Jets | Have cut 15 players Fri Sep 2, 01:52 PM
The New York Jets have released QB Drew Willy, RB Chris Jennings, WRs Dan DePalma and Mike Campbell, TE Keith Zinger, OLs Dennis Landolt, Nevin McCaskill, Peter Clifford and Zane Taylor, DE Lorenzo Washington, LBs Eddie Jones, Joey LaRocque and Brashton Satele, S Davon Morgan and S Byron Landor.
Footballguys view: Jennings was a fantasy-relevant RB for a few weeks during his stint with the Browns, but he has failed to stick anywhere since Jerome Harrison overshadowed him in a big way. |

Drew Willy player pageColts | Painter the backup to Manning...for now Sun May 16, 11:38 AM
Mike Chappell, from the Indianapolis Star, notes that as of right now, Manning's backup is Curtis Painter. Willy is the No. 3 guy with Tim Hiller, an undrafted rookie out of Western Michigan sitting at No. 4. That's all subject to change as the offseason unfolds and training camp opens. It's everyone's hope that Painter makes noticeable progress in his second season. There's no question he did little to inspire optimism as a rookie. The team put him in two difficult situations - against the Jets and in snowy Buffalo - and he did not respond very well. There's always a chance the team will sign a veteran QB prior to training camp, but that seldom has been the case.
Footballguys view: Drew Willy and Tim Hiller are unlikely to beat out Painter for the #2 job, so the Colts will just have to hope that Peyton Manning continues to stay healthy all season long. Painter can be a capable backup, but he does not handle pressure well and will force the football too often when the heat is on. |

Colts | Six signed to future contracts Mon Feb 15, 04:17 PM
Adam Caplan, of Scout.com, reports the Indianapolis Colts have signed QB Drew Willy, WR Taj Smith, WR John Matthews, OG Jaimie Thomas, LB Brandon Renkart and CB Terrail Lambert to future contracts. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. All six finished the season on the Colts practice squad.
Footballguys view: Drew Willy is an intriguing developmental project for the Colts. He loves to throw deep, and will continue to fire down field and challenge the edges of the defense. John Matthews is a very good route runner, and has very strong hands. He's not the fastest, or the quickest wide receiver, but could provide quality depth on one of the best passing offenses in the league. |

The Indianapolis Colts have declared OL Charlie Johnson, LB Clint Session, QB Drew Willy, CB Jerraud Powers, DL Keyunta Dawson, PK Matt Stover, WR Pierre Garcon, DL Robert Mathis inactive for Week 16.
Footballguys view: None of the Colts are safe plays this week, as the team is clearly leaning toward resting players where possible. |

Colts | Willy signed to active roster Sat Dec 26, 06:08 PM
Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the Indianapolis Colts have signed practice squad QB Drew Willy to their active roster. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: This could signal that Peyton Manning will leave the game early on Sunday. Rookie Curtis Painter is the backup behind Manning, and now Willy will be the third string quarterback. We saw both Painter and Willy in El Paso at the Texas vs The Nation practices in January. Painter is a smart quarterback that sees the field well, and can make most any NFL throw. Willy is a stereotypical gunslinger who stands strong in the face of the rush and will continue to fire downfield in order to make a play. |

Colts | Willy signed to practice squad Wed Dec 9, 12:19 PM
The Indianapolis Colts announced Wednesday, Dec. 9, that they have signed free-agent QB Drew Willy (Ravens) to their practice squad.
Footballguys view: Willy was a gunslinger during his career in college at Buffalo. We saw him at the Texas Vs The Nation Game earlier this year, and were impressed by some things we saw in practice. Willy is not afraid to the throw the ball deep, and has the ability to drop passes "in the bucket." However, his downfield accuracy gets erratic when asked to throw on the run and he lacks touch on his underneath routes. He's a developmental quarterback, but one who's on one of the best passing teams in the NFL. |

Ravens | Sign QB Drew Willy Sat Aug 15, 01:09 PM
MASNsports.com is reporting the Ravens have signed undrafted free agent Drew Willy to a contract.
Footballguys view: Drew Willy was with the team during OTAs, and the team is looking for a camp arm while #3 QB John Beck is injured. Willy is a long shot to make the final roster, but could sneak in on the practice squad if he impresses in camp. He is not afraid to challenge a defense deep, and throws with a ton of velocity. Willy needs to develop a better short passing game if he wants to make it in the NFL. |

Ravens | Willy, Vasquez released Fri Jun 19, 01:41 PM
Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports the Baltimore Ravens have released QB Drew Willy and LB Luis Vasquez.
Footballguys view: Drew Willy is not afraid to challenge defenses with deep passes, but scouts have been concerned about his tendency to force big plays. He is a project QB that may have a hard time catching on with another team. |

Ravens | Willy agrees to terms Sun Apr 26, 08:56 PM
Ed Thompson, of Scout.com, reports undrafted rookie free-agent QB Drew Willy (Buffalo) has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens, according to a source. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Drew Willy player pageNFL | Several teams interested in Willy Thu Apr 23, 04:30 PM
Ed Thompson, of Scout.com, reports the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers did some board work with University of Buffalo QB Drew Willy at his Pro Day to gain insight on his level of football knowledge and decision-making skills. Other teams interested in Willy include the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles.
Footballguys view: Drew Willy might go undrafted, but he's sure to get picked up as a Priority Free Agent. He is not afraid to air out the ball and challenge the deep edges of the defense. He is known as a leader on the field, and his aggressive play rallies the teammates around him. If Willy is given time as a developmental QB, then his team will be rewarded for their patience. |
