Chargers | Andre Williams added to roster    Sat Oct 7, 04:14 PM

Los Angeles Chargers practice squad RB Andre Williams was signed to the active roster Saturday, Oct. 7. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived FS Dexter McCoil.

Footballguys view: With Brandon Oliver (hamstring) ruled out for the game against the Giants on Sunday, the Chargers needed another body at the position. Williams is a big back (230 pounds) but doesn't run with the power one would assume for such a large man. We should see Melvin Gordon bounce back this week against a Giants rush defense that allows over 142 rushing yards per game on average. Behind Gordon, rookie Austin Ekeler will get touches as a change-of-pace back.

Chargers | Two more added to Chargers practice squad    Sun Sep 3, 07:15 PM

The Los Angeles Chargers signed WR Andre Patton and RB Andre Williams to their practice squad Sunday, Sept. 3.

Footballguys view: Williams status has dimmed greatly since being a fourth-round pick of the Giants, but if Melvin Gordon goes down this year, he would likely be promoted and get some early down carries.

Chargers | Andre Williams could be main RB backup    Wed May 3, 02:45 PM

Los Angeles Chargers RB Andre Williams is expected to be given the opportunity to earn the role as the main backup to RB Melvin Gordon on first and second downs in 2017.

Footballguys view: Williams is big but not as physical as his size (6'0" 230 pounds) would indicate. He was on the Chargers practice squad for most of last year, but he did get to see the field in Week 17. In that game, Williams had 87 rushing yards on 18 carries. In deep fantasy leagues where you can handcuff your top RBs, Williams is the name to target if you're invested in Melvin Gordon.

Chargers | Two Chargers sign tenders    Mon Apr 3, 11:55 PM

Los Angeles Chargers RB Andre Williams and WR Isaiah Burse signed their exclusive-rights tenders Monday, April 3.

Chargers | Chargers re-sign Andre Williams    Thu Mar 9, 08:33 PM

Chargers | Andre Williams will be active    Sat Dec 31, 02:34 PM

San Diego Chargers RB Andre Williams will be active for the team's Week 17 game and will serve as the backup running back.

Chargers | Andre Williams promoted     Tue Dec 27, 01:01 PM

Chargers | San Diego adds Andre Williams    Sun Sep 4, 01:10 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams was claimed off waivers by the San Diego Chargers Sunday, Sept. 4.

Footballguys view: Williams gives them some size in the backfield they just don't have currently. Neither Melvin Gordon or Danny Woodhead run with authority between the tackles. UDFA rookie Kenneth Farrow does have some power, but he only checks in around 215 pounds. Williams is a big back, but he has yet to run with proper power for a man his size. We're not counting on Williams to ever make much of an impact in the NFL.

Giants | Andre Williams no longer in NYG's plans    Sat Sep 3, 05:39 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams was released Saturday, Sept. 3.

Footballguys view: Williams is a big back who never ran with proper authority for a player his size. He's not much of a receiver out of the backfield either. With the market flooding with RBs we're not sure Williams is going to get a lot of looks. However, there should be a new home for him eventually.

Giants | Andre Williams sees first-team reps    Wed Aug 10, 10:04 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams saw first-team reps in practice Wednesday, Aug. 10. Beat writer Jordan Raanan said Williams is in the lead for the No. 2 job behind RB Rashad Jennings.

Footballguys view: Somehow Williams continues to get play even though he is one of the worst backs in the league when he has gotten touches in recent years. Fifth-round pick Paul Perkins and north-south runner Orleans Darkwa aren't doing much if they aren't in a position to overtake Williams.

Giants | Andre Williams on the hot seat    Mon Jul 25, 08:41 AM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams likely needs a stellar training camp to avoid being cut, in the opinion of SNY's John Fennelly.

Footballguys view: Williams is far from a sure thing to make the 53-man roster. He's a big back who is not as powerful as a player his size should be. Williams doesn't literally have frying pans for hands, but he's not what you would call a great receiver either. The Giants RB situation is messy, but they have some talent assembled with starter Rashad Jennings and backup Shane Vereen. We like rookie Paul Perkins too. Williams may be on the outside looking in without a standout camp.

Giants | Andre Williams drawing praise from coach    Sat Jul 23, 05:30 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams is poised for a bounce-back year in the opinion of head coach Ben McAdoo.

Footballguys view: We doubt that happens. Williams is a large RB but he lacks the power he should have for a player his size. The Giants RB situation is a mess, but starter Rashad Jennings could perform like a RB3 (at least) for fantasy owners.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa playing catch-up    Tue Jun 28, 10:21 PM

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa (leg) missed the entire spring practice sessions due to a lower leg injury, and that set him back in the pecking order among the team's tailbacks. He is expected to battle RB Andre Williams for the No. 3 job, while RB Bobby Rainey is also in the mix. The team invested a fifth round pick on RB Paul Perkins, so he is expected to make the team, too.

