Former NFL DL Warren Sapp's employment with the NFL Network is likely over, according to two league sources.   Saints | Jeremy Shockey accused of snitching     Thu Mar 22, 08:42 AM

Free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers) is the whistle-blower who alerted the league to the New Orleans Saints' bounty program, according to NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp. Sapp said he did not receive his information from anyone at the league, but from a trusted source close to the situation. Shockey adamantly denied the charge.

Footballguys view: If the league doesn't pursue action against Sapp, they could be seen as hypocritical. Shockey has since tweeted a text message from Payton clearing him.

Giants | Not interested in Jeremy Shockey    Fri Mar 16, 01:57 PM

Free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers) reportedly would like to return to the New York Giants, which is the team he started his NFL career with. The Giants, however, are not interested. A source with knowledge of the situation noted that there isn't anything going on with the Giants and a potential reunion of the two. Shockey, 31, has seen his production fade and reportedly was considering retirement earlier this year.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Shockey got in a shouting match with GM Jerry Reese and demanded a trade when he was last with the Giants. He's burned his bridges in NYC.

Panthers | Tight ends could play major role in offense    Mon Aug 1, 12:25 AM

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen may not start regularly because the team also has TEs Jeremy Shockey and Ben Hartsock, but he figures to be a centerpiece in the team's offensive game plan. Panthers head coach Ron Rivera wants to use the team's tight ends like the San Diego Chargers use TE Antonio Gates, and offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski is in charge of making that happen this year.

Footballguys view: Chudzinski was the offensive coordinator for the Derek Anderson to Kellen Winslow season of 2007, so he knows how to get the most out of his tight ends in the passing game.

Panthers | TE Shockey remembering the offense    Tue Jun 14, 03:48 PM

Joseph Person, from the Charlotte Observer, reports Panthers TE Jeremy Shockey is slowly remembering the offense he played in under OC Rob Chudzinski during their time together at the University of Miami. "It's similar somewhat from what I remember. But that was 10 years ago and many collisions ago," Shockey said. "Some of the terminology's coming back. I can remember a little bit of it. But again, there were some new things and new wrinkles in there."

Footballguys view: The Panthers are likely to have rookie Cam Newton starting as their QB at some point during the season. Having a sure handed veteran TE as a security blanket could help Newton stand up to the defensive pressure. If Shockey can stay healthy he could be more productive than some think.

Panthers | Jeremy Shockey says OC a factor in signing    Mon May 30, 01:21 PM

Carolina Panthers TE Jeremy Shockey said one of the factors in him signing with the Panthers was that he has a close relationship with offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. Chudzinski was Shockey's tight ends coach during his college career.

Footballguys view: With rookie QB Cam Newton likely starting for this team it would help tremendously to have a consistent TE target like Shockey for him to throw to. We expect Shockey to earn the trust of Newton quickly and could be his favorite relief valve receiver.
