Chiefs | KC parts with Mike Williams    Wed Aug 24, 10:23 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs released WR Mike Williams Wednesday, Aug. 24, the team confirmed.

Footballguys view: And that's a wrap (likely) for Williams' career in the NFL. He was trying to get things back on track with the Chiefs but didn't impress in camp or the preseason. We don't think many -- if any -- teams will be interested now that he's on the open market...again.

Chiefs | Signing Mike Williams    Mon Apr 25, 04:03 PM

Free-agent WR Mike Williams (Bills) is signing a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, April 25, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Williams is a big/physical receiver, but injuries and off-field problems have made him bounce around the league since coming into the NFL as a fourth-round pick in 2010. The Chiefs are one of the most WR-needy teams in the league, so Williams is worth watching if he can regain the form he showed earlier in his career.

Free-agent WR Mike Williams (Bills) worked out for the New England Patriots Wednesday, March 30.

Footballguys view: Williams hasn't proven his off-field issues are not going to interfere with his on-field production, but if you are going to turn it around, New England is the place to try.

Giants | Mike Williams tries out for Giants    Thu Oct 15, 09:05 AM

Free-agent WR Mike Williams (Bills) worked out for the New York Giants Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Footballguys view: From the realm of 'where are they now?' comes the exciting tail of Mike Williams and the Desperate Giants Passing Offense. If he was signed, we wouldn't expect a ton, as the Giants are mostly looking for warm bodies.

Bills | Mike Williams injured    Thu Dec 4, 02:17 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Mike Williams (calf) suffered a calf injury during practice Thursday, Dec. 4.

Footballguys view: Williams wasn't much help to begin with, so his absence in this weekend's game wouldn't be a tragedy. Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods are both worth a go. Watkins is a solid WR3 with upside but getting a lot of attention while Woods has been getting open a little bit more an seeing a bit more success and will dance around the same WR3 area.

Bills | Chris Hogan the No. 2 wideout    Fri Nov 14, 12:50 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Chris Hogan now has caught at least five passes in four of the team's last five games, and he has surpassed WRs Robert Woods and Mike Williams as the second option behind WR Sammy Watkins in the team's short passing game. Watkins was mostly a non-factor in Week 11 against Miami Dolphins CB Brent Grimes.

Footballguys view: Hogan has some marginal PPR value, and you could do worse than playing him as your flex against the Jets in Week 12, but as Watkins gets healthier, Hogan's target share should shrink.

Bills | Mike Williams starts    Fri Aug 8, 11:05 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Mike Williams started ahead of WR Robert Woods in the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers Friday, Aug. 8. Williams had one grab for 28 yards, while Woods led the team with four grabs and he posted 31 yards.

Footballguys view: Woods had terrific chemistry with EJ Manuel last year and appeared to be a big part of the team's future plans, but it appears that head coach Doug Marrone is falling back on his experience with Williams at Syracuse (even though it ended poorly) and preferring what Williams brings to the field with his size and play at the catch point. Neither is worth pursuing until the Bills offense starts to look better.

Bills | Mike Williams feeling good at start of camp    Sat Jul 19, 03:29 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Mike Williams said he felt good after participating in conditioning workouts on the first day of training camp Saturday, July 19. 'I'm fully ready to go,' Williams said. 'I trained this whole offseason. There was really no offseason for me. I kinda had to get my leg better. I had to get back to feeling like Mike again, like my mom always tells me. Today running that conditioning test made me feel like I was Mike again.'

Footballguys view: Williams had missed several spring practices to rest a surgically-repaired hamstring. The team will ease him in during training camp with the idea of having him near full strength for Week 1 of the regular season. Williams should start opposite rookie Sammy Watkins in 2014.

Bills | Mike Williams could be big factor in red zone    Mon Jul 14, 08:59 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Mike Williams could become one of the main weapons in the red zone for the team this season because of his physical style of play, according to ESPN.com's Mike Rodak. Last year, the Bills were one of just four teams to finish with a red zone touchdown efficiency of less than 50 percent.

Footballguys view: We're not expecting any "Star Wars" numbers from the Bills passing game, but this is something to keep an eye on in deeper leagues. Sammy Watkins should be the primary target for E.J. Manuel this year, but Williams will be their WR2 in 2014.

Bills | Several expected to compete for No. 3 WR job    Fri Jun 20, 07:58 PM

Buffalo Bills WRs Mike Williams, Chris Hogan, Marquise Goodwin and T.J. Graham are expected to compete for the No. 3 wide receiver job during training camp.

Footballguys view: We'll see if Williams or Robert Woods wins the WR2 job in camp. We like Woods on the outside more than Williams, but it has to shake out in the preseason. Goodwin has Olympic speed and would be a fine slot receiver if Williams fails to impress.

Bills | Mike Williams expected to be ready for camp    Thu Jun 19, 11:48 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Mike Williams (hamstring) said he is still recovering from hamstring surgery but expects to be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: At least he already knows the offense. Williams played under Bills head coach Doug Marrone during their days together at Syracuse. This is not the way Williams wanted to get things on track now that he's got a fresh start with the Bills. We'll see if he can get healthy, stay healthy and win the starting job opposite first-round pick Sammy Watkins.