Footballguys view: It's likely to come down to Darkwa vs Williams for a roster spot...and we'd take Darkwa 10 times out of 10. He's a patient runner who could get on the field for the Giants they get inside the 20-yard line. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the Giants backfield as it's a bit of a mess, but make sure to keep Darkwa on the waiver-wire speed dial just in case.

Giants | Andre Williams fighting for spot?    Tue Jun 28, 04:35 PM

New York Giants RBs Andre Williams and Orleans Darkwa are likely competing with each other for a roster spot, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.

Footballguys view: The Giants backfield is a bit of a mess right now. Rashad Jennings should be the starter, but he should split time with Shane Vereen. Rookie Paul Perkins has a bit of Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) to his game and might find his way onto the field as a change-of-pace back. Williams is a two-down back with build-up power and he's not as sure in short-yardage situations as he needs to be. We'll be watching this entire RB corps closely during camp, but Williams is only relevant for dynasty owners at this time.

Giants | Andre Williams quicker during OTAs    Sun Jun 12, 09:49 AM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams appeared quicker and more fluid after transforming his body in the offseason, and he caught the ball out of the backfield well, according to NJ.com's James Kratch.

Footballguys view: The Giants have a clogged RB corps, and we're not sure the role that Williams is going to play in 2016. Rashad Jennings should be the primary back with Shane Vereen playing a change-of-pace role. Williams would be behind those two, and perhaps even rookie Paul Perkins would work into the mix more. Dynasty wise, this is good news but most re-draft owners won't be adding Williams to the roster.

Giants | Minimal impact from Paul Perkins?    Thu May 12, 05:05 PM

New York Giants rookie RB Paul Perkins isn't expected to have much of an impact in his rookie season, in the opinion of Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Vacchiano anticipates RB Andre Williams to have the first shot at being the short-yardage running back and Jennings' backup, with RB Shane Vereen reprising his pass-catching and third-down role.

Footballguys view: Andre Williams has been sub-impressive so far, so we're not holding our breath. In fact, nobody in this backfield should feel good about their job security. There wasn't a 1000 yard back in the group last season either meaning, again, assume nothing. Perkins won't be someone to plug in early, but he's someone who could get opportunity later in the season.

Giants | Andre Williams still a Giant    Wed Mar 23, 04:12 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams won't be outworked by anyone, according to head coach Ben McAdoo, who said not to give up on the running back.

Footballguys view: Williams' work ethic hasn't translated to production, and we don't expect it to at this juncture. Ezekiel Elliott could be in play at #10 with the Giants long-term hole at running back. Rashad Jennings is at least serviceable, but his career is winding down.

Giants | Andrew Williams could be released    Thu Feb 25, 07:21 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams isn't versatile enough in today's NFL and could be released this offseason. Former head coach Tom Coughlin had a soft spot for Williams.

Footballguys view: Williams has been unimpressive in his first two years with the Giants, and being a one-dimensional back who is lackluster in that one dimension is a good way to end up unemployed. We won't be shocked when this happens.

Giants | Andre Williams the odd man out?    Sat Oct 31, 08:10 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams is the most likely running back to lose touches to RB Orleans Darkwa going forward, but Jordan Raanan of NJ.com believes, the Giants will use a four-back rotation against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8.

Footballguys view: Williams has gotten tons of opportunities and done nothing with them. He might not be on the team next year.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa turning heads    Wed Oct 28, 11:54 PM

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa scored the team's only offensive touchdown in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, and he likely earned more playing time at the expense of RBs Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. 'He certainly did look good out there,' head coach Tom Coughlin said after the win. 'His touchdown run when he cut back behind the slanting defensive line was really quite an outstanding play.'

Footballguys view: We won't get too hype on him quite yet but there are a few things to consider. One, if you're in a dynasty league it's worth adding him to the roster. Two,if you are in a deep redraft league it might be worth to add him and see what happens. In a huge pinch you can throw him in as a what the heck flex (he's a RB5 at best against New Orleans) but he's an exceedingly risky one until we know more.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa to see more touches?    Mon Oct 26, 12:51 PM

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa had played on just two offensive snaps heading into Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, but he was the leading rusher in the preseason by averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo was non-committal if Darkwa would see more work behind RBs Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Andre Williams.

Footballguys view: What's better than a three-headed RBBC? Why a four-headed RBBC of course! Darkwa has been everything the Giants thought Williams would be. We'll be adding him in deeper leagues just in case he emerges from this pack of mediocre (Jennings), misused (Vereen) and bad (Williams) backs.

Giants | Andre Williams doesn't do much    Sun Oct 4, 07:43 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams carried 11 times for just 35 yards in the Week 4 game against the Buffalo Bills. He did not have any receptions, although he was targeted once.

