Bears | Tyler Wilson attending Bears camp    Tue Apr 21, 09:41 AM

Free-agent QB Tyler Wilson (Bengals) will attend the Chicago Bears' minicamp next week on a try-out basis.

Footballguys view: Wilson was reportedly impressive during the veteran combine earlier this year. He was a gunslinger at Arkansas but staying durable and passing accurately were always question marks. We'll see if he can impress the Bears enough to earn a spot as OTAs continue.

NFL | Tyler Wilson shows strong arm    Mon Mar 23, 05:25 PM

Free-agent QB Tyler Wilson (Bengals) showed off the strongest arm at the veteran combine over the weekend. Wilson said he's had 'a lot of contact with a number of teams.'

Footballguys view: Wilson flamed out in the NFL quickly. A fourth-round pick for the Raiders in the 2013 NFL draft, Wilson is a strong leader with the arm to make every throw in the NFL. Making those throws accurately is a question mark. We'll see if some team gives him at least a camp invite.

Bengals | Three cut    Fri Aug 29, 03:25 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals cut QB Tyler Wilson, DT LaKendrick Ross and LB Brandon Joiner Friday, Aug. 29.

Footballguys view: Wilson has now bounced to (and off of) three different teams in a little over a year. His pop-gun arm and moxie aren't enough to make it in the NFL.

Bengals | Tyler Wilson sits    Fri Aug 22, 03:39 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Tyler Wilson (head) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 22.

Footballguys view: Wilson is only a camp arm for the team. This head injury is not going to help his already small chances of making the final roster.

Bengals | Tyler Wilson not practicing    Thu Aug 21, 01:25 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Tyler Wilson (head) is not participating in practice Thursday, Aug. 21.

Footballguys view: Buried way back on the depth chart, it really doesn't matter as Wilson was a long shot to make the final roster even before the injury.

Cincinnati Bengals CB Darqueze Dennard (hip), RB Jeremy Hill (shoulder), LB Marquis Flowers (ankle), QB Tyler Wilson (head) and RB Jeremy Wright (hip) were injured during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16. Flowers was the only one of them who returned.

Bengals | Tyler Wilson gets reps in practice    Tue Aug 12, 07:56 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Tyler Wilson took snaps during practice Tuesday, Aug. 12, and he said he expects to play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16, against the New York Jets.

Footballguys view: Wilson has a lot of moxie, and he's fearless in the pocket. However, his arm strength is not the best and he makes a lot of careless decisions with the football. He's a longshot to make the roster, having already spent time with three different teams in two years.

Bengals | Sign Tyler Wilson    Sat Aug 9, 01:43 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals signed free-agent QB Tyler Wilson (Titans) Saturday, Aug. 9, to an undisclosed deal.

Footballguys view: Wilson has the tough but weak-armed game manager profile that multiple recent Bengals starters have had. This could be his last chance.

NFL | Two go unclaimed    Thu Aug 7, 05:50 PM

Free-agents QB Tyler Wilson (Titans) and WR Jonathan Baldwin (Lions) were unclaimed Thursday, Aug. 7, and are eligible to sign with any team.

Footballguys view: Baldwin has knee issues so nobody will touch him while Wilson has given being underwhelming a bad name. Our guess is Wilson heads to Canada and Baldwin to rehab.

Titans | Three moves made    Wed Aug 6, 10:24 AM

Tennessee Titans TE Dorin Dickerson (undisclosed) was placed on Injured Reserve. The team signed free-agent TE Chase Coffman (Falcons) to an undisclosed deal and waived QB Tyler Wilson.

Footballguys view: By all accounts, Wilson had looked terrible in training camp so far. The Titans will roll on with Jake Locker, Charlie Whitehurst and rookie Zach Mettenberger as their three quarterbacks. Coffman has battled many injuries during his pro career, but he's got a chance to make this roster with Dickerson shut down for the year.

The Tennessee Titans have declared OT David Stewart, DL Jurrell Casey, WR Kenny Britt, OL Kevin Matthews, CB Khalid Wooten, WR Michael Preston, QB Tyler Wilson inactive for Week 17.

Footballguys view: Britt's 2013 has been a disaster. He'll be an intriguing reclamation project on the free agent market this year. Casey has quietly been one of the elite defensive tackles in the NFL this year, so his loss will help the Texans offense.

Titans | Tyler Wilson added    Tue Dec 17, 12:00 AM

The Tennessee Titans signed free-agent QB Tyler Wilson (Raiders) Monday, Dec. 16, and he was signed to the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: Many teams poach other practice squads to get a player for the offseason workouts. Wilson failed to impress with the Raiders and was outplayed by undrafted free agent Matt McGloin. However, we still like his dynasty stock in super deep leagues. Wilson is worth taking a look at, especially in quarterback premium formats.

The Oakland Raiders have declared QB Tyler Wilson, WR Denarius Moore, RB Darren McFadden, SS Tyvon Branch, OG Lamar Mady, OT Menelik Watson and DE Jason Hunter inactive for Week 12's game against the Tennessee Titans.

