Packers | Backfield committee for Green Bay?    Wed Feb 27, 02:22 PM

Green Bay Packers RBs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are expected to be utilized in a committee approach, according to new head coach Matt LaFleur. LaFleur said the running back position is one of the more violent positions in the league considering the punishment absorbed.

Footballguys view: Here we go again with LaFleur. Last year with the Titans as their OC, LaFleur used both Dion Lewis and Derrick Henry to begin the season. Later in the year he did feature Henry as the lead back with great success. The Packers don't have anyone like Henry on the roster, so this could be RBBC for the entirety of the 2019 season so long as everyone stays healthy.

Packers | Disappointing day for Jamaal Williams    Sun Dec 30, 05:37 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams ran eight times for just four yards in Week 17 against the Detroit Lions while adding three grabs for 16 yards.

Footballguys view: Williams had been a good fantasy play since Aaron Jones went down, but he did very little in this one that was marred by an Aaron Rodgers concussion. He'll go back to backup status next year.

Packers | Jamaal Williams runs for 55 yards, TD    Sun Dec 16, 06:20 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams rushed 12 times for 55 yards and a touchdown in Week 15 against the Chicago Packers and he hauled in four receptions for 42 yards on five targets.

Footballguys view: Williams wasn't in any lineups, but he got an opportunity after Aaron Jones left with a knee injury. Jones is unlikely to go next week which makes Williams a pickup in leagues that still have open waiver wires and an RB2 against the Jets.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams opened the game as the starter in Week 14 on Sunday, Dec. 9.

Footballguys view: There's nothing disciplinary or otherwise floated as a reason for this move. Maybe it can get worse than Mike McCarthy in Green Bay.

Packers | Jamaal Williams to become third-down back?    Wed Oct 31, 02:29 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams is likely to get 'most' of the third-down work, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tom Silverstein, who indicated RB Aaron Jones should receive the majority of the early-down touches.

Footballguys view: It's interesting to have a power back like Williams in on third downs. In seven games this year, Williams has been targeted 17 times and has only eight catches. Jones is arguably a better receiving back and in five games this year he has been targeted eight times and has six catches. It will be interesting to see who gets the most work as a receiver out of the backfield now that Ty Montgomery has been traded to the Ravens.

Packers | Aaron Jones won't start right away    Wed Sep 19, 01:21 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones will play behind RBs Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery in his return from a two-game suspension, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Footballguys view: Jones is going to get eased back into the mix...at least that's what reporters around the team are speculating. That means Jamaal Williams should be the lead ball carrier for the Packers again this week. They travel to play Washington on Sunday and we see Williams as a RB3 for Fantasy GMs.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams rushed 16 times for 59 yards in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings and he added three catches for 12 yards on four targets.

Footballguys view: Williams has been serviceable, but did nothing to keep Aaron Jones out of the backfield picture when he returns next week. He'll be a low-end flex play at best against Washington.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams (ankle) was spotted in pads and cleared to participate in practice Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Footballguys view: Williams is in the competition to be the Packers starting back. He's the most powerful runner on the roster, while guys like Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones are better receivers and more explosive. Fantasy GMs are throwing darts when it comes to Packers backs with Williams (RB37, 8.02), Jones (RB40, 8.12) and Montgomery (RB43, 9.08) at this time.

Packers | Jamaal Williams injury update    Fri Aug 17, 01:25 AM

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams (ankle) told reporters he could not definitively say whether he could have returned to the game after suffering an ankle injury versus the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, Aug. 16. However, he was not concerned about the injury being a long-term issue, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

Footballguys view: We'll see if Williams is ready for the third preseason game, but all reports are that he is fine and this is not a significant injury. The Packers could hold him out to make sure he's as healthy as possible for the opener against the Bears. The possibility of more work for Ty Montgomery to open the season just went up.

Packers | Green Bay to use committee at RB    Mon Jun 18, 01:25 PM

Green Bay Packers RBs Ty Montgomery, Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones will be part of a committee at running back this upcoming season, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy said the team will be able to adjust if one of the running backs shows they can be the full-time starter.

Footballguys view: This sounds about right. We should see Williams as the primary banger for the Packers offense as he can grind down opponents with multiple carries. Montgomery can be utilized effectively as a receiving back who could thrive if/when the Packers use a fast break offense. Jones is a good all-around back who might get a few touches here and there. Fantasy owners are currently taking Williams at RB45 (10.03) and Montgomery at RB42 (9.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Packers | Ty Montgomery to have big role?    Mon Jun 11, 04:06 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery seems to be set for a big role in 2018, according to ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky. Head coach Mike McCarthy said the offense is suited for Montgomery's skill set and the Packers need to take advantage of that. Nevertheless, McCarthy admitted that he will continue to take a committee approach with the backfield with RBs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams included.

