Titans | Young extends personal winning streak    Sun Nov 15, 04:40 PM

The Associated Press reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young went 17-for-25 for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 10. He has won his last seven starts.

Our view: Vince Young has been efficient and accurate since joining the lineup. He's been helped tremendously by the schedule and Chris Johnson's versatility and explosiveness.

Titans | Eased Young back into starting role    Mon Nov 2, 10:30 AM

The Associated Press reports the Tennessee Titans' offensive scheme in Week 8 helped ease QB Vince Young back into a starting role with lots of short throws and runs to work off any rust. As a result, Young completed 83.3 percent of his passes in the game.

Titans | Young solid Week 8    Sun Nov 1, 07:22 PM

The Associated Press reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young went 15-for-18 for 125 yards and one touchdown in Week 8. It was his first start since the opening game of the 2008 season.

Our view: The Titans relied heavily on Chris Johnson and the run game against Jacksonville, limiting Young in his first game back. Young didn't take many chances downfield, but he was accurate and worked within the offense. The Titans will still feature the running game against the Niners next week, but they could open up the passing game if Young continues to play within the offense.

Titans | Change to Young not a short term thing    Fri Oct 30, 10:55 AM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said the change to QB Vince Young as the starting quarterback is not a short-term situation. 'As far as the future is concerned, I'm not one of those coaches who's going to have musical chairs at the quarterback position,' Fisher said.

Titans | Collins not happy about switch but ready to support Young    Fri Oct 30, 10:55 AM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans QB Kerry Collins said he is not happy about his demotion but is ready to support QB Vince Young as the team's new starting quarterback. 'I am not happy about it, don't get me wrong by any stretch of the imagination. But I have nothing to be ashamed about. I practiced hard, worked as hard as I could. It wasn't because I didn't try and wasn't putting everything I had into it. But now I'll support Vince, and I fully expect everybody in this offense to support Vince,' Collins said.

Our view: Collins isn't as responsible for the Titans failings as it seems. The wide receivers have let him down, and the defense has collapsed, but it still makes sense for the team to look at Vince Young to know with clarity whether he is worth bringing back next year.

Titans | Young to start in Week 8    Thu Oct 29, 12:04 PM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young will start in Week 8, according to sources.

Our view: The Vince Young era begins again! The Titans want to see if there's any reason to keep Young around past this season, so they're getting him on the field for valuable experience. Tennessee should continue to pound it on the ground with Chris Johnson, and Young's passing attempts may be limited. Don't rush to put him in your starting lineup, but dynasty owners who have been holding onto Young may have a ray of hope here.

Titans | Owner wants V. Young to start    Tue Oct 27, 08:59 AM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams wants QB Vince Young to be the team's starting quarterback in Week 8. Following the team's 59-0 loss to the New England Patriots Oct. 18, Adams said he'd made head coach Jeff Fisher aware of his desire to see Young play. Fisher was non-committal when asked if QB Kerry Collins or Young would start in Week 8, citing competitive reasons. 'We've had a week to do some different things and considering the circumstances we're in right now with the record, there's things that you need to do differently,' Fisher said. 'Let's just say I am not going to be as specific and open-ended from a competitive standpoint.'

Our view: Kerry Collins just isn't getting it done, and the team is unlikely to make a playoff run this year - so why not see what Young can do.

Titans | Fisher vague about QB situation    Mon Oct 26, 07:04 PM

Jim Wyatt, of the Nashville Tennessean, reports that Titans head coach Jeff Fisher was vague about the identity of the team's starting QB in week 8.

Our view: Fisher would not commit to Collins the way he has earlier in the season, although he didn't indicate that Vince Young was going to start either, although he hinted that Young may get in the game in special packages. Fisher said lineup changes would be "minor", so expect Collins to get the start vs Jacksonville.

Titans | Collins, V. Young to receive reps during Bye week    Mon Oct 19, 07:59 PM

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Tennessee Titans QB Kerry Collins and QB Vince Young will both receive reps during the team's Week 7 bye. Mortensen reports it wouldn't be a shock if Collins remains the starting quarterback for at least a few more games.

Our view: The signs continue to mount that the Titans just don't trust Vince Young, but things are bad enough that soon they'll have to give him a chance just for the sake of change if the team doesn't get it turned around coming out of the bye.

Titans | Owner wants Young to start    Mon Oct 19, 07:03 PM

Jim Wyatt, of the Nashville Tennessean, reports that Titans owner Bud Adams wants to play Vince Young at QB. "I have been wanting him to play Vince Young more because Collins has been having his problems out there,'' Adams said. "I just think we need to find out how well (Young) can do. If you don't play the guy and lose all your games, it is hard for you to see what he can do if he is not playing. Vince has won a lot of games for us. But Jeff is the one making those decisions; they are playing for him.''

