NFL | Vince Young to the CFL    Thu Mar 9, 09:21 PM

Free-agent QB Vince Young signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League Thursday, March 9.

Footballguys view: We don't expect to see him in an NFL uniform any time soon, though stranger things have happened. If he proves himself with the Roughriders, he could get another shot in the NFL. We are mostly letting you know this for CFL fantasy purposes.

NFL | Vince Young will not attend combine    Mon Mar 9, 06:29 PM

Former NFL QB Vince Young will not participate in the veterans combine later this month.

Footballguys view: Young is happy being retired. Other veteran quarterbacks like Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow may be there.

NFL | Vince Young retires    Sat Jun 14, 05:02 PM

Free-agent QB Vince Young (Browns) said he is retiring to take a position with the University of Texas. He has not filed retirement papers.

Footballguys view: Oh what might have been. That pretty much sums up Young's career. After a hot start with the Titans in 2006, his career started to fall apart. He never put it together as a passer in the NFL, and his confidence was shaken. Young last played for the Eagles in 2011. Since then he's bounced around from the Bills to the Packers to the Browns. He'll go down as a great college quarterback but he was a bust as a pro.

Browns | Vince Young cut    Mon May 12, 01:00 PM

The Cleveland Browns cut QB Vince Young Monday, May 12, according to owner Jimmy Haslam.

Footballguys view: Well that didn't take long. So much for Young having a shot with the Browns since former Titans OC Dowell Loggains was on the staff. Young may get a shot somewhere else for camp, but it appears like his pro days are done.

Browns | Vince Young signed     Thu May 1, 11:19 PM

Updating a previous report, the Cleveland Browns have officially signed QB Vince Young. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Young has a connection with Browns QB coach Dowell Loggains. The two worked together with the Titans, and now they get to work together again. Young is a good fit for the bootleg-heavy Kyle Shanahan system--if he makes the final roster.

Browns | Expected to sign Vince Young    Thu May 1, 02:07 PM

The Cleveland Browns are expected to sign QB Vince Young (Eagles) to a one-year contract Thursday, May 1. Terms of the contract have not been disclosed.

Footballguys view: Young was signed in August by the Packers and dropped later that same month. Could very easily happen again. Don't read much into this and the Thigpen signing.

Browns | Could sign both QBs trying out    Wed Apr 30, 01:20 PM

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine indicated the team may decide to sign free-agent QB Vince Young (Eagles) and QB Tyler Thigpen (Bills) after their minicamp. Both are participating in the minicamp on a tryout basis.

Footballguys view: The Browns need camp arms. They currently have Brian Hoyer as their top quarterback, but he's recovering from a knee injury he suffered last year.

Browns | Likely to sign quarterback    Tue Apr 29, 02:14 PM

The Cleveland Browns are likely to sign QB Vince Young (Eagles) or QB Tyler Thigpen (Bills) after the team completes a three-day minicamp this week.

Footballguys view: We'd put our money on Young. He has a prior working relationship with Browns QB coach Dowell Loggains dating back to their days in Tennessee. Young has the athleticism to fit nicely in OC Kyle Shanahan's system.

Browns | Vince Young update    Mon Apr 28, 03:19 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Vince Young (Eagles) will take a physical Monday, April 28, with the Cleveland Browns.

Footballguys view: If Young is taking a physical, then this could be more serious than originally thought. He has a connection to the new staff in Cleveland. Quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains was with Young during his time in Tennessee. That connection, plus his fit on a Kyle Shanahan system could make Young a better option than current incumbent Brian Hoyer. Regardless of if they add Young, the Browns will take a quarterback in the draft.

Browns | Vince Young to try out    Mon Apr 28, 10:41 AM

The Cleveland Browns will try out free-agent QB Vince Young (Packers) in a minicamp this week.

Footballguys view: Young has been trying to get back in the league for some time now. He's an intriguing option in the Kyle Shanahan offense--if the team picks him up. They are likely just updating their emergency list.

NFL | Vince Young wants to keep playing    Tue Feb 11, 06:53 PM

Free-agent QB Vince Young (Packers) said he wants to continue playing in the NFL and will start training in San Diego over the next two months. He last played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011.

Footballguys view: Young may have played his last game in the NFL. Some team would have to get pretty desperate to put him under center again. He failed to earn a spot with the Packers last year, but may get a spot in a camp somewhere this year as an arm.

NFL | Vince Young files for bankruptcy    Wed Jan 22, 01:18 PM

Packers | Not interested in Vince Young    Mon Nov 11, 01:05 PM

The Green Bay Packers are not showing any interest in free-agent QB Vince Young (Packers) at this point.