Raiders | Tyler Wilson likely will be added to roster    Sat Nov 16, 11:06 AM

The Oakland Raiders likely will sign practice squad QB Tyler Wilson to their active roster because of the injury to QB Terrelle Pryor (knee).

Raiders | Terrelle Pryor has sprained knee    Mon Nov 11, 12:49 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor (knee) said he has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. 'I've got a sprained MCL. It just got worse during the week. So I was just trying to come out and play and try to help the team but just didn't feel well today,' he said. Pryor played with a brace on his knee in Week 10 against the New York Giants and said he couldn't push off his leg. He finished 11-for-26 for just 122 yards and an interception and fumble. He was sacked four times and ran for a career-low 19 yards. QB Matt McGloin is the only other quarterback on roster, with QB Tyler Wilson on the practice squad.

Footballguys view: This injury is slowing down Pryor on the field. He's struggled mightily as a passer over the last few weeks and may continue to struggle with this injury. Pryor isn't able to be an effective runner due to this injury either. He's now a low end QB2 for your fantasy team.

Raiders | Add Tyler Wilson to practice squad    Mon Sep 2, 07:05 PM

The Oakland Raiders signed QB Tyler Wilson to the practice squad Monday, Sept. 2. Wilson was cut by the team earlier in the week.

Footballguys view: Wilson failed to beat out UDFA Matt McGloin for the QB3 job behind Terrelle Pryor and Matt Flynn. He struggled with the mental side of the game in training camp. We'll see if Wilson can develop and get up to speed on the type of coverages he'll face as a pro. He has the arm strength and aggressive mindset to make it in the pros.

Raiders | Tyler Wilson cut    Sun Sep 1, 03:14 PM

The Oakland Raiders waived QB Tyler Wilson.

Footballguys view: Wilson should get claimed. The Raiders settled for Wilson after the Eagles traded up ahead of them to get Matt Barkley. He is a mentally tough quarterback with limited arm strength. Wilson had a very poor offseason and summer, and in reality is only a practice squad level player right now.

Raiders | Keeping four quarterbacks and two punters    Sun Sep 1, 03:45 AM

After the latest round of cuts took place Saturday, Aug. 31, the Oakland Raiders have four quarterbacks on the roster in QB's Matt Flynn, Terrelle Pryor, Tyler Wilson and Matt McGloin. The latter two are rookies. The team was also not ready to decide whether P Chris Kluwe or Marquette King would handle duties. Moves can still be made prior to the Sept. 8 opener.

Footballguys view: It was widely speculated that Wilson might be cut after he barely even saw the field in the preseason, but the Raiders haven't released him yet. Perhaps they still see the potential that made them spend a fourth-round pick on him just a few months ago. They could also be shopping him before attempting to slide Wilson threw to the practice squad.

Raiders | Tyler Wilson losing reps    Tue Aug 13, 11:07 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Tyler Wilson continues to lose snaps in practice to QB Matt McGloin, who is making a push for the third quarterback job behind QBs Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor. 'There's still just a little inconsistency as far as accuracy issues,' head coach Dennis Allen said. 'He had some issues (Friday) just understanding where the protection was coming from. He's a rookie. Like a lot of rookies, he still has a long way to go and Tyler's continuing to work, and I think it's a good competition we have there between him and McGloin.'

Footballguys view: This is not a good sign for Wilson. There are some who think the team will move on and wash their hands of this 2013 fourth-round pick. Wilson is a gunslinger and he will force passes and make bad decisions with the football.

Raiders | Matt McGloin pushing for No. 3 QB job    Sun Aug 4, 12:35 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Matt McGloin has been taking some reps away from QB Tyler Wilson because McGloin as performed well during training camp to this point. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson said it is a great competition for the No. 3 quarterback job but there is a long way to go.

Footballguys view: Tyler Wilson has lots of mental toughness and courage, but his arm strength is lacking, and apparently his practice performance is too. That he is embroiled in a battle with McGloin is a terrible sign of where Wilson is at in his development right now.

Raiders | Matt Flynn looking good in camp    Tue Jul 30, 06:24 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Flynn has been the most impressive of all three quarterbacks in training camp so far, outplaying QBs Terrelle Pryor and Tyler Wilson. Flynn has started only two games in five seasons in the NFL. Flynn has taken the majority of first-ream repetitions and is earning the trust of teammates with his play. 'It's kind of playing out about like I expected. Matt Flynn has been pretty consistent,' head coach Dennis Allen said. 'Those guys are doing exactly what we want them to do, keep competing and keep playing. Don't worry about the depth chart, just keep getting better.'

Footballguys view: Flynn is trying to hold off Pryor and Wilson for the starting job. He's not that interesting as a fantasy option in 2013 even if he does win the spot.

Raiders | Tyler Wilson has forgettable debut    Fri Jul 26, 09:50 PM

Oakland Raiders QB Tyler Wilson struggled in his first day of training camp Friday, July 26, tossing three interceptions in a four-pass span. However, Wilson did make nice throws during other portions of practice, and he showed nice zip on his passes.

Footballguys view: Welcome to the NFL rookie. Wilson is known as a gunslinger and is not afraid to challenge coverages with his arm. He'll obviously have to clean up his play if he wants to win the starting job. If Wilson doesn't win the job in camp then perhaps he could take over at some point during the season if Matt Flynn struggles.

