NFL | Danny Woodhead retires    Sat Mar 17, 09:19 AM

Free-agent RB Danny Woodhead (Ravens) announced his retirement from the National Football League via Instagram Friday, March 16.

Footballguys view: Woodhead was drawing interest from a couple of teams (Patriots, Falcons) in free agency but instead decided to hang up his cleats. He was known as the 'White Reggie Bush' during his college career at DII Chadron State in Nebraska and Woodhead did a good job of maximizing his pro career. He was a valuable weapon as a change-of-pace back for multiple teams in the league.

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead is believed to be in jeopardy of being cut this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Ravens need cap space and getting rid of Woodhead would free up $1.8 million. The veteran didn't do much with the Ravens last year and only made it through eight games healthy. Some team could show interest in him as a change-of-pace back.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead ready for regular workload    Fri Nov 24, 01:52 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead will not be on a snap count in Week 12 against the Houston Texans, according to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Woodhead was limited to 13 snaps in Week 11 in his return from the Reserve/Injured list with a hamstring injury in part due to the big lead Baltimore enjoyed.

Footballguys view: The Ravens eased Woodhead into action last week against the Packers as he only played 13 snaps. We could see him getting as much as twice the snap count this week against the Texans. Woodhead has flex appeal for fantasy owners in PPR leagues.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead sparsely used    Mon Nov 20, 10:07 AM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead played 13 of 59 plays (22 percent) in Week 11.

Footballguys view: The team was able to get Woodhead back this week, and there's no surprise that they eased him into action. Starting RB Alex Collins played 38 of 59 snaps for the Ravens as they handily beat the Packers on Sunday. As Woodhead gets back into football shape, his role with the team should grow. He's got RB2 or flex appeal on a weekly basis for fantasy owners in PPR leagues.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead catches five passes    Sun Nov 19, 04:31 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead caught five passes for 21 yards against the Green Bay Packers in Week 11.

Footballguys view: Woodhead only got one carry, but he was an important part of the passing game and he was targeted on a red zone wheel route that resulted in an interception. He'll have at least PPR RB2/Flex consideration going forward.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead good to go    Sat Nov 18, 12:02 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Nov. 18.

Footballguys view: Woodhead looked to be in for a large role with the Ravens before sustaining this injury in Week 1. He played six snaps against the Bengals that week, yet touched the ball four times for 37 yards. Now that he's back, Woodhead takes over the change-of-pace role behind Alex Collins. In PPR formats, Woodhead has RB2 upside and plenty of flex appeal. This week, fantasy owners can look at him as a 'what the heck' flex just to see how much he needs to get his legs back under him.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead expected to play    Fri Nov 17, 11:43 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead's (hamstring) status for the Week 11 game against the Green Bay Packers won't be determined until later in the weekend, according to head coach John Harbaugh, but Harbaugh said the 'expectation remains' for Woodhead to play.

Footballguys view: When back in the mix, Woodhead has RB2 or flex appeal in PPR leagues. He should be very involved in the offense, especially if QB Joe Flacco gets his wish and the team airs it out a bit more.

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) will continue to take part in practice, but head coach John Harbaugh said he is not sure if Woodhead will be activated from the Reserve/Injured list this week.

Footballguys view: Woodhead is an interesting stash player in deeper leagues. He's set to return this week of the team feels he's healthy enough, and Woodhead has RB2 or flex value in PPR leagues based on his skill set and his role in the Ravens offense.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead unsure about Week 11 return    Tue Nov 7, 01:22 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) practice Tuesday, Nov. 7, but declined to tell reporters when he is planning on returning to game action.

Footballguys view: Woodhead should be back by Week 11, and fantasy owners in leagues with bench space can go ahead and add him now. Monitor his status leading up to Week 11 as Woodhead looked like he was going to have a large role for the Ravens offense before this injury. He's got RB2 upside for fantasy owners in PPR leagues when healthy.

Footballguys view: The Ravens seemed intent on making Woodhead a big part of their offense before his injury. Now that he's close to returning it's time to pick him up. He is eligible to return in Week 11 and has RB2 or flex value in PPR leagues.

Ravens | No timetable for Danny Woodhead    Fri Oct 13, 08:28 PM

Baltimore Ravens WR Danny Woodhead (hamstring) does not have a timetable for when he will return to practice, but head coach John Harbaugh said Woodhead will be evaluated in the near future.