Footballguys view: That may change if they continue to get quarterbacks banged up. Aaron Rodgers is out for some time and Seneca Wallace was his replacement. In Week 10 we saw Wallace get hurt leading to Scott Tolzien. They're taking a look at former Packers QB Matt Flynn.

NFL | Vince Young lobbies to join Houston Texans     Mon Oct 14, 01:50 PM

Free agent QB Vince Young (Packers) took to twitter to lobby the Houston Texans to bring him in after the team's Week 6 game, and then suggested a visit may already in the works. 'I would like to pop in on those guys and see how that goes,' Young said. 'We're working on it.'

Footballguys view: The Texans may try to do something at the quarterback position. Matt Schaub is banged up and T.J. Yates was ineffective against the Rams in Week 6. Young has many Texas connections and may be a better option than what they're looking at right now.

Packers | Vince Young released    Sat Aug 31, 11:31 AM

The Green Bay Packers have released QB Vince Young.

Footballguys view: Things change pretty quickly around here. Young was solid in the Packers third preseason game but played poorly in the finale. He could work well in a simplified system because of his athleticism and arm strength. Perhaps a team like the Bills will take a look. The Packers are rolling with B.J. Coleman as the primary backup behind Aaron Rodgers.

Packers | Graham Harrell released    Sat Aug 24, 03:56 PM

The Green Bay Packers released QB Graham Harrell.

Footballguys view: It looks like Vince Young has won the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers. Harrell has a weak arm and never showed much during his playing time.

Packers | Vince Young solid in preseason performance    Sat Aug 24, 11:32 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Vince Young went 6-for-7 for 41 yards and one touchdown during the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 23, and is making a run for the No. 2 quarterback job. He also rushed for 39 yards on three carries, which is something head coach Mike McCarthy wanted to see Young do during the game.

Footballguys view: Young is making a strong case to win the primary backup job in Green Bay. His arm is stronger than Graham Harrell's, he's got more experience, and Young is much more gifted athletically.

Packers | Not expected to keep three QBs    Fri Aug 23, 05:08 PM

The Green Bay Packers likely will not keep three quarterbacks on their final roster and likely will have to decide whether to keep QB Graham Harrell or QB Vince Young. Some in the organization believe the team needs a better backup quarterback than Harrell.

Footballguys view: Young actually gives the team a better chance to win if he was pressed into action in a key game. He is a talented quarterback who was sidelined more by his emotional shortcomings than his play on the field.

Packers | Backup QBs get work    Tue Aug 20, 06:51 PM

With Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (illness) out Tuesday, Aug. 20, QBs Graham Harrell and Vince Young rotated in taking snaps with the first-team offense. Harrell is further ahead and is the favorite to win the backup job, and the preseason game Friday, Aug. 23, will determine if he locks down the job. Both quarterbacks have had their ups and downs in camp.

Footballguys view: Young has the stronger arm but Harrell has the experience in the system. We won't have any clarity on the backup QB situation until the end of the preseason.

Packers | Vince Young gets into game    Fri Aug 9, 11:25 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Vince Young, who just signed Tuesday, Aug. 6, made his team debut in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 9, against the Arizona Cardinals. Young completed one of his three pass attempts for seven yards, and he had two runs for 12 yards.

Footballguys view: The Green Bay Packers were clearly not content with Graham Harrell's status and brought Vince Young in as insurance. He's a bit rusty and didn't see much action, but overall seems to be progressing well in learning the Packers' offense.

Packers | All four QBs will play in preseason game    Thu Aug 8, 02:22 PM

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said QBs Aaron Rodgers, Vince Young, Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman will all see playing time during the first preseason game.

Footballguys view: We may not see much from Rodgers in their first preseason game. However, we should see more of the backups because they need to get work and establish pecking order. Young has a good chance to win the backup job behind Rodgers as Harrell and Coleman have struggled to make a positive impression.

Packers | Vince Young signed    Mon Aug 5, 05:49 PM

The Green Bay Packers have signed free-agent QB Vince Young (Bills) to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The team might not be happy with the play of either Graham Harrell or B.J. Coleman. Young gives the team an athletic backup QB behind Aaron Rodgers. He will at least help the team prepare for read/option QBs during practice. We're expecting Young to win the QB2 job for the Packers by the start of the regular season.

Packers | Vince Young to work out    Mon Aug 5, 08:12 AM

The Green Bay Packers will work out free-agent QB Vince Young (Bills) Monday, Aug. 5.