Raiders | Sign Tyler Wilson    Tue Jul 23, 04:30 PM

The Oakland Raiders signed QB Tyler Wilson Tuesday, July 23. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Wilson was a favorite of both Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman during the pre-draft process. He's known for his toughness and ability to fit passes into tight windows. Wilson is a confident gunslinger who is not afraid to stand in the pocket and take a hit. He does need to work on his mechanics and footwork as a passer. That should help clean up his accuracy. If Matt Flynn struggles in camp or during the year then perhaps we could see Wilson take over as the starter for the Raiders.

Raiders | Flynn seen as 'stop gap guy'    Sat Jul 6, 06:39 PM

In an interview on 102.3 ESPN Bill Williamson, AFC West blogger from ESPN.com, said that Raiders QB Matt Flynn was seen as a 'stop gap guy.' Williamson also said the QB of the future may not be on the team's roster right now.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Flynn is competing with rookie Tyler Wilson (Arkansas) and Terrelle Pryor to be the team's starter in 2013. He could win the job during training camp but the team could have a short hook for Flynn if he struggles. Wilson was a favorite of both Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman and is an interesting player to monitor in dynasty leagues.

Raiders | Wanted Matt Barkley    Mon Jul 1, 01:27 PM

The Oakland Raiders reportedly were planning on selecting QB Matt Barkley in the fourth round before the Philadelphia Eagles scooped him up earlier in the round. QB Tyler Wilson was the team's 'fallback option.'

Footballguys view: There was wide speculation that the Eagles jumped up to ahead of the Raiders or Chiefs to get Barkley. Just like in a fantasy draft, it must be gratifying to find out that a trade up did indeed stop another team from taking the player you wanted.

Raiders | Ugly minicamp performance from QBs    Wed Jun 12, 08:19 PM

Oakland Raiders QBs Matt Flynn, Tyler Wilson, Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin didn't fare well at their minicamp Tuesday, June 11. Many of their throws were batted down at the line of scrimmage, landed behind and over receivers, and were generally off the mark. No option distinguished himself from the others.   Raiders | Rookie QB Wilson looking better than Flynn?    Tue May 28, 06:40 PM

Oakland Raiders rookie QB Tyler Wilson (Arkansas) has been looking good in recent OTAs and minicamp. In fact, there are several Oakland beat writer who believe he has looked better than veteran Matt Flynn.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Wilson was the top QB for both Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman this year. He's got a gunslinger mentality and is an aggressive passer who loves to challenge a defense vertically. We'll wait until training camp before getting too excited about him beating out Flynn for the starting job in week one. However, many feel Wilson is the QB of the future and could take over at some point during the regular season.

Raiders | Tyler Wilson could push up depth chart    Mon May 13, 08:55 AM

Oakland Raiders QB Tyler Wilson is 'miles ahead' of where recent Raiders quarterbacks arrived as draft picks. He could possibly climb to No. 2 on the depth chart before the season is over.

Footballguys view: This matches an earlier report from CSNBayArea.com. Wilson was the number one QB in this class for both Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman. He's a gunslinger who has the arm strength to make all the throws in the NFL. Wilson is a strong leader and can take a beating yet stay in and keep firing. He needs to clean up his footwork in order to improve his accuracy. It wouldn't surprise us to see him pass both Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor on the depth chart at some point this year.

Raiders | Expect Matt Flynn will start     Fri May 3, 09:34 AM

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie acknowledged QB Matt Flynn heads into offseason workouts as the 'presumed starter.' The Raiders are skeptical QB Terrelle Pryor is ready to truly push for the starting job, while QB Tyler Wilson will start out 'at the bottom until he can maneuver his way up by his play.'

Footballguys view: Flynn should be the starter to start the season. He's only started two games in his pro career and is a bit of an unknown commodity even though he's been in the league since 2008. Wilson is the QB of the future but may not see the field until next season if Flynn is effective.

Raiders | Tyler Wilson highly regarded    Wed May 1, 10:27 PM

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie likes the ability of QB Tyler Wilson to 'move around the pocket and toughness to hang in there and see the field.' Wilson isn't expected to initially compete for the starting job, or even the primary backup job to either QBs Matt Flynn or Terrelle Pryor, but he could eventually start at some point down the round. 'I want him to learn the playbook first,' McKenzie said, 'make sure he gets behind the center and not the guard.'

Footballguys view: Wilson was the number one QB in this class for both Cecil Lammey and Matt Waldman. He's got some Brett Favre to his game as Wilson is a gunslinger who isn't afraid to stand in and take a hit. Wilson loves to challenge defenses downfield but sometimes forces passes when he should check down. We'll see how quickly this talented rookie can compete for the starting job.

Footballguys view: Wilson would be a perfect fit for the Bills in the second-round. Some top name draftniks (Matt Waldman, Cecil Lammey) have Wilson as the number one QB in this draft class. He's tough, mobile, and isn't afraid to challenge a defense deep. That's exactly the type of QB Doug Marrone needs to run his downfield system.
