmons to have surgery    Tue Feb 12, 04:39 PM

Mississippi State DT Jeffery Simmons (knee) will undergo surgery on his torn left anterior cruciate ligament early next week.

Cardinals | Arizona sticking with Josh Rosen    Tue Feb 12, 03:30 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen 'is our guy,' in the words of new head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals may say that now, but that doesn't mean they won't select QB Kyler Murray no.1 overall in the 2019 NFL draft. Rosen was a disappointment during his rookie year and there was some buzz that this new staff would want to go in a different direction. Kingsbury will bring the 'Air Raid' system to the Cardinals and quite frankly, Rosen is an odd fit. Stay tuned.

Redskins | Teammate doubts Alex Smith will play    Tue Feb 12, 03:14 PM

Washington Redskins QB Alex Smith (leg) is not expected to play this season, in the opinion of RB Chris Thompson. 'We know and understand that it's probably not going to happen that we have him this year,' Thompson admitted. The Redskins have discussed a new deal with QB Josh Johnson, but QB Colt McCoy is slated to start the year if Smith can't go.

Footballguys view: Smith's football future is certainly up in the air. Not only will he potentially miss the 2019 season, there is a chance that Smith may never be able to play football again. We hope that is not the case and will continue to monitor his recovery closely. Smith is in the midst of a an extensive recovery from a severe compound leg fracture late in the season.