Footballguys view: Currently the Packers have Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman competing for the primary backup job behind Aaron Rodgers. The Packers could add Young to the roster to allow the defense to practice against a read/option QB. Young was out of the league in 2012 after getting cut by the Bills last summer.

Raiders | No longer interested in Vince Young    Wed May 1, 08:02 PM

The Oakland Raiders are no longer interested in free-agent QB Vince Young (Eagles) after drafting QB Tyler Wilson.

Raiders | Worked out Vince Young    Thu Apr 11, 07:16 PM

The Oakland Raiders worked out free-agent QB Vince Young (Eagles) Wednesday, April 10, and it is believed Young looked good during the workout.

Footballguys view: Young is a natural fit in Oakland and is basically a better version of Terrelle Pryor as long as he is in shape. If Matt Flynn flops, whoever the backup is in Oakland will get a shot, and it might be Young.

NFL | Vince Young to work out at Texas pro day    Tue Mar 5, 04:34 PM

Free-agent QB Vince Young (Eagles) will work out a Texas' pro day. Young is back at Texas finishing his degree.

Free-agent QB Vince Young (Eagles) reached out to Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald after their 58-0 loss Sunday, Dec. 9, via Twitter. Young tweeted 'You know I can help. Tell coach.'

Cardinals | Not expected to have interest in Vince Young    Mon Aug 27, 01:25 PM

The Arizona Cardinals are not expected to show any interest in free-agent QB Vince Young (Bills).

Bills | Vince Young released     Mon Aug 27, 10:51 AM

Buffalo Bills QB Vince Young said via Twitter that he has been released by the team.

Buffalo Bills QB Vince Young will get most of the snaps at quarterback in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25, after starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick exits.

Footballguys view: Young is competing with Tyler Thigpen to be the team's primary backup behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. Neither has really stood out this preseason.

Bills | Vince Young emerging in No. 2 QB battle     Sat Aug 18, 09:54 AM

Buffalo Bills QB Vince Young likely moved ahead in the race to be the team's No. 2 quarterback after a strong performance Friday, Aug. 17. Young was 8-of-14 passing for 123 yards. His counterpart, QB Tyler Thigpen, was 8-of-15 passing for 56 yards and an interception in the game.

Footballguys view: If Thigpen loses out on the QB2 job he could get cut. With his starting experience there's likely going to be teams interested in him on the open market.

Bills | Vince Young to lead second-string in preseason outing    Fri Aug 17, 11:51 AM

Buffalo Bills backup QB Vince Young will quarterback the team's second-string offense during their second preseason game. He was hindered somewhat in their last game by the team's third-string offensive line. Young is competing with Tyler Thigpen for the backup quarterback duties.

Footballguys view: The Bills are likely to see that their backup quarterback situation isn't great, but that is the case for many teams around the league.

Bills | Vince Young still not comfortable with offense    Thu Aug 16, 05:24 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Vince Young is still not completely comfortable with the team's offense. Young said he is still not relaxed and hopes more reps in practice and games will help.

Footballguys view: Young is competing with Tyler Thigpen to be the team's primary backup behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. The race for QB2 is too close to call right now and we won't have a winner until later in the preseason.

Bills | Hoping to divide QB reps equally Friday     Thu Aug 16, 12:33 PM

The Buffalo Bills are hoping QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tyler Thigpen and Vince Young receive roughly 20 reps each in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 17. '(It) did not happen last week,' Gailey said of the playing time. 'Tyler got 19 and Vince got 30. We would like to stay at 20 and 20 if we can. Buffalo Bills QB Tyler Thigpen was the second quarterback in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9. QB Vince Young entered the game after Thigpen was done.

Bills | Tyler Thigpen, Vince Young struggling    Wed Aug 1, 03:44 PM

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said QBs Tyler Thigpen and Vince Young have been inconsistent during practice and neither has taken the lead for the No. 2 quarterback job. 'They both have not done anything to distance themselves from the other,' Gailey said. 'Both - some things are good one day and some things are bad one day. We just have to keep letting them play. They've got to get a feel of the speed of the game with pads, feeling the pass rush around them, doing the little things they do best.' Young has had trouble getting comfortable with the offense and Thigpen has not shown the accuracy the team wants from his passing.

Bills | Neither backup QB distancing themselves    Tue Jul 31, 10:52 PM

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said Tuesday, July 31, that neither QB Vince Young, nor QB Tyler Thigpen, is distancing himself in the race for the No. 2 quarterback job behind starter QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. 'Neither one of them has done anything; they both (have done) some things good one day and some things that are bad one day,' Gailey said. 'We just have to keep letting them play.'