Footballguys view: Williams could be the lead back for the Packers, mostly because of his size and ability to grind opponents down. Montgomery, a converted wide receiver, could get work as a pass-catching back and could get plenty of work when the Packers use a 'fast break' offense. Both ADPs for Williams and Montgomery are close at this time. Williams is going off the board at RB42 (9.06) and Montgomery at RB45 (10.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Packers | Jamaal Williams wants to be more explosive    Tue Jan 23, 03:05 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams is focusing on improving his explosiveness this offseason. Williams wants to have quicker feet, more speed and to make sure his knees are up. He added that he'll be working on his lateral movements and speed in order to make sure his knees are up and that his lower body is stronger.

Footballguys view: Williams is a big back, and he does a good job of keeping his feet after contact...but nobody is calling him an explosive player. That could change as he reshapes his body and his preparation for the league. Even with Ty Montgomery splitting time in the backfield (for one more year), Williams is a dynasty asset we love.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams conceded that in his exit interviews with head coach Mike McCarthy and running backs coach Ben Sirmans, 'We were just in agreement that I've got to get my feet quicker and just get a little more speed happening and make sure that my knees are up. So, I'm just going to be working on my lateral movements, speed, make sure I get my knees up, make sure my lower body's a lot stronger.'

Packers | Jamaal Williams likely for bulk of work    Wed Dec 27, 05:42 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams is likely to handle a bulk of the workload in Week 17 against the Detroit Lions with RB Aaron Jones (knee) unlikely to play.

Footballguys view: Williams should get to grind against the Lions in the season finale. The rookie can get stronger as the game goes on, and he fights for every yard on every carry. His ability and role makes him a RB2 option for fantasy owners in Week 17.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams rushed 10 times for 30 yards in the Week 15 game against the Carolina Panthers. He did not have any receptions or targets.

Footballguys view: Williams wasn't involved as a receiver like he was with Brett Hundley, and the Panthers run defense can be very difficult to crack. Williams will just be a low ceiling flex option next week against Minnesota.

Packers | Jamaal Williams the main man in Green Bay    Sat Dec 16, 01:01 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams is the team's 'workhorse running back,' even with fellow rookie Aaron Jones completely healthy, according to ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky.

Footballguys view: Williams will get most of the work on the ground, and things could be more opened up with QB Aaron Rodgers back in action this week. It's a tough matchup against the Panthers in Week 15, but Williams could perform like a high-end RB2 because of a potentially large workload.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams rushed 15 times for 49 yards and a touchdown in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns and he added seven catches for 69 yards and a score on seven targets.

Footballguys view: The Packers did not go back to a committee in the backfield with a healthy Aaron Jones and Williams was up to the task. He's an RB1 even in a tough matchup against the Panthers next week, assuming Aaron Rodgers can return to the lineup.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams rushed 21 times for 113 yards and a touchdown in Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he added two gabs for 10 yards on three targets.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams views himself as a 'workhorse' because of his downhill style. 'I really just try to be consistent and the way I run the ball, make sure defenders know every time they try to tackle me it's going to be a hard tackle,' Williams said.

Footballguys view: Even with Aaron Jones back this week, Williams should be considered a solid RB2 play with RB1 upside in a matchup the Packers should win at home this week.

Packers | Jamaal Williams earning reps    Thu Nov 30, 10:07 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams is the type of back who becomes stronger later in games, according to running backs coach Ben Sirmans, and Sirmans said Williams 'deserves' carries even after RB Aaron Jones (ankle) returns.

Footballguys view: It sounds like the Packers will employ a committee when Jones is ready to play, which could be as early as this weekend. The matchup is good against the Bucs this week, and Williams should still dominate touches in the first game back, but next week will be tougher to project.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams rushed for 57 yards on 18 carries against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11. He also caught four passes for 38 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Williams ran hard and finished his runs well, but there just wasn't much there against the Ravens. He still posted RB2 numbers on a feature back workload and Devante Mays fumbled on his first touch to dispel any possibility that he would threaten Williams' role as the starter. Williams will be an RB2/Flex consideration against the Steelers next week.

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams rushed 20 times for 67 yards in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears and he added a seven-yard reception.

Footballguys view: Williams looked solid, and ran strong, but struggled behind a banged up offensive line. With Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones potentially sidelined, Williams could see a lot of work, though the offense is bad enough to where our expectations for production are middling.

Footballguys view: The Packers RB situation is up in the air as Ty Montgomery is dealing with a ribs injury and Williams is dealing with this knee sprain.
