Lions | Tim Wright headed to Detroit    Mon Aug 31, 09:29 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Tim Wright was acquired by the Detroit Lions Monday, Aug. 31, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Lions were concerned with Joseph Fauria's ability to stay healthy, so they had to make a move. Brandon Pettigrew and Eric Ebron are locks as the top two tight ends for the Lions. Wright and Fauria could compete for one final roster spot at the position.

Buccaneers | Tim Wright claimed by TB    Fri Jun 12, 04:24 PM

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, June 12.

Footballguys view: Wright goes back to where he came from. The Bucs traded him to the Patriots last year so they could add guard Logan Mankins. Now, Wright is back to compete as a reserve tight end behind Austin Seferian-Jenkins. His main competition for the team's TE2 spot is Brandon Myers.

Patriots | Tim Wright released    Thu Jun 11, 09:56 AM

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright was released Thursday, June 11.

Footballguys view: Wright was the guy everyone thought was a steal from Tampa Bay in the trade with Logan Mankins, but he was on the block for a reason. He never lived up to expectations and couldn't get out from Rob Gronkowski's shadow. Wherever he lands, we don't expect much more of an impact.

Patriots | Tim Wright could see more action    Sat Dec 27, 04:39 PM

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright could see more playing time Sunday, Dec. 28, as beat writer Ben Volin believes TE Rob Gronkowski is unlikely to play much.

Footballguys view: We don't see Wright as more than a TE2. He has upside, but remember that Tom Brady may not play much and we don't know what to expect from Jimmy Garoppolo either.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski plays in all snaps    Mon Dec 22, 06:21 PM

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski played in all 61 of the team's offensive snaps in Week 16 against the New York Jets, showing that he is completely healthy at season's end. TE Tim Wright played in only seven snaps in the first half compared to 25 in the second half with the team going to a faster tempo on offense.

Patriots | Tim Wright catches nearly everything    Wed Nov 26, 10:39 AM

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright has 23 catches on 26 targets this season. 'Every time we throw to him it's a touchdown - we'll try to find him more down there,' QB Tom Brady said after Wright's two-touchdown performance in Week 12. 'He does a great job in the coverage and finds the open spots.'

Footballguys view: Wright has been the second tight end the Patriots have been missing since Aaron Hernandez was arrested. Now, Wright is nowhere near what Hernandez was on the football field, but his athleticism allows the team to stretch the field in multiple directions. Wright is a risky start each week because the Patriots have one-off game plans, but when he hits--he hits big.

Patriots | Tim Wright sees extensive action    Sun Nov 23, 06:47 PM

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright played a season-high 60 snaps in Week 12 against the Detroit Lions, which shattered his previous best of 21 snaps, which he hit twice. He finished with five receptions for 36 yards and two touchdowns.

Footballguys view: Wright's use will be variable, but he can definitely deliver in the end zone when he is used. There are worse desperation plays at tight end, and Wright is also a viable handcuff to Rob Gronkowski for nervous owners.

Patriots | Tim Wright sees minute time    Mon Oct 13, 11:22 AM

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright played just 16 of 74 offensive snaps in Week 6 Sunday, Oct. 12.

Footballguys view: Wright scored a touchdown, so if you were forced to start him then you're happy with that. He's not been a big part of the game plan for the Patriots, but monitor his snap count in deeper leagues. The Patriots have a mess in the backfield right now, so they could just turn things over to Tom Brady and the air attack like they did in Week 6.

Patriots | Want to grow Tim Wright's role    Fri Oct 10, 10:05 PM

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright took on a bigger role in the pass game in Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and the team wants to continue to increase Wright's role.

Footballguys view: Wright isn't worth more than a desperation start right now, but he's worth an add in deep leagues and TE premium leagues at least, and he could help Tom Brady's stock bounce back.

Patriots | Tim Wright played limited snaps    Mon Oct 6, 06:19 PM

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright, who had five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown in Week 5, played just 19 of 84 offensive snaps against the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday night.

Footballguys view: Wright was used efficiently against the Bengals in Week 5. Expect this trend to continue moving forward. The Patriots protected Tom Brady better, and Wright provided them with another weapon in their anemic passing game.

Patriots | Tim Wright debuts    Fri Aug 29, 10:58 AM

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright caught four passes for 43 yards in roughly one half of action in the final preseason game Thursday, Aug. 28. It was his first game with his new team.

Footballguys view: Wright is an intriguing fit on the Patriots. He's a move tight end, basically a super-sized wide receiver, who can attack the seam. We're interested in him as a late-round TE3 in super deep leagues.

Patriots | Tim Wright to play    Thu Aug 28, 04:48 PM

New England Patriots TE Timothy Wright is expected to play Thursday, Aug. 28, against the New York Giants after recently being acquired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Footballguys view: Wright was really the throw in to get a pick for Logan Mankins. A converted wide receiver, he got a shot last year because the wide receivers were a mess in Tampa last year. While we know that Bill Belichick likes two-tight end sets, he isn't married to them and Wright has Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman at least in front of him. While he's a big, athletic player, we think his upside is a bit limited and even though he gets Aaron Hernandez comparisons in terms of talent, he's a pale shadow. Right now he is no better than a TE3.

Patriots | Like Timothy Wright    Wed Aug 27, 10:19 PM

The New England Patriots really like TE Timothy Wright, acquired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for OL Logan Mankins. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport even considers him as the team's 'new' Aaron Hernandez, or complement to TE Rob Gronkowski.