Footballguys view: If Young wins the job, he could have value in the event of a Ryan Fitzpatrick injury because of his running ability, but it sounds like the winner of this competition will be by default.

Bills | No. 2 QB still undecided     Sat Jul 21, 11:06 AM

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey remained coy regarding the battle for the team's No. 2 quarterback job, only saying QBs Tyler Thigpen and Vince Young will battle it out during training camp and the preseason. 'I think it's going to be a good competition,' Gailey said. 'Tyler has the advantage of being here and being in the system. Vince has the advantage of playing in games and the experience. Vince has more experience than Tyler. Tyler has more experience in this offense than Vince. So there's a trade-off there. It depends on who ends up doing the best job during the course of the entire preseason.'

Footballguys view: We have a feeling Young should win this job. He's more physically gifted than Thigpen and has a stronger arm. We'll see this competition play itself out during training camp. The loser of this battle has a good chance of being cut by the team if they choose to only carry two QBs on the roster.

Bills | Tyler Thigpen, Vince Young rotate in No. 2 QB spot    Sat Jun 23, 09:18 PM

Buffalo Bills QBs Tyler Thigpen and Vince Young rotated in and out with the second unit during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. The two are expected to continue their battle into training camp, with the loser likely being cut. Head coach Chan Gailey has previously stated WR Brad Smith will be used as the No. 3 quarterback, mainly for his work in the Wildcat package.

Footballguys view: Thigpen has the experience in Gailey's offense, but Young is the more physically gifted QB. With Smith essentially locked in as the third-string guy the loser of the battle for QB2 may get cut.

Bills | Vince Young having problems picking up offense    Thu Jun 21, 07:08 PM

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said QB Vince Young is having trouble picking up the nuances of the offense because Gailey has added things to the playbook each of the last two seasons. 'It would not have been as hard two years ago, but we are in so much more of an advanced stage now than we were two years ago. He is trying to learn what the base concepts are and how we have advanced to where we are today without the benefit of going through the baby steps,' Gailey said.

Footballguys view: We've heard both Young is looking good and Young is struggling so far this offseason. Thigpen has a head start on Young because he has more experience in Gailey's offense. This is a battle that should last throughout training camp.

Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's job as the team's starting quarterback appears safe as QBs Vince Young and Tyler Thigpen have struggled in offseason practices. Young is considered the favorite for the backup role, although he and Thigpen have had timing issues in the passing game.

Footballguys view: No question Fitzpatrick is the clear cut starter. Young and Thigpen are backup caliber QBs who will compete in training camp. WR/QB Brad Smith is likely going to be the team's third-string QB.

Bills | Vince Young favorite in No. 2 QB battle?    Wed Jun 20, 11:04 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Vince Young looks like the clear-cut favorite early on in the battle to serve as the team's primary backup to starter QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Young is battling QB Tyler Thigpen for the job.

Footballguys view: Young's skill set is perfect for Chan Gailey's system and he could thrive if given the chance to start. The loser of this competition is likely to be cut as WR/QB Brad Smith is pretty much penciled in as the team's third-string QB.

Bills | Tyler Thigpen works ahead of Vince Young    Tue Jun 19, 11:13 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Tyler Thigpen worked as the No. 2 quarterback in practice Tuesday, June 19, at minicamp, while QB Vince Young worked as the No. 3. Earlier reports have head coach Chan Gailey leaning toward using WR Brad Smith as the third QB, with the loser of the Thigpen-Young battle failing to earn a roster spot.

Footballguys view: This battle should last throughout training camp. If Young can't beat out Thigpen for the backup job behind Ryan Fitzpatrick it's not a good sign for his future in the league. Thigpen has plenty of experience working under HC Chan Gailey, but Young is the superior talent.

Bills | QB Young does not get a lot of guaranteed money    Sat Jun 16, 01:38 PM

Young will make a base salary of $1.25 million if he makes the team and is scheduled to receive just over $24,000 per game every week he is on the active roster.

Footballguys view: Young is battling with Tyler Thigpen to be the primary backup behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bills plan to use WR/QB Brad Smith as their third-string guy.

Tim Graham, from the Buffalo News, reports via Twitter that Bills head coach Chan Gailey intends for WR Brad Smith to play as the team's third QB in 2012. This strongly suggests the loser of the Vince Young/Tyler Thigpen competition will be out of a job.

Footballguys view: Smith can play as a Wildcat QB in addition to helping out as a WR in the passing game. Thigpen has plenty of experience playing under Gailey but we think Young is likely to win the primary backup job behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick.