Footballguys view: Woodhead did not have surgery on this injury and there's been no report of setbacks for the change-of-pace runner. He's on the Reserve/Injured list but could be designated to return. There's a possibility he could be back around Week 11. That would complicate this backfield even further and take away touches from guys like Buck Allen and Alex Collins.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead to IR, out eight weeks    Thu Sep 14, 12:17 PM

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) is expected to return in eight weeks and was placed on the Reserve/Injured list designated to return Thursday, Sept. 14. He will not require surgery. RB Jeremy Langford was signed to the active roster.

Footballguys view: Javorius Allen will get the passing down work, and probably about half the carries. Terrance West will get more of the work and is likely to be able to find more success against the Cleveland Browns. Allen is no better than a flex play this week, though that's more than he was worth last week.

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) will be sidelined four to six weeks with his hamstring injury, according to sources. He is expected to play again this season.

Footballguys view: Woodhead should be back this year but in the meantime the team will turn to Buck Allen. Terrance West is the starter for the team and Allen will play the Woodhead role. In PPR leagues, Allen will have flex appeal as the pass-catching back for the Ravens.

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead's (hamstring) timetable won't be known until Tuesday, Sept. 12, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Woodhead is believed to have suffered a serious hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: The Ravens will move forward with a backfield that consists of Terrance West as the starter. Behind him, Buck Allen should play the Woodhead role. They do have Alex Collins and Jeremy Langford on the practice squad now and might bring one of them up.

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) left the Week 1 game early because of a hamstring injury. He is considered doubtful to return.

Footballguys view: Woodhead was grabbing the same hamstring he hurt in the preseason. He is probably looking at a multi-week absence. Javorius Allen should become the primary receiver back in his stead and one of Alex Collins or Jeremy Langford could be called up from the practice squad to be the #3 running back.

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 23, and is not expected to play in the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Saturday, Aug. 23.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead has hamstring injury    Wed Aug 23, 09:52 AM

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) is dealing with a hamstring injury that could end his preseason.

Footballguys view: Woodhead is a seasoned veteran who doesn't need a ton of reps in the preseason. The team needs weapons on offense, and Woodhead could catch 65 passes (or more) for the Ravens in 2017. In PPR leagues, Woodhead has flex appeal and could perform as a RB2 on some weeks.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead not on field    Sat Aug 19, 03:24 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Saturday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: This could just be a day of rest for Woodhead. The Ravens don't have a ton of weapons on offense, and Woodhead can be one of the players QB Joe Flacco relies on the most. We could see him catching 60-70 passes for the Ravens this year.

Ravens | Joe Flacco excited by Danny Woodhead    Thu Jul 20, 12:05 AM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead has impressed his new teammates thus far -- specifically QB Joe Flacco -- not just with what he can do after making a reception, but also before making the catch. 'Really, ever since we lost Ray Rice, we haven't had a type of back that's quite like how Ray was and quite like how Danny is in the passing game,' Flacco said. 'They just have a very good feel for when they're open and how to get open, how to sit in holes, how to find my eyes, and you can already see that. You can see he has a really good feel for those kinds of things. If you remember back, obviously, Ray was really good at doing that, and that gives a lot to your offense for sure.'

Footballguys view: Woodhead has carved out a niche in the NFL and should fit into the offense very well. We're not shocked he is impressing his teammates, as Woodhead has always been a hard worker. He appears to be fully head from last September's ACL injury so, that's a bonus. Expect a big start to the season for Woodhead, as Kenneth Dixon is suspended for the first four games of the year and Woodhead will be his replacement. That might tail off once Dixon returns, especially with a 32-year old back like Woodhead. Right now Woodhead has an ADP of 85 overall and is the 34th running back off the board in early drafts.

Ravens | Terrance West the Week 1 starter?    Fri Jul 7, 09:58 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Terrance West is projected to be the starter in Week 1, according to Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com, with RB Danny Woodhead seeing some carries but being used mainly in the passing game.

Footballguys view: West has RB2 value for the first four weeks while Kenneth Dixon is suspended, but after Dixon returns this will turn into an ugly three-way committee. The Ravens backfield didn't support one consistent fantasy starter as a two-way committee last year, so the outlook isn't great for any of these backs. Woodhead in PPR leagues is best commodity because of the high target volume to running backs in this offense.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead active in practice    Mon Jun 19, 09:48 AM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead was a popular target in the passing game during minicamp last week.