Our view: Young could be an ok desperation pickup at QB because of his running ability, but if (when) he is installed at QB, it will kill any value left in the Titans receivers.

Titans | Fisher will wait to name a starting quarterback     Mon Oct 19, 11:59 AM

Jim Wyatt and David Climer, of The Tennessean, report Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher would not discuss his plans at quarterback following the team's Week 6 loss. QB Kerry Collins was benched during the game in favor of QB Vince Young. Collins, however, still feels he gives the team a chance to win games. 'I am not going to assume anything at this point,' Collins said. 'I still feel like I am the quarterback of this team and this is my team. I give us a chance to win when I go out there.'

Our view: The Titans owe Vince Young a lot of money next year, and want to see if he can develop into the starting quarterback they hoped he would a couple of years ago. If Collins is replaced by Young he could find his way back into the starting lineup if Young fails to impress.

Titans | Collins struggles again Week 5    Mon Oct 12, 12:50 AM

The Associated Press reports Tennessee Titans QB Kerry Collins was 19-for-32 for 164 yards with an interception Week 5. Collins was replaced in the fourth quarter by QB Vince Young, who failed to complete a pass in three attempts.

Our view: Vince Young may get into the starting lineup if the Titans feel the season is lost. They have a lot of money invested in him, and would like to see if he can get his career back on track.

Titans | Collins to remain starting quarterback    Mon Oct 5, 09:30 AM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said he did not consider switching to QB Vince Young in Week 4 and maintained that QB Kerry Collins will remain the team's starting quarterback.

Our view: Vince Young isn't the answer for the Titans, and Jeff Fisher knows that. Collins is reverting back to some of his old bad habits, like throwing off his back foot when pressured - but he's being let down by his receivers because of dropped passes.

Titans | Fisher never considered benching K. Collins    Mon Oct 5, 01:28 AM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said he never considered bringing QB Vince Young into the team's Week 4 game, even though QB Kerry Collins struggled during the team's 37-17 loss. Fisher said, "Kerry's our starter. Kerry gives us our best chance to win." Fisher added that benching Collins is not an option for the team's Week 5 game.

Our view: Collins still gives Tennessee the best chance to win right now. You can't put the loss to the Jags on him because he doesn't play defensive back.

The Tennessee Titans have declared TE Bo Scaife, P Craig Hentrich, DL Dave Ball, WR Lavelle Hawkins, DL Sen'Derrick Marks, LB Stanford Keglar, OT Troy Kropog, QB Vince Young inactive for Week 3.

Titans | Young looking to run more    Fri Sep 4, 11:10 AM

Jim Wyatt, from the Tennessean, reports Vince Young said he's focusing on his running more. At least he's focused on ways to help himself. His time on the run will be limited now. If he should get thrown into action for some reason, he at least looks more eager to run, and said he's better prepared to do so. There's a reason he didn't run as much in the past, he said. "That's what I have been working on this offseason --- my legs, my lower body and my abs,'' Young sad. "The last couple of years it has always been a hamstring or a quad or something like that that's kept me away from using my legs. So tonight I got a chance to showcase my legs as well as throwing the ball downfield."

Our view: Vince Young is getting back to basics here, and it's working out on the field. He has been hesitant to pull the ball down and run since racking up 552 rushing yards during his rookie season. It's a good sign for Young if he's going back to what works best, but he's not going to get much of a chance to show off his skill during the regular season unless Kerry Collins is injured.

Titans | Quarterbacks do well during Saturday preseason game    Sat Aug 29, 10:56 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Kerry Collins was effective Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Cleveland Browns. He hit 11-of-14 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown without throwing any interceptions. Backup QB Vince Young also played well, hitting 17-of-24 passes for 174 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Young also chipped in 20 yards rushing on two attempts, and also lost a fumble during the game.

Our view: Young's INT was returned for a TD by Alex Hall. He has been very inconsistent during the preseason, alternatively flashing his immense talent and showing why the Titans can't trust him in regular season action. He successfully fended off Patrick Ramsey, but we're not really sure that his career is truly back on track.

Titans | Young inconsistent in practice and games    Thu Aug 27, 10:16 AM

The Tennessean.com reports that every player deals with ups and downs in training camp, and Vince Young has been on the roller coaster from game to game, from practice to practice. He was rusty against the Bills, looked great against the Buccaneers, then appeared out of sync again last week against the Cowboys. His practices have been pretty much the same way.

Our view: Forrest Gump would say that watching Vince Young play was like a box of chocolates, because you'll never know what you're going to get. The Titans must feel this way as well about their former QB of the future. Until Young gets more consistent, he won't be a serious threat to Kerry Collins' job in what could be his final season with the Titans.

