Jaguars | Wilford beefs up Sun Apr 4, 03:49 PM
JagNation.com reports they say you can never go home again. Jaguars' tight end Ernest Wilford is proof that the old adage doesn't always apply, even if he played a different position in his first incarnation with the team. Wilford is determined to become a success at the tight end spot. "I'm at 240 pounds right now which is what I want to play at this season. I thought I did a good job blocking for my first year at playing at tight end," he said. "But there's always room for improvement and that's what my focus will be on this year. I want to do a really good job at the initial point of contact with my blocks. "I've got so much power in my strike and yet I feel I've got really great speed to play tight end. I want to be in the mix where I can do a little bit of everything, almost like a Shannon Sharpe type of player."
Footballguys view: Wilford is a savvy veteran, and will compete for playing time with Marcedes Lewis and Zach Miller. |

Jaguars | Miller, Wilford working on blocking Fri Oct 9, 12:37 PM
Vito Stellino, of The Florida Union-Tribune, reports Jacksonville Jaguars tight ends coach Mike Tice has been working with TEs Zach X. Miller and Ernest Wilford on their blocking skills because Tice does not want opposing teams to think the Jaguars will automatically pass when they are in the game.
Footballguys view: Miller is a converted quarterback that has been playing tight end for less than one year. Wilford is a converted receiver, that is now making his way as a tight end during his second stint with the Jaguars. |

Jaguars | Wilford signed Tue Aug 25, 01:52 PM
The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed free-agent TE Ernest Wilford (Dolphins). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Wilford returns to the Jaguars after a disappointing season with the Dolphins last year. However, he comes back with the intention of making the team as a tight end instead of a receiver. The Jags were hopeful about rookie Zach Miller, but he is now lost for the season due to injury. Marcedes Lewis has not lived up to his potential, and the team would like to see what Wilford can do at his new position. |

Dolphins | Wilford released Mon Aug 24, 09:32 AM
The Miami Dolphins have released WR Ernest Wilford, according to Wilford's agent, Drew Rosenhaus via his Twitter account.
Footballguys view: There was some talk of Wilford sticking around on the Dolphins roster as a tight end, but apparently the team thought it was best to part ways. |

Dolphins | Wilford improving at TE Sat Aug 15, 02:45 PM
Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins TE Ernest Wilford has performed well in the last few practices, but head coach Tony Sparano said Wilford still is a work in progress. 'He's getting better. It's tough sledding down there for all those guys, but particularly for a receiver who's making a transition. I see him getting better. He's not afraid to put his face in there, which are good qualities. But fundamentally, there are some things certainly that he doesn't know as well as some of those other tight ends that he's catching up on,' Sparano said.
Footballguys view: The WR corps is crowded in Miami, but the team may decide to keep Wilford around as a TE. The NFL is all about mismatches, and Wilford could play like a "super-sized" receiver on passing downs. |

Dolphins | Battle for No. 3 tight end Sun Jul 26, 04:16 PM
Barry Jackson, of The Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins TE Joey Haynos will likely enter training camp as the team's No. 3 tight end. He will be pushed by TEs Ernest Wilford, John Nalbone and Jared Bronson.

Dolphins | Wilford adapts to the TE role Sun Jul 5, 02:47 PM
Barry Jackson, from the Miami Herald, notes that veteran Ernest Wilford has been creating mismatches with the defense by lining up as a receiver and a tight end. The question is, can he make the team in his new jack-of-all-trades role?
Footballguys view: Wilford, who had just 3 receptions for Miami last year after catching 45 passes for Jacksonville in 2007, is excited about his reincarnation, but will it be enough for him to save his roster spot on the team? The Dolphins were considering releasing Wilford - a year after giving him a 4-year, $13 million deal - but the salary cap implications were too much in their eyes. Instead, Miami added tight end and H-back to his duties. Wilford also commented that he won't be used exclusively as a tight end. |

Dolphins | Wilford in jeopardy of being released? Mon Jun 22, 11:00 AM
Armando Salguero, of The Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins WR Ernest Wilford appears unlikely to make the team's final roster.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins aren't going to give up on rookies Patrick Turner and Brian Hartline, which moves someone like Wilford further down the depth chart. He'll be expensive to cut, but he's simply not one of their top receivers. The Dolphins have been trying him out at TE, so he may be able to stay on the team with a position switch. |

Dolphins | Wilford lining up at TE Fri Jun 12, 12:32 PM
Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins WR Ernest Wilford lined up as a tight end during morning practice Friday, June 12. He struggled at times during blocking drills.
Footballguys view: Thompson noted that Wilford was "not a convincing blocker", but added that that won't be his role, if he makes the team. We're guessing that he won't, but if he doesn't, expectations will have to be lowered for Anthony Fasano and David Martin. |

Dolphins | Tight end may be best shot for Wilford to stick Tue May 19, 10:55 AM
Jeff Darlington, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins' attempt to help WR Ernest Wilford transition into the role of tight end could be a sign they are trying to find roster space to justify carrying an added wide receiver. Wilford's spot on the roster appeared to be in jeopardy after the NFL Draft, when the Dolphins landed two wide receivers, including WR Patrick Turner, who matches the role the Dolphins initially signed Wilford to occupy.
Footballguys view: Drew Rosenhaus's Twitter feed is officially scooping beat writers and giving us a welcome news source of up to the minute information. Wilford worked exclusively at WR in today's OTA, and Rosenhaus reiterated that it is not a full time position switch after the original tweet. Positional versatility might be Wilford's only shot to make the opening day roster if Greg Camarillo isn't put on the PUP. |

Dolphins | Wilford see time at H-back Mon May 18, 04:17 PM
Drew Rosenhaus, agent for Miami Dolphins WR Ernest Wilford, reports on his Twitter page that Wilford has seen some time at H-back during the offseason but wide receiver is still his primary position.
Footballguys view: Wilford has disappointed in Miami since he came over from Jacksonville last year. He is currently listed 5th on the depth chart and will have to beat out the rookie receivers Patrick Turner and Brian Hartline for a roster spot. |
