Bills | Ex-player reveals bounty system under Gregg Williams     Mon Mar 5, 08:49 AM

Former Buffalo Bills S Coy Wire said St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams promoted cash bonuses for delivering hits that seriously injured opponents while he was head coach of the Bills. 'There was financial compensation,' Wire said. Wire joined the team in 2002 and said an environment of 'malicious intent' was in place when he arrived. 'There were rewards. There never was a point where cash was handed out in front of the team. But surely, you were going to be rewarded. When somebody made a big hit that hurt an opponent, it was commended and encouraged,' Wire said.

The Atlanta Falcons have released DE Chauncey Davis, DT Trey Lewis and LB Coy Wire. They have waived RB Gartrell Johnson, FB Lucas Cox, WR Brandyn Harvey, TE Marquez Branson, Cs Paul Fenaroli and Ryan McMahon, DEs Tom McCarthy and Kiante Tripp, LB Bear Woods, CB Kamaal McIlwain, S Matt Hansen, S Rafael Priest and S Suaesi Tuimaunei. The team have released WR Andy Strickland (undisclosed) after raching an injury settlement.

Footballguys view: Chauncey Davis has made a few plays as a rotational end for the team, but they reinforced at the position with Ray Edwards in free agency. Johnson was reportedly having a good camp, but after the team re-signed Jason Snelling, his roster spot was not longer his.