Titans | Young struggles Friday    Sat Aug 22, 01:49 AM

The Associated Press reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young was 3-for-9 for 33 yards with an interception during the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 21.

Our view: Young wasn't comfortable even though he was back in his home state of Texas. He's not in any danger of losing the backup job to Patrick Ramsey, but he's not exactly putting pressure on Kerry Collins, either.

Titans | Team owner: 'Young not going anywhere'    Tue Aug 18, 07:40 PM

Tom Weir, of USA Today, reports that Titans owner Bud Adams said that he was proud of QB Vince Young after his performance in the preseason win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and that he is "not going anywhere" this year. Weir also reports that head coach Jeff Fisher said Young might start a preseason game, but not the upcoming game vs. Dallas.

Our view: We'll see if Adams changes his tune when Young's 14 million dollar cap number in 2010 comes due next year.

Titans | Young solid in second preseason game    Sun Aug 16, 01:01 AM

Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young hit 9 of 14 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also scrambled twice for nine yards during the game.

Our view: Young vastly outplayed starter Kerry Collins, and showed chemistry with first-round pick Kenny Britt. The seeds of in-season QB controversy have been planted.

Titans | Young could start preseason game    Mon Aug 10, 06:42 PM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said QB Vince Young could start one of the team's remaining preseason games.

Our view: Young is in a battle with Patrick Ramsey to be the backup QB behind Kerry Collins, and will be given every opportunity to win the job. He threw a touchdown and an interception in last night's game versus Buffalo but at times looked lost on the field. Ramsey plays more like Collins than does Young, so the team may feel Ramsey is the better option at backup because in case of injury they wouldn't have to look that much different on offense.

Titans | Young tells what he has learned in Esquire magazine    Thu Aug 6, 09:14 AM

Jim Wyatt, of the Nashville Tennessean, reports that Titans QB Vince Young shares what he has learned in the September issue of Esquire magazine. Young discusses his childhood, Steve McNair, his family, and the Rose Bowl. He also says he is in the best shape of his life, and he has learned to not worry about his critics. Most boldly, Young says, "I don't know when I'll start again. But I will be the next black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. And I will be in the Hall of Fame."

Our view: We'll know what Vince Young has really learned when we see how well he competes with Patrick Ramsey to be the Titans backup QB. If he has really grown up like he says he has, he should easily dispose of Ramsey.

Titans | Young outplays Ramsey 'by a good bit'    Fri Jul 31, 07:48 PM

Paul Kuharsky, of ESPN.com, reports that QB Vince Young had a good day of practice and outperformed Patrick Ramsey "by a good bit". Kuharsky also writes that Young was generally on target whether he was in the pocket or on the move.

Our view: If reports like this continue to roll in, we might even recommend trading for Young in your dynasty leagues. The competition with Ramsey could re-light the fire under Young that has been missing since 2007.

Titans | Competition for No. 2 quarterback    Mon Jul 20, 11:42 AM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports there will be legitimate competition between Tennessee Titans QBs Vince Young and Patrick Ramsey for the team's No. 2 quarterback job during training camp. All things equal, the Titans would love for Young to blow Ramsey - and starting QB Kerry Collins, for that matter - out of the water and succeed. However, it is uncertain whether it's ever going to work for Young in Tennessee, and there are those inside the organization who think that it won't.

Our view: Young's attitude has wavered between "I'm going to shut up and play my role" to "I want to start and trade me if I can't" during the offseason. We still think he hasn't "got it" since his troubles last year and wouldn't be surprised if Ramsey beats him out to be the backup QB. Young's cap number next year is $14 million, and it looks very unlikely that he'll justify that cost.

Titans | Young, Ramsey expects to fight for backup job    Mon Jun 22, 04:42 PM

Terry McCormick, of The Nashville City Paper, reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young and QB Patrick Ramsey are expected to compete for primary backup quarterback job during training camp and their performance in preseason games likely will determine the winner.

Our view: Patrick Ramsey backed up Jay Cutler for the past 2 seasons and had no chance of moving up the depth chart. He signed a 1-year deal with the Titans shortly after Chris Simms (who was #3 in Tennessee last year) signed with the Broncos. He is more like Kerry Collins than Vince Young, so if forced into the starting lineup the Titans wouldn't have much of a different look on offense. Add in the fact that Ramsey has played for offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger before (in 2007) and it means there won't be much of a learning curve for the former 1st rounder. If Vince Young isn't careful he could fall from starting QB to clipboard holder in only one year. This is a battle that will be decided in training camp, and the 3rd preseason game should give us an indication as to who is winning.

Titans | Fisher not upset about Young speaking out    Thu Jun 18, 05:46 PM

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said he is not upset with QB Vince Young for speaking out because he knows backups want to play.