Bills | Mike Williams not a lock to make team    Mon Jun 16, 01:50 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Mike Williams was a disappointment at organized team activities and may be on the bubble if he doesn't improve, according to a source. Buffalo will keep WRs Marquise Goodwin and Marcus Easley on the roster, so Williams will have to beat out WRs T.J. Graham and Chris Hogan to earn a spot.

Footballguys view: Very few players can be considered "locks", but don't be surprised if Williams makes the final roster. The plan is for him to start on the outside with rookie Sammy Watkins on the opposite side this year. Williams played in college at Syracuse under Bills head coach Doug Marrone.

Bills | Mike Williams enters intervention program    Thu May 29, 05:21 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Mike Williams will re-enter a pre-trial intervention program that will allow him to avoid two misdemeanor charges. Williams took part in organized team activities for a second straight day Thursday, May 29, as he's facing misdemeanor charges of trespassing and criminal mischief after he reportedly caused $200 in damage to his girlfriend's front door last year.

Footballguys view: Williams gets a second chance in the NFL with his former college coach at Syracuse, Doug Marrone. It's interesting to note that Marrone booted Williams off the football team during his last year in college. We'll see if Williams can stay focused on football and cut down on the off-field problems.

Bills | Sammy Watkins to contribute immediately    Fri May 9, 05:01 PM

The Buffalo Bills believe WR Sammy Watkins will contribute to their offense 'immediately,' and they view him among the likes of Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones and Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green. Watkins is expected to be the team's No. 1 wideout, followed by WR Robert Woods. After that, the team will find a way to fit WRs Mike Williams, Marquise Goodwin and T.J. Graham into the picture.

Footballguys view: With Stevie Johnson out, he will or EJ Manuel may be in trouble. This has the makings of a very talented offensive group. Watkins has huge upside but don't overvalue him, as we still don't know what Manuel will do and he could hold Watkins' numbers down.

Bills | Have been shopping Stevie Johnson    Fri May 9, 03:19 PM

Updating a previous report, the Buffalo Bills had been shopping WR Stevie Johnson for a while prior to trading him to the San Francisco 49ers. The Bills tried to include him in a trade to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as part of the trade for WR Mike Williams.

Footballguys view: Once Sammy Watkins was in the house, the writing was on the wall for the Bills and Johnson. Still, they will eat ten million even if they don't have the contract length anymore. With Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin behind Watkins, the passing attack can still be very potent.

Buccaneers | Likely would have cut Mike Williams    Fri Apr 4, 11:40 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers likely would have released WR Mike Williams this weekend if they were not able to trade him to the Buffalo Bills.

Footballguys view: Teams first look to trade a player before he's outright released. Williams needed a fresh start, and is reunited with his former college coach Doug Marrone.

Bills | T.J. Graham on roster bubble    Fri Apr 4, 01:21 PM

Buffalo Bills WR T.J. Graham is firmly on the roster bubble after the team traded for WR Mike Williams. Graham started in only six games last year and is more of a one-dimensional player due to his speed.

Footballguys view: Graham's speed would make him an intriguing addition if Buffalo lets him go. He's never developed his route-running as a pro, but he's still young enough for some team to take a chance on him. By adding Williams the Bills are now likely out of the market for a wide receiver early in the draft. Tear up any mock drafts that have them selecting Mike Evans (Texas A&M) and Sammy Watkins (Clemson) with the ninth-overall pick.

Buccaneers | Mike Williams traded    Fri Apr 4, 11:57 AM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded WR Mike Williams to the Buffalo Bills Friday, April 4, in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in this year's draft.

Footballguys view: Williams needed a fresh start as he'd worn out his welcome in Tampa. This is a deep wide receiver class in the draft, so the Bucs could add another weapon in the first three rounds.

Bills | Trade for Mike Williams    Fri Apr 4, 11:51 AM

The Buffalo Bills acquired WR Mike Williams from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, April 4, in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick, according to a league source. Williams suffered injuries last year that left him with only 22 catches (a career low) for 216 yards in six games.

Footballguys view: Williams reunites with his college coach Doug Marrone, and gets to go back to his hometown of Buffalo. He'll compete with Robert Woods and Stevie Johnson for targets in the Bills offense. Williams needed a fresh start after wearing out his welcome in Tampa. This addition puts another weapon around young quarterback E.J. Manuel.

Buccaneers | Case against Mike Williams closed    Thu Mar 27, 01:54 PM

The misdemeanor trespassing case against Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Williams was closed Thursday, March 27, pending his completion of misdemeanor intervention program. Williams is looking to complete the terms of the program before the start of the 2014 season.

Footballguys view: Williams has not had a good offseason, though this is a good piece of news. There has been noise that the team is thinking of moving him, but it's hard to say how serious that is. Williams is incredibly talented but has clearly been having issues off the field and needs to get himself straight before he blows up his career.

Buccaneers | Mike Williams accumulates fines    Thu Jan 30, 09:59 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Williams accumulated more than $200,000 in fines for being late to mandatory meetings or missing meetings and scheduled rehab days for his torn hamstring in 2013. Williams' partying has also become a concern for the team.

Footballguys view: This is a newer story, perhaps lost in the chaos of the end of the Greg Schiano adventure. Since this was allegedly a concern about Josh Freeman (the missed meetings not the partying), it's interesting to see it isn't the isolated Freeman-centric issue the team made it out to be.
