NFL | LaMarr Woodley awaiting a call Fri Jul 15, 02:11 AM
Free-agent LB LaMarr Woodley (Cardinals) said Thursday, July 14, he'll be ready if a team calls him with interest. 'Yeah, I'm staying in shape, but the thing is, I've put myself in a situation where I've been hurt these past few years, so I don't really control my situation right now,' Woodley said. 'I still can go out there and play at a high level. I just have to be out there on the field to go out there and play at a high level and not just be used for certain situations as far as going out there stopping the run.'
Footballguys view: Woodley's last two seasons have ended on I.R. and there may not be much left for him to contribute in the NFL. He's appeared in 16 games over the last two years, but he hasn't played a full 16-game season since 2010. Most around the league consider him to be washed up at this point in his career. |

Raiders | LaMarr Woodley will be released Sun Mar 1, 07:07 PM
The Oakland Raiders plan to release DE LaMarr Woodley, a league source said Sunday, March 1. He made just five tackles in six games before his season ended due to a torn biceps.
Footballguys view: The Raiders save $5.187 million against the salary cap without adding any dead money with the transaction. Last year, the Raiders added a bunch of older free agents like Woodley and it just didn't work out. Woodley is not the same player he used to be, and there may not be much interest in him on the open market. |

Raiders | LaMarr Woodley says he is healthy Sun Jun 1, 08:23 PM
Oakland Raiders DE LaMarr Woodley said he is recovered from the lower body injuries he has dealt with the last two seasons. He is trying new training techniques in an attempt to prevent injuries in the future.
Footballguys view: Woodley may have lost a step because of these lower body injuries. We'll see him line up at defensive end for the Raiders instead of outside linebacker like he did with the Steelers. Woodley said he is looking forward to playing defensive end because he will not have to drop back in coverage. |

Oakland Raiders OLB Khalil Mack will likely play defensive end on passing downs in the team's four-man front. LB LaMarr Woodley will likely be on the other end, which moves DE Justin Tuck inside.
Footballguys view: The move makes sense for the Raiders. Mack is a versatile player with multiple moves to get after the passer. The team should use him in any capacity they can, and move him all over the field to frustrate opponents. |

Footballguys view: The writing was on the wall when the Steelers re-signed Jason Worilds. By designating him as a post June 1st cut, they be able to spread his $14.17 million in dead money over the next two seasons. Woodley will generate interest as a part-time pass-rusher for 3-4 teams. |

Steelers | LaMarr Woodley odd man out? Mon Feb 17, 01:56 AM
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette beat writer Ed Bouchette speculates Pittsburgh Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley may have played his last game with the team. By cutting Woodley now, the Steelers would suffer a $14.17 million cap hit this year, which is not significantly more than the $13.59 million hit they would take if they kept him. Plus, after 2014, he would be off the books entirely, which is a good prospect for a team that has backed itself into a difficult salary-cap situation. Bouchette says the Steelers could designate Woodley as a post-June 1 release, which would spread out the hit over the 2014 and 2015 seasons and give the team an extra $8 million to spend this year. However, that $8 million would not become available until after June 1.

Steelers | Unclear of future for LaMarr Woodley Wed Feb 12, 03:28 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert would not comment on if injury issues are enough to consider cutting LB LaMarr Woodley and eating $14 million in dead money.
Footballguys view: That's a lot of money to send by the wayside. The Steelers are usually responsible with contracts, so this Woodley situation is unusual for the team. |