Patriots | No setbacks for Rob Gronkowski    Tue Aug 26, 06:30 PM

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) has not encountered any setbacks from the end of last week, and the acquisition of TE Timothy Wright is not a sign that the team is concerned about Gronkowski's health. The Patriots have wanted to remain cautious with Gronkowski's workload this preseason. Wright is a 'move' tight end, similar to the role free-agent TE Aaron Hernandez used to play with the team.

Footballguys view: Don't read anything into this move re: Gronkowski, and don't assume that the Pats will go back to two TE as their base set. Wright fills a gap in the Patriots personnel that they have been trying to plug, including flirting with Dustin Keller earlier this offseason, but like a lot of their passcatchers, he will be a role model.

Buccaneers | Acquire Logan Mankins    Tue Aug 26, 01:44 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to the parameters of a trade to acquire OG Logan Mankins (Patriots) in exchange for TE Timothy Wright and an undisclosed draft pick Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Footballguys view: This should be a sigh of relief for anyone investing in any part of the Bucs offense. Their guard play was quite possibly the worst in the league, and Mankins is a massive upgrade. Doug Martin and Vincent Jackson's values are a little safer than they were this morning.

Patriots | Acquire Tim Wright    Tue Aug 26, 01:43 PM

The New England Patriots acquired TE Timothy Wright and an undisclosed draft pick from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for OG Logan Mankins.

Footballguys view: Wright is probably going to be a role player who doesn't approach Aaron Hernandez's level of involvement in the Patriots offense. This trade was mainly about the Pats recouping value for a player they saw as overpriced and the Bucs sorely needing help at guard. The pick was reportedly a fourth-rounder, which is solid value if the Patriots offensive line depth can mask the loss of a declining but still quality player.

Buccaneers | Timothy Wright struggling    Sun Aug 17, 10:23 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Timothy Wright has been struggling with his catching and blocking during practice, according to head coach Lovie Smith. 'He's dropped some balls. If you watched practice, he's dropped balls. But he's a big part of what we want to do with the two-receiver, two-tight-end set. Tim hasn't blocked as well inside. Once you're that H-back and you don't block, now they say you're just another receiver and teams start going nickel. If they do that at least you have to be a good pass catcher. Tim's a good player. He just hasn't played as well as he needs to lately,' Smith said. Wright may have to compete with TE Luke Stocker for a roster spot if he does not improve his play.

Footballguys view: Wright had some sleeper promise as a slot receiver who could masquerade as a tight end in fantasy leagues, but his star is dimming at the moment. Rookie Austin Seferian-Jenkins could get a decent role as soon as he is ready if Wright continues to have lapses.

Buccaneers | Austin Seferian-Jenkins may be behind    Fri Jun 20, 04:23 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins may not receive much playing time in the short term, although he's likely to be the team's long-term answer at the position. He will not take part in the team's offseason program, which could put him behind in the competition, and TEs Brandon Myers, Timothy Wright and Luke Stocker all have more experience.

Footballguys view: We love Seferian-Jenkins because of his size/speed combination. We'll see if he can continue creating mismatches as a move tight end now that he's in the pros. Don't go crazy for him in your drafts, but watch his progress in camp and the early portion of the season.

Buccaneers | Timothy Wright could have big role    Fri Jun 13, 01:42 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Timothy Wright could have a big role in the offense despite the offseason additions of TEs Brandon Myers and Austin Seferian-Jenkins, according to head coach Lovie Smith. Smith said that he has 'big plans' for Wright this year.

Footballguys view: We'd be interested to see how that works out. Seferian-Jenkins is the much better target because of his size and athletic ability. The team also added Mike Evans in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. We can't see them going hog wild through the air, so it's best to look for a sleeper TE elsewhere.

Buccaneers | Tim Wright may see time at wide receiver    Tue Apr 22, 01:28 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Timothy Wright said he may see time at wide receiver this year in some formations. Wright last played wide receiver in college.

Footballguys view: The Buccaneers have no proven #2 wide receiver, and even if they draft one in the first or second round, that just pushes their problem to the #3 wide receiver spot. If Wright can play a regular role in the passing game as a #3 wideout, but retain his tight end eligibility in fantasy leagues, he could have fantasy relevance again this year.

Buccaneers | Mike Glennon efficient in win    Sun Nov 24, 06:11 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon completed 14 of his 21 pass attempts for 247 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 12 game against the Detroit Lions. He finished with a season-high 138.4 quarterback rating. 'He's very calm in the huddle, no matter what the situation is in the game,' TE Timothy Wright said Sunday, Nov. 24.

Footballguys view: Glennon is playing himself into quarterback of the future designation at this point and maybe even saving Greg Schiano's job in the process. He beat up on a weak secondary, which is promising because it translated to good numbers even with few attempts. He's a worthy dynasty stash.

Buccaneers | Mike Williams has torn hamstring    Fri Oct 25, 07:14 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Williams (hamstring) said he is dealing with a torn hamstring.

Buccaneers | Timothy Wright has chemistry with Mike Glennon    Wed Oct 16, 05:15 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Timothy Wright, a former undrafted wide receiver, has chemistry with rookie QB Mike Glennon, and it showed in Wright's start in Week 6 when he had seven catches for 91 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. 'We came in together as rookies and we spent a lot of time during the offseason throwing routes on air and getting that timing down, that connection,' said Wright. 'You never thought, down this line, that we'd be the two hooking up together at this point, but it happened, and it's starting to show for us.' Wright caught four of his seven passes on third downs, and they all resulted in moving the chains.

Footballguys view: Wright is an interesting name to consider in deep leagues. The chemistry with Glennon is there, and should continue to be there as the season goes on. Add Wright if you're looking for bye week help at the tight end position in a deep league.