Footballguys view: There were murmurs of Williams becoming more of a lead back in this game, but it did not come to pass. Neither of Williams talent and the Giants ability to run the ball are good enough to make this situation worth monitoring closely.

Giants | Tough sledding for Andre Williams     Fri Sep 25, 12:25 AM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams had 14 carries for 29 yards and a touchdown in a 32-21 win over the Washington Redskins in Week 3.

Footballguys view: Williams isn't nimble enough to find room behind this leaky line. He might collect short yardage touchdowns, but there is little chance Williams becomes a consistent fantasy producer this year.

Giants | Andre Williams leads backfield    Sun Sep 20, 08:04 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams had six carries for a team-high 43 yards in a 24-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2.

Footballguys view: Rashad Jennings was a dud, but so was Williams on all but one of his carries. The reality is that the Giants offense is not going to produce good fantasy value at running back this year.

Giants | Andre Williams could move up    Tue Aug 25, 12:20 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams could overtake RB Rashad Jennings as the lead back sometime this season, maybe even to open the season. Williams has worked on his receiving game this offseason and studied Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's patience with the ball.

Footballguys view: We're not sold on the idea of Williams taking over for Jennings. The Giants want to use a fast-paced offense, and Williams just isn't that type of back. He's a two-down banger who is limited as a receiver. We like Jennings and Shane Vereen a lot more than Williams in this backfield.

Giants | Andre Williams working with first-team    Sat Aug 8, 09:12 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams has been receiving a majority of the reps with the first-team offense during practice.

Footballguys view: The Giants have been splitting first-team RB reps all during training camp. Williams is a big bruiser, but he lacks the receiving ability to be a full-time back. We like Rashad Jennings and Shane Vereen a lot more in this backfield.

Giants | RB roles TBD for Giants    Fri Jul 17, 06:26 PM

New York Giants RBs Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Andre Williams will use training camp to determine their roles in the offense, according to running backs coach Craig Johnson. 'I think that as we get closer to games and time for the opener, we will find out more role defining roles for them,' Johnson said. 'Right now, I try to put them in every situation so I can see what they can do. I try not to say, for instance, 'Shane is only going to run the ball.' I want to see if Shane can catch the ball. I know he can, but I want to see if he can under pressure situations and vice versa. I do that for all of our guys because that way you can kind of find out what they all can do.'

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners stay tuned here. Jennings should be the top back, and he's got an all-purpose skill set to play on all three downs. However, Vereen is too good to keep off the field in a part-time role. He could get quite a few targets as a receiver out of the backfield. Williams is a two-down hammer with a nose for the end zone who could steal away some carries near pay dirt.

Giants | Andre Williams struggled to gain yards    Fri Jul 17, 05:48 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams gained two or fewer yards in over half of his rushing attempts last season and 23.6% of his carries went for zero yards or negative yards, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Williams did average 3.1 yards per carry after he was contacted behind the line of scrimmage, which was fourth best in the NFL. The second-year back has a limited skill set and is no better than third on the depth chart right now.

Giants | Andre Williams likely to see larger role    Sat Feb 7, 07:24 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams will likely see a larger role in the offense in 2015.

Giants | Andre Williams expected to play    Sat Dec 27, 12:21 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams (shoulder) is expected to play in Week 17 even though he is listed as questionable.

Footballguys view: We think Rashad Jennings will play, and have him as an RB3 which impacts Williams' upside. We have Williams as an RB5/RB6 this week against an Eagles team which is desperate to go out on a good note, even if they are deflated because they flamed out and missed the playoffs.

Giants | Andre Williams goes off in win    Sun Dec 7, 11:27 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams rushed for a season-high 131 yards in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans, including a 50-yard touchdown scamper.

Footballguys view: Williams didn't do much early in this game, but as the Giants pulled away, he started to ramp up in the second half. Rashad Jennings will likely be healthier against the tougher run defense, so a lucky start of Williams this week was probably your one chance to catch this production.

Giants | Andre Williams to continue to share    Fri Nov 7, 10:41 AM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams is expected to continue to lose carries to RBs Peyton Hillis and Michael Cox.

Giants | Peyton Hillis favored on passing downs    Thu Oct 16, 02:18 PM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis played 31 snaps in the team's Week 6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles because the coaching staff doesn't yet trust RB Andre Williams on passing downs. Williams and Hillis are expected to share the workload in the backfield without RB Rashad Jennings (knee) again in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: Williams is not a good pass blocker and that's all there is to it. That's why the team missed Rashad Jennings so much--he allows them to have more versatility. We still see Williams as a decent RB2 as he'll get most of the carries, but if the Cowboys get an early lead and the Giants have to throw, Williams will be on the sideline anytime the team needs to pass and that will limit his upside.