Footballguys view: Here is a drumbeat fantasy owners need to be listening for. There are 86 receptions missing from this offense with Dennis Pitta released. Those targets/catches aren't necessarily going to whatever tight end wins the starting job. Woodhead could certainly be in for some of those targets along with WR Jeremy Maclin. We think projecting Woodhead for 50-ish catches in 2017 sounds reasonable.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead being utilized     Thu Jun 1, 10:44 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead was a frequent target of QB Joe Flacco during practice Thursday, June 1, and Woodhead was used in a variety of ways throughout the session.

Footballguys view: Message! Woodhead is a reliable target who creates mismatches every time he's on the field. The potential to be a RB2 in PPR leagues is always there with him based on Woodhead's skill set and his role with his new team. He's got a current ADP of RB32 (7.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead confident in recovery    Fri Mar 10, 07:37 PM

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (knee) said he believes he will be the same playmaker in 2017 as he has always been even though he is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: It will be interesting to see how much the Ravens use Woodhead this year. If healthy, Woodhead can put up RB2 numbers for fantasy players in PPR leagues. NFL suspended Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon four games for violating the league's policy on PEDs. That means the first four games could be a backfield containing Woodhead and Terrance West.

Ravens | Danny Woodhead headed to Baltimore    Wed Mar 8, 10:39 PM

San Diego Chargers impending free-agent RB Danny Woodhead agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, March 8, according to a source. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Chargers will miss the dynamic utility back, but we know that if he's healthy the team wants to ride Melvin Gordon. Woodhead should be a help for a backfield which under-performed last season, and he will be another weapon in the passing game for Joe Flacco.

Broncos | Danny Woodhead receiving interest in DEN    Tue Mar 7, 12:20 PM

Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent RB Danny Woodhead (knee) is far enough along from his anterior cruciate ligament tear that he's receiving interest from the Denver Broncos and another team.

Footballguys view: The Broncos would be a good fit for Woodhead. They have C.J. Anderson as their lead back, but they could use a change-of-pace back. Woodhead worked well with Mike McCoy during their time together with the Chargers, and that could continue in the AFC West with the Broncos.

Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent RB Danny Woodhead has been given an offer to re-sign with the Chargers, according to Woodhead's agent. The details of the offer were not disclosed.

Chargers | Chargers seek to bring back Danny Woodhead    Tue Jan 31, 01:04 AM

The Los Angeles Chargers are hoping to re-sign RB Danny Woodhead (knee) this offseason. Woodhead is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

Footballguys view: Woodhead looked as good as ever before tearing his ACL early in the season. He just turned 32, but doesn't seem to be slowing down. We'll see if that still holds true after he returns from reconstructive knee surgery. For now, it looks like he's still part of the renaissance of 30+ year old running backs in the NFL.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead ahead of schedule    Tue Jan 17, 03:29 PM

Los Angeles Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (knee) is six weeks ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Great news for the Chargers here. Woodhead is one of the most versatile players in the league, and he's a dangerous weapon for defenses to contend with. Fantasy owners know what to expect from him, even as a change-of-pace back behind Melvin Gordon. In PPR leagues, Woodhead has RB2 upside each week because of his role in the offense.

Chargers | Danny Woodhead eyeing return    Fri Jan 6, 11:56 PM

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (knee) said he isn't concerned about his knee injury and expects to be the same productive player when he returns.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners should expect that as well. In PPR formats, Woodhead has RB2 upside as a starter every week. We'll be monitoring his recovery closely as the year goes on.

Chargers | San Diego likely to sign Dexter McCluster    Tue Sep 20, 01:40 PM

Free-agent RB Dexter McCluster (Titans) is expected to sign RB Dexter McCluster shortly to fill the pass-catching role out of the backfield left behind by the season-ending ACL injury to Danny Woodhead, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Footballguys view: McCluster played under Chargers OC Ken Whisenhunt when both were with the Tennessee Titans. He can play the Woodhead role, he just won't look as good or be as productive. We still think Woodhead's injury just opens the door for Melvin Gordon to do more -- and he's looked fantastic this year.

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a torn anterior cruciate ligament Monday, Sept. 19.

Footballguys view: We hate to see this, especially since the Chargers lost WR Keenan Allen for the season after Week 1. Woodhead was a key piece of the offense, and now the team will turn to Melvin Gordon to do more. He's responded with a great start to the 2016 season so far. Kenneth Farrow and Andre Williams will compete for spots in the pecking order behind Gordon.
