Patriots | Dion Lewis similar to former NE RB Mon Sep 28, 04:27 PM
New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis reminds running backs coach Ivan Fears of former Patriots RB Kevin Faulk. 'He's very similar to Kevin. The only limitation that these guys have had is the size factor,' Fears said. 'Everybody just knocked them because of it. But believe me, they've proven a lot of people wrong.' Fears did also say that Lewis still has a lot of work to do.
Footballguys view: Faulk was a fantastic receiver out of the backfield, but we feel that Lewis is a better runner. Going forward, Lewis should be the team's lead back. In blowouts, the Patriots could turn to LeGarrette Blount just like they did in Week 3 against the Jaguars. The Patriots have a bye this week. |

Free-agent RB Kevin Faulk (Patriots) will announce his retirement Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Footballguys view: Faulk carved out a nice role with the Patriots for over 10 years. He played his entire 13 year career with the Patriots and should be honored one day in the team's Ring of Fame. Faulk is number one in New England in the following categories: all-purpose yardage, catches by a RB, and kick return yards. |

Patriots | Kevin Faulk reunion seems unlikely right now Sat Jun 23, 08:27 PM
Free-agent RB Kevin Faulk (Patriots) has said he will either return to the New England Patriots or retire. At this point, the team has a bevy of runners heading into training camp, including undrafted rookie RB Brandon Bolden, who could make some noise. A reunion with Faulk seems unlikely at this point.
Footballguys view: Faulk may have to wait for injuries to hit the RB position in training camp before he gets a job offer. At this point in his career he may also choose to retire from the game. |

I'm still praying, hoping,' Faulk said. 'If it doesn't happen, hey, I had a long run. God has blessed me with a long career as a running back, as a football player in general. But if it doesn't happen, hey, I'm moving on.'

New England Patriots RB Kevin Faulk said he was crushed when he found out he was deactivated for Super Bowl XLVI. His first reaction was to go back into his room and shed a few tears. 'That morning when I got the word that I wasn't going to dress - wow,' Faulk said. '(I) cried a little bit because 75 percent of me knew that this could possibly be my last game playing - not playing just dressing. If I dressed there could possibly be that much of a chance that I could play, so that really crushed me a whole lot.' Faulk is not yet ready to make a decision on his playing future.

Patriots | RB Faulk has a spot on the team if he wants it Sun May 22, 03:29 PM
Jeff Howe, from NESN.com, believes veteran free agent RB Kevin Faulk has a spot on the Patriots if he wants it. Faulk is rehabbing from a knee injury suffered last year and preparing as if he's coming back. The Patriots backfield is quite crowded as they selected RB Shane Vereen of Cal and Stevan Ridley of LSU in the 2011 NFL Draft to go with veterans BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead.
Footballguys view: Faulk was basically replaced in the lineup by Danny Woodhead last year and he may struggle to find a spot on the roster. He's a savvy veteran, a team leader, and a favorite of the coaching staff. His versatility and experience may keep him around in New England. |

Patriots | Rushing statistics misleading Mon Jul 26, 03:58 PM
The New England Patriots rushed for 1,921 yards and 19 touchdowns last year, while averaging 4.1 yards per carry as a team, reports Tom E. Curran, of Comcast SportsNet. However, while the numbers look good on paper, the running attack for the patriots is explosive, young or healthy. The quartet of Laurence Maroney, Kevin Faulk, Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris provide more yawns than fear entering the year and the Patriots didn't address the position during the offseason.
Footballguys view: The Patriots will be able to use any combination of runners (let's throw BenJarvus Green-Ellis on the list too) to get a productive running game in 2010. Maroney has a shot to be the feature back, but has failed to live up to expectations. Patriots | RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis one to watch Sun May 16, 10:46 PM
Mike Reiss, from ESPNBoston.com, reports the Patriots did not draft a running back and Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk all enter the final year of their contracts. That makes third-year man BenJarvus Green-Ellis a player to pay extra-close attention to in training camp.
Footballguys view: Green-Ellis has proven that he can be an effective runner in the NFL on limited opportunities. He's a compact back that can grind out the tough yards, but has enough speed to break off a big run from time to time. The Patriots love to use a RBBC, but Green-Ellis could be the lead back in that committee as soon as next season. |
