Texans | Sign WR Paul Williams, 3 others to future contracts    Tue Jan 4, 01:18 PM

Adam Caplan, from Fox Sports, reports the Houston Texans have signed WR Paul Williams, OT Cole Pemberton, C Cody Wallace and S Antonio Baker to future contracts.

Footballguys view: Williams is a big receiver who is very physical when going up for the football. Inconsistent hands have plagued his game since he came into the league a few years ago. His upside is fairly high if he could ever make good on his potential.

Rams | Worked out several players Wednesday    Thu Sep 9, 01:07 PM

The St. Louis Rams worked out free-agent SS Al Afalava (Bears) and WRs Derek Hagan (Giants), WR Jason Hill (49ers), WR Paul Williams (Titans) and WR Demetrius Williams (Ravens) Wednesday, Sept. 9, according to Jason La Canfora, of NFL Network. The team does not have plans to sign any of these players at this time.

Footballguys view: The Rams have one of the most inexperienced WR corps in the league and they're constantly on the lookout for players who can help at the position.

Titans | Kenny Britt struggles Thursday    Thu Sep 2, 10:08 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Kenny Britt struggled Thursday, Sept. 2, with one drop, another pass slipping through his hands and a false start penalty during the first half of the team's preseason finale, reports Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean. Head coach Jeff Fisher got in Britt's ear following the penalty. Britt did not play the rest of the first half and was replaced by WR Paul Williams.

Footballguys view: At this point, we're not even sure that Britt is worth a pick before the 12th round after a lot of us expected big things from him this year because it doesn't seem like he's going to break into the starting lineup any time soon.

Titans | Lavelle Hawkins, Paul Williams could be on bubble    Sat May 15, 08:25 PM

The Tennessee Titans may decide on releasing WR Lavelle Hawkins and WR Paul Williams if they fail to make progress during the offseason and training camp, reports Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean.

Footballguys view: The Titans added WR Damian Williams in the 2010 NFL Draft, and the move could push one or both receivers off the roster. Paul Williams has a good size/speed combination, but has not shown the ability to create separation against defensive backs. Lavelle Hawkins is very quick and has good run after the catch ability, but he struggles to get open against press coverage.

Titans | Seven signed to practice squad    Sun Sep 6, 04:13 PM

TitansOnline.com reports the Tennessee Titans have re-signed free agents OG Ryan Durand, RB Rodney Ferguson, DT Mitch King, WR Phillip Morris, S Nick Schommer, OL Fernando Velasco and WR Paul Williams to their practice squad.

Footballguys view: Williams is one of the many failed mid-round picks the team has used in an attempt to plug their hole at WR. He's got the physical talent to make it in the NFL, but he's never been able to be consistent enough to get extended playing time.

Titans | Edison catching everything thrown his way    Thu Aug 20, 11:50 AM

Jim Wyatt and Gary Estwick, from the Tennessean, report wide receiver Dominique Edison, a sixth-round selection, has caught nearly every ball thrown his way at training camp, putting pressure on the three players ahead of him -- Lavelle Hawkins, Chris Davis and Paul Williams. The mix of good hands and 4.36 speed has impressed offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger. "Dominique is one guy who's come out here every day and gotten better," Heimerdinger said. "You look for that in camp."

Footballguys view: He hasn't caught any passes in the first two preseason games, but he has been getting open according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Edison was second in the nation last year, with 18 TD catches at Stephen F. Austin, and the Titans would love to unlock that playmaking ability at the pro level. The Titans may be tempted to try and sneak him through to the practice squad, but would be in danger of losing him to another team.

Titans | Receivers on the bubble    Wed Aug 5, 12:26 AM

Gary Estwick, of The Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans WRs Chris C. Davis, Paul Williams (hamstring, groin) and Lavelle Hawkins need to pick up their game and continue showing improvement or they could be on the bubble with the team. Williams has been slowed by a hamstring injury, while Hawkins and Davis have looked better during training camp.

Footballguys view: All three have been disappointing mid-round picks who haven't played up to their potential.

Titans | Williams injured Tuesday    Tue Jun 23, 04:19 PM

Jim Wyatt, of The Nashville Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans WR Paul Williams (groin, ankle) suffered groin and ankle injuries during practice Tuesday, June 23. He likely will not practice until training camp starts.

Footballguys view: Williams was an intriguing prospect 3 years ago when he came out of Fresno State. Unfortunately he hasn't developed and is still as raw as he was during his rookie season. The Titans keep adding to their WR corps every year, and this may be Williams final shot with the team.