Our view: 'Anybody that is in a backup role right now is frustrated because they are not playing. It doesn't just stop at Vince. Everybody wants to be a starter and we understand that. I wouldn't classify it as frustration. He understands that he is in the situation that he is in and he just needs to keep working,' Fisher said.

Titans | Young considered quitting after 2008 season opener    Sun Jun 14, 11:07 AM

Gary Estwick, of the Nashville Tennessean, reports that Vince Young considered quitting football after being booed in last year's season opener in an interview that will air on ESPN.

Our view: Young denied feeling suicidal that night, and clarified his recent comments, saying he didn't want to be traded, but if he didn't start in the next two years, he would be ready to move on to another team. Expect him to move on to another team, as it seems that Young continues to misplay his hand. If Young was truly ready to quit on his team, why would they - and head coach Jeff Fisher - give him any deference now, especially in light of his recent comments?

Titans | V. Young says he "definitely" wants to remain with team    Thu Jun 11, 09:16 PM

Gary Estwick, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young said during an interview with ESPN Thursday, June 11, that he "definitely" wants to remain a Titan.

Our view: Young added, "I don't know what NFL player around the league doesn't want to play and be a starter. So what I'm saying is that I'm ready to play ball, and if it's not here in my next two years that I'm going to be able to play here, then I'm telling guys around the league I'm ready to play football. That's basically what I'm saying."

Titans | No chance team will move V. Young    Wed Jun 3, 08:49 PM

Paul Kuharsky, of ESPN.com, reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher downplayed QB Vince Young's recent comment during an interview on The Zone in Nashville. Young recently said that he would like to play elsewhere if he can't take back the starting job.

Our view: Fisher said, "I didn't bat an eye at it, when I saw Vince today we didn't bring it up. He was in the weight room working out, had a great workout." Fisher added, "He's been here just about every day and he's having a great offseason. That's really the only thing that's important to me. I would expect everyone on our football team to want to start. You need that attitude. I think he may have been led on a little bit in the interview, but I'm not paying attention to it, he knows there is no potential for us to move him and I am not backing down off of what I said at the end of that ball game or the Monday or Tuesday after Jacksonville."

Titans | Agent says Young doesn't want to be traded    Wed Jun 3, 08:51 AM

Terry McCormick, of The City Paper, reports the agent for Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young, Major Adams, said Young has no desire to be traded.

Our view: 'Vince's desire has always been to compete for the starting quarterback job in Tennessee,' Adams said. 'Even before they drafted him, they asked him if he thought he could compete for the starting role, and he said yes. He has always been a starter and that is his mindset. He has not asked to be traded, and in fact, is going to an event at Bud Adams' ranch this weekend. Plus, he was in there working out Monday. If he didn't have a desire to stay there, he wouldn't be doing any of that.' This is a make or break year for Young with the Titans as his cap number skyrockets to $14 million in 2010.

Paul Kuharsky, of ESPN.com, reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young may be overrating the outside interest in his services as it is unlikely another team would trade for Young's contract.

Our view: Young would have to be released to move on, and the Titans will not make a move anytime soon. However, if Young were to struggle in the preseason, QB Patrick Ramsey could emerge as the No. 2 quarterback should he have a good preseason.

Titans | V. Young wants to play or move on    Tue Jun 2, 01:11 AM

ESPN.com reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young said during an interview with Baltimore's WMAR-TV that if he doesn't win back his starting job, he would like to move on.

Our view: According to the television station, Young said, "I definitely want to get back out there playing ball and picking up where I left off, winning games and having a good time with my teammates and with the fans. At the same time, if them guys don't want me to be in there, it's time for me to make a career change for myself. Because the fact is I'm ready to play ball. If they're not ready for me to play ball, then somebody is." Vince needs to prove it on the field because talking about it won't get another team excited about signing him.

TMZ.com reports while Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young was on stage with rapper Nelly during a concert in Houston last week, Young rolled out a wad of cash and started showering the crowd with dollar bills. However, everyone emerged unharmed from the incident.

Titans | Young working hard to improve    Thu May 7, 12:30 PM

Terry McCormick, of The Nashville City Paper, reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young said he told head coach Jeff Fisher earlier this year that he does not want anything given to him while he tries to reclaim the starting quarterback job. 'Whatever I'm given, I want it to be what I earn,' Young said. He said he has been watching a lot more film, working on his mental game, studying defenses, and watching what other teams have tried to do against him. Young also said he is spending time just getting in shape. He attributes his new approach to just growing up.

Our view: He's talking the talk, now let's see if he can walk the walk. His cap number is huge in 2010 ($14 million) so anything he can do to convince the Titans that he's worth keeping around is a good thing. Kerry Collins is no spring chicken and we may see Vince Young back in the starting lineup in 2009 - provided he can beat out Patrick Ramsey for the #2 job.
